Honoured by Strangers: The Life of Captain Francis Cromie CB DSO RN, 1882-1918

Rate this book
Captain Francis Cromie, a submarine commander at the age of twenty- four, forged a successful career attacking German shipping in the Baltic Sea in 1915, despite the hazardous nature of the climate and the ferocity of the German navy. During his three years in the Baltic he became fluent in Russian and was decorated three times by the czar of Russia. He also received the DSO. His murder in the British Embassy in 1918 came as a shock and has retained a tragic mystery-until now. The author's extensive research has revealed the circumstances surrounding Cromie's murder and exposed facts about his complex character and his relationships with the Russians and the British Establishment.
