I currently reside in Arizona with my two sons. I love to read for pleasure and love to do reviews for other Indies authors trying to make it. I am my children’s biggest and loudest fan during their basketball games and try to make as many as I can while fighting a disease that fights my body.

Blue is my favorite color, I can recite the movie Clue word for word, Junior Mints make me happy and I will keep wishing for Blue Bunny to make Cherry Cheesecake a permanent flavor instead of a seasonal treat. I’m scatterbrained, too forgiving, a bit neurotic and always busy.

And will forever be in a power-struggle over the big screen TV with my youngest until he can get a TV of his own.

I settled down one evening, ready to read just a couple of chapters of Quake before I fell asleep… Didn’t happen.

Once I started I couldn’t stop until I read the last page. It was so worth the bed head and puffy eyes I had the next day.

I like the way Lisa brings you in , and makes you feel like your right there along with Ali and Caden. I did find a few grammar errors, but it didn’t stop me from loving the story.

I REALLY want to tell you all about it, so instead I’m going to finish by saying… “I loved it and can’t wait to get wrapped up in the next book!”

I know this may be unorthodox, but yes I am the author and yes I am reviewing my own book. =P
I made a few mistakes rushing this to publication, but do feel the story has potential and am hoping for creative criticism to make the sequel even better. I do hope that people enjoy the story!

*I won this book through the Goodreads First Reads program*

I am pleasantly surprised! I didn't think I would like this book as much as I did. This book has everything in it from action to a hint of romance. So let's talk about the characters.

For one, I pretty much liked them all. I adored the friendship between Ali and Christine. Christine reminds me of my best friend, so I loved her character. Caden kind of annoyed me in the beginning. I also liked the relationship between Zack and Christine. I thought it was sweet how they were always there for one another. I pretty much liked everyone except Gemma. I didn't like her in the beginning and I hated her in the end.

What I liked about this book is that it keeps you at the edge of your seat. There were betrayals and lives were lost (as the synopsis stated). I was even sad to see a few characters go. The only problem that I have with this book is the grammatical errors. There were a few here and there, but if you can look past that, you will see that this story is a true gem. I think the author did a great job, this being her debut novel. I can't wait to read the next book!

I wish they had half stars or 10 stars Good Reads. Quake is definitely worth a 3.5 closing in on but not quite 4.

The book was too short and the ending abrupt. I remember reading George Orwell’s Animal Farm in one night high school. That’s classic literature not young adult by it was a shorter book than Quake so the length of the book is not my issue for a young adult book. It’s just that it ended with me not craving more but looking for the next chapter.

Now onto the reason I gave it the almost 4 stars.

I absolutely loved every one of the characters! The teens in the book are very real and I could have easily been friends with them when I was in high school if my brother had been on the basketball team. My brother and I were close like main characters Ali and her brother Caden so they seem very real to me and their mom has definite similarities to our mom when we were in high school. I already kind of disliked the bad guy before she was revealed as the bad guy and she is perfectly despicable.

The story is riveting and moves appropriately fast for young adult fiction so it makes the book hard to put down. Once the details of the alien invasion become apparent how the pieces all fit together makes sense.

I’m anxious for the follow-up book, AfterShock, to come out and will definitely read it. I’m just personally not a great fan of cliffhangers but I suppose the suspense is supposed to “kill me.” That worked. I’m on the mailing list because when it’s ready that next book “must be collected.”

**reviewed for around Table Book Reviews**

Lisa Arrington does a great job keeping you guessing with all of the twists and turns in Quake. We follow along with a group of teens when these strange earthquakes keep happening. But they're not like your normal quakes. The ground splits and a thick goo starts coming from the ground. With all of the strange happenings going on, these teens will have to rely on and help each other through it all. Even the best of friendships are put to the test.
It's not told from one person's POV, so we get to see what everyone is thinking, even the aliens. I really enjoyed that about this book. Most author's give you just one or two POVs. This way, we get to see what all are thinking and how they are handling the situation. If you're like me and you read a lot of NA and YA stories, Quake will be a great getaway from the norm. It'll have you thinking and trying to solve the puzzle to truly figure out what is going on. I do feel that a few parts were rushed. But that didn't hinder my understanding of the story. I'll be looking forward to reading more of this story and putting together all of the pieces along the way.

I must have overlooked this book, it was sent to me some time ago via a book tour. So my sincere apologies for not reading it sooner.

I looked at the blurb and wondered how I would get on with this as its not my usual style of a book I would choose to read.

It was a bit slow in the beginning, it took me quite a while to fathom out who was who and what actually was going on, once I did, I imagined myself watching this like a movie on TV.

The earth quakes were not your usual kind of earth quakes, and this goo would come out of it.

I can honestly say, if this is your kind of book [genre] you will enjoy it immensely, that doesn't mean I didn't, I did! but it was hard going for me because of the content.

I have given 4 stars to this book, simply because I am not going to be biased and rate it because I personally found it hard going because of the subject matter, looking outside the box, I think this book is well written, flows well, and although gets off to a slow start, it reaches a good climax.

This was a really different & exciting story. Lisa does a great job introducing her characters and getting you to really care about them. She spent a lot of time setting the stage so it takes a bit to get to the unexpected reason behind the quakes but she takes you on a crazy adventure with lots of twists and turns!

It is really hard to come up with a story that is extremely unique and diverse but this one is! You never know what is going to happen next. It keeps you guessing and you always guess wrong.

On another note, Lisa is also an author who cares about her readers and her story. The copy of her book that I received was full of errors so in my original post I commented on how that distracted from the story. Lisa contacted me to let me know that the errors had been corrected and she was sorry that I had received an old edition of the book. How great is that?!

If you are tired of the same old story line you really need to pick up a copy of Quake!!! You will not be disappointed.

I GIVE Quake by Lisa Arrington 4 stars!!
I gave this a 4 star rating , because I really enjoyed this book a lot. At the beginning , I was how ever a little confused , about what was going on. But, the story is very interesting , when you realize what’s going on. I liked the flow of this book. I connected with all of the characters in this book. I was in suspense off and on throughout this whole book. I didn’t want to put it down either. It was very different from anything that I have read before. In fact, that was what got me hooked on this book lol. I read from daylight to dark, until sadly it came to the end. I think the author done a good job, with this. I did feel like the end was rushed ,but, I am only hoping there will be more to this story. Please give me more on this story. I got to dislike a certain character in this story, I won’t give no names, because I don’t want to give anything away. It is definitely a must read.

REVIEWED FOR ROUND TABLE BOOK REVIEWS
Quake by Lisa Arrington is an interesting take on a plot to take over the world. In this case the world we are introduced to is small town Arizona. The characters are well developed. As the story unfolds we get to know more about Ali and her brother Caden, typical kids in high school. On a camping trip and earthquake and its strange after effects have them running for their lives. The interaction between them and their friends as they try to stay one step ahead is a great story. Some of their decisions remind me of “that” typical horror story of the teenagers in the woods. You know, “Don’t split up…!” Some of the interactions are a bit predictable. Yet, it is suspenseful and unique in many ways.
It has a tiny cliffhanger at the end, which nicely sets up a new plot line and the second book.

Our protagonist, Ali, and her big brother, Caden are actually sweet together. Arrington created a brother and sister team that work together (which I thought was impossible) and happens to be quite refreshing. Following them around the story made me want to give my own little brother a hug (which, since he’s a lot bigger than me now, would only result in him karate chopping me in the neck and asking me if I’d lost my mind….not really Ali and Caden material).

The plot twists and turns to achieve a well-balanced mixture of “holy crap,” and “I KNEW it!!” And Arrington isn’t afraid to make those hard decisions, including hacking off likeable characters, which I always find hard (but sometimes fun) to do.

‘Quake’ is fun, unique and warm. But it’s also spooky, gutsy, and sludgy (inside joke for those who’ve read it). Way to write, Lisa Arrington!

This is not the usual sort of book that I read but I was intrigued by the blurb and couldn’t resist. I was glad I stepped out of my comfort zone, I was really pulled in by the characters and felt I was right there alongside them, I finished this book in one evening, mainly because I was afraid I would have nightmares if I didn’t get to the end Ha. Yes I am a bit of wuss when it comes to things like this I’ll admit it.
I liked how Ali and Caden are just normal teenagers hanging out with friends it made it easier to connect with the characters.

Friendships are really put to the test in this story and not everything or everyone are what they seem, there is a lot of twists and turns and the book is full of suspense even the ending was a big surprise and I find myself wanting to step out of comfort zone once more and perhaps endure more nightmares to read the sequel

I read this for Round Table Book Reviews

I wasn’t sure about this at first, but it was a surprisingly good story.
Caden & Ali are just normal teenagers, enjoying hanging out with their friends, their only worry is what college they will go to.
Then one weekend they all decide to go camping, unfortunately there is a huge earthquake, that sparks an Alien invasion. Ali & Caden then find themselves running for their lives.
It was very well written & the exciting & surprising twists & turns stopped me putting it down. I read it in one sitting.
I enjoyed the characters & felt I was experiencing it all with them. It was so easy to get drawn in to the story line.
Really liked it & can’t wait to read the sequel to see how Ali &
Caden get on.

Quake takes awhile to get started, but once the "quakes" start happening, the story really picks up. One thing that's really cool about this book is that it takes normal characters-this time every day teenagers--and throws them into the abnormal. I really like Ali. She's a likeable character and her reactions seem realistic when the strange events start occurring. I also like the thrill of the chase this story gives you. What I don't like is the multiple perspectives. There are too many. I would have actually preferred if this story was first-person and told from only Ali's perspective.

Even so, the book is enjoyable and I highly recommend it. The end has a really cool twist and I'm looking forward to the sequel. Give it a read. Ms. Arrington has something here.

This book has a well written story line with lots of plot twists and surprises. It keeps you guessing and makes you feel like you are there with the characters, experiencing the events as they do. The characters are very well developed. I found myself looking forward to the sequel by the time I was done so I could find out what happens with Ali and Caden next.

Lisa Arrington's debut novel Quake is filled with action and lots of suspense in the page-turning adventure. Well developed characters and a small cliffhanger at the end to encourage you to read the next book, After Shock. Fans of Young Adult Science Fiction will enjoy Quake.

I found Quake to be an intriguing story. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it or not when I first started, but once the story got to going good I found it to be quite good. It does start off slow, but then builds up quickly and maintains the momentum the rest of the book. There are some predicable parts and then there are those that just threw me for a loop. Lisa Arrington has done a great job on writing this apocalyptic type book with an alien twist. The characters are well developed and easy to relate too.

The main adventure begins when the siblings Ali and Caden experience an earthquake when on a camping trip with a group of friends. After that all hell breaks loose. Most everyone around seems to have gone mad. They are either trying to kill Ali and Caden or trying to collect them. They have to go on the run and no longer know who they can trust, not everyone is as they seem. Will they make it? What has really gotten into the people in their town?

Wasn't sure how this when I first started reading the book. But the author took my by surprised with the fast pace in this story line. It's the end of the school year, only thing one these kids worry list is what college they will be attending and the camping trip they planned for. When the Quake happens, it takes these teenagers and throw them into a situation that they must pull together to help one another. The sister/brother teams by all means was my all time favorite. They showed they even through hard times, they were able to pull together for one another and others.

Overall you can feel as it you are right there in the story, you felt the emotions of the characters, fast pace, and highs and lows in emotions.

I really enjoyed reading Quake. I could not put the book down the entire time I read it. As much as I wish the language was a bit higher level, I really enjoyed this book.
