I have to re write my review.
I read the books, both books, again from back to back. And it seems I wasn't fully into reading the first time I read Reckless.
I would give it a 4.5 star now. Fearless still is the best in my eyes, but Reckless is very profound and Needed to continue the story of Samantha Smith.
I take back the comment of not being able to disconnect with Real Life. I sailed through those chapters even after reading it the second time. Flashbacks made it really worthy to see Christos POV.
Romeo is still a tad too much for me, and I hope the author will take time to write an spin off about this character.

 photo quotes-1420.jpg

Reckless was funny. I highlighted many little groups of words or sayings like 'verbal fertilizer' or 'Peen Queen' or 'tantrum town'.. wicked words. I love them.

I'll leave my first review just in case someone is curious enough to see.

So I got my very first ARC for an honest review.

 photo XFeLwWU.gif

Started Reckless and already clapped hands because it's Christos POV !
The first 2 sentences made me wonder and grab the 1st book again.
I had to dig in my memory to recall the arrest. This was like a jump in the deep. Happily swimming in a sequel ! But you need to read Fearless to understand Reckless.

True, the first part wasn’t getting me. I didn’t get into the story, couldn’t completely forget real life while reading, which happened – ask my family – with Fearless.
It was more difficult because of the flashbacks. But every piece of the puzzle fell in place and I loved Christos even more.

Then Romeo …

 photo tumblr_mcheyclhzg1r55e2l.gif

Oh Romeo...

 photo dying-dying.gif

He lost his sympathy with me.. I had some rather aggressive feelings for him, wanted to slap him or even better : find him a boyfriend. ‘cuz … really,.. too much … he was funny to start with, but I felt really uncomfortable with his comments as if his humor hid an enormous amount of pain and frustrations.

But christos, heaven thank you, is adorable. What a man. How he handled Sam’s v- card made me go completly awww !

Now this second part had me . I was hooked, couldn’t put it down and sat down in a whirlpool of emotions. I loved the story telling, I found the balance I felt in Fearless. While the first part made me think of a 3 star rating, this part definitely earned the 4th star. And the story became better & better.
The ending… What a cliffhanger. I had to re-read that page through tears, loud sobbing and no ice cream in my freezer…

Let this be my lesson. Next time I read a book by Devon Hartford, I have to be sure tissues and ice cream are well stocked . Because yes, I will read more books by him, wait for early 2014. I want Painless , like… yesterday.

This and more reviews at The Book Bar.co

Rating: Top Shelf from Guest Bartender, Hayley

I am doing a review on this series of books by Devon Hartford, as this is a bad boy/tattoo'd hunk/motorbike hero,  that everyone would love to know personally.  When I first started reading these books, I was taken in by how much the main character, Adonis (Christos), appealed to me.  He's the bad boy you love, with the tattoos and his attitude.  He is every girl's "heart-throb".  As the story deepens, Adonis shows a deeper side with his heart of gold that cares deeply.  However, you believe he's the ultimate bad boy.
“I’ve never given my heart to anyone, agápi mou.
You are my first. And you will be my last.
You are my forever.”
Reckless. Hartford, Devon

The main female character is Samantha Smith.  She runs along the lines of the normal girl, like you and me, who fantasizes about the bad boy but doesn't think she measures up.  Or won't even stand a chance with Adonis.

I absolutely love Romeo, the eccentric character who is comfortable being gay and making it known around the university, he is a friend you would love to have around, just to make you laugh.

The story is so well written, you actually feel every emotion of all the characters, playing out in the storyline.  I have actually screamed at this book one minute, then been in fits of laughter the next.

This series runs along side of some of the greatest like S.C. Stephens and K. Bromberg.

If I had to mix drinks to this series they would be along the lines of sex on the beach, mature whiskeys and maybe lemon drop shots.

Fearless:

My drink of choice for this would be a sex on the beach cocktail.

Reckless:

The drink of choice in this one is whiskey.

Well I must have been reading another book because I found this almost unbearable, every page was hard work, I guess the author thinks that the quick quips and word play are clever and it seems like the other readers agree, but it's not for me. I found that the story dragged and what little interest I did have in the characters has withered away. I usually like to finish a story but honestly I don't think I can continue

Utter pants

PMSL at the write up

Quote:
WARNING!! The steam factor in RECKLESS will be significantly steamier than it was in FEARLESS.

Well the bar is set pretty low! My kids Disney films are steamier than this

Holy mother of cliffhangers. In the continuation of Christ is and Samantha's story you follow the couple continuing to face Samantha's demons as well as her crazy controlling parents as well as learning of Christos' past and the current situation he finds himself in. Told from dual POVs Reckless will leave you "patiently" waiting for Painless to be released.

When I received this book, I took my time and read it over a few days – what a pleasure it was to read! I wanted to take in everything that was written and compare it to book #1; I can say I'm not disappointed. Devon Hartford does it again!! Enchanting us with yet another captivating read.
It continues on from book 1, its very well written, and very well put together story line. The characters are so well developed and written in to this book, it’s almost like you are there with them, feeling their array of emotions as you read along.
The focus is still on Samantha and Christos, but what i like (and find refreshing) is it isn’t all happy and glorious, there are chapters where they have their ups and downs; they both have difficult times, not just as a couple but as individuals, and yet they remain supportive of one another and then as an individual they choose to deal with other situations alone, again you feel the stress, fear the pain in these situations.
Without adding a spoiler, Christos is trying to deal with a certain situation alone, which leads to a difficult decision, that he makes, in his view it is the best decision for not just for them, but for everyone, and again your seeing and feeling what that character is going through I was so enthralled by this .. BUT THEM ... OMFG that leaves us on a cliff hanger ending (Devon get your pens out and get writing book 3 because I want to read book 3 so badly, to see how this pans out)
Some of the chapters are very in depth; esp compared to other books of the same genre. But, what fascinated me is how this book is written/put across; it makes me wonder if some of what is put in to the book reflects on past situations/events that have actually occurred in the writer’s life!! If that is the case, then well done! You have done a superb job!! Having expected it to be like so many other books of this style I was pleasantly surprised by the book, its written in its own style, which is well written and an enjoyable read.
This is an amazing story from beginning to end, Mr Hartford is a truly amazing talent when it comes to the depth and feeling he puts in to his book. Personally for or me it is the kind of book you just can't put down, I can't wait for the next one a must read for all :)
Highly recommendable read, Devon this was a pleasure to read! well done :)

This second installment of The Story of Samantha Smith was just as well written as " Fearless", where it all begins and I strongly recommend reading it first.
So much is going on here for our beloved Christos, Samantha, Madison, Romeo, Kamiko and even Tiffany! Some of the ups and downs are just crazy intense!
Sam makes some life altering decisions which starts the war of the Smith's with her parents, but I'm hoping they come to see that Sam is never going to fit into the mold they are trying to force ( black mail) her into. The love she and Christos have for each other is Epic! And it is the security Sam feels from this love that gives her the courage to face down her domineering parents.
Christos loves Sam so much he believes he is protecting by not asking her to do the one thing that can maybe keep him from going to jail. I wanted to tell him that he is wrong, Sam would do it in a heart beat! I don't think she would care at this point what her parents thought.
Madison also has found love with Jake, and it may be wedding bells soon on that front. Romeo, well , is Romeo and he just cracks me up! I did feel his pain though when he got his heart and feelings stomped on by Hunter, a new player on the scene who is just determined to mess with Sam. We see some more of Kamiko who comes out of her shell a little bit and only gets heartache for her trouble and she thinks it's Sam's fault!
Meanwhile, the ever conniving Tiffany is learning that the world really doesn't revolve around her and what she wants....
So as Christos day in court looms ever nearer, it looks like he may be facing jail, he worries that Sam's parents will use it as leverage against her emotionally and he won't be there to support her. As he contemplates solutions, his mind goes to a very dark place indeed......
I just sat there at the end of this book in shock....nooooooo!....STOP This rollercoaster....I need to get off!

Oh Christos!

I received an ARC from the author. Reckless is the second installment of The Story of Samantha Smith. I'm so glad to continue reading the love story between Samantha and Christos (also known as Adonis.)

I love that the author included both viewpoints of the heroine and hero. With Christos, the begining part of the novel had his recollection of him first meeting Samantha. Then his view points continue to present day.

Samantha is teetering the thought of whether or not to switch her major to Art. If she does, she knows she will have to tell her controlling parents. She originally wanted to go to an art school, but her parents shot that idea down.

Christos is so loving and caring to Samantha. He's so expressive to her on his feelings. His words toward her are almost like reciting romantic poetry. He pretty much has shown how committed he is to her unlike in the past with the random girls he would be with. Christos grandfather, Spiridon, treats Samantha like family, as if she was his own granddaughter.

Samantha's group of friends, Madison, Romeo and Kamiko are still around. This group keeps Samantha laughing and have her back. Her hater, Tiffany, still gives her hell whenever she sees her. She's one of those rich brats you would just love to push into a murky lake.

Samantha has another admirer, Hunter, who is a model. He's the model for the Figurative Sculpture class. He would strike conversations with her and ask her out. No matter what Samantha says or does to show she is not interested in him, he still doesn't back off. Brandon is another who could possibly be interested in her. Or could he have moved on to Kamiko?

I really enjoyed reading Reckless. The way the story ended makes me really anxious to read Painless. Can't wait!

OMG I LOVED this book! It basicly starts off not far after the last book. Just a couple of days later and Christos and Samantha are getting ready to spend new years eve together. Nothing can ruin there night. Not even the b*tch Tiffany. She's just everywhere they are. If it's not to throw drinks at Sam it's to make put the move's on Christos. Pain in Sam's ass! Anyhoooo after yet ANOTHER run in with Tiffany on new years eve they move past it. Tiffany isn't gonna just change over night and want them to be together. Pigs will learn how to fly quicker then that would happen! If you taught the first book was good you'll love this one. You'll see secrets are never a good thing as they start to crush Christos. Sam can see this but he won't open up to her. He doesn't want to burden her with everything else she has going on. But secrets never get kept and sooner or later they have to come out. And you get to see all this as the book is nearly half Christos as well. Between her annoying bulling parents,a stalker called Hunter,Christos holding secrets and Tiffany been a b*tch things are out of control. She can't carry anymore on her shoulders right? WRONG! Add two jobs and a Branden still sniffing around and you might see how bad things are. Can love out come all of that? Is there bound strong enough to not let any of that tear them apart? WELL you'll just have to read it and find out! But it won't disappoint :)

Talk about unexpected! That's how I felt when I finished Reckless by Devon Hartford. It took me a few days longer than I planned to read this, but let's face it, life happens. When I did finish, I was not disappointed. The story picks up where Fearless left off with Sam and Christos back in San Diego for the remainder of winter break. While Sam continues to struggle with what to do about her art career, Christos is being the loving and supportive boyfriend. The story goes back and forth from the past and present and it is in both of their povs, which I really like. We also learn more about Christos character in this book.

I really like the story and the characters. I absolutely love Romeo. One thing that I look for in books is whether or not they can make me laugh, and Romeo had me cracking up so many times I lost count. I can't say a whole lot about what happens because I don't want to give anything away. I will say that this time, it's Christos demons that may end up ruining he and Sam's relationship.

My only complaint was the major cliffhanger! I hate cliffhangers and wanted to scream at this one. I definitely recommend reading this series. Both of Devon's books have been great. Now I have to patiently wait for Painless!

Devon what are you doing to me. Talk about cliff hanger. We get more of Christos Adonis Mannos and Samantha Smith. In this the second book they are a couple, finally. What a couple, very sexy and over the top one of the funniest and most natural feeling couples. Christos is so good for Samantha, the love and encouragement he gives her is beautiful.

The writing style is captivating and fresh. We get more of the same crowd as in the first book, plus an addition of new characters. Samantha has no idea how beautiful she really is, so many women in this world are in this position. Her parents drag her down and try to control her at every turn. Parents are supposed to help us be the best we can and bring out our natural talents.

I feel for anyone with such controlling parents and found myself cheering out loud when she made a stand for herself. Wonderful story filled with love for these 2 troubled souls. Hoping that in the next book we get to see the story come full circle and the HEA we all want for them isn't too far away.

Loved every minute of it, can't wait for the 3rd book. Bring it on, more Christos and Samantha.

Reckless (The Story of Samantha Smith #2) by Devon Hartford is an amazing read. Each book within this series makes me fall in love with the characters a bit more. This is a story about finding love in all aspects of life and not just in the traditional “true love” sense. It truly makes you believe that you can fill the gaps in life left by past, present and future trauma with unconditional love and support by people who become your family and not the ones you were born into.

Samantha is becoming a strong and confident woman with every little hiccup, major life change and daily experience with her new found friends and extended family. Christos is a strong and determined man that stands up for what and who he believes in. Although Christos is not forthcoming about his drama and serious, pending legal issues, he does it to protect those he loves.

The end of this book is quite a cliff hanger that begs for more information and leaves the reader desperate to know what comes next. I can definitely say that February (the release of the next book), cannot come quick enough.

I read Reckless straight after reading Fearless. I'd recommend it that way
Well! What to say about this one!
Christos and Samantha are so sweet in this book. Christos comes across as a real romantic. He's so into Samantha it's not funny. She still can't really believe her luck!
The struggles in this book are epic. Samantha's struggling with her parents, following her dreams, her confidence in her own talent, and watching other women fawn all over Christos. Christos himself is struggling with his own demons, pressure to produce more work to sell, and his swiftly approaching trial.
The story raced along, with appropriate amounts of inappropriate comments from Romeo. Old characters shone or hung around like a bad smell (depending on whether they were friends or not-friends). New characters were introduced and references to old ones were kept up, leading to possible references in book three.... ;-)
I loved this book. It was well written with only a couple of typos. The characters and story become more and more intriguing the more this story unfolds.
I can't wait for book three.

Reckless by Devon Hartford is book 2 in his series, The Story of Samantha Smith, and I was not disappointed! 5 Stars all the way! This book continues Samantha and Christos’s story. I liked how the author flipped to the past and told Christos’s story about what happened that first day he met Samantha. I was constantly on edge, just wanting him to tell Sam what was going on with him so that she could help him. Like most men, he was being stubborn. LOL. Sam is still struggling with following her own dreams versus doing what her parents are trying to make her do as well as trying to balance school, work and her relationship with Christos. I loved this book but was left speechless by the cliffhanger. I absolutely cannot wait until the next book comes out!! ~Kendra

Reckless tells Christos' side of the major events from the day that he met Samantha. It's basically his story of being pulled in different directions and the demons that haunt him.

Devon Hartford does a great job of telling a romantic story, not just from a male's perspective, but also written by a man. His writing style is the right combination of humor, romance and drama. I loved the flashbacks that he did and loved the different points of view that he offered.

The only thing that left me unsatisfied was the ending. Don't get me wrong, I love a good cliffhanger as good as the next reader, but this one was like no other. I am sincerely hoping that Painless comes out soon because I don't know that I can stand the suspense.

I received an ARC for my honest review.....

I was so excited to receive an ARC of this book and Mr. Hartford did not disappoint.

I thought it was amazing! I was semi in love with Christos after reading Fearless, but I am totally in love with him now!! And have elected him to be my current book boyfriend ;) Yes, I realize this is The Story of Samantha Smith, but whatever.

Again, the humor in this book is fantastic! And I appreciate good humor, I like to have a good laugh! And I did several times with this book.

The only issue I had with this book, if you can call it an issue, is that it has a cliffhanger. UGH!

Overall...I enjoyed this book and can't wait for Painless to come out in 2014. And if you enjoyed Fearless you will enjoy Reckless.

WOW! Mr. Hartford is such a talented writer. This book had everything a girl could possibly want. A good story, a sexy caring hot man, a good amount of humor, and enough twists and turns to keep you coming back for more. The characters had me yelling from the sidelines as I mentally tried to make them do what I wanted. Of course, that's not the way it works, so I had to keep reading.

The story of Samantha Smith continues......

Samantha is still growing up and Christos has gotten into a bit of trouble.

The two of them make an awesome couple but can they survive?

I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.

OMG! I love this book. Once I started I couldn't put it down. I love Christos and Sam together. Their love story is the best but the personal conflicts that these two characters have to deal with makes my heart ache. I loved the little comments made that had me cracking up and the next I was in awe of the love these two have for one another. The one thing I am not happy about is the end. I am not a big fan of cliffhangers. I am going to be dying until the next book comes out. I need the next book now.

I gave it 4 stars because of the CLIFFHANGER!!!! Great book, picked it up as soon as I finished Fearless. I love Christos he's so patient and open w/Sam (well about his feelings anyway)Oh and can we mention HOT!!!! And I love their group of friends especially Romeo; he adds another level to the book. I enjoy the fact that it's not so focused on Sam & Christos but also includes the other characters experiences & feelings. But DAMN!!!! did I mention what a cliff hanger!!!! I'm hoping Mr. Hartford is too busy to read this because he needs to finish the next book LOL!!!!

I really get a kick out of Samantha's friend Romeo. He has some of the funniest lines. A lot happens with Sam and Christos relationship. I hate Tiffany. She is a horrible person. I wasn't expecting what happens with the new character Hunter but it was interesting adding another person. Sam's parents are unbelievably selfish in this book. Christos just makes everything so much harder for himself. This book ends with one heck of a cliffhanger. I can't wait for the Painless to release.

Better than the first. But still not happy that I have to buy several books to get one full story. Lots more sex in this book and you finally get what Christos sees in Sam. Yes I will read the next book in the series, but with reluctance. Also completely baffles me that Christos won't ask Sam to help with his trial or that he can see that she was innocent in her situation but he is not innocent in his. Too many contradictions.

Surprisingly (or maybe not) a man can write a great romance story. "If Wishes were Horses" was written by a man and it was well done too.

Devon, great character building. All people I would like to know (maybe not her parents); however I think I understand them too! Cannot wait for the rest of the story and maybe some of the other characters as well. Kamiko and Romeo are great characters (even Tiffany, if you must).

Great, great, great story. Love it.

A lot of times sequels usually just aren't as good as the original books but that wasn't the case here. As much as I loved Fearless, I enjoyed Reckless even more. I'm really amazed at Devon Hartford, he's already a very good writer but I think it's pretty rare and wonderful to see an author who's already very talented become so much better in such a short time. Fearless was really good but Reckless was even better. It had all the things that I loved from the original and also so much more. More depth, more humor, more romance, more drama, just more everything and I had a really good time hanging out with Samantha, Christos, Mads, Romeo, Kamiko, Brandsome (sorry, can't get that name out of my head) and yes even Hunter the new jerk in town. Seriously, Hunter and Tiffany should totally get together, their evil love would destroy the universe.

Reckless picks right up where Fearless left off. Samantha and Christos have taken their relationship to the next level. Not only that but Samantha is taking her art to the next level and everything is going great. So where's the drama? Don't worry, there's plenty of it here and not just from Tiffany who's personal goal in life is to make everyone around her miserable, especially Sam. Everything's going wonderful them BAM! Roadblocks start appearing all over the place. Roadblocks to Sam's art and school, her and Christo's relationship and even her friendship with Kamiko. Things continue to escalate, going from about 1 to 175mpg about as fast as Christos on his Ducati right up until the very end where we crash head first into a guard rail and are hanging over a steep mountainside starring at the tiny dots of trees below us as our life hangs in the balance. Well, that didn't happen literally but it's a good enough analogy. I for one happen to love yet hate cliffhangers at the same time but I loved this one. Don't worry, we're not left off too badly, we get a full self contained storyline but we do have to wait until the next installment in the Story of Samantha Smith to find out what happens to everybody.

I can't wait for the next book. Is Christos going to be okay? Will Samantha's parents ever see reason? Will Tiffany ever grow up? Yeah right! I'm also hoping that Romeo as well as Kamiko get a little love. Heck, maybe they should get their own spin-off series. I'd also really like to know more about Brandon. Is he really such a jerk? Why was he so caring and nice to Kamiko only to be such a jerk later? I hope there's more to him than that, maybe he's under pressure from his family the way Samantha is, or maybe he's just afraid of true love. Of course he could just be a jerk, only time will tell. This is just a fun series, there was a lot more humor this time around along with a lot more romance. It seems to me like Mr. Hartford really had a good time writing this one, it just shows. His characters have a great amount of depth to them, the pacing was very good and all in all just a great read. If you enjoyed the first one then don't miss this one, you'll be sorry that you did. This is a great book/series and is definitely on my "must read" list the second each new book comes out.

This book again had me hooked from the start! It started with a prologue of Christos from when he first met Sam and was then arrested. It showed his thoughts, what was going on and explained, as the story went on, why he was arrested and all the things he has been hiding from Sam about his past. Despite the fact that Sam could be the one to help him hes still putting her first and not wanting to ruin her life, as he thinks he would if he told her. It was great reading from both their POV's, reading both their thoughts and feelings. Romeo was hilarious as usual, so many laugh out loud moments, loved it! Tiffany was still a bitch, Sam having Hunter throwing himself at her too, she really had lots of things thrown at her! lol Sam and Christos are still completely in love, Christos is the sweetest ever, despite his bad boy type exterior. The ending had my heart in my mouth as i read, so intense and emotional, what a cliffhanger!! Starting on to the next straight away! This series has had me completely hooked, definitely one of the best I've read! :)

Devon Hartford has a way with words, I feel so connected to Samantha and Christos as well as the rest of the gang.

Reckless continues where Fearless left off, with a little twist. In Reckless you get the story from both POV's. Love when authors do that.

I can't wait for Book3, Can you write faster and move it up like for Christmas, Thanksgiving or hey even Halloween would be good time for it.

If you haven't read Fearless or Reckless, add to your MUST READ NOW list.

Devon Hartford as definitely proven that men can write romance.
