Polly Giller has had the worst luck with finding a good custodian for Sycamore House and the murder of her latest employee draws even more attention to her propensity for finding dead bodies. Sheriff Aaron Merritt just assumes that when she calls him, it's because she's found someone. The pool at the Elevator expands as the locals lay odds on Polly's next find. When Beryl Watson ends up in the hospital because of an explosion, the last thing she wants is to be a statistic in Polly's life.
Sal Kahane, Polly's college roommate and best friend from Boston, comes to Iowa to see what all the fuss is about at Sycamore House. The city girl has to keep an open mind in order to understand why her friend loves living among the cornfields.
Polly's relationship with Henry Sturtz, her contractor and friend, continues to grow. When he left town for a couple of months, she discovered how important he was. Polly takes a risk on a new custodian with a mysterious background and farm thefts disrupt the little town. She finds herself worrying about locking things up again; something she had ceased doing when she moved out of Boston.
Things are never dull in Bellingwood and with the introduction of wonderful, new characters, Polly comes to a better understanding of herself and her relationship with this little town. All of the regulars are back with some stories of their own to tell.
Nice addition to series. I read out of sequence and had no trouble keeping up but it’s always better to do otherwise. Enjoyed reading this 📖. Recommended.
I picked up this book on recommendation from my librarian, out of order I know.
It was a cute fun book. Small town in iowa so relatable since I live in iowa. I absolutely love the small town feel books. Little bit of romance, mystery, grief, and friendship.
Reading the third book in this series I came to wonder what will be the next thing Polly gets planned. It's not just one story going on in this book but a number of stories which makes it very interesting and a challenge to decide what will happen next. She has ideas for all kinds of things and Jeff and Henry also have ideas to make the old school house growing and successful. Wonderful series
I really am enjoying this series. I kind of makes me want to move to a little country town, even though I grew up in one and didn't like it.
The characters are all coming together nicely and the introduction of new characters is done is such a timely manner that I feel as though they have been there all along.
Lots of intrigue and human interest woven through out a great story. Treasure Uncovered is one of my personal favorites in the series. Having been raised in a small town, I love the setting and the characters. Reading this series feels like going home for a quick visit!
I live reading these books. I am thinking the characters are part of my family. I get upset when I can’t read at lunch. So I make sure I read at night before bed.
I love all the characters. Polly really makes me think about how I treat people and what I value about my life. However, her energy makes me feel weary!
I enjoy the Bellingwood stories, I really enjoy the characters and different mysteries that happen during the story line. I enjoy the stories because they are based in Iowa.
3.5 stars. Really enjoying this series. Polly continues to become more a part of the community and expanding her Sycamore House to include many more people.
Treasure Uncovered: Bellingwood Book Three is by Diane Greenwood Muir and Jamie McFarlane. This is a really good book. It has the most excitement so far. Polly is exhausted. She has been taking care of her four horses with only Jason’s help. Doctor Mark Ogden is helping to bring them back to health after their having been almost starved to death. Luckily, Henry had finished the barn before he had been called to Arizona by his Mother. The only good thing she has figured out is that she really misses Henry so there definitely is something to their friendship that she needs to consider. Polly wants a nap but something is always going on around Sycamore House so she needs to get with Lydia and Andy about the garden plans. To pass the time before they arrive, she checks her email to find one from her best friend in Boston, Sal Kahane. Sal is coming to visit. That raises Polly’s attitude. However, sleep overcomes her after Lydia leaves. Unluckily for Polly, her custodian Harry Bern didn’t come to work. Polly and Jeff take off to his home to find him and bring him in regardless of his hangover. When they get to his house, they find he has been murdered. Now What? Luckily for Polly, Jeff quickly hires a new custodian and this one likes the horses and is more than willing to help out with them. However, he wants a month trial and then he will tell them more about himself if he is rehired. It takes only a day or two to want him to stay. What can happen in a month? Around Bellingwood and Sycamore House, a great deal can happen- both good and bad!
This book is #3 in the Bellingwood series. Oh. My. Goodness. I absolutely LOVED the first two books, and this one did not disappoint me, either.
Murder, romance, mystery, intrigue, comedy....it's got it all. Polly and all her friends are back, and she's making more friends. Polly is making progress with her business, the property is being renovated and everything is moving along nicely. The horses are still here and they're very much part of the book.
I have already purchased (YES! I PURCHASED a Kindle book! Me, the Queen of the freebies!) book #4, and I am looking forward to curling up with it tonight as I settle down in bed. I have appointments tomorrow, and let me tell you - my Kindle and Polly are going with me!
I recommend this entire series to anyone and everyone. There's no gratuitous sex scenes, no gory horror scenes (Yes, there is murder, but it's not described in detail), nothing that I would consider off limits for a teen and above.
LOVE this series! Have I said that already? It's good enough to repeat!!
4.5 stars I dont usually give light reading or cosy mysteries such high ratings, and I don't usually read them one after the other when I have a boxed set, but this time I did just that, and I didnt feel like I had overindulged. I loved the area, the characters and the mysteries were believable. There were a few question marks on the feasibility of someone running a business like Polly does, and there seems to be a lot of scenes that are fillers and really don't add much to the story or the character development. None of that detracted from my enjoyment. I have bought the next set and after a short break, I've no doubt that I will steam through them as well.
I have just reread first 10 books in one go, which is something I don't usually do. To be honest I probably liked them even better this time. There is a lot of filler stuff, taking dogs for walks and eating and so on, but it just feels like comfy clothes.
There is a strong theme going through these books mainly being that of being the slices of life. But this time there is a difference. The title says a lot about this book. One might wonder what kind of treasure might be found. I admit I was looking for there to be a big monetary type of treasure. I think in a way it detracted from the story on my part and did not let me settle in as much as I did with the others.
The only clue I will give you is that in this book there is more than one kind of treasure and many find personal growth very rewarding. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I still did not want to put it down. This has been one of the main consistencies throughout my journey thus far.
I have read the first books in this series and have enjoyed getting involved in the life of Polly Giller as she turns the abandoned schoolhouse into a bed and breakfast/multiuser event center/and her home. There are more adventures, more quirky friends, more mysteries and, yes, more dead bodies! Loved it. I'd like to read the rest of the series in order but have so many other free books on my Kindle I hate to pay for more!
My main complaint about all these books is the poor editing, missing words and phrases. I just can't understand how this happens. Anyone reading the books can see the mistakes. How can an editor not see them?
In this third book in the series, Polly continues to be a leader in the community, a brilliant entrepreneur, a mystery-solver, a catalyst for strange events and odd people, a caring friend. She has finally begun to relate better to Henry, who has been interested in her for ages, after treating him badly in the past. The story kept my interest and attention even as I shook my head at the implausibility of one young woman being so almost-perfect and so accepted in a small town so quickly. And these people eat heavy meals and rich desserts and sweet treats all the time and never seem to be concerned about their weight or their health.
Mark this book as DNF. The writing is fine, characters likable, but there were so many that just sort of popped in that I found it confusing as to who is who. Perhaps these books need to be read in order to know the characters better? The writing style, going into everyday life's intimate detail, is just not my cup of tea. I kept thinking that something is bound to happen soon if only everyday life would get out of the way. I just couldn't wait that long.
I received this book free which is good as if I'd paid any money for it is be very upset. I hadn't read the previous 2 in the series. This book is sickly sweet American tripe! Over description of unnecessary details to pad out a thin and frankly unbelievable story. The characters were stereotypes without depth or warmth and the writing quality was poor. Sorry but its predictable, sickly and a poor story line
I've never before abandoned a book after reading so little of it. After the first two scenes it was abundantly clear to me that I would never be able to identify in any way with a town full of characters who, without exception, thought finding a dead body was hold-your-sides hilarious. The tone was just completely inappropriate to the topic. I did not want to waste any more time on it - I sure hope it was a freebie I downloaded.
I like the characters and story, but I do wish it were better edited. It is small stuff, but enough to break the flow and make me reread something. Maybe I'm picky, but missing words and such do stick out to me, even when I can figure out what was meant with a second look.
But when the story is good and I want to keep going, as is the case here, that second look is a very annoying interruption!
I bought the first 3 books of the Bellingwood series as boxed set (there are 8 books in the series to date) and I read them one after the other. These are nice books, nicely written and with very likable charachters. In every book there is some mistery to solve. The first book is good, but the second and the third are too slow paced. I really struggled through the third book. I don't think I am going to red the other 8.
The third Bellingwood mystery, and they just keep getting better! Polly's custodian is murdered and his house is trashed. And yes, Polly finds the body! Plus there are thefts of tools and equipment from multiple farms in the area. When Polly hires a new custodian--an injured Iraq War vet--she finds a new friend and solves both mysteries.
More of the wonderful people and doings of small-town Bellingwood. Great stuff!
A delightful light murder mystery. Polly Giller moved from Boston to a small Iowa town (Bellingwood) and bought an old school house which she turned into a bed and breakfast and multi-use building. It is a wonderful story of a small town and strangers turning into friends, and how people support each other. The only problem is, Polly keeps finding bodies. It is a fun read.
I fell in love with this series from the very start. I love all of the crazy characters. I can't wait to see what the series holds from here. I love the friendships and family relationships woven throughout the stories. This series will make you laugh and cry and definitely make you appreciate those special relationships you have in your life.
Loved it, more please :) I found the series right before Christmas 2016 and finished the entire series by the first week in 2017.
I am so happy to find an author I love, but now I have to wait for the next book like the rest of Diane's fans. On the positive side, she appears to be very prolific and the next book will be out in March 2017 (17).
