Pilipinas circa 1907 features not only the original script of the play in Filipino and its English translation. It also includes an introductory essay on the sarsuwela as a traditional Philippine theater form revived and revitalized in recent years; production notes by the playwright, the director, the composers, and the production designer; score for voice and piano of some 20 songs featured in the musical play; and more than 40 photographs taken from the premiere performances of the play at Fort Santiago and at the Rizal Park in early 1882.
Nicanor Tiongson is a leading critic, creative writer and academic from the Philippines. He holds a Bachelor of Humanities degree from the Ateneo de Manila University, and M.A. and Ph. D in Philippine Studies from the University of the Philippines. A founding member of the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino, Tiongson is currently Professor of Film and Audiovisual Communication at the College of Mass Communications in U.P. Diliman.
