***5 AMAZING STARS***
Wow this book was FAN FREAKING TASTIC. I even think I liked it better then book 1. This book was a quick but steamy read. I was able to read it in a day, mostly because it was so good I couldn't put it down. This book starts right where book 1 Playing with Fire ends. I'm not going to say much about that because I don't want to give away anything about book 1. This book was completely a continuation of book 1, we were left with quite a few questions unanswered at the end of Book 1…This book started to answer some of them. The author was great in creating a story that answered some questions but still left enough unanswered to keep you waiting for book 3. She also created another side story for Shawn that leaves you scratching your head. I have so many theories running through my head when it comes to Shawn's story. I can't wait to see what happens with him in Book 3. I have to say that I believe this book was even steamier then book 1. I thought my kindle was going to melt by the end. I was blushing big time through this book, plus I couldn't wipe the smile off my face for the entire book.
What I loved about this book is that even though it is a continuation of Madison and Carter's story, she created another story between Jason and Nicole. We are introduced to these characters in Playing with Fire, but we get their actual story in this book, because she made them the main couple of this book. We do still get Carter and Madison in this book and she does capture the real feelings that Madison is going through after what happened with Chris. Now you would think that book 2 would end their story but it doesn't, she only touched a little bit on the aftermath of Chris. I am guessing that Madison and Carter's story will be wrapped up in book 3. I still loved Carter in this book….he was his sweet and caring self that we saw in Book 1, but I will say that I think Jason might have beaten him out of the front spot. Jason was a total Alpha Male in this book. I loved his sweet and caring side also but his dominant and possessive side was HOT!!!!! I thought him and Nicole made a great couple. They truly balanced each other out. It was great to see Nicole put Jason in his place and not let him get away with anything. I loved her character. She is a strong and loyal person. It was great to see that she never gave up on Jason even when he tried his damnedest to push her away. As for Shawn…there isn't a whole lot I can say about him right now, because even though he was in this book, he was very mysterious. He didn't really hang out with the group much in this book. I look forward to seeing what his story is all about in the next book.
In this book we don't hear a whole a lot about Chris, which was fine by me. What we do learn about, is what him and his father have been up to….it made me sick. You'll have to read it to find out what I am talking about. This book we have more trouble from the slutty ex's who just can't get a clue. I wanted to slap Alyssa and Stacey so many times. I really hope that they don't make an appearance in the last book. We also meet Jason's dad….he is a piece of work, I am so glad that Jason realized how miserable his dad really is and doesn't want to be anything like him.
So with all that said….I have to say that this is an amazing second book to a series. I loved how we got some things answered but left just enough uncovered to keep us hanging on for the next book. The author even threw in a little bit of a SHOCKER towards the end. I kind of had an idea before it is revealed but it still came out of nowhere and knocked me off my feet. I will be interested to see how this TWIST effects Jason and Nicole in Book 3.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who has read Playing with Fire. You need to see the rest of the story, plus this one will have you blushing and panting all the way through ;)
I received this book from the author for an honest review.
I read the first book of this series in July and was begging the author for this book. The first book made me crazy with all the drama, angst and sexual chemistry. The woman can write peps. If you haven't read the fist book, please do yourself a favor and read it. You will not be upset.
So for you who HAVE read the book, there was ALOT of "stuff" to cover this book....carter and Maddy surviving Chris, the trial of Chris, WTH is up with Shawn BUT mainly Jason and Nicole. OMG I was soooo not let down by the instillation. Ashley hit every topic full steam ahead. She mad sure to leave you hanging at the end about something pretty important but still I am ok with this cliff hanger because honeslty I am in love with these characters.
Carter is the sweet, sensitive, "girl" of the guys. Shawn and Jason enjoy teasing him about being whipped by Mads but it is sweet. So I declared my heart team Carter UNTIL we get to know man-whore Jason. OMG I think I may be team Jason now. He is so alpha male and it is way hot. I love how the relationship between Nic and J is intense but also fun and silly. She is defo keeping him on his toes which is totally new for him. He can have, and does, have every girl who walks in his path. Nic is NOT like those girls at allllll. I think my favorite part was during the finalnight of her play when she "took" care of her acting partner. J was pretty proud of her. I also love how, even when girls were throwing themselves at J, Nic trusted him when he said nothing was happening. However the hotel scene where Carter insisted to be as far away form Nic and J had me in a fit of giggles.
My OMG moment......when you find out where Jason's mom has been the last few years. I can tell you I said "HOLY SHTt" and was told by my kids to put a quarter in the swearing jar!!! SERIOUSLY awesome twist!! WELLLLLLLL played because I sooooo didnt see it at allllll.
Anyway, people ya neeeed to read this book. It is abso a series I am on pins and needles to read. I can't stress this enough...one click purchase it already!!!
This novel picks up right where Playing with Fire ended. Madison’s crazy ex has kidnapped her and is speeding away while Carter (Madison’s new boyfriend) lies hurt after Chris shot him. Carter’s friend Jason saw Chris take Maddy and is hot on their pursuit. Things take a turn for the worse and Chris crashes the car. Both are taken to the hospital and Jason’s day only gets harder as he finds Carter hurt and bleeding. Chris is arrested, and both Maddy and Carter are on the mend. But there was another casualty in the accident…
Jason and Nicole, Maddy’s friend, hooked up on New Year’s Eve. Jason left Nicole before she woke up the next day as he has huge commitment issues. His sister died years ago and as a result his mom walked out on him and his dad. He won’t risk his heart again. These two are thrown in each other’s paths because of these events and both can’t stay away from each other. Nicole tries to get Jason to break down the barriers he constantly puts around his emotions. Each time she makes up her mind that she won’t keep letting him hurt her, that is the time Jason is determined not to let her go.
When it seems as if these two will finally find some happiness in their relationship, they each discover something out at the same time that is completely unacceptable to Jason and once again he leaves. Meanwhile, Maddy is dreading the court case against Chris, his father’s influence has managed to distort the circumstances and it seems no matter how ridiculous it is, Chris always seems to manage to avoid punishment.
I enjoyed this book. There are some new stories from secondary character coming into play. Shawn’s actions indicate he has a lot going on that he isn’t being honest about and I’d like to find out what that is about. I hope in the next one, Chris finally gets what is coming to him.
Let me start off by saying I was on the edge of my seat in chapter one because of the cliffhanger from book 1. Getting Jason point of view on the events leading up to the crash had me cursing him out from the jump.
I LOVED the back and forth of him and Nicole and enjoyed how no matter what she did not give up on the relationship in which she knew they were supposed to have. Jason was a sexual, jealous being who "looked out" for his own. It was fun reading "me Tarzan, you Jane". I have to tell you though there was a surprise out of this world with the connection the two of them shared.
For the story within the story had me worried I thought it was going to be a conclusion for Madison and Carter but oh NO, the plot thickens. The mystery of Shawn has my mind boggling and I am on edge but have my thoughts on his story as well.
Ashley will keep you coming back for more with this series but I do suggest you start off with book 1 to get the FULL understanding of how it all started. This is a MUST read series
If you have not read Playing With Fire yet, please do so before reading Breaking Through The Wall. Jason Smith hated the whole idea of relationships and commitment. He got what he needed from girls but that’s where it ended. At least that was how it was supposed to be. After a traumatic event he gets involved with the one girl who could force him to change his ways. Will he be able to commit to her though? What do you do when your whole world is turned upside down? When everything comes crumbling down around you, will you have the will to fight and break down the wall?
Breaking Through The Wall picks up right where Playing With Fire left off. This book is about Jason and Nicole as well as the continuation of Madison and Carter’s cliffhanger. This book didn’t disappoint, let me make that perfectly clear. I loved Playing With Fire and while I was anxiously waiting for this book to come out I didn’t know if it would live up to the same hype Playing With Fire did, it didn’t, it went above and beyond in my opinion.
I loved the relationship between Jason and Nicole. At times it wasn’t pretty because of Jason’s actions but it was real. Nicole knew who she wanted, Jason, but she also didn’t just lay down and let him walk all over her. When she needed too she called him on his shit, which made me proud. Jason, while at times a complete and utter asshat, was also a good guy. He needed someone like Nicole to open his heart. When he finally pulled his head out of his ass I had a tear in my eye because both he and Nicole deserved to be happy together.
Madison and Carter had a lot to work through after the tragic events that occurred at the end of Playing With Fire, and I was drawn into their pain once again. I love the love that they share for one another, Carter love Madison so much and vice versa. Their story has never been easy but it is one filled with emotion. Just when you think that everything will finally work out, Chris and all the trouble he brings once again comes into play. While this isn’t a cliffhanger like Playing With Fire was, there still is one because you don’t know what trouble Chris will cause.
Ashley Piscitelli is working her way onto my can’t wait to read what she writes next list. I hope to be able to have the honor yet again to review the next book in the Guarded Hearts series because this one has sucked me in from the start.

**DO NOT READ THIS REVIEW IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE FIRST BOOK IN THIS SERIES (PLAYING WITH FIRE)**
WOW! I am actually left somewhat speechless after reading this book! But in a really good way. As you already know, Playing With Fire left off with a super HUGE cliffhanger. Breaking Through The Wall basically picks up from where the story had left off, but gives Jason's perspective as to what happened through his eyes at the end of book 1 which I thought was pretty neat. It brought back all the anxiety I had while reading about Chris kidnapping Madison and then getting in that car crash. And all I could think was omg is she going to live? Did she lose the baby? And I found myself screaming in my head "WAKE THE HELL UP GIRL! YOU CANNOT LEAVE THIS MAN." Carter was just so so sweet... and I'm talking seven layer chocolate fudge cake sweet (Does it get any sweeter than that? Damn, now I want chocolate... thanks brain!). The entire book went back and forth between a few different characters POV's, however the main focus was on Jason and Nicole this time (But Madison and Carter were still big parts in it as well). The alternating POV's was done extremely well, and really gave some good insight into what was going on in each ones head without replaying what you had already read. I really loved this about the book.
With Jason and Nicole having hooked up a few times, it was obvious that there was some MAJOR chemistry between those two. And not just the aww she likes him, he likes her bit. I am talking about full blown, pure, raw, sexual chemistry. But with them, its not just all sex. Jason isn't one to date. With his sister dying when they were younger, and his mother just up and leaving him and his dad not long after that, Jason doesn't allow himself to get close to anyone... especially not girls. But there is something about Nicole that he just cannot ignore, no matter how much he tries. And man does he ever try to push her away. The constant back and forth between them was so intense, and you never really knew where it was going to go next. They were together, they weren't. He wanted to try, then he didn't. I really wish I could have jumped right into that book and knocked some sense into Jason because I really adored Nicole's character and felt so bad for her at times, yet it wasn't enough to make me dislike Jason AT ALL. How can you not love a guy that just oozes sexuality and hotness! The sex that these two would have was so hot, they probably could have melted all of Antarctica. Seriously, these two weren't afraid to get down and dirty anywhere! At a wedding, in the hot hot tub, in the changing room at a store, and even some dirty deeds right at the table in the bar when they were there with their other friends. I swear sometimes I had a difficult time picking my jaw up off the ground! I absolutely loved how you got to see a softer, sweeter side of Jason in this book. He definitely gave Carter a run for his money! Ashley, the author, had asked me if I was team Carter or team Jason after finishing Breaking Through The Wall. Well, truth is, I was totally head over heels for Carter. But the further I got into this book, the more I was teetering back and forth and I started to become unfaithful to Carter. By the end, I am left with a very solid answer... I am team BOTH. I absolutely cannot chose between these two!
"I know how to make you crazy, and I love every minute of it. I will always take care of you, baby."
The one thing that was still left unanswered in this book, that was also never answered in book 1 was what in the fudge is going on with Shawn?!?! I mean seriously he has become very shady! He did not play a very big part in this book, but it is still really bugging me not knowing! My friend Marisa (from i'll be reading) and I were talking and came up with a few different thoughts as to what it could be... drugs, steroids, underground fighting, mafia... but there really is no clue or hints as to what is actually happening. Please please please let it all be explained in the next book before i lose my damn mind!
One of the best things about this book (other than the hot guys and crazy sex) is the fact that it kept surprising me! Especially towards the end. I swear in the last 10-15% of the story I must have said "holy shit! I did NOT see that one coming" at least 5 times! I mean just when you thought one thing, another thing came and threw you for a loop! And once again, the book ended with a total cliffhanger, and a very unexpected one at that! I absolutely cannot wait for the next book to come out!
"Baby, when I was watching you tonight this was the only thing I was thinking about. Every man in that place wanted you tonight, but you are mine and I'm about to remind you exactly why that is."
Breaking Through the Wall by Ashley Piscitelli begins where it left off in Playing With Fire! I loved the way Ashley started Breaking Through the Wall. From the beginning we get to hear Jason's POV. I also loved that Maddie and Carter were still present in Breaking Through the Wall, and that we get to read from their POV as well. But Breaking Through the Wall is Jason and Nicki's story.
No girl had ever held my attention for this long, much less made me feel the way I do when I’m around her. Jason is your typical bad boy, player, man-whore. Just the guy that you're parents would disapprove of dating. Did I like Jason's character? Yes, I loved his character as much as I loved Carter's character in Playing With Fire. I blame Jason's father for his way of thinking when it comes to relationships, and his mother when it comes to women. His mother abandoned them when he was little, and his father made him believe that relationships didn't work and that he would only suffer if he ever committed to be in a relationship. Yeah, how messed up is that! What did I love about Jason's character? I loved that he was protective of Nicki, his courage to stand-up for his love for Nicki, and his possessiveness of Nicki. I don't like it when guys are way over protective, but his possessiveness does safe Nicki in Breaking Through the Wall- won't say what it is, because you will just have to read the book ;).
I am making it my mission to make him mine. If I have to get a little dirty to do it, then so be it. I just loved Nicki's character right from the beginning of the Guarded Hearts series! Nicki comes from a family with money, but she doesn't have the perfect life. Her father and stepmother are always traveling, and don't pay attention to her existence. She always helped and supported Maddy right from the start, and she helped Maddy open up to let others in her life. What do I love about Nicki's character? I loved her stubbornness, her independence, and that she never gave up on Jason. Other girls would have just forgotten about a guy who would just be going to them for sex, but she knew deep down that he cared for her and that he just needed a little push to accept this. Now, this girl can be stubborn. When she wants something she will do anything to get it- in her case she wants Jason- and she doesn't mind playing a little dirty to get deep under his skin.
If I stay, though, then I won’t be able to stay away from her. She is like a magnet for me and that is dangerous. Jason and Nicki first get together or more like have a one-night-stand in Playing With Fire. Their relationship ever since that night has only been that they might pump into each other and just have sex. Jason is always the one to leave, because he never wanted to be in a relationship. When these two are in a room together they can't keep their hands off each other. They are literally jumping each other and tearing their cloths off. Yeah, there is a lot of hot sex! I thought Nicki had a clever idea to make Jason realize what it would be like if he didn't start to get serious with her. I just loved these two together :D!
Jason took every last part of me with him when he left. Of course Ashley Piscetelli knows how to through a few curve balls and twists in her story. Just when everything is going just right in Jason and Nicki's relationship, something big happens that you will not see it coming. My jaw dropped to the ground with this twist in the story. I seriously didn't see this coming.
I am going to stray a little bit away from Jason and Nicki's relationship, because Maddy and Carter are having their own issues. If you read Playing With Fire, then you remember Chris, Maddy's psycho ex-boyfriend. I hoped that he had died in the car crash, but he just walked off perfectly fine! How the hell does that happen? Now only does he walk off better than Maddy from the accident, but he might also get away with kidnapping and hurting Maddy! What the hell? We are going to be getting more psycho Chris in the third installment of the Guarded Hearts series, because at the end of Breaking Through the Wall, Ashley puts a little of his POV. This gave me the chills. Can't wait to see what happens next!
Her showing me that she wasn’t going anywhere, was definitely something I needed. Breaking Through the Wall by Ashley Pistecilli exceeded my expectations! I loved Playing With Fire, but I loved Jason and Nicki's story much more in Breaking Through the Wall. There is love, passion, friendship, loss, danger, and the twists Ashley throws in the story just made it perfect! This was a fast paced read, and I can see myself re-reading it later on in the year. That is how much I loved Jason and Nicki's story! Again, Ashley why did you have to end it like that with Chris's POV! I am dying to know what will happen next.
*************3.5 stars************* ***I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review **
Breaking Through The Wall continues with Madison and Carter’s story but it is much more Jason and Nicole’ story.
Jason Smith is Carter's best friend; he has some commitment issues because when he was younger his sister died, and not long after his mother walked out on him and his father. So as a result, he doesn’t let anyone get too close, he finds it hard to trust people, doesn’t do relationships. “The less people I let in, the less of a chance I have of getting hurt” ~ Jason
That was until he met Nicole, and as much as he tries, he can't get her out of his head, he can’t stay away from her, and something about her makes him want more that just casual sex.
"I was lying there with her and knew that it was different. I wanted a normal relationship, but wanting one and being ready for one are two completely different things” ~Jason
“I get that you have commitment issues, but you know that there is something here. You can keep fighting it or accept It. I’m not going to wait around forever” ~ Nicole
Jason and Nicole are definitely a hot couple together. Loved Nicole and that she knows how to handle Jason, and as much as I liked him, his dirty talking and his alpha male ways. I found his jealous and possessive side a bit over the top at times.
It was great to get more of Madison and Cater, I liked them as a couple, and after their cliffhanger ending in the last book I wanted to know if and how their relationship would survive.
“I love how much you opened up to me and trusted me. You are the reason I breathe, and when I thought you were gone I was lost” ~ Carter.
Madison with the help of Carter is recovering from her traumatic ordeal at the hands of her ex boyfriend Chris, (which you get to read about at the start of the book) and knowing that he may get away with what he did to her is not helping.
“It was breaking my heart, that way she was right now. I need you to let me back in baby”~ Carter
I liked the storyline, and how it was told from the POV’s of Jason, Nicole, Madison and Carter, it worked really well loved getting inside their heads to see that they all were thinking. There are a few twists and turns, some surprise along the way, and one was definitely a shocker, there was romance, and some angst. The story is fast paced and I did feel that because of this some aspects of it were rushed, and had it of been slightly slower they could have been developed more, and I would have had the edge of the seat feeling that I had while reading book one, and as much as I loved all the steamy sex scenes between Jason and Nicole and Wow! There were lots of them ;) I did start to feel I want less steam and more about them as a couple.
Overall I did enjoy this book, when I started it I was thinking that it was going to be the conclusion to Madison and Carter’s story however, by the end of the book I knew differently. The teaser from Chris’s POV that Ashley Piscitelli’s gives you at the end of the book means that not only do I still want to take a cricket bat to his head, but Madison ordeal with Chris is far from over.
I'm looking forward to reading the next one in the series, and I also hope that Ashley is writing a story about Shawn, as I so want to know what is the mystery surrounding him. If you are looking for a quick, easy, sexy read where the story is fast paced then 1-click this book, but only after you have read book 1 to understand the history between Madison, Carter and Chris.
This is the second book the Guarded Hearts series and it is better than book 1. You won’t be disappointed.
I really like the continuation of the story of this loveable, and sometimes damaged, group of friends. These young people grow closer together as relationships develop and new friends come into their circle.
Breaking Through The Wall continues with Madison and Carter’s story. Their love life is solid but they are still dealing with Madison’s crazy ex-boyfriend. Chris (the ex) is stalking Madison and determined to make her life miserable. Chris wants her to come back to him. Carter is a true protector and worries about Madison whenever he isn’t with her. They are so cute together.
At the same time Jason is getting bored with his many one night stands. Nicole is on his mind whenever he goes out on a date. For a man like Jason who doesn’t believe in permanent relationships Nicole’s pull on his heart strings is driving him crazy. Jason knows he has to make a decision about moving forward with Nicole.
Nicole wants a relationship with Jason. Who wouldn’t he is fun, hot and a good guy. However, Nicole knows she has to start dating someone else or Jason will continue to take her for granted. The scene when Jason, Nicole and her new “friend” are at Carter’s house is really fun. I love how this whole relationship plays out. It is great and I can see this event actually happening as written.
Shawn is still acting weird. Shawn is Carter and Jason’s high school friend. The group is worried about the double life that he appears to be living. I can see this playing out many different ways so good and some not so good. I hope Shawn doesn’t make me cry.
I can’t really go into the story in depth. There are so many twists and unexpected events presented that add to the angst of the story. It is better for the reader to come in fresh and be as shocked as I am. While the book is a short quick read the plot is solid and packed full of love and unexpected twists and turns. I love the way the characters are developed and grow in each book. It is very easy to fall into their life and feel their love, pain, joy, disappointment, etc. The support characters (family mostly) add to the story and the readers’ knowledge of the characters. Each person in the group is easy to love and the villains are the type you just love to hate.
I held off writing this review because I was concerned when I saw on Amazon that book 3 is out of print. I am happy to report that Ms. Noelle contacted me and let me know that her publisher is re-releasing book 3 soon. I really need to know what happens next with this group. I really, really want more of the story.

Breaking through the walls is the second book from Alexis Noelle and it picks up right were Playing with fire left off from Jason's POV. Maddy is seriously injured during the car crash taking away the life of her unborn child. Jason feels guilty because he was late getting to her place from being on a date with someone he could not care any less about. Women to him now are all distraction to try divert his mind from Nicole but nothing seems to be working. After Maddy is taken to the hospital Jason sets about find Carter, as we know from Playing With Fire Cater was shot and laying on the ground unconscious and that is were Jason finds him....good news the bullet went straight through his shoulder so he was not too badly hurt. Jason is completely devastated at what has happened to his closet friends Shawn is not around much so he has no one else to turn to but Nicole (Maddy's best friend).
Nicole form a crush on Jason as soon as Maddy introduced them, but he seems uninterested and does not really give her the time of day until they hooked up on New Years. There is something special between them she feels it and so does he but Jason wants nothing to do with the kinds of feelings she evokes in him so he pushes her away time and time again only hooking up when he can't stay away from her any longer. "No girl has ever held my attention for this long, much less made me feel the way I do when I'm around her"~Jason Maddy wants nothing more than to be with Jason but he keeps running so she is determined to break through his walls and claim him as hers.
I really love Jason in this book once he opens up and show his more vulnerable side he is so sweet, caring, loving, attentive and his possessive alpha male is seriously HOT "You Jane, Me Tarzan" act he had it down to tee. The sex is unbelievably crazy and wild between the two and not to mention public a lot of the times. This book should come with a warning that possible underwear combustion/igniting highly likely and you might need a few changes of underwear. Maddy and Carter is having a difficult time getting over the ordeal they suffered at the hands of her ex-boyfriend Chris. To make matters worse Chris's father has managed to get a lot of the vital details emitted from the accident report so its looking likely that Chris will get off with what he has done.
Shawn is still acting weird (I think he is doing underground fighting) I'm looking forward to finding out what's up with him and getting to know his story. At first I wasn't too sure about the two stories running together but it was actually quite cool. Great second book, loved the ending now I can't wait for MORE!!!!
I have to be honest…I was a tad bit scared to read this book. Seeing how Playing With Fire (book one in the series) ended, and literally left me hanging off the damn cliff, I was definitely nervous but extremely excited to get my hands on this story…and I was not disappointed! OMFG…my mind was in a literal daze through the whole story, just wanting to know how everything is going to end up and what will come next.
We pick up after Chris (the psychotic ex boyfriend) has kidnapped Maddie, not to mention Jason finding Carter after being shot by Chris. Yeah that’s a lot to cover, and that’s just the beginning of the endless cycle of chaos and drama that this story brings to you. The best part is, we get to dive into the relationship of Jason and Nicole, which I’ve been dying to do, and what this book is based around.
Jason is your so-called “bad boy/man whore”…good for a one night stand, but never crossing that path into something more. He has extreme trust issues brought on by his mother and her past decisions. We see him fighting his feelings for Nicole in Playing With Fire, and that comes to a complete head in Breaking Through The Wall. Nicole knows the reasons he’s reluctant to pursue a real relationship with her, and she does whatever it takes to push him over the edge…and I mean this girl pushes, and there are some epic set-ups on her part! Jason is total alpha male too, which can be a lot to handle, but is also sexy as all get out! Let me tell you, these two have some scorching chemistry that cannot be denied…it’s damn HOT!
We also can’t forget Maddy and Carter, who just want their best friends to open their eyes and get their crap together, once and for all. Maddy and Carter have been through hell, dealing with the Chris situation, and they just want happiness and love to out way the bad. Then there’s Shawn, who has been a total mystery to his friends as of late. They don’t know what to think about his actions anymore, and it scares them all. What could possibly be going on with him? Oh we shall find out in the next installment of this series, and I’m already racking my brain with theories, which in time, is going to drive me freaking crazy!
The clincher for me was finding out where Jason’s mom has been all these years, after she basically ran out on him and his father. Can you say instant heart attack? Yeah, I need more than a few minutes to recover from that one…good god!
Breaking Through The Wall by Ashley Piscitelli picked up exactly where book 1, Playing With Fire, left off. It is necessary to read book 1 because it does continue Madison and Carter's story. In this book, we get to follow Nicole and Jason's story. Even though we followed two couples, Madison and Carter did not overpower the book. I understood why once I reached the end of the book ... That psychopath ex-boyfriend is still going to make Madison's life a living hell. I was a bit disappointed that we did not turn the page on that chapter of her life. I was under the impression that this was going to get resolved at the beginning of the book. This book has 4 POV's and what I liked most about it is that the author did not replay the same scene all over again, she picked up where the last character left off. This book had a few twists and turns that I was not expecting and I loved it!
Madison tries to get over all these events that have been happening in her life and with Carter's unconditional love and support she recovers well. I missed reading about these two characters and now that I know we will get more of their story I'm happy! I wanna see Chris behind bars for all he's done to Madison and Carter. Those few ligns that we got to read in his POV at the end of the book got me so mad!!!
Nicole and Jason were FIREEEE! Wow! I lost count of all the steamy scenes that these two shared. Most of their story revolves around these sexy scenes. I wanted to read more about their feelings for each other and not only about their intimate moments. Jason has a hard time trusting people after what his mom did to their family. Nicole is the only person that is able to get under his skin and break the wall that is protecting his heart. I loved Nicole's personality, she really knew how to drive Jason nuts! LOL!
I can't wait to follow these two couples again in the next book. I did not find a link for Shawn's story, but I really hope he gets one. I can't wait to see what he's been hiding from his friends.
My Rating:
I give Breaking Through The Wall by Ashley Piscitelli 4 steamy stars! Nicole and Jason had undeniable chemistry together. Once Jason got over his insecurities, he got the normal relationship he always dreamed of.
**JUST BOOKED received an ARC for an Honest Review**
WOW! Author, Ashley Piscitelli, still impresses me after read her first debut novel, Playing With Fire, and now with her second novel, Breaking Through The Wall, in the Guarded Hearts series. If you have not read the first novel in the series, be sure to read it so the characters stories will explain how the events occurred leading to the second novel, Breaking Through The Wall, and there will no regrets. Playing With Fire is the story of Madison Stevens, Chris Johnson, and Carter James. Breaking Through The Wall begins immediately were Playing With Fire left us on that dreadful cliffhanger. Chris has gone crazy and obsessed to keep Madison for himself, she finds herself in a hospital due to an accident.
Nicole Williams is one of Madison beautiful friends, with long strawberry blond hair, blue eyes, and a curvaceous ass. Then there is Carter’s friend, Jason Smith, tall, dark, brooding, with dark brown hair and memorizing chocolate eyes. Carter could have any girl he wants, but he cannot deny the attraction he feels for Nicole, especially after the night they had on New Year’s. Unfortunately, for Nicole, Carter does not believe in relationships due to his mother walked out on him and his father years ago when his sister died. He feels if he makes a commitment to someone that history could replay the sorrows he felt when he was younger, so instead he keeps away from commitment and builds a wall around his heart. What Carter never planned was on the stubborn and tenacious Nicole, to break down all Carter’s walls especially the one guarding his heart.
Breaking Through The Wall is a great steamy love story that will capture your attention immediately and will be unable to put the book down. While reading, you will find yourself on an INTENSE emotional roller coaster experiencing many emotions like being MAD, SAD, SCARED, CRYING, LAUGHING, HOT and FALLING IN LOVE.
I rate Breaking Through The Wall - 5 AMAZING STARS!
After being left hanging at the end of Playing with Fire it was a no brainer that I had to read Breaking Through the Wall. There were so many things left unanswered that I just had to know the answers to. We still get to see everyone from book one no one is left out. If you have not read Playing with Fire what are you waiting for go get it and read it first.
This starts with Jason’s POV on what happened to Maddy and Carter at the end of Playing with Fire. I was such an emotional ride to see it happen in Maddy’s POV but to see it in Jason’s was just as hard. Even though there is some left over storyline from Maddy and Carter this is Jason and Nicole story and wow do they have a story. Jason’s mom left when he was little and he hasn’t seen her since. His dad has nothing good to say about relationships which has rubbed off on Jason. Nicole deals with her Dad and a step mother that cannot stand her.
I absolutely love the way Nicole gets Jason to admit that he wants to be with her. It was like I could just see Jason’s face when a certain someone leaned in a gave him a peck on the cheek before leaving that night, priceless. It is not an easy journey for Nicole and Jason they have to deal with his Dad and her parents, then there is Aaron, her acting partner in the big play. I love that Jason is the big Alpha jealous type that doesn’t like any male touching or showing Nicole any attention. I also love that Nicole doesn’t back down and keeps Jason on his toes.
I will say we do get some insight into some things in this book but not 100% of the answers but I love that we are kept in the dark and have to keep reading. Like what is up with Shawn Matthews? He has a ton of secrets and going off on Madison like that; Wow is all I have to say. There are still the unanswered questions of Chris hanging out here. Then there was that twist that shocked me. Well played Ashley Piscitelli!!
So here is to waiting until Shawn’s book comes out to find out what is going on there and to see how everything else turns out.
Okay so I have to admit, I didn't enjoy Breaking Through The Wall as much as Playing With Fire. While I do enjoy Ms. Piscitelli's writing style, I felt the story line was lacking and replaced instead by an unbelievable amount of sex. All these guys think about is getting laid and that seemed to make up a majority of the book. I wasn't really feeling the sex scenes either. It was like they all morphed into porn stars, and not the good kind. I'm not a prude by any means, erotica is another one of my favorite genres, but I was a little bit turned off by all the sex talk. It just didn't fit into the story, in my opinion.
***Possible Spoiler Ahead*** Besides Jason & Nicole exploring the possibilities of a relationship nothing really happened. It's kind of like we're at a stand still right now. We hear a little more about Shawn and his strange behavior but don't make any progress on the cause. Chris is only mentioned in name, he doesn't make any reappearances and that particular part of the story doesn't develop any further. ***End of Potential Spoiler***
This isn't an entirely negative review though, I did enjoy some parts. So here's what I loved about the guys: they never got themselves into sticky situations with the skanks that were pursuing them. They came flat out and said "not interested, not happening, goodbye." Gotta love it! The girls are fiercely loyal to each other & won't hesitate to go to bat when necessary. I seriously appreciate the fact that the author doesn't fall prey to all the stereotypical scenarios that play out so often in New Adult novels. She does her own thing and puts a fresh spin on her stories with some unexpected plot twists.
So all in all it's not a bad read but it just wasn't what I had hoped for as a follow up to Playing With Fire. I will definitely be reading the next book b/c I have to know how this all ends and I'll be expecting the unexpected since that's how Ms. Piscitelli operates!
This story takes right off where the first book did. If you haven't read Playing With Fire and don't want any spoilers I advise you to stop reading now. But if you don't care about spoilers like me then be my guest. That evil boy Chris has shot Carter and has kidnapped Maddy. I know how awful! Just when you think she's finally found happiness you get punched in the stomach. Long story short Jason sees everything and follows them trying to rescue Maddy. Unfortunately he is too late and well it's kind of sad. So this tragedy brings Jason and Nicole closer together. They are both there for one another. I honestly think that they are the only two people that can be there for each other. They are both so close to Maddy and their love for her is what keeps them both going. So tragic but there definitely was a light at the end of the tunnel. I have to give Ashley some props she really knows how to write a sex scene. There were many and I had to stop and ask myself are these to rabbits. I mean they really liked having sex. When they do realize there is something much more to what they have, well it's just beautiful and you will just want so much more from them.
What can I say about Jason and Nicole. They are a perfect match. They can give each other what the other needs. I absolutely love when Nicole calls Jason J I'm not sure why I love it, but I think it's just very endearing. Now it's not all rainbows and butterflies for them. They have a lot to work through with both of their issues. Nothing worth holding onto isn't worth the work. I would recommend this book for the sex alone it's amazing. I also would say pick it up for the beautiful story and some of the surprises along the way.
This story starts off right where Playing With Fire ended with Chris having shot Carter and kidnapped Madison. You get a good bit of Carter and Madison in this story, which I loved. But you mostly get Jason and Nicole which was fun. I love Carter, he's sweet, caring and romantic. But wow! I have to say I love Jason too, but because he's rough, protective and bada$$. Both men are hot and you will love them both, and their girls. Somethings up with Shawn, but we won't find out until the next book. And Chris will be going to court, but I'm hoping something seriously bad happens to him. You'll love the romance that blooms between Nicole and Jason, and wait until Jason sees an old relative. Cannot wait for the next book in this series. Great second book that you'll enjoy which will leave you ready for the next one.
Five big ol' stars! This book was very very good! If you read the first one then you have been waiting on the edge of your seat for this one and it was worth the wait! Ashley Piscitelli has delivered a book to rival Playing with Fire which is a pretty hard feat. I absolutely loved her first book and fell in love with all of the characters. Who would have thought that there could be a couple as cute as Carter and Maddy? Well Nicole and Jason do it! This book has pretty much everything you could be asking for drama, suspense, romance, comedy, you name it and it is in here. There is an added bonus at the end of this book, you get a sneak at the next book Ashley is working on! I am already checking for updates on a release date daily! I need my to know what happens to my friends! This definitely needs to be added to your TBR list! ~ Leslie A
Jason is a man who dates a women for a night and is done with them. He finally meets his match when he meets Nicole but can he stay away from her without going crazy? He finds that he has feelings for her but doesn't know what how to handle them. Nicole really wants Jason but she also knows his history with the women when sparks fly between these two can they make it work? I loved this couple and leaving off at book 1 chris 's family payoff the ppl to keep what he did hidden and his family warned him to stay away from maddy. when she wakes up after the wreck she finds that her world is shatter when she looses the baby in the wreck. Carter finds out about the baby and lets maddy know he isn't going anywhere. they have such a love that is strong. Chris is up to no good and vows to get her back. I am so loving this author and this books I was gifted this book for my honest review
I thought carter had my heart, but the more I read Jason's story the more I starting leaning towards him. Nicole is one lucky girl. To have such an intense handsome man, that just does a 180 and is fully committed. I won't give out any spoiler, but I do recommend this series. I knew I was hooked when I was able t out tune out lost girl and being human on tv to finish the book. I was left wanting more. Ashley has not disappointed me thus far. I love it when a series has me hooked and I have to get the next one just because I need to know what happens. My emotions are split into three areas. Each guy has a piece of my heart. Even Shawn. I need to know what is going on with him. :)
Breaking Through the Wall was an easy, quick read that made me laugh but also made me HOT with some great sexy scenes! Great back-and-forth pull with alpha male Jason and sweet, innocent but strong, Nicole. We also got more of Carter and Maddy... more of their HEA and what seems to be a HEA for J and Nic. Still left with some mystery about Shawn. Looking forward to Fighting to Survive!
This book was gifted to me by the author in exchange for an honest review Jason is so cute makes you want to pick him up and bring him home and mind him aww bless lol ,I am really loving this series the stories are fast paced and fun filled romance, I have hardly been able to put these books down great book Ashley on to book 3 for me, have I mentioned I'm glad I don't have to wait and could read them one after the other I think the cliffhangers would have me screaming ha 5 huge stars well done.
This was an amazing second book to a series that continues to get better and better. I love how the author gives you pov's from all characters. I feel in love with the story of Nic and Jason just as much as Carter and Maddy, who we continue to learn about in here. I think it is amazing how she captures real life ups and downs and still leaves you wanting more. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves romance and learning to know what it is to love and be loved. I can't not wait to read the next book.
Wow! This book combines Maddy, Carter, Jason and Nic :) We read about Jason And Nicole's relationship and issues... We learn what happened after the cliffhanger in this first book, but that being said, there isn't a conclusion to the Maddy, Chris ordeal... Thinking book three is gonna be good!! Also what is going on with Shawn??!
Loved this book, it follows the first book really well. Jason is a total dog, but Nic believes he's worth it, thank goodness!! plus the different points of view bring the stories up to date! try it, but read guarded hearts book 1 first, it's worth it!!! book three promises more......
