One fateful tail-bender leaves Mara Colgen with a hard-on for Jace Mathews which is not how Mara anticipated meeting the hottest man alive. Or, rather, one crappy afternoon bodyguard Jace gets a rude awakening when some cutesy blonde rear-ends his beautiful truck. Now he’s really in for it. Mara’s pretty, funny, and has the greatest job in the world…
She is a sex toy operator.
Just those three words send Jace into a dream-like coma plagued with erotic imagery featuring the spunky sex toy operator. As luck would have it for Jace, nothing’s easy. Mara comes to him with a problem…one he cannot refuse to help her out with. Someone strange keeps calling Mara, she thinks someone’s been in her house, and worse Jace might be thinking the same thing. Mara needs help and Jace finds he’s the right man to lend a (strong) helping hand—so long as they seal the deal with more than a kiss.

This book held great promise. The premise of the story was intriguing, the characters held a lot of potential, and the story itself was fun and sexy. While I did like this book, there were too many things that were just a tad bit off to make me love it.
The biggest thing that took from the story was the many, many inconsistencies – in character personality and action, in the storyline, and in the timeline. The characters definitely had their moments, but Mara for one changed her mind so often I was never sure which way was up. Poor Jace never stood a chance against her. Jace was okay for the most part, I mean he was definitely alpha male and sexy, but he did some things that would most definitely be considered unethical in his line of work. The redeeming character was definitely Tia. She made me laugh so much, and I absolutely loved her. In the end I guess it seemed to me like the author could not make up her mind over what sort of personality each character should have, so she just threw a bunch together and hoped it worked.
As for the storyline, first off, a mere 24 hours or so after meeting Jace, Mara was declaring that he could be "the one" and he might be the one thing she needs to be to feel complete. Um, after one day you realize this? If the story would have been told over a couple of weeks, I can see it happening, but as it was it was just TOO fast. Another thing was just the inconsistencies in the plot. I won't list them here, but the discrepancies were major enough to detract from the story. There were also a few spelling and grammatical errors, which if this would have been an ARC would not have bothered me, but I purchased it from Amazon which makes me think it should have gone through an editing process at least once before it was published, and as such I have to take those errors into account as well.
As I said, I did like the story, but I had high hopes, and while it was not a complete disappointment I did feel let down.
I'm a big fan of T.A. Grey's Paranormal series so I couldn't wait to read her new Contemporary book and I wasn't disappointed. This book was sexy and Jace is so HOT I loved him. Mara was fun, sometimes she came across shy and unsure and other times she was a sex kitten loved that. I hope we get to see her friend Tia with Gio, it's going to be fun watching those two get together.
This is T.A.Grey’s first book in the Contemporary Erotica Genre as she usually writes in the Paranormal Genre and she did good she did real good. I’m a big fan so it was nice to see T.A step out her box and take her hand at writing something different and it work for me. The storyline is great you are intrigued from the first page I think reading the word Sex Toy Operator gets your attention, and you want to know more where that leads to and OH boy does it lead to some interesting scenes. Mara is a lovely character you feel her pain you understand her reasons for holding back but you so want to see her give into Jace as it leads to some very scorching hot sex scenes. And after all the reading of sex toys and sex scenes you might find yourself going in search of your own. Ok I will say this out loud “I WANT JACE” he is big, strong and protective and yeah he knows how to use his body not just for his work. He is one hot sexy Body Guard. One of my favourite quotes is... ”You’re like a little kitten.” Her gaze flicked up to meet his. “Kitten? OH, I like that. If I get to be a kitten then you’re my bear.” And that is exactly what Jace comes across as a big cuddly bear. There are some lighter moments one of them being when Mara goes to work to ask for some time off but she is told she needs to test 4 products before she can go. So she goes to a room Jace is stood outside and can hear everything and each time she comes out after testing each product well I’m going to let your imagination work it out but I was giggling at those scenes. The suspense comes in the form of Mara’s Ex Corey now this man is deranged he has found her and is out to destroy her. The scene when it all comes to ahead is just Awesome you find yourself getting involved in this scene. Yeah I was shouting at my kindle and I do love a good fight scene. There is a happy ending and it was sweet. We do meet Tia who is Mara’s friend they have a great friendship they look out for each and there is a moment where one of Jaces friends Rio turns out to be a guy who has been bothering her. But boy is there sexual tension between these two and I hope the next book is about them. As I got a feeling these two will get freaky together. If you looking for an afternoon read that has likeable characters hot sex and some suspense thrown in then I urge you to give this book a go.
Jace, Jace, Jace...I need a bodyguard like this. Once again one of my favorite authors, T.a. Grey, has done it. This book was good.
Mara, a sex toy operator (I am in the wrong profession), literally runs into the soon to be new man in her life and also her new bodyguard.
Mara is just starting a new life after having been in an abusive relationship. Things are going good for her and then she starts getting strange phone calls and unexplained things happening in her house. Instead of getting into a relationship with the new guy, Jace Mathews, who she met when she rear-ended his truck, she has to enlist his security firm for protection.
Jace(Tall, Dark, Handsome)is all in, and not just his job, but he is really interested in Mara. Mara still has hang-ups from her previous relationship. She's liking Jace a lot, but she is afraid, especially after she sees Jace take down a drunk groper at a bar she and her friend hanging out at. Thus, begins the back and forth in the relationship, with Mara trying decide if she can trust the man she is falling for.
This is a good book. I didn't put it down until I was finished. Well written sex scenes, buff bodyguards, sex toys, suspense and maniacs. Me and my Alpha Squad sisters(Woot,Woot)are all over it. Do yourself a favor and read it.
I genuinely thought Mara had some bi-polar issues at parts because her reactions were all over the place. Giggling hysterically over Jace's name? I didn't get it. Especially coming on the heels of her car accident which really isn't something most people get giggly after. I would have waved that off as a side effect of her hitting her head (or something), but she kept doing weird things like that and I completely couldn't figure her out.
I also wasn't a huge fan of the way Mara shut Jace down COMPLETELY after he comes to her rescue. Even after he explained his reasoning, she wouldn't budge. Then she turns around and does the dirty with him. And shuts him down again.
Honestly, the more I think about this book, the less I like it. It had some sexy moments and the guys were okay, but Mara really put me off. The cover's hot, though.
4.0 RATING- exactly what I needed to read. Short, cute, and steamy. Few editing issues (missing word or word used out of sequence) but easy to overlook. Heroine was quirky and fun. Hero was protective and sexy. Not a book to take too serious. Rated high on the readability scale. Only sorry there's no other books released in this series yet. I liked it!!
"JACE: BODYGUARDS FOR HIRE" by TA Grey is one of those books that I picked up to read just for me. It caught my eye, I bought it, I read it, I enjoyed. No review "required", but I wanted to put one out there because this was such a fun book!
I've been a fan of TA Grey's for a while; I ran across her during one of my hunts for shapeshifter novels & found that she has a couple series involving werewolves - the Kategan Alphas & the MacKellan Alphas (see below for more information).
"Jace" is NOT a paranormal book - it would fall into the contemporary/erotic romance category. Jace is, obviously, a bodyguard - actually he's the owner of the security company; Mara is a client with a psychotic ex-boyfriend who is hunting her down. However, they don't initially meet because she needs his services; she rear-ends his bright, shiny new big black truck. Really, I got sucked into this book from the first pages, because the character interactions were so HYSTERICAL that I just wanted to keep going! Why so funny? Well... Mara is a sex toy operator. Yep, you read that right. (And that's exactly the reaction that Mara enjoys LOL!) Now, I guess I never really thought about it, but obviously they DO have to have some sort of human testing on sex toys, right? It can't all be done mechanically... so how do you end up with a job like that? Living close to a very popular sex toy company, I'm half tempted to call & ask them... LOL! The funniest part of the book? When Mara has to test four products before she can take off a few days (to hide from crazy ex) and she keeps exiting the room each time looking more & more relaxed & in a greater state of disarray each time. Just too funny!
Sex is had by all - well, Mara & Jace - no toys needed. Squirm worthy scenes; may have to hunt down your human or (battery-powered) partner afterwards. It's a little under 200 pages so it's a do-able afternoon / evening read!
What a hot sexy read! Jace by T.A. Grey is the first book of her Bodyguards for Hire Series and I have to say I want more! A contemporary romance with some sizzling erotica, lots of witty moments, a dash of danger and a couple you can't help but love, this book has it all.
Mara (our leading lady) finds herself plagued with dangerous phone calls (she is quite certain they are from her abusive ex she has recently ran away from) and while driving, becomes distracted and ends up rear ending a black truck. After a few choice words uttered to herself, she faces the driver of the truck and that is when her life takes another turn.
Jace (our hunky leading man and bodyguard for hire) is completely taken back by the little spitfire who has the nerve to flirt with him after rear ending his truck. Already attracted to Mara, he finds himself handing over his digits, and is seriously lusting once Mara reveals what she does for a living. She is a sex toy operator (seriously is there a job out there like that because that sounds way to good to be true ..lol).
As Mara is further threatened by her ex, she goes to see Jace hoping to secure his bodyguard services (and well if other services are included ... BONUS). Jace agrees to take on Mara's case but only on one condition. A KISS. Well, enter firecrackers, explosions and one serious hot for each other couple and we have the makings for a perfect pair. However, Mara witnesses a side of Jace that is a little too close to her ex's behaviour, and next thing we know she is running for the hills. It's a good thing Jace likes the chase, because there is no way he is letting Mara go anywhere. Despite his attraction, she is in serious danger and he needs to protect her!
This is a shorter read. I enjoyed this book in one sitting, and the pages were eagerly flipped (or e-reader swiped ..lol). The chemistry between these two is impressive and once the hot and heavy begins, watch out! I loved how protective Jace is over Mara. There were times I found myself rolling my eyes and wanting to slap Mara silly, but I suppose after all she has been through, I can appreciate her constant hesitation with regards to Jace! T.A. Grey also introduced a wack of yummy bodyguards, so my anticipation for more is certainly satisfied.
"What can I say? You're gorgeous, and if I can get you in bed I'm going to do it." Holy hell. Things just to a turn for the what-the-fuck. Mara had never had a man speak to her like that.
Having a fangirl moment here, seriously TA Grey NEVER disappoints. While most of her books are from the paranormal zone, occasionally she ventures into contemporary and does it brilliantly. This woman sure as hell knows how to deliver some steam & hott alphas -no matter the genre.
Mara never had much to complain about regarding her job. After all, she worked as a sex toy operator and with all the orgasms she had, she stayed pretty happy most days.
Mara-sex toy operator (I WANT THAT JOB Lol) first meets Jace Mathews when she drives right into the back of his big black truck.
"You're a bodyguard." "Among other things, yeah. What of it?" "Seriously, I'm supposed to believe that?" "Believe what, lady? That is my job. You wanna see my damn name badge too?" "Actually---" "Nah, forget it. I just want to get out of here. It's been a helluva day already and this was the icing on the cake right here."
While their initial meeting isn't ideal, she can't deny she is insanely attracted to him and Mara's personality definitely grabs his attention. But Mara has bigger concerns when her crazy-abusive ex, Corey, comes crashing back into her life. She fled from him two years ago and moved across the country to get away from him, but he found her. Scared out of her mind, Mara turns to Jace for help.
He can't control her any longer. She wouldn't cry for him, wouldn't be scared of him. He was not stronger then her. She could beat him. Because she had a weapon. Jace Mathews.
Spending so much time together fuels their attraction and makes for some crazy hott encounters. Mara's past has her pushing him away out of fear but Jace is not one to give up easily. The closer they get, the more dangerous & unpredictable Corey becomes. Action, suspense, hott & steamy lovin' with a variety of interesting and fun characters. Cannot wait for more from this series. I'm hoping Gio & Tia are up next, they should be interesting ;)
She could snag him with her little finger so quickly and she didn't even know it. Cute. Adorable. Sexy. Fuckable.
"Editing!!!!! He looked like he'd won the jacket... (ya mean jackpot?) And then the music stepped.. (ya mean stopped?). Sheesh. Best typo: He turned and left. He almost, just almost slammed the door shit behind him."
Hated the errors. Story was okay but the h sure was Mary Sue for someone her age with her job.
Had humor - His brow pinched forward. “Now is not the time for jokes. You just wrecked my rear end.” Speaking of, her gaze fell down to his a$s and verified that indeed it looked as hot as the rest of him. Mmm, mmm, good, as her friends would say. “Excuse me, did you just check out my a$s?” The man looked like he didn’t know what to do. She made a perfect Oh did I just do that? face. “Maybe.” She cocked her head, gauging his response.
He grabbed a pen from the middle console and scribbled some numbers on it. “Those are real numbers, right?” she asked. One corner of his mouth kicked up. “As opposed to?” “You know, a local pizzeria’s number or something.” He just looked at her. “Mara, this is my cell number and I want you to call me real soon…to talk.” “Okay.” She snatched the card. “Have a nice day, Jace. And watch your rear end.” She smiled at her cheeky double entendre. The smile he sent her made her dizzy. “I’d rather watch yours.”
Had some heat.
“You’re so beautiful standing there.” Mara’s eyes sprang open. Jace stood close, so close that if he wanted to pull her into his arms, he could. “You might hate me in the morning, but I’m going to kiss you.” Her breath caught. And then he slid his arms around her, pulled her into his heat, and kissed her. The kiss started smooth and slow, tender. In a daze, Mara wrapped her arms around him to feel that big warm chest even closer to her. He pressed up against her in the best way. The way he held her made her feel safe, like he’d protect her from everything. It was beautiful and shattering all at the same time.
Since I've read 'The Loneliest Alpha' I've been hooked with T.A.'s writing although this book wasn't paranormal I still liked reading it. It was quirky, different, and a fun read. Mara she was a total hoot to read about, "Ahem," she cleared her throat. "I'm very sorry about all this. Your truck looked so...nice." She attempted a smile." Jace since Mara mentioned what she did for a living that boy had a one track mind, "and today you got to try a vibrator?" His voice sounded deeper." He's also very forward, "I want to take you out. Tonight, tomorrow, whenever. Tell me what kind of food you like, what things you like and don't like, and I'll give you a time and place." Mara is kind of no different that's why I think they're perfect for each other, "no!" She sounded astonished. "I had to leave because I was seconds away from taking my pants off and riding you and that would have been bad for several reasons only one of which is because I'm loud when I have sex." And she's also a blunt person, "I'll have to disagree. Just because you put your penis inside me does not mean I think any differently about this arrangement, mister." I really enjoyed this book.
I've readed all T.A.Grey`s books and have never been let down by her :) this one is no different it's a hot read .T.A.Grey you rock lol I can't wait for the next instalment xx
The book was ok. There was a scene in the beginning that annoyed me. It was when Mara and her friend, Tia, went to the bar, Inferno, for margaritas. The scene got way out of hand. Mara smiles at this guy, he takes it as encouragement and goes over to her table. She never once told the guy that she was not interested, for him to move along or to leave her alone. No, she would rather sit there and make strange faces at her friend to help her out.
Maybe, I'm being insensitive, but when you are at a bar or club and a guy approaches you and you are not interested, you should speak up nicely but firmly and let the guy know. Anywho, so her Friend, Tia, tells the guy to get his hands off of Mara but he doesn't listens he goes a step further and starts "feeling her up". The whole time, she still hasn't told the guy to go away, or to stop, or something. She just sits there... At his point she should tell him to get the heck away from her or she is calling security and / or the police. Instead, she shoved the guy to the floor, she let the situation escalate. She then had the nerve to be surprised when he got off of the floor angry and slapped her. See, what I mean? The scene got way out of hand with her sitting there waiting for someone to rescue her. She even states: "This got some attention from the people around them. They looked alert at the guy, giving him disgusted looks but no one stepped in to help."_Chapter 4
Then when someone did step in, Jace, and smack the guy around for her, She had the nerve to be angry and afraid of Jace, WTF ? Mara made no sense...... Jace was the only one in the bar that was able to "help" her in that stupid situation but she tells him: “It’s fine. I just can’t be around you.” "How is it she went from feeling crazy over heels about this guy to never wanting to see him again so quickly?"
Really? Again, WTF ?
Mara really annoyed me in that scene. It was she either wanted help and for someone to "save" her or she was going to let the guy hit her again..
Also, one of the characters makes a racial slur. I have an issue when any racial group is insulted. The comment is offensive and should have been omitted. The author did this in another novel, Merely Immortal (The Untouchables #3), as well and I'm not sure if it was intentional or Not........ In Jace, Corey says: "“I gotta say, Marabell, I’m a little disappointed in you. I mean…after all this time you finally fuck something other than one of your toys and he’s black.”"
Was that really necessary?
The rest of the story slightly improved but I did not like the ending and Corey was allowed to get away with way too much.
I became a fan of T.A after reading Chains of Frost. I am used to her writing paranormal erotica genre and the ones I have read thus far are quite good. When she mentioned that her latest release would be in the contemporary erotica genre, I was not sure what to expect. I was silently hoping that it would be just as good as her other work. When I finally got the chance to read Jace my expectations were met. T.A has proven to be just as competent in writing in this genre as she is the paranormal erotica genre.
Mara the female protagonist had recently escaped an abusive relationship. She had settled down into her new life and was working as a sex toy operator only to find that her past had come back to haunt her in the form of her psycho ex-boyfriend Corey.
Jace the male protagonist is a professional bodyguard. He and and Mara literally met by accident. When Mara found out that Jace is a bodyguard she decided to hire him for protection.
The chemistry between these two is hot. Mara was afraid to give herself completely to Jace because of her past experience with men.
The suspense was quite good. It had me on the edge of my seat as I was not sure what would be Corey's next move.
Jace was an absolutely entertaining read and it pulled me in from the beginning. I just could not put it down. This is the first book in the bodyguard for hire series which for is definitely a great start to the series. I can’t wait to read the rest of the books in this series.
I absolutely loved the story. I loved how Jace and Mara first met, instant chemistry. Mara’s quick-witted banter almost makes Jace forget the fact that she crashed into the back of his truck. The story gets more interesting when Jace finds out what Mara does for a living…a sex toy operator. My curiosity was piqued as well!
Mara’s past has caught up with her and she needs Jace’s bodyguard services. Mara’s abusive ex-boyfriend has tracked her down and wants her back. The chemistry between Jace and Mara heat up the closer they become, but an altercation at a bar has Mara rethinking Jace’s advances. She’s already had one abusive boyfriend, she doesn’t want a repeat.
Jace tries to show Mara that he is not like her ex by sharing his abusive childhood with her. While Mara feels bad for what he went through, she just isn’t sure if it’s enough to convince her Jace is different. With her crazy ex’s actions escalating, Mara has to decide whether to trust Jace with her protection…and with her heart.
There is nothing about this book I didn’t like. It was funny, had explosive sex scenes, and equally interesting secondary characters. This is a great, quick read for anyone curious about T.A. Grey’s books.
Mara is getting on with her life after the abuse she sustained at the hands of her ex. She seems to things are getting better for her but are they??? Mara is distracted by her phone and it’s continuously ringing that distracts her and she ends up running her car into the truck in front of her. The owner of the truck is Jace… Mara’s ex, Corey, is trying to make an appearance in her life again… But Jace will be the one that will help protect her utilizing the security business that he is part owner of. There were some editing problems I noticed as well as there was other little things I noticed that were a problem like how the author described the sound of the phone ringing… There was heated chemistry between Jace and Mara, intense action scene at the end with unexpected twists and turns that all made this solid four star read for me personally…
I received a copy of this book for review from a giveaway on goodreads. I wasn't particularly happy with the story even though it sounded good....and dirty. Sex toy operator Mara rear ends body guard Jace's manly black truck when she answers the phone to yell at a person who won't quit calling her. The caller an apparent ex boyfriend who was abusive has found her although she got a restraining order. The plot really was all over the place, and it sounded like the story just added wherever it needed. Like for example the whole 93 degrees, I like plausibility. The whole 93 degrees theory should have happened when she became scared that the thermostat had been moved to ninety three degrees. Instead of it coming out when she is explain to Jace what happened. The details always seemed to come too late which made this read really bland. The sex scenes weren't really there either, and I didn't feel the chemistry for the two. The idea was cute, but the book rated low for me.
It's hard to believe this is T.A. Grey's first contemporary erotic book! From the beginning I couldn't put it down until the last page was read...and then I wanted it to continue! It was so easy to get immersed in the characters of Jace and Mara, I was definitely on "Team Jace" from the beginning and routing for Mara to give him a chance! As for Mara...well really, what woman would not want to be a sex toy operator? I will say there were moments in the book where I could not stop smiling at something she said or did, and other times where I wanted to give her a hug and tell her to stay strong!
I would definitely recommend Jace (Bodyguards for Hire)to anyone looking for a steamy, "feel good" book you will not be able to put down. In fact, you will be asking when the next story in the series will be ready! I am already eagerly awaiting Gio and Tia's story!
Holy hotness and some! Jace is a fabulous hot read, with a kick-ass alpha male. The combination of T.A. Grey's two characters, Jace and Mara, almost set my Kindle Fire alight! The tension was palpable and the relationship dynamics were fabulous.
The humour carried off by Mara's character especially was pee-you-pants funny. There were many one-liners and scenes that were hilariously crafted. T.A. Grey has done a great job at bringing her characters to life.
I loved the concept of this book. If this is what I can expect from the rest of the series, well, I'll be prowling Amazon and all thing Grey-related to pounce on the release of book two.
Disclosure: This book was provided by the author in exchange for an HONEST and not necessarily positive review.
This is my first T.A. Grey story. I did like it, but there were a few things that didn't work for me: Mara came off as kinda...trampy and...clueless? in that first encounter (definitely didn't like her at first)
I felt like we didn't get enough of Jace...well, honestly, this is a short book, so maybe it was just the general length that I was disappointed about. There were times when I felt confused, at the character's behavior or the timeline.
Having said that, it held my interest and I continued to read it and I want to know more about the others. I liked Tia, every girl needs a best friend like her. I like these Alpha male tough guys! I hope to see some more of Gio and Mac. The hotness was....well...HOT!
First of all I have to say that I liked the book to some extent. The story was good but there were a couple of things here and there that were not sitting well with me. First off, there were too many typos. It got a little annoying The other thing was that it was too fast. There was no build up to the romance or the relationship. It all just happened too fast for my liking. Other than that it could have been a better book but for a quick read, it wasn't terrible. I read it in under 4 hours.
I loved this book. If you like suspense, humor, and amazing sex scenes you will love this book. Mara and Jace are wonderfully written characters that draw the reader into their story.
I love these meant to be stories. An "accident" led to Mara and Jace's meeting, which I don't believe in, things happen for a reason. Add in a crazy ex that Mara needs protecting from and some amazingly hot sex and you've got a great read to snuggle up with, just like I'd like to snuggle up with some Jace myself!
DNF. For me, there was very little to like about this Mara. The reason she gave for not being willing to be with Jase was lame. She was a total tease. The secondary character Gio was a gross sexist. The whole story just disappointed. I gave up after skimming too many pages.
It's short and okay. It isn't the best or well written book I have ever read. There were blatant grammatical errors and some moments that were just...odd. The story line is okay. Not the best bodyguard romance. I wouldn't read it again.
Mara (our leading lady) finds herself plagued with mystery phone calls (she is quite certain they are from her abusive ex she has recently ran away from) and while driving, becomes distracted and ends up rear ending a black truck. After a few choice words uttered to herself, she faces the driver of the truck and that is when her life takes turn.
She is a sex toy operator.
As Mara is further threatened by her ex, she goes to see Jace hoping to secure his bodyguard services. She is terrified to open up her heart to another, she doesn't know how to trust. It's a good thing Jace likes to chase, because there is no way he is letting Mara go anywhere. Despite his attraction, she is in serious danger and he needs to protect her!
This read was short, had throughout the read not too much that has you bombarded with overload of information, but the perfect amount. I read this book in one sitting (like two hours) .
For a author to go from paranormal to contemporary romance and to do it so well, you feel that she has been writing contemporary all her life, which again shows her extraordinary talent. Be aware other authors, their is now a new shark in the sea of contemporary fiction, improve your game, or she will swallow you up!
If you looking for an afternoon read that has likeable characters hot sex and some suspense thrown in then I urge you to give this book a go.
