Tristan, Machidiel, and Alastor are bound together by love, but their lives are running far from smoothly thanks to Tristan's demonic bargain with an incubus. Tristan has two choices, remain with the incubus as his trainee or find a mortal to take his place. Neither choice is appealing.
The three lovers struggle to release Tristan from his bargain, only to find bigger problems on the horizon when a human caught up in the mess is taken prisoner by the Demon King himself, with repercussions that could tear their ménage apart forever.
CONTENT This title contains a cliffhanger ending and continues in book 3, Between Life & Death.
I live in England, in a quaint little village that time doesn't seem to have touched. No, wait a minute- that's the retirement biography. Right now I am in England in a medium sized town that no one has ever heard of, so I won't bore you with the details. Keeping me company are numerous sexy men. I just wish that they weren't all inside my head.
Please note, L.M. Brown is no longer active on Goodreads. Although she does occasionally check in to comment on another's blog the visits are few and far between.
This second book in the 'Heavenly Sins' series packs quite a punch. And not just because of the utterly evil cliffhanger (be warned!), but because the whole setup is excellent and the battle between Heaven and Hell gets more intense than ever before. Tristan, the human lover of Machidiel, the angel, and Alastor, the demon, is now a demon as well, but since he was turned against his will via a demonic bargain and is basically a "good guy", he struggles. The three-way relationship is sorely tested, and even though a few questions are answered, many more mysteries appear. It makes for excellent reading, some very tense moments, and overall a very entertaining story.
Tristan remains the lynchpin of the entire battle. You could say it is his soul everyone is fighting for, but Machidiel would say that Alastor's is just as important. Tristan faces an impossible deal, and he is determined to find a way out of it. When he does, he only creates another dilemma, and one that gets everyone into an even bigger mess. No matter what he tries, he cannot gain any ground.
Machidiel is still trying to save his two lovers from eternal damnation. His boss, the archangel Raphael, is not helping and in fact I suspect there is something seriously wrong with him. The heavenly politics and internal battles make everything worse, and the archangel Michael seems to be the only sensible on in the bunch. If Machidiel weren't an angel and infinitely patient, I suspect he would have given up y now.
Alastor has it really tough in this installment. He gets to face his past, and the picture isn’t pretty. I figured it wouldn't be, since whatever he di landed him in Hell, but the truth still shocked me. It almost tears the threesome apart as well as causes him to almost give up.
Like the first book, this sequel held my attention from the first page to the last. The balance shifts more toward the paranormal/fantasy aspects here, with powers being discovered, and dirty fighting employed by all sides – and yes, that includes the angels. Not to mention some very hot activities between the sheets as well as elsewhere! If you like stories with the fate of several people in the balance, if angels and demons and their relationships with each other and humans interest you, and if you’re ready for another emotional roller coaster watching these three men struggle with their fated roles, you will like this book. I loved it and can’t wait for the next one!

This story is part of a series and must be read in order. Tristan, Machidiel (Mac) and Alastor might love each other but the repercussions from Tristan becoming an incubus is much more far reaching than any of them thought. Trying to find a way out of Tristan’s bargain isn’t going well and when Tristan needs help during his training he pulls an innocent into his problems and leads him to danger. With a dream demon playing games with their dreams and an innocent suffering because of Tristan’s choices, Tristan, Mac and Alastor have to face their past to move forward, but it just might tear them apart.
God damn you L.M. Brown, you should be devising torture in Hell, those were my first thoughts when I finished this book, and they were also my second and third thoughts as well…. My fourth thought was ‘where does she live’ because I want that third book now! Tristan, Mac and Alastor are moving into a new home but their happiness is tinged with the awareness of Tristan’s deal with Lawrence. Tristan’s first training session doesn’t go well and the repercussions are far reaching with their repeated combined lives in the past being revealed and the truth of Alastor’s past being revealed.
This is a great story that will pull you every which way as you follow the angel, demon and incubus as they try to sort out their problems. Tristan’s actions are what resound throughout this story, everything he does seems to have devastating consequences. Mac has problems of his own as Raphael tries to convince him Alastor isn’t worthy of his time. Alastor has his past shown to him after being plagued by nightmares and the truth of his long forgotten actions affect his relationship. This is definitely a rollercoaster ride as you cheer for their love and then doubt their actions, at one point you want to smack the crap out of Tristan as he walks away from the mess he makes and you pity Alastor as he still doubts his place in the relationship. We are given insight into others actions and we are given a very surprising twist, we are also left with the big question of just what Tristan, Alastor and Mac are going to do now.
I have to recommend this to those who love angels, demons and incubus getting it on, if you adore conflict and arguments, if you love surprising twists at the last minute and you love cliffhanger endings that leave you panting for more.
3.5 Stars ~ 'Between Good & Evil', book two in LM Brown's series 'Heavenly Sins', started off where the previous book ended. Tristan, Alastor, and Mac are racking their brains trying to come up with a way to get Tristan out of the bargain he made with Lawrence. You remember Lawrence, right? Tristan thought he was his best friend, when, in essence, Lawrence is an incubus and he marked Tristan years earlier to become an incubus, also. If you're confused, then you need to read book one. In my opinion, these are not books that can be read out of order or as stand alones.
So, this installment started off with a bang! In what seems to be becoming a regular occurrence for this triad, Lawrence goes too far, the Demon King punishes him by severing his bargain with Tristan, and sentencing Lawrence to the pit for a couple of centuries. Everything should be good, right? Wrong. The innocent human caught between Tristan, Lawrence, and the Demon King is now stuck in the Underworld forever. Tristan is too good of a man to let that happen, so somehow, they have to figure out a way to save Cody. Of course, Mac, in his infinite wisdom (cause that worked so well for him before), hasn't told Tristan and Alastor about the archangels’ vote to make it illegal to have a relationship between an angel and a demon. Sigh.
Now, much as I discovered after reading the first installment, nothing is simple in these stories. Unfortunately, for me, it's more of a negative aspect, since I can read the writing on the wall, so to speak, and this level of predictability becomes irritating after a while. Nevertheless, watching Tristan, Alastor, and Mac figure out their past life memories was entertaining.
This installment ended on a cliffhanger, although not a surprising one. It will be interesting to see what's in store for the next in the series and I'll be looking forward to it. I do enjoy these guys and the insane shenanigans they manage to get themselves stuck in.

Book 2 in the Heavenly Sins series and if I could give you one piece of advice it would be to read book 1 first! This will not work as a stand alone. This series is proving a bit of a dichotomy for me as fantasy is not normally something I read or enjoy but I have loved both books and can’t wait for book 3!
The series is a fascinating look at the age old war between heaven and hell, good and bad, right and wrong. The problem is of course that demons and angels are not supposed to fall in love but when they do they have to fight that much harder for the right to a HEA. Mac has taken on the responsibility for saving Tristan and Alastor’s souls but it is proving a very difficult job and not everyone is keen to see him succeed. Poor Mac doesn’t even know where to start.
Mac, Tristan and Alastor are busy trying to settle into their new lives as a trio who have all fallen in love with each other. Not too easy when you are Demon, Angel and Incubus and heaven and hell aren’t known for getting along. Tristan is still in the awkward position of answering to Lawrence due to the deal he made for his memories and Lawrence being the awful demon/incubus that he is intends to collect fully.
The deal with Lawrence ends up causing Tristan even more grief when an innocent human becomes involved and ends up being held hostage in the underworld by the demon king. Although this event sees Tristan’s deal with Lawrence broken it starts a chain of events that will hit at the very heart of the threesome. The kidnapped human along with a dream demon will hit at the very heart of these three men leaving them flailing and at a point that they may not be able to recover.
Very quickly these three men seem to be pulling in very different directions. Tristan blames himself for the humans incarceration and sets out to free him. Alastor is having to face his past and his worst nightmares are revealed. Mac has to get over the hurt one of his lovers has caused the other even though that hurt is centuries old. They are all having a difficult time of it and just when you think they will be able to work through their problems there is the mother of all cliffhangers!! I adore these guys and cannot wait for the next installment :-)
Excellent follow up to Between Heaven & Hell. Mac, Alastor, and Tristan just can't seem to catch a break. Lawrence is all over his hold on Tristan and it takes near divine intervention to call that dog (err, demon) off.
Alastor is still my favorite. He may be a fallen angel turned demon, but he is pure goodness where Tristan and Mac are concerned. I seriously hope this series ends with him being forgiven and reinstated in heaven. Once you learn his infraction, you wonder why he was so brutally, and in my opinion, cruelly judged and condemned. Never has a man (ex-angel, current demon) deserved a pardon as much as Alastor...not to mention, that man is HOT!!!
I feel so bad for Alastor. He finally he gets his memory back and learns why he was turned into a demon and cast into hell. I saw it coming but it was still surprising. What I didn't see coming was Mac's reaction. For an angel, and one who has loved Alastor for centuries, I think he overreacted a bit. It also made Alastor feel like a third wheel, and in a menage that is a huge no, no.
Mac is Mac, an angel whose intentions are good, but without the assistance from above, always seems to draw the short straw. I was glad to see Archangel Michael finally come to his aid. Archangel Raphael needs an attitude adjustment. He is no angel that one.
There is a possibility that this will turn into a foursome; if that happens I am not sure how I will feel about it. I was saying no, no, no, when it was implied, and it didn't happen here, but if it does I hope it doesn't ruin a great menage. Fingers crossed.
As with the first book, this one also ends with a cliffy. Not sure how Tristan is gonna climb out of the hole he finds himself in but I can't wait for the next installment to figure it out.
Tristan, Mac and Alastor battle to be together when outside forces from Heaven and Hell try to split them up. There is a surprise twist in this story that has you wanting to dive into book 3 as soon as you finish this.
Tristan, Machidiel and Alastor's story continues. Tristan is now a incubus demon. The relationship between the 3 is still ongoing with a few hiccups along the way. Story ends with a cliffhanger. Best to read all 3 books 1 after the other, best to have all of them ready to read. Entertaining and enjoyable to read.
I read the first book and was so interested in what happens in the second book. This book picks up right after the end of the first book and that was a really great thing.
Tristian, Mac and Alastor are in a world of WTFuckery. Tristian made a deal with Lawrence, the incubus who has been working on Tristian since college to turn into an incubus. Tristian has to go with Lawrence and learn his new powers. It’s not something that he wants to do, as he truly isn’t feeling Lawrence AT ALL!! Mac still has his mission of saving both Tristian and Alastor. Alastor is trying to deal with his feelings of insecurity and jealousy.
On his first trip with Lawrence, Tristian sees this cute younger guy, Cody whom he finds attractive and tries his hand at feeding, yet Tristian can’t do it. Lawrence gets upset and freezes Cody and tells Tristian to undo it and leaves. Tristian gets Cody home and Tristian and Alastor try to help him. It doesn’t work and they go to the Demon King for help. The Demon King does help, however, it comes at a price..Cody. Cody is now stuck in Hell and Tristian and Alastor and Mac are trying to figure out how to save him.
During the time where The Guys are trying to figure out what to do….Mac is dealing with his own issues. Raphael isn’t acting right. He becomes more and more hostile towards Mac and Mac isn’t understanding why. Michael is becoming more of a mentor towards him. It seems to be a power-play in motion and Mac, Tristian and Alastor are pawns. As Archangels, these guys give advice in a round-about way and you can see the help and the manipulations happening.
Alastor is dealing with his jealously of Tristian and Mac’s seemingly wonderful bond. The way they seem to just come together with such ease. It’s hard to see as these two men mean the WORLD to Alastor and he just can’t help himself, he doesn’t think that he matters to them the same way as they do to each other. It was hard to watch him to undervalue his worth in their relationship and that actually carries on throughout the book.
The secondary characters in this book were so great. Michael, who is being helpful and kind and doing his best to help all three of the characters, not just Mac. I really liked that about him. Raphael, well…this “angel” needs to go back and learn some lessons. He’s a dick. But there is more going on with him than we’ve seen thus far. I have a feeling I know what his deal is…but I will wait to see if I’m right. Cody…this poor kid. He’s just out to get laid and ends up in Hell. I get the whole angry as hell, pissed off vibe that he throws out and why he’s got some revenge on his mind. I totally get it. Nybbas, the leader of the dream demons, well he was just a wonderful character. He was snarky, arrogant and jackassiness. Yet, he’s also got something to protect and care for. I actually kinda like him.
There was again a fair amount of sexy time in this story, yet, each time it wasn’t PWP, it was to show emotion. These guys show their love for each other thru the way they are with each other. Their intimate times show what they can’t actually say to each other. I know that they say that they love each other a lot, however, I felt it more in their moments together.
I really liked that this book deals with jealously and one partner’s view of himself in the relationship. I liked that you got to see that these guys were together in a past lives. It was wonderful to know that they have always been bound. I really liked that aspect of the book and even knowing what was happening…it was wonderful to see them deal with what happened and what makes them strong.
I really can’t wait to see how what happens next. Such a fun series that really keeps you hooked and wanting more.

The problems that Tristan, Alastor, and Machidiel face seem to be compounding. Tristan only wants to spend time with his lovers. He can feed his incubus through them. He has no need for lessons from the incubus he made a bargain with in the previous book. There is a part of that deal that he must fulfill though and it has all three men worried. Sadly Tristan is not the only one with troubles. Mac is having problems with his superior. Alastor’s past is haunting him in a way he never dreamed imaginable. An innocent has been caught in the crossfire and it seems like Alastor, Tristan, and Mac are the only ones interested in helping this man in need. I am loving everything about this series. The romance is hot. The relationship dynamics keep it interesting. Each of the three men has a certain amount of insecurities about their role in the relationship. Tristan’s need to feed his incubus nature is new and keeps pressure on the still new ménage relationship. The past coming to the present was an interesting twist that kept me curious until the very end. Tristan’s new role in the Underworld is something that I should have seen coming, yet still never imagined. There are plenty of twists and turns that keeps the pages turning and the momentum of the story going. Do not attempt to go into the Heavenly Sins series without reading them in order. This is definitely a series that must be read in order. If you have the time read all three in a row. I was warned that Between Good & Evil ended on a cliffhanger. I did not find this to be true. The story ends in a very appropriate place. Readers know that dire times are here for this very sexy trio. It is also known that this is just one more hurdle that they must get through to get the needed and deserved happily ever after. Now I’m off to read the next book to see how they get it.
Required to meet the terms of a demon’s bargain, Tristan, Machidiel, and Alastor accidently jeopardize an innocent human’s freedom and this is only one of the many tribulations the three lovers must undergo.
Between Good & Evil is the second book in the Heavenly Sins series. The multifaceted plot has a religious implication. Love, faith and trust are called into question. The characters are fascinating. Tristan was an honorable man who was deceptively turned into a demon. Although he is a subordinate of the underworld, Tristan still maintains his virtuous traits. Mac is an angel on a mission to save the souls of his two demon lovers Tristan and Alastor. Saving Alastor is Mac’s main challenge since Alastor was demonized for sins committed during his human life.
The noteworthy point in this story is the roles of the archangels. They are aware of the future, yet the archangels withhold vital information as well as guidance. In their quest for deliverance from evil, Tristan, Mac, and Alastor are left to struggle through one crisis after another. Their relationship seems doomed from the beginning. Even love develops into a concern for Mac. Nevertheless, Tristan’s love for Mac and Alastor remains steadfast all through the chaos.
L.M. Brown has created an enjoyable as well as an Impressive saga illustrating jealousy, revenge, hate along with heartbreaking turmoil. Between Good & Evil does not have a happy ending, however, the story continues in the upcoming book 3, Between Life & Death.
I suggest reading this series in sequence; the first book is Between Heaven & Hell.
While I did really like this book I had a hard time getting into this one until about half way through. I am not really sure why it just did not grab me at first. But once I reached that point I could not put it down. You still get a lot of Tristen, Mac and Alastor which I loved! But there was also a part of this book with something Alastor had down to Tristen in a past life, that I am not sure I really understood why he did it and why Tristen forgave him so easily. So that left me scratching my head confused. You get a lot of action and angst in this book, also the steam was of the charts hot in this book too between these three. Something happens with a human Tristen had picked up while he was training with Lawrence which I still am not a fan of that guy. So that causes a whole chain of events that leads to a ending that just wow! I did not see that coming at all.
So all together the beginning of this book I had a hard time getting into but once I got a little farther in the story grabbed me and I really loved the rest of this book!
I would recommend this book!
I received this book free in exchange for an honest review from Inked Rainbow Reads.
