This book is more emotional and real to me than I can describe. Six weeks after I married my husband, he had a motorcycle accident and he didn’t know who I was. He thought it was the same year he had his wisdom teeth removed. That had been years prior. Funny thing- the brain is! It has a way to protect itself. Anyway, although what happened to my husband’s brain was different than what happened to Jason’s brain in the book, the results are the same – Life is forever altered. I had to stop many times. My emotions were all over the place. I felt for the couple in this book struggling to figure out what to do and how to go on. It is hard and no matter what road you were on before, you need to take another road to continue on. As I write this, I have tears rolling down my cheeks with all my memories.

Enough of that. We start off with Jason waking up after an accident and being in a coma. He has lost the last 15 years of his life. He is a professional and hot baseball player. He has a broken family. He doesn’t remember his memories of both good and bad times. The doctor warns Megan, his fiancée, that she shouldn’t tell him his memories, especially of their engagement. If she does, he may feel overwhelmed and “He may feel trapped in a life he doesn’t remember or that he has to fulfill some role that he no longer knows or remembers” He also said “it has always been best to let the amnesiac either rediscover those lost memories or to simply forge new ones.” There was a lot more, but Megan took it well and decided to move out of their home and let him try to remember on his own. She didn’t tell him anything about their relationship other than that they were good friends. Ugh! Not me, I wanted to slap her for listening. OK, I wouldn’t and I didn’t tell my own husband everything but I sure let him know enough about us and let him work through it with my help. I hurt so badly for her because I knew personally what she was going through. I knew it was a book I was reading, but I took it personally.

Jason is lost and his memories of his early years were not good ones of his family or his stepbrother Tyler. Tyler is now good friends with Jason. Jason doesn’t know how to process that either. He doesn’t remember how they got to be friends when they grew up fighting. Jason is off baseball for now since he is in a cast and in PT. He is desperately trying to piece together his life. He feels comfortable around Megan and wants her to be there all the time.

Megan builds a wall around her heart because she doesn’t know what to do and is afraid he won’t love her.

Then they go through some rocky times before they get to an agreement to give Jason some answers about his life. Slowly, she lets Jason in and Jason is figuring out what he feels for Megan.

The ending almost threw me for a loop. (What does that really mean anyway?) I got nervous about what was happening in the end. I wasn’t sure what would happen and my heart was pounding waiting for the answer. But you will have to read it to see what they each do with their lives. Sometimes in life you have to make compromises. I love this book. But I think I am a little biased based on my own experience. I think anyone who likes to read about someone overcoming odds and figuring out what to do with their lives would enjoy it. I hope to read a story about Tyler next. I guess I will have to wait and see if there will be one.

Where exactly would you start if you're told that the person whom you love and meant the world to you could not recall anything about you?

Ouch.

The book started with a tragedy hits baseball superstar Jason Kincaid. A car accident caused him to lose his memory of 15 years. He couldn't recall anything, including reuniting with his high school sweetheart, Megan Williams. Their hopes and plans were suddenly lost along with his memories.

Megan, on the other hand, tries to grasp reality as she help Jason build up his life from pieces. To him, she is no longer his fiancée but a very good friend. The doctors advised her to allow Jason to regain his memory rather than feeding him bits and pieces that might overwhelm his brain.

While some memories are worth remembering, some are painful enough to remain buried and forgotten. Jason has clearly forgotten half of his life, and he's about to do some things for the first time, experience pain all over again, and perhaps fall in love with the same woman who had her heart for the third time.

Amnesia is a complicated disorder. You don't have a memory pill for you to have your memories back in a jiffy. The sad thing is - even therapy can't assure that you will remember everything you have forgotten.

I love most of the characters - especially Megan, Jason and of course, Tyler. Megan, among all characters had endured a lot. The love of her life suddenly could not recall her, and no matter how much she wanted to be in his arms, or how much she wanted to kiss him - she couldn't. So, she opted to take care of him instead, pretending to be his friend and supported him throughout his ordeal. But a secret does not remain secret for long. Oh heck, I wanted to know what happened between them, what caused their drift when they were young and how did they meet again and rekindled their love. And like Jason, I patiently waited until the right time came along or until someone opens the can of worms.

Tyler on the other hand is also amazing! He's Megan's best friend and Jason's ex-step brother. I think besides Jason, he's the only sane member of the family. I like him a lot because he's always there for the both his friends. He checks in them, pushed them subtly (or not) together and wants nothing but their happiness! (I wish he has his happy ending too).

It's true that sometimes, some things are best forgotten. But love? It doesn't forget. Jason may not knew who Megan was, but in his heart, he knew that she was someone special to him. First page and I was hooked to What Endures. It was sweet, painful, funny and refreshing. I was rooting for both characters and hoping that none of them give up. I enjoyed reading it and would be looking forward for Katie Lee's future works.

This book was an ARC given to me by the author.

I don’t normally read romance but I was ensnared from the beginning all the way to the end with the story, What Endures’, by Katie Lee. I love reading debut works from first time authors. What a new and refreshing voice. What an amazing storyteller! I expect great things from this author.

I’m a rather picky reader. Bad dialogue is what I hate the most but with this book, I could tell the characters controlled the story and the author was only the fingers that typed their tale. Katie let her muse flow. She allowed her characters to come to life. I love this book!

Jason has been involved in a serious car accident. When he awakens from his coma, he discovers he has no memory of the last fifteen years. His life as a major league baseball player is gone. His life as a super star and living the high life is gone. And, his world with the love of his life has faded away. He has no memory of Megan.

Megan has not left Jason’s side since his accident. Faithfully she stays only to discover the dreaded news. Jason’s physical injuries will take time but his memory might never come back. Carefully he is introduced back into his world in hopes to re-learn the past. To prevent any added post-traumatic stress, Megan’s and Jason’s relationship is put on hold. Megan moves out of their home together and starts a new life as Jason’s friend and not his finance.

As the months move on hints of the past come to life but not because of remembered memories. Can Jason’s and Megan’s love be found again or is it just too hard to love a woman he doesn’t know.

If you’re looking for the kind of book to get lost in, the kind you can’t put down, pick up Katie Lee’s book ‘What Endures’. I’m still thinking about this book weeks after reading it. It has stuck.

I’m a Katie fan!

What Endures is an amazing story. I could not stop reading this book. It was a train wreck heart wrenching that at times I cried and times I laughed but it was one of those emotional roller coasters that I wanted to be on because the story started out with a bang and ended with a bang.

Jason Kincaid has it all. He has his career as an outfielder for the Seattle Mariners. He has the girl of his dreams, his high school sweet heart so what more could he ask for? Nothing because everything is running smoothly until one fateful night he is in a car accident and his world is about to change and everyone else around him will be changed by this life altering accident. See because Jason has lost his memory of the last fifteen years and he has no recollection of who he was or who anyone around him is except his father and his brother.

This is horrible on so many levels because Jason remembers that he and his dad have a bad relationship and what he does remembers makes it hard for him to look at his father. As for his high school sweet heart Megan he doesn't remember her and he doesn't remember being engaged to her. Megan is crushed emotionally but she is willing to do whatever it takes to get Jason on the right path. So she leaves him and moves out of their home and hires nurses to be with him around the clock.

But the heart knows what it wants and Jason's heart wants Megan. Jason fires every nurse so Megan has no choice but to move back in with him and help him rebuild his life even if it means not being a part of it. Megan knows one thing and that thing is Jason loves baseball and always has so she concentrates on him getting back into the game. With Jason not remembering anything it is hard but Megan is a trooper and she keeps at it and helps him out. Is Jason going to remember Megan? Or will Jason move on and leave the love of his life pre accident?

For a debut novel, the author did a good job. I enjoyed this story of Jason and Megan, high school sweethearts. They have been through a lot in their relationship which we learn about over the course of the story, with glimpses into their past.

The book starts with Jason, a star Baseball player having suffered head inuries in a car crash. Megan is told he cannot remember the last 15 years of his life. Considering Jason is only 27 that means he can't remember why his parents divorced, he still thinks he hates his step brother but worse, he has no memory of Megan at all. The Dr's tell her she shouldn't overwhelm him with information so she decides not to tell him of their relationship but instead, she tells him they are just friends.

This was an enjoyable read apart from I felt the ending dragged out a bit too much and I would have liked an epilogue. I'm hoping the author will write Tyler's (Jason's step brother) story next. Maybe he will reconnect with his childhood sweetheart Lizzie?

A story about Jason losing his memory after an accident, losing his 15 years of memories and of Megan, his fiancé... About how they both dealt with it. I didn't get what Megan was really doing at first cause she seems to be avoiding Jason (irritating). Though it was explained along the way why she was doing that. I like Jason's character here, it was written in a way that you could definitely understand him. There were conversations that I find so long that I got a bit bored though, despite it being good... and I love that you get to read both POV...

Review to come on blog tour. 4 stars.

---

“If it was meant to be, it shouldn’t feel like a constant battle.”

There comes those rare moments in a reader’s reviewing life where one has to give a book 4+ stars even though the book actually wasn’t that great when it’s dissected and the parts analysed. It’s the whole idea of What Endures that made me really enjoy it and give it such a high rating. Usually, I take the different parts of what I think makes a good book and then take the aggregate to determine my rating, but in this case I had to ignore that precedent and take a holistic approach.

“The best advice I can give you is to look at this as a new start. A new beginning and go from there.”

What Endures begins with All-Star baseball player Jason Kincaid waking up from a coma after a car accident and his fiancé finding out that he’s forgotten the last 15 years of his life. Our female protagonist Megan Williams struggles from the very beginning with being near Jason – the doctor has explicitly told her not to tell Jason about his life/their life together as it won’t help him get his memories back, rather, it would confuse him. I could understand Megan’s battle with herself over this as she really wanted Jason to know what they are but on the other hand, she didn’t want to force his feelings or make him feel obligated to love her. She’s in love with him but she couldn’t act on any of those feelings and I felt her pain too at constantly needing to not only hide the feelings, but put distance between herself and Jason so that she wouldn’t accidentally let something slip. Frankly, it was exhausting. At others time I got completely frustrated with Megan and didn’t understand why she was withholding so much; I’d be holding my Kindle and raging at it “OMG JUST TELL HIM, HE DESERVES TO KNOW.” Character-wise, I really admired Megan’s devotion to Jason and she genuinely cared about helping him recover, not making him fall in love with her again. She isn’t completely selfless though and that’s what made her real, a major part of her hiding her feelings is so she doesn’t get hurt – she’s protecting herself too. But sometimes I thought other than that, there wasn’t much else to her character.

“And yet while the eyes may have been familiar, the look and emotion in them weren’t, and that jarred her back to the harsh reality.”

I was really surprised by Jason’s character and quite pleased – but at times a little sceptical. There were moments when I thought “this guy is too good to be true”. He was really sweet, slightly cheeky and overall a really nice guy O_O to the media he’s aloof and confident but in the presence of Megan he was totally… Normal. And that was where his character confused me. Jason’s lost 15 years of his memories so he has a mind-set of a 12/13-year-old kid but he can still act like a 27-year-old and has the body of one. Obviously there are gaps. I don’t know how someone with long-term memory loss acts so I couldn’t tell if it was normal that the mind of a young teen was attracted to a 26-year-old woman… that sounds so wrong I know but it was just this nagging thought in my mind. I brushed it aside and accepted that it was normal so yeah I really liked Jason. I also liked the way Lee showed his conflicting emotions about his messed up family. At those times, the confused little boy came out and I think that really highlighted his memory loss and attempts to fill in the gaps.

“I’m so sick of everyone acting like I’m some sort of idiot who can’t handle things! I’m fucking sick of having people give me half-truths or tell me I’m not ready to hear something.”

THANK YOU KATIE LEE FOR NO LOVE TRIANGLE. Seriously thank you *bows down*. I am so sick of nearly every book I’ve read having a love triangle of sorts. Some are believable and I do like them, but others are just pointless and included for the sake of having something to write about. The romance in What Endures is straight-forward and to the blurb (another tick for me) – I got what I expected, in a good way! There is attraction but no insta-love which I thought was an amazing feat on Lee’s part. Now you might be thinking, “wait, it’s not that hard to not write insta-love” and yes this is true in most books. But What Endures was definitely a special case – two people who are lovers, one in an accident and forgets his memories and the other still in love with him… and Jason is definitely attracted to Megan. To not insta-love THAT I thought was commendable. Megan manages to hide her feelings from Jason so well, creating this chemistry between the two; in a way it was like starting a love story from scratch.

“It was one of those deliciously slow and languid kisses. The kind to revel in. The kind to savour each touch. To taste each kiss. And to get lost in the feeling.”

There were no surprises in the plot, which can be seen as a good and bad thing – for me this was definitely a good thing. If you want those angsty, depressing NA novels, this isn’t for you. If you want a book that delivers what the blurb describes, and you like said blurb, then you should definitely get this. For the most part, the plot IS the romance between Megan and Jason with Jason trying to get his memories back while Megan tries to keep her feelings at bay. But there are some complications, and the relationship issues these two face can be heartbreaking – they’re essentially two people living in two different timelines. I thought the pace was perfect and I was speeding through this so quickly!

“Haven’t you ever thought that the best things are hard because they make you value them more?”

The writing style I wasn’t very sure of; at times I felt like I was being told a lot of things but I couldn’t really tell because at other times I really enjoyed the style. It had this dream-like quality that was accentuated by the beach setting and was really lovely. However, I thought that was sort of ruined by the time jumps. It would be a chapter, then the next chapter would jump a few months or a few weeks and I thought it was unnecessary to state this in the chapter headings. Time should flow smoothly not be staccato and stop and start at whatever intervals the author thinks just needs to be slotted in. Overall though, I thought Lee had a very quote-like style of writing which I absolutely love about books and this definitely amped it up for me – quote ALLLLLL the lines ;)

“The night air was cool and dry and carried the faintest scent of the Chesapeake Bay. He could hear the gentle lapping of the water against the shore, and there was a hypnotic musicality to it.”

Do you see what I mean when I say, if I took this apart the pieces don’t really line up to be a 4 star read? But… I DON’T CARE BECAUSE I LOVED THIS. This is the kind of book that puts a smile on my face (I also shed a few – no A LOT – of tears). The characters are sweet and thoughtful, no unnecessary angst, I get a love story in a gorgeous setting that is in the end relatable and I came out of this not only satisfied, but with heaps of lovely quotes. Lee is definitely an author to keep looking out for!

“Loving you was worth it. Worth everything.”

This is my first book by this author and the writing was excellent. Its written in the third person and is available through Kindle Unlimited. As you are reading you feel like this is the second book in a series, I actually stopped and went to double check that but you aren't. Its just the way its written.

Jason is a pro baseball player who wakes up from an accident with a broken leg and a head injury. He has lost 15 years of memories, basically his high school, college, pro career and girlfriend. Megan doesn't want to influence him by giving him to much information to process and doesn't tell him they are engaged. She moves out but he is drawn to her, needs her and still feels a connection to her.

This book spans several months as they both come to terms with his memory loss. Decisions about his baseball career, his very dysfunctional family and finding his way back to the love of his life. I highly recommend. 4.5 Stars

I thoroughly enjoyed reading What Endures. It was a heart-warming and emotional read that kept me engaged and wondering if they would stay together. This is a debut for Katie Lee and I have to say it was fantastically written. I cannot wait to read what Ms Lee offers up next.

After having a car accident, Jason wakes up in a hospital and has a big block in his memories from the past 15 years. Jason is an all-star outfielder for the Seattle Mariners and was in the prime of his life.

Megan is beside herself with worry, being at Jason’s bedside and talking to him when he wakes was overwhelming. He has forgotten their relationship and his love for her. He has lost the most crucial moments in their life and my never get them back. How can Megan continue being with Jason when he doesn’t even remember they were/are together? She doesn’t want Jason to feel obligated to care for her again, so she is keeping her distance.

With a long recovery and physical therapy plan ahead of them, Megan moves out of their home and hires around the clock nurses to ensure Jason is taken care of. She doesn’t want to put pressure on his memories in case they crash back into his head. But Megan is drawn to him and they have been friends since childhood; she cannot deny him anything.

When Jason keeps getting rid of his nurses, no other choice is given; Megan has to take matters into her own hands. Being with Jason is frustrating and painful; the memories that she holds and he doesn’t causes complications and heartache. They decide to work on being friends again and start slowly.

Baseball is all Jason has ever known and he doesn’t remember being in the major league, all he remembers is his teenage years and the relationship with his step-brother and father are not pleasant. Jason doesn’t know what he wants and both Jason and Megan have changed since the accident.

Can Jason return to baseball and find his rhythm again? Will he regain his memories? What about his relationship with his Father? Can Jason and Megan discover their love all over again and not make the same mistakes?

What Endures show what a couple can endure for love and learning continually those relationships are fragile and always changing. This was a great read with an unusual premise that really hit the mark.

Original review at Gabic Reads as part of the What Endures Blog Tour

What Endures is an adorable and sweet novel about Megan and Jason who are struggling with their relationship after Jason loses all his memories. At first, Megan doesn't tell Jason about their past: the marriage, divorce, and subsequent re-engagement. She tells Jason that they've been friends forever.

Megan wants to be with the man she loves, yet she doesn't want to force him into a relationship that he may not want anymore. Megan was very sweet and stubborn. She insisted on doing things her way and was a shrewd bargainer. I loved her. Seeing her struggle with Jason's memory loss gave a different perspective to this occurrence. Most books depicting characters with memory loss are from the victim's POV, so it was nice to get this outside view, to see how it affects everybody around the victim, too.

Jason is irritable at first. But, come on, who wouldn't be after they've lost fifteen years of their life. He just wants to gain all his memories back. But through it all, he has Megan. She's the rock in his chaotic life, where his parents are not. Jason distrusts his step-brother Trevor because his onlyy memories of him are of them fighting constantly. Jason also struggles with his career. does he really want to play baseball for the rest of his life? Was he ever really that dedicated to the sport or did he do it for his family?

Trevor is pretty awesome. I hope we get a story about him. He's there for Jason, even when Jason tries to push him away. He's very sweet and cares for both Megan and Jason and wants them both to be happy.

What Endures is a great book for those of you looking for a romantic story about everlasting love and love conquering all.

I read this book because I was told it was new adult – it isn’t. Megan may be 26 years old but she’s not at the stage in life that I associate with new adult heroines. She’s established in her career and whilst Jason may be her first true love – they’re not newly together. They’ve been married, have lived together for years and – prior to the accident – are on the way to happily ever after.

There were moments where I thought this book could somehow bring the adult characters together with their new adult selves – with flashbacks and memories of how life was like when they first got together and all the trials their relationship had to go through – but those memories were few and far between.

I like the idea behind this book. It’s very much like the movie The Vow (which I know was based on a memoir but I haven’t read it). True love derailed by amnesia. However I didn’t like the characters very much. Megan is a little too well liked but too willing to walk away from hard work. It didn’t make sense considering the back story that’s revealed throughout the novel. Jason is rather unlikable – I found nothing endearing about him in the slightest and I think therein lies my biggest problem. I need to want a couple to be together to like a romance novel. But Jason had no redeeming qualities so to be honest – I didn’t really care one way or another if they ended up together.

There are good things about this book. Tyler – one of the supporting characters – is entertaining and I’d be interesting in reading a spinoff about him and his own issues.

Overall, this book was a little predictable. The characters go around in circles and when they’re no doing that, they’re not making a lot of sense. But if you like the main characters of Megan and Jason, I can see that this would be a sweet romantic read.

Megan has been in love with the same person for years. He is her home, her safe place. No matter what happened Jason would always be there for her. They survived so many struggles and they were still together. Then one horrific event took everything they had. Now Megan has to be the strong one and learn how to stand by Jason as nothing more than a friend.

Jason can't remember anything. He see's flashes but he can't piece anything together in his mind. Everything seems wrong, especially his relationship with Megan. He knows she is hiding something, and he doesn't know if he can handle what she has to say. He might never get his memories back, but deep down he knows his heart will always remember. Is he ready to relive the pain or will he finally let the memories go?

I absolutely loved this book! I loved the sport, the characters, and the struggles within the book. This is so realistic and I adore the devotion the characters showed to one another. This book was perfect in every way! It definitely earned FIVE STARS!

This book both broke and warmed my heart at the same time. I mean, Megan wakes up one day to what can only be described as someone’s worst nightmare. The person you love doesn’t remember you! There are so many ups and downs that I wanted to cry most of the time, but there were plenty of heartwarming moments that made smile and lots of laughs.

This book strays from the common outline of a love story in that the characters aren’t just meeting. Well, I guess in a way they are, but there is so much history with this couple, and I got sucked in to not only what was happening in the present, but what had happened in their past. And boy do Megan and Jason have a past.

What Endures is truly a magnificent journey through the heartache of love lost in an unconventional way, and how finding your way back to that love is impossible. But just maybe, what endures will lead to a new love. It really is a fabulous read, and I strongly recommend it, especially if you are looking for a really good atypical love story.

Loved Loved Loved this book....but needless to say I was a sobbing mess by the end. First off I must say I loved how this storyline was set up and written!! I love a book that stays in the present tense....yes there was flashbacks (which I'm not a fan of) but they were short and actually made this book better. The characters I can't say enough about. Megan has been through so much and to have the love of your life not remember you....heartbreaking!! Jason...I can't imagine not being able to remember a chunk of your life and especially someone as close to him as Meg was. Both Megan & Jason were strong, emotional characters who had you falling in love with them from the beginning. This book had me from beginning to end...I just couldn't put it down because I needed to see how this book ended!!! I would highly recommend this book and I look forward to more books by Katie Lee:))

What Endures by Katie Lee is a story with a strong emotional impact.

In the first several chapters of her debut work, Ms. Lee relies heavily on dialogue. This treatment limits description and could leave the reader feeling that something is missing; however, Ms. Lee does such a great job of conveying the emotions of her characters that the reader feels the story from the beginning. Enough detail is given in later chapters that, as the story unfolds, the reader not only feels the story but sees it as well.

I usually go with a good mystery instead a romance when choosing recreational reading. The standard boy-meets-girl formula makes me lose interest quickly, but Ms. Lee throws the formula aside and tells a story that held my interest to the end.

I'm guilty of reading some reviews while i was reading this book! Fortunately, apart from the amnesia and part, everything is different; the separation, the characters itself, the "moral of the story". I'm aware that all movies(except "life of pi") that are adapted from books are flops and that might be why i hate the open-ending. That book, at least, gave me a satisfying ending, one that makes sense with the realization that he loves her despite that he doesn't know why and how. This book was smartly written with all the smart explanations, basketball, divorce...amazing!

Beautiful story about a love that just as the title suggests, truly "endures".

This was gut-wrenching for me reading it from her perspective - knowing the man you love does not even recognise you or remember any of the years you have had together, but surprisingly even moreso from his perspective - being so confused and frustrated over the countless years you can not remember.

Be prepared to shed a few tears is all i can say!

When I read the synopsis of this book I couldn't wait to get started. Sadly it didn't live up to my expectations. Jason and Megan didn't have any chemistry that I could see. Everything felt so forced. It was really hard to finish this book. It was so slow and seemed to drag on forever. I was more interested in learning what was going on with Tyler but there was no conclusion to his story sadly.

Right off the bat, I want to say that I don't consider this book to be New Adult. Both of the MCs are college graduates--he's a major league baseball player and she runs his foundation (after getting her MBA). There are a few high school and college flash backs that I guess could make this New Adult in theory, but characters acting like they're in college doesn't qualify a book for a certain genre. IMHO, this is just a book trying to ride the New Adult wave. But what do I know?

When major league baseball player Jason Kincaid wakes up from a month-long coma, he can't remember the last fifteen years of his life, including falling in love with (and marrying, divorcing, and rekindling) Megan Williams. The doctors tell her not to give him too many details about things he can't remember. Megan goes along with this because she doesn't want to feel like an obligation to Jason. As they try to sort through what they mean to each other, they have to come to terms with the fact that nothing will ever be the same again. The only thing that Jason is sure of is the fact that there's something about Megan and he doesn't want to be apart from her.
"The only time I feel like I'm not split in two is with you. When I'm with you, it's easy to forget I lost anything at all."

Realizing nothing will ever be the same, Jason makes the decision to move forward with his life.
"I'm sick of it. Sick of being frustrated. Sick of this dark, depressing feeling that comes over me at times. sick of wondering and waiting. I'm sick of waiting, Megan."

"Waiting?"

He nodded. "For my memories to come back." He drew in a deep breath. "So I'm gonna do something about it. I'm gonna get those memories back."

..."Jason, what if you can't remember?"

"Then I won't be any worse off than I am now," he said softly. "I've lost 15 years. I'm not about to lose another second. So starting right now, I'm on a quest. I'm gonna get my life back. And since my life was evidently with you before the accident happened, that's where I'm going to start."

I liked this story and thought the plot was pretty original. How would you feel if the person you'd loved since you were sixteen years old woke up and didn't remember you?
I just...I don't understand how he can remember his childhood but not..." Again she faltered. She didn't want to sound selfish, but the question remained. How could he not remember her? Them?

Megan and Jason's history is revealed to us in bits and pieces of their lives through flashbacks and memories, and I really enjoyed that. Overall, I liked the characters, too, especially Jason, in spite of him being a brat sometimes. He was a stand-up guy.
"I'm not gonna pretend that I haven't wanted to kiss you. I'm attracted to you. I think that's pretty clear, but we should take it a little slower. I don't want to jump into anything because I don't want to miss out on anything else."

His step-brother (and Megan's BFF), Tyler, was pretty awesome, and I feel like Lee left the door open for a companion book about him.

What didn't I like? While I understand that the doctors advised Megan against telling Jason about their past, I had a real problem with her basically lying to him.
"If I asked you something, would you tell me the truth?"

"Of course!" She sounded indignant that he was implying otherwise. "I've never lied to you, Jason."

"Right," he said, looking at her challengingly. "Then answer this question for me. What exactly was our relationship?"

"We were friends. We are friends." Her answer was too nice, too neat. As if she were reciting a pre-written script.

"That's it?" he challenged. "Nothing else? At no point were we more than friends?" There was that telltale pause from her. "Yes or no? It's a pretty straightforward question."

She also makes some decisions that I just didn't understand and at times she came off as a selfish brat to me. With that being said, I didn't totally hate her and want to give her the benefit of the doubt since she suffered through the traumatic experience of almost losing the love of her life and then not having him remember her.

This book contained a lot of repetition and some unorganized plot points that I believe a good editor would have caught. The ending was pretty abrupt and there were definitely some things that were left too open-ended for me.

With its original plot and likable characters who never forget how much they mean to each other, What Endures is a story that reminds us to try to make the best with what life throws our way.

I honestly don't know what I would do if the love of my life forgot about me. I think this is one of those situations in which you tell yourself that if it ever happened you would act a certain way and then it happens and you act a completely different way.

First of we have our couple Megan and Jason. The book begins and pretty quickly you learn that Jason has been in an accident and has lost his memory. He still remembers some things but they are only memories of his childhood so Megan, his job as a baseball player and practically all his life is completely forgotten. Pretty tragic I know.

While reading this book you sort of become Jason. You are desperate to find out about this couple past. Their rights and wrongs. I was intrigued and wanted to know about Jason's past with Megan and how it was going to influence their future or if they will have a future at all. So I really enjoyed all the memories and flashback scenes. This book is in third person POV and I sometimes find it hard to connect with the characters when the book is told this way but I think the author did a great job bringing Megan and Jason's voices to life so that the reader could understand what they were feeling.

Megan was so difficult sometimes! I mean don't get me wrong I still liked her and I understood where she was coming from but god! I mean she obviously loves Jason and wants their life together back but helloooo let him get to know you and stop thinking about yourself. I think that Megan sometimes needed to remind herself that Jason was going through a hard time too. I think she's the only thing I had a hard time with while reading.

Omg Tyler. I wanted to grab Tyler and kiss him senseless. He had some great scenes in the book. And he always seemed to force some sense into Megan which she so needed.

Great romance with different chances at true love. I learned from this book that you can't never forget love. Never. Never give up on the person you love. You will be rooting for Megan and Jason from page one!

(rating: 3.5)Megan and Jason are one of those couples who simply belong together. Her brother-in-law Tyler tells her this in a discussion. But sometimes life can throw curve balls and what this couple is tossed has Megan wondering exactly how much their love can endure. After Jason is involved in a horrible car accident and loses fifteen years of his memories--high school, college, his professional baseball career with the Seattle Mariners, his marriage to Megan--all gone, Megan must decide what is best to help him recover, even if it means sacrificing her own happiness.

Told in both viewpoints, we see what each person goes through. Megan moves out, Jason returns to heal, alone. Even with missing memories, his personality shines through. Instead of visiting nurses, he wants Megan to stay and help. When they agree to have Tyler, his stepbrother, move in instead, Jason feels jealousy towards Tyler, thinking his sibling may have a past with Megan. It's little touches like this which provide evidence of the true man under the confusion and pain. Megan is stoic, moving out and keeping mum about their real relationship as Jason's doctor suggested. She is a selfless woman and does what is best for her husband, even while she suffers in silence.

What Endures is a moving story about the rigors of life and love. I couldn't imagine going through what this couple did. Even though he may not remember what Megan is to him, Jason does feel something for her. Watching the man she loves grapple with trying to remember the past so he can figure out his future is trying on Megan and I rooted for them to come together somehow. Both are likable characters and their dialogue is realistic. At times the story relies too heavily on the dialogue to tell us things I would have preferred shown through other conventions. Towards the end, the pace slowed down from Megan and Jason's heavy inner thoughts and I would have liked a touch more romance.

All in all, What Endures is a fast, satisfying read. The author tells the trying tale of what one couple's love must endure and doesn't neatly tie everything together. I enjoyed Megan and Jason's story and discovered a new author to keep out for. (http://www.readergirlsblog.com/2013/0...)

Jason and Megan have never had an easy relationship. It seems like something or someone is always trying to break them apart. When they finally seem to be in a good place Jason loses most of his memory, including the entire time he has known Megan, in a car accident. Both Megan and Jason are devastated. Jason can't remember this girl he feels such a strong bond with and Megan remembers everything. My heart just broke for both of them. I can't imagine my husband losing every memory he has of our lives together while still feeling and remembering it all. Megan tries to protect herself by not getting too close, while at the same time being there to take care of the love of her life. What if Jason never remembers her? What if he never loves her? What if this new Jason falls in love with someone else?

When things start to get too hard, Megan questions how they could have ever been meant to be. Their relationship is always a struggle. She feels like it is a sign that they are not supposed to be with each other.

"... it only hurts less when you feel less."

It would be so much easier to love someone else. But, is easy really worth it without the true love and fiery passion she had with Jason.

Jason is dealing with a lot in addition to his feelings with Megan. He can't remember where his relationships with is family members and friends stand or anything about his baseball career. He is not sure if he can or even wants to play baseball again.

This story takes you through the present and flashes back to the past. You learn all about Jason and Megan's past ups and downs as well as their current struggles. They have made it through a LOT, but can love endure this? Will they be able to love one another when Megan is haunted by the memories of their relationship that Jason can't even remember?

I enjoyed this book. Jason and Megan were very loveable characters. Even without his memory and all that he is dealing with, Jason is very charming and easy to fall in love with. For me it was a little anti-climatic and lacked the passion I want to feel in a love story. There was no sizzle, no tears, no grand emotion. It is just a sweet, easy read!

Jason and Megan takes the meaning of a complicated relationship into another level. The trials these two faced – It was mind-blowing and definitely not easy to take. If its not something its someone who is trying to break these two apart. They say that love is sweeter the second time around, but on Jason and Megan’s case it was sweeter the third time around.

Car Accident. Memory Loss.

Now before you jump into conclusions on how cliche the story line might seem let me tell you that for several books that I have read that also goes along this plot line, What Endures is by far the most convincing to me.

Jason lost 15 years of his memories. It was not that easy. Aside from the obvious fact that he lost fifteen years of his life, he’s struggling with his family, his baseball career and his feelings with Megan.I like the way their story was written. Megan is the teller of the story but all through it I feel like I was in Jason shoe’s because I was also waiting for what will happen next.

The story takes us to the rough present and beautiful and sweet past. I don’t know why but the way the story was told grabbed me and I know I will be so into it. There is a process with Jason and Megan’s story – there is history, the first chance, second chance and the third. Add up to the fact that the author did a great job in conveying the memory loss part of Jason. Also, didn’t let Jason get his memory back because that’s the case of stories that I’ve read, they all regain their memories and it seems too unrealisticDespite losing his memory, Jason was charming and so much easy to like.

Megan and Jason and also Tyler are lovable characters. Its easy to get through their conversations and even the tough ones. There is healing on both Jase and Megan’s side.

What Endures was a sweet and easy read. Will definitely look forward to other works of this author.

I liked the movie The Vow, which featured Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum. Rachel’s character had amnesia thanks to a car accident and she didn’t remember the love of her life, her husband, played by Channing. I found the concept to be very intriguing and the movie was well-crafted, however, I didn’t connect with it on the level I was hoping for. Therefore, I had big hopes for What Endures. Unfortunately, not all of my hopes were satisfied.

Jason was a great character and I liked him quite a bit. It was more Megan whom I had problems with. See, she was the one who had to endure the pain of not having her fiancé know who she was. She was the martyr type--always suffering, but never showing it. Her inner pain did nothing to me though, because she was so selfless that it became.. honestly a bit irritating for me to read. I didn't connect with either of these characters the way I was expecting so I honestly felt very little emotion regarding their situation.

As for the secondary cast, Jason's half-brother Tyler was a great one and I really enjoyed the scenes he was in. However, the rest of them didn't really do it for me. Also, what in the world were these underlined words and sentences? OH MY!!! I felt like someone was screaming them at me. That is why cursive is invented, my friends. I just didn't get why they had to be underlined. It bothered me so much that I wanted to shut the book and stop reading alltogether. I didn't appreciate this by any means.

All in all, I hope that if you give this one a try, you'll enjoy it quite a bit more than I did. Unfortunately, it was more of a miss than a hit for me.

(View this review on My Library in the Making.)

I have to admit, I got interested in What Endures because of how much it sounded like The Vow, one of the not-so-few movies that made me bawl like a baby. This book didn't succeed in making me do that, but it still tugged on a few heartstrings.

The main characters were okay for the most part. At first, I wanted to shake Megan so hard because she was obviously taking the easy way out by avoiding rekindling her relationship with Jason, even when he, unknowingly, wanted to do that same. Eventually, I understood what she was doing and just pitied her, but not as much as I pitied Jason. He was the golden boy (well, man, really, as he was 27) who had suddenly lost everything. His struggle was painful to witness, even for a mere onlooker like me.

Perhaps that's my biggest issue with this book: not how the characters irritated me with their running around in circles, but how I never felt a connection with them. They felt distant the whole time, and what kept me reading was only my curiosity at how their story would play out. Also, I'd just like to point out that "starting anew" would have been easier had they let each other finish their sentences. Seriously.

The last 20% of this book was too clogged up with a mixture of internal monologues and lengthy conversations, and soon enough I just wished for Megan and Jason to go straight to the point and get it all over with. But despite my problems with their way of handling things, I did genuinely root for them to be together, so What Endures clearly did something right.

MY FAVORITE PART was Jason's birthday :3

“...see the thing about memories? They’re a double-edged sword. You get the good but there’s also the bad. And you can’t decide which memories you get to keep and which ones you don’t. You get it all.”

What Endures was is such an awesome read about losing love and finding it again. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.

All Star outfielder Jason Kincaid has just woken from being in a coma after an accident and now 15yrs of his life he cannot remember. For the moment everyone is treating him with kid gloves and he can not stand it.

Megan has stood by Jason’s bedside until the moment he opened his eyes. She’s understandably devastated that he doesn't know who she is. Unsure if she should reveal their past, afraid the “new him” wouldn't love her that same.

What would you do if the one person that you loved can no longer remember you? The places you've been? The things you've been through? That’s currently Megan Williams life. On the advice of her fiance's doctors she doesn't tell Jason about them.

I enjoyed the journey of Jason and Megan it was sweet and heartbreaking at the same time. In hopes to not having her heart broken Megan keeps her distant from Jason which doesn't work. It actually draws him closer to her.

What Endures doesn't have a clear cut happy ending, but it does give some hope that anything is possible.

**Huge thanks to the author for providing me with an arc copy in exchange for my honest opinion**

This book centers around Jason and his fiance, Megan. Jason, a major league baseball player, has been in a horrible car accident that left him unable to remember the last fifteen years of his life - unable to remember anything about his romance with Megan.

On recommendation from Jason's doctors, Megan moves out of their house and hides their relationship from him - until he finds out the truth in maybe the worst possible way. From this point on, Megan and Jason endure the rocky ups and downs of an on-again-off-again relationship, complicated by Megan's memories of the past and Jason's constant feelings of loss and confusion. Through it all, their love for each other is obvious and their willingness to sacrifice for each other is inspiring.

Although this book is (like most others) peppered with errors, typos, and grammatical mishaps, I couldn't help but fall in love with Jason and Megan. This story made me laugh, it made me cry, and it was an undeniable pleasure to read. In the end, even though this book could use a good deal of extra polishing, it's clear to me that Katie Lee is a great storyteller with a true heart for inspiring romance. 'What Endures' will be sticking around on my Kindle (which is a rare accomplishment), and I already can't wait to read it again.

This one is a solid five stars, and if I could give it more, I would.
