I had a lot of issues with this book, and they all boil down to the same problem: the lack of plot and character development. For me, this was such a critical issue that I was left with more questions when I finished the book than I had understanding of what I had just finished reading. It’s frustrating because I’m not completely certain what the whole story was with regards to some of the key plot arcs, and for that reason, I don’t feel comfortable enough to summarize the story with quotes like I normally do at the start of a review.

A major problem for me was that I never really developed any connection to or empathy for the heroine, Olivia, and this is the direct result of significant character development issues. I never really “got” her, I never fully understood what exactly she was running from, what happened during the catalytic event that had her moving “in the middle of the night” to escape her ex-boyfriend of five years, Braden. What exactly was she escaping? Aside from a few ambiguous statements about her treatment and neglect during that relationship, which began while she was still in high school and is the one of the two underlying sources of all of her issues, the readers don’t get more than a brief, cursory glimpse into it. We don’t get a clear and decisive explanation of exactly what happened during this traumatic incident and there was no real, in-depth delving into that relationship to give the reader a better understanding of the supposed five years of abuse and neglect that she repeatedly said she experienced at that boy’s hands. Whatever it was, though, it was enough to set her running from him, moving to another city (only two hours away, but whatever), and it left her with panic attacks and nightmares.

A lot of concern was repeatedly expressed about how Braden could have tracked her down in a city the size of New Orleans on the night of her birthday to the exact club where they were celebrating. It was eluded to more than once that they were “missing something,” especially when it came to his ability to find her on that particular night, and it left the reader, or at least this reader, thinking that there may have been a potential tip off from someone close to Olivia. Instead a ridiculously implausible, impossible scenario was offered offhandedly near the end of the story as to how he found her, and I vocally reacted, startling my husband as I yelled out “Oh come on!” when it was so casually thrown out there as an explanation. This was something that bothered Kyle for most of the book, it lead me to believe that it would be some sort of twist or betrayal, and I was expecting a big reveal, like one of her friends was feeding information about her to Braden. Instead it was a wasted opportunity, and considering that this was one of the few plot threads that actually had a decisive conclusion, albeit a flimsy one, I was left disappointed.

Then there was the whole arc concerning Olivia’s brother, Tyler, and the intimation that he had some role in all of this, whatever “this” was. He was apparently Braden’s best friend, and there were some veiled references about him potentially being involved in Braden’s business. Inexplicably, he started blowing her off on the few occasions she was actually able to reach him, and then he just stopped responding to her calls and emails at all, even going a step further by changing his email address and phone number. Why? Olivia and Kyle even made this big, dramatic trip to LA to confront him. What we got out of Tyler was another rickety reason for all this massive drama as he’s apparently just “keeping it on the DL” in LA. Huh? His sister was attacked by her abusive, stalking ex and hospitalized as a result, and he can’t return a single phone call? It’s stated that he “turned” on Braden, and that detail is furthered by the information that he’s moved nine times within Los Angeles in the short time that he’s been out there. Instead of backing up that detail by making him difficult to not only reach but to actually locate, the readers were expected to just believe that he’s in hiding while he still goes to work everyday at a PR firm that Olivia used good old Google to quickly locate. Why bother hiding at all? She shows up to his office, unannounced, and after some awkward posturing, her big confrontation was instead an enormous flop for the readers as the meat of their conversation happened out of sight in the hotel’s bar, and the readers weren’t privy to it, given instead a scene of Kyle waiting and worrying while watching TV in the hotel room. Seriously?

Olivia has stated that she never had anyone who “took care” of her before, and it was important to her that she stand on her own. I can appreciate this young woman’s desire to stand on her own two feet. But her reactions each time poor Kyle or his incredibly generous parents did something kind and thoughtful for her were so over the top that they were downright rude and bordered on obnoxious, and as a result of these confusing reactions, she came off as immature, unappreciative, ungrateful and wholly ungracious. Why would a simple gift spark such a reaction? Why would a dinner out – a date with her boyfriend for crying out loud – garner such a strong reaction? I may have a general idea, but I definitely didn’t get the full motivation behind such insulting reactions to normal boyfriend behavior, and instead of building my sympathy towards this character, it stoked a strong dislike of her. Her constant panicking, her standoffish and just plain rude behavior, and all this seemingly unnecessary, self-created drama annoyed the heck out of me. As a result, all of these issues, concerns and lingering questions prevented me from embracing this character, from even liking her, and I just could not connect with her or her story.

I really did like the hero, Kyle, though, but his character wasn’t fully developed either. He was injured in what was apparently a dirty and deliberate late hit during a college baseball game that effectively ended the promising professional baseball career that lay ahead for him. But it was implied that there was more to it than just an unsportsmanlike late hit and that something awful happened after the hit, but we never learned exactly what that was. The implication was that there was some sort of history between Kyle and the opposing player responsible for his injury and that jealousy is a possible reason behind it. But, the hit was never fully detailed beyond impact, that supposed history between the two of them wasn’t elaborated upon, and I was left feeling like I was missing a key piece of Kyle’s story, which was very frustrating for me as Kyle and his story was one of the main reasons I kept reading this story.

I could go on. There were just too many holes in the plot and too many missing pieces of these characters’ histories that made it too difficult for me to connect with this story. I was left frustrated and confused when I finished. The saving grace for me, and why I’m comfortable with a 3 smooch rating, is that the author’s writing style is good, and it’s obvious that she has talent. Had these plot points and characters been fully fleshed out, I’d have enjoyed this story. Even lacking in details as it was, I still kept turning the pages, hoping for clarification, and that in itself is an indication of interest in the story and characters on my part. The author and this series both have a lot of potential. I think with some more experience, the right support to nurture her talent, and perhaps a more seasoned group of beta readers asking these probing questions during the writing process as well as an editor who demands the same, and she’ll put out some really great books in the future. I can see the promise in Sophie Lira’s writing abilities and her natural talent. Ultimately, though, Safe With You just didn’t come together cohesively for me, and it gets 3 smooches.

Gifted for an honest review.

I enjoyed this book. Olivia was skittish at the beginning and understandably so but it did take a while to get to what happened to her and I felt this was not completely explained, but the reader can make assumptions based on what you are told. It was great to see the trust build between Olivia and Kyle and for her real personality to shine through.
Loved Kyle and Cam (he could do with a book for himself!). There was an element of suspense/mystery, but all round an enjoyable story.

I’m not a huge New Adult reader. The books from the genre that I have read, I’ve loved but it’s not my go to genre by any means. I’m glad that I picked up Safe With You, because I did definitely enjoy it.

I love Kyle. I really love Kyle. I thought he was a really great guy. There were definitely some moments that I was a bit ‘meh’ about, but all in all I really liked him. I liked Olivia too. She was an interesting character to read about, but I wish we’d gotten to hear more about her history. We got to see a bit of her life beforehand, but I wish parts of it had been clearer—there was a lot you had to guess at.

This is something I never thought I’d say, but I wish we’d gotten to see more of the baseball. I’m not a huge sports fan, but lately I’ve just been wanting a sports romance. I liked that it was something Olivia was into as well—like she actually plays it as well as Kyle and I just loved those moments. I mean, I loved almost every Kyle/Olivia moment but those were extra cute.

I did really enjoy their relationship, but at times it felt a little too quick. I loved how it started off, and it seemed like it was going to be a kind of slow-burn love, but then it just became really intense very quickly. It didn’t affect how I felt about the book too much, but I am definitely more of a fan of the slow-burn relationship.

I was a little disappointed with how quickly things were resolved. It all felt a little too convenient. As much as I was happy with the ending, I just wished we’d had a little more build up to that moment. This isn’t anything unique to this book though, I find that most contemporaries focus on the romance and everything else kind of gets pushed back. I just thought that this was such an interesting and intense situation that more time could have been given to it.

All in all, I would absolutely recommend Safe With You to any fans of the New Adult genre, or anyone that wants to try something NA for the first time.

Thanks to Sophie Lira for sending me a copy of her book.

This was a very ambitious novel. Lira’s grasp of her plotting and characters is impressive. Too many times in romance novels, the heroine’s traumatic past is used as a plot device, something for the love interest to “fix” or “rescue” the woman from, stripping the woman of any autonomy . But Olivia’s trauma and vulnerability is perfectly balanced with her genuine desire to move past it and reclaim her life. Her relationship with Kyle doesn’t automatically make everything better, but rather it’s used to explore how she’s slowly rebuilding her trust in others.

The plan was to read a little each evening this coming week. That's not going to happen, as I finished it less than 24 hours! Couldn't bring myself to put it down once I started! Fantastic read and a great weekend retreat for me. I loved the characters, especially Kyle, Olivia, and Cam.

Baseball is one of my absolute great loves (right up there with food and books), so when I was given the chance to read an early copy of Safe With You, author Sophie Lira's debut novel about a rehabbing baseball player and a yoga instructor, I was definitely intrigued! I dove in, expecting to read something fun and sporty, but I was happily surprised to find that there's so much more to Kyle and Olivia's story. It had many of the things that I love about the new adult genre..the personality and the humor, and a heartfelt journey full of emotional twists!

After finally leaving her abusive ex-boyfriend, Olivia Simon is trying to move on with her life in a new city, with a new job, around new people. My heart ached for the shell of a girl she'd been reduced to. Afraid to go out. Reluctant to socialize. Always second-guessing people's motives. She's barely getting by, taking life day by day. Still, she pushes on. Through Olivia, the author sheds some light on the lingering effects of being in a toxic relationship for so long, but the part that I admired most was that she also showed Olivia's determination to move forward and showed how this once battered girl was willing to finally make her life hers again.

In a lot of ways, Olivia's journey toward healing is jumpstarted when she meets Kyle Avery. (And what a cute first meeting it was!) I'll admit that I was initially curious about Kyle because I had read the book's blurb and...well...baseball. But the deeper I got into the story, I loved getting to know the version of Kyle away from the sport. He's Captain America-level handsome and extremely talented *dreamy sigh*, but he's also this incredibly well-mannered, tattooed Southern gentleman! ;) He's everything Olivia's never had but has always needed. He shows her what it feels like to be truly cherished and protected. The genuine care and affection act like a salve to so many of Olivia's open wounds, felt even in the little things...like buying her flowers, giving her forehead kisses, and just holding her. I loved all of the precious, tender moments in this book! *heart eyes* There are also other elements in Kyle's life that really emphasize everything Olivia's been deprived of and what he can now give her. Even though it felt a little too perfect and fluffy at times, Kyle shows Olivia that she deserves and is capable of having a happy and comfortable life.

For Kyle and Olivia, 'starting over' is a common theme. They both have a past that they're trying to get away from--the physical and emotional pain--and I really liked how their relationship was able to develop. (There is a GREAT softball scene that had me smiling and laughing!) Then, not only was Kyle sweet and flirty and charming, he actually says some very important things to Olivia throughout the book that I think young girls in her situation absolutely need to hear. One critical moment, for example: "Stop apologizing, Olivia. You haven't done anything wrong." It was those kinds of moments that really made me believe in this couple.

It was a slow burn, as they gradually opened up to each other and began to trust. Again, my heart absolutely ached for Olivia. I hated what she went through and her disgusting ex. But also, my heart ached for Kyle. As a San Francisco Giants fan, I sympathized with the life-altering injury he was dealing with. I actually flashed back to Buster Posey's injury in 2011. The Giants' superstar player was out for the season after a nasty collision at home plate, and fans everywhere were DEVASTATED. In Kyle's situation, though, the effects of his injury were even worse. So as he coaxed Olivia out of her shell, I was happy to see him find peace again after all of the damage done. Just like watching Olivia's walls come down, I really liked watching Kyle build his life back up.

The supporting cast was also a wonderful standout in this book. I loved the friendships! Kyle and his best friend Cam?? I was SO DOWN for that bromance. Aubrey, Olivia's friend and co-worker? She made me laugh constantly. Helena, their boss, was also a wise, mature figure. Even Kyle's parents factored into the story. They were all shining beacons of love and unwaivering support. They were kind, patient, and understanding. After everything that Kyle and Olivia went through individually, then what they endure together, this kind of supporting cast is exactly what they needed. THIS is the kind of tribe you need in your life! One that will rally around you and help you get back up when you're down!

Also, I feel like Cameron Callisthenes Tavares deserves his own honorable mention. *praise hands* Cam has been Kyle's best friend since they were kids, and he's basically Kyle's Brazilian, fiercely loyal, personal bodyguard. :P I ADORED CAM. I left ridiculous fangirly Kindle notes for every Cam scene ever. He nearly stole the whole damn show! (Dear Sophie, I will now be constantly begging for Cam's book from this day forward...)

However, without getting too spoilery, I do want to mention a couple of my "cons". Towards the end, there were particular actions/decisions that I didn't necessarily agree with. There were times when I thought, personally, I'd handle a situation differently. Also, there were conflicts in the book that I think wrapped up in a rather convenient fashion, and I wished they had been fleshed out a bit better. Those details may have kept the book from being absolutely perfect for me, but ultimately, the pros still outweighed the cons. I still enjoyed the writing and the overall story!

In the end, what mattered most was that I truly saw how much Kyle and Olivia had changed from the beginning to the end, how far they'd come. Olivia brought meaning to Kyle's life again, after his dreams of professional baseball were shattered, and he realizes there's still a lot for him to live for and to be happy about. Kyle finally makes Olivia feel safe and cherished. I got to see a scared, battered girl learn to stand up for herself and become independent. Even when it would be all too easy to depend on Kyle, she always wanted to stand on her own two feet.

Kyle and Olivia's story was about overcoming past hurts and moving forward. About finding strength and happiness again. I enjoyed getting to know these characters. The fears, the insecurities. The hope, the determination. Sophie created an entire cast that I adored, and she gave each character a great voice. At their core, they felt so very real. Although there's pain and struggle in this book, there is also so much love and joy to be found in these pages. A great read about starting over and starting something new!

PS. I'm definitely going to need Cam's book now. Did I mention that yet...;)

“Safe with you” is the book you have to read if you love romantic love stories. It's sweet, cozy and dreamy. I liked the idea of the guy that desires to protect the girl not just to win her over. I liked the adult relationship between them and the family that they built including their friends in the equations. I loved Kyle's loving and supporting family that “adopted” Olivia as part of them and I loved the peculiar bond that Kyle had with his grandmother. I loved the relationship between Olivia and her coworker and the one that she had with June, Kyle's mother.
I gave this book three stars on five because I would have liked to know more about the past of the characters, both of them and even their friends. I would have liked to know more about Olivia's brother and why he abandoned her (the reason why he decided to leave her without an explanation, was he protecting her from her ex-boyfriend? Or was it just a selfish gesture to save his life?), also more about Natasha and her childhood with Olivia. I would have liked to know how Cam saved Kyle.
All this story is a consequence about what happened to the main characters before they met, I'd have loved to know more about this part, it wasn't enough for me to hear them to say “I'm like that because something bad happened to me”. Probably I would have used flashbacks to explain their past because I don't like when someone describe his emotion directly, but this is just my personal opinion, something that I don't like but other people probably love (Someone hates flashbacks because they interrupts the story, it's just a matter of taste).
In the end I liked this book, it was a lovely way to pass some hours with a dreamy love story, I would probably suggested it to a friend that love this type of novel.

I received this book in return for my honest review.

This book follows Olivia who is trying to escape her difficult and abusive ex in New Orleans. I found Olivia a difficult character to connect with, I can't really put my finger on the reason for this, as I certainly enjoyed Kyle and especially Cam's characters.

Safe in you's plot line was 'busy' at times with a lot going on and at times it felt rushed to me, I often found myself having to reread certain parts to get a handle on what was going on, did we ever find out how Braden found Olivia?

Safe in you was a good book, it just didn't click with me, which I take responsibility for. It has all the essentials, and did keep me interested enough to finish it rather quickly.

Safe With You is the debut novel of Sophia Lira and she does a good job. First let me say I love New Orleans. Every time I visit I have a good time and I love stories that take place in this city. It is a very interesting place and an interesting backdrop for a tale.

Safe With You is the story of a young woman, Olivia Simon, on the run and hiding from an abusive ex. The experience makes her cautious of people, especially men. She decides to start over in New Orleans working as a yoga instructor, she is rebuilding her life and finding her place.

Kyle Avery has a past himself. His whole life before “the injury” is working toward a career in major league baseball. His challenge is trying to live with the knowledge that his injury didn’t come from playing the game but an attack by a jealous rival. He doesn’t have a reason to move on until he meets Oliva. She sparks a flame in his heart.

There are some positives and negatives that I found as reading.

On the plus side, I love Kyle Avery. He is a good strong hero. I like his loving, loyal, and tenacious personality. He instills loyalty in his friends too. He works to get Olivia to trust him and wears her down bit by bit. He is learning how to move on with his life and find new focus that isn’t baseball.
Olivia is a good character too but I find it harder to connect with her than Kyle. Part of the problem is so much of Olivia’s past is implied but not really given the attention it needs for the reader to feel what she feels.

The support characters are very interesting and add a lot to the story. I really like characters who are good friends. Cam takes on a great deal for Kyle and sometimes feels his pain as much as Kyle does himself. Helena is a good boss and friend to Olivia. I like the strength of this character. I like that the friends aren’t perfect and their human flaws come through too.

My only criticism is the huge gaps in understanding because of unanswered. Like I said there is a lot of implied, I understand that Olivia is afraid of her ex but what really happened? Why is she so certain that he is going to track her down and ruin her life? I can imagine a scenario but I need to hear, and feel, these events from the characters’ perspective.

What is the deal with Olivia’s brother, Braden? I don’t get his purpose. Does he really care about his sister or is he hiding from her to take his friend’s side in their arguments? By the end I feel like what did I glean from Braden? He didn’t really advance the story and sometimes I feel like he was thrown in for some more angst and then forgotten.

There are some other holes like Kyle’s rival. It is never explained why he is so jealous and why he took that jealousy to such an extreme.

Sophia Lira is a good writer. The criticism is one that I expect from a new author who is getting her team together. As time goes on she will have a group who will keep track of timelines, loss threads, etc. I am looking forward to seeing more from her in the future.

Oliva knows that. Her brother has been keeping secrets from her for years, and now he doesn’t keep in contact with her. Oliva’s ex-boyfriend kept secrets all the time, and now she is suffering from the consequences. Moving far away from an abusive, manipulating relationship can be difficult enough; but, there is no possible timeline for trying to move on emotionally from the damage said relationship caused. New Orleans was a bright spot and that is what she thought it would be. A fresh new start, where she knew no one. Oliva attempts to pick up the pieces from her fallen life. She has no parents, no family, no money, and is all alone. She is in hiding. Her goal, to not allow her ex to find her and to somehow overcome the mental and emotional scars that are branded on her.

Kyle came from a privileged life. Grew up with loving parents and with a skills many young men would covet to obtain. Baseball was easy to him. He loved playing the game. It was engraved into his soul, but when his leg shattered so did his future. One accident took everything he thought he needed in life away. Now he is at a new school, trying to hide from the lime light and prying eyes. He thought he was getting better. It wasn’t until he meet the most striking beauty in line for some good old southern creole that he realized what was missing in his life the whole time.

Kyle and Oliva’s meeting is so awesome. He is her knight in shining armor, but at the same time she is timid and fearful of what she does not know about him. She has a difficult time trusting any male figure. You feel her pain and sadness. Her fear and anxiety. I think the author demonstrated a very real picture of how terrifying it can be for a young woman who is petrified to live. Kyle was the exact person she needed, when she need someone so desperately.

Oh Kyle. Our deep and mysterious Kyle. We are unaware at times was exactly happened after his accident, but we come to learn of the scars. He is required to wear a knee brace and suffers from survivor pain at times. Men have a vise, and his was baseball. When that was taken away from him, he literally lost it. His best friend, Cam (who you LOVE) is the rock that he needed. The tough love kind. Oliva brings him full circle. She helps him (without knowing it) overcome his personal demons. He becomes a better man and opens up to Oliva.

I've been looking forward to this book for nearly a year. No, really. I met the author in a signing line at BEA and she told me a little about it and it sounded like something I would definitely enjoy. She took my card and promised she would be in touch when it came time to find reviewers and I'm so glad she reached out to me. I love discovering new authors and her debut, Safe With You, was a really good read!

I really liked the characters in Safe With You. Kyle was super swoony and a really sweet guy. It wasn't easy for him to deal with all the changes in his life after his career-ending "accident" on the baseball diamond, but he didn't drown his sorrows in booze or women, which would've been the predictable and easy thing to do. His character had more depth and I really enjoyed him because of that. Olivia had her own messy past, but hers was because of a truly terrible ex boyfriend. She was on the run from him and leery of men in general after her ex. She wanted to build a life in New Orleans but she also had her walls up high and tight and she had a tough time trusting anyone but her friend Natasha. Kyle was determined to break through those walls though. While it was obvious there was something between them after their first meeting, I liked the slow pace at which things grew. It felt real and realistic for someone who had the issues Olivia had.

I enjoyed the secondary characters in this novel, too. I'm not sure if there are plans for this to be a series, but I would happily read more about Natasha, Cam, Aubrey and Helena. There were some great friendships in this book and I loved the dynamic between them all. They each had their own quirks, and none of them were perfect, but they all fit together really well.

Safe With You was an enjoyable book. I liked Sophie's writing. You know I connected with the characters. The story was good and the romance was super sweet and a little sexy. I enjoyed the humor – these characters gave great banter. I liked watching both Kyle and Olivia grow over the course of this book. All in all I say great debut! I'll be looking for more from Sophie in the future!

Olivia is hiding out in the big city of New Orleans and she won’t admit it to her new friends. She’s formed She has nobody left except for her older brother Tyler, that has disappeared himself. Her friends know there is something that she is hiding, but they no better than to push the issue, all they can do is help to bring her out of her shell, while still giving her the space she needs.

Kyle was a rising baseball star, but a career ending “accident” ruined not only his college dreams, but any chance he had at the majors as well. He has to come to terms with the fact that he’s now just Kyle the college student, not the next big thing. So when he meets Olivia, the shy, distant girl who doesn’t seem to want to give him the time of day, he finds in her a kindred spirit, and soon they find healing in each other.

But when Olivia’s past comes back in a way that puts not only her life in danger but that of her best friend as well, their relationship is put to the test and he must do whatever it takes to keep her safe. He’s promised that he will do just that, but what if he can’t fulfill that promise? Just what is it that Olivia is hiding and what part does her brother plan in all of this?

I absolutely loved the group dynamic of the friends in this book! From Olivia’s best friend Natasha, her co-workers Aubrey and Helena, and the sibling relationship she develops with Cam, Kyle’s best friend, friendship is truly one of the bigger lessons of the book. Don’t get me wrong, the heat between Kyle and Olivia is steamy and palpable, but the book features an ensemble cast that really makes it work.

The story is told in a dual POV from both Kyle and Olivia’s perspective. There were a couple of minor plot holes and I would have liked to had a little better glimpse into Olivia’s relationship with her brother Tyler, but for a freshman effort, Lira knocked this one out of the park (no pun intended). If this is her first book, I can’t wait to see what else she has up her sleeve!

Olivia meets Kyle one night. He flirts with her, but she doesn’t like men and runs away from him. Olivia just moved far away from her (ex-)boyfriend and doesn’t need or trust any man at the moment. Kyle’s and Olivia’s paths cross again multiple times. They talk and spend some time together. Olivia soon realizes that Kyle isn’t anything like her ex. They do take things slow and get to know each other first before becoming more than friends.

Kyle and Olivia are great characters. They are both damaged, but they find comfort and support with each other. Kyle is protective, nice, strong and caring. He wants to know Olivia and is willing to wait for her to be ready. Something bad happened to him in the past and that meant the ending of his dream. He wasn’t the same guy afterwards, but his family was there for him. He hesitates to tell anyone about his past, but he trusts Olivia.

Olivia is shy, lonely and sweet. She loves yoga, so she loves her job. She also has great colleagues that become friends and those colleagues made me smile multiple times. I was really curious about Olivia’s ex and her past. She slowly opens up. At the end of the book, Olivia has many amazing friends and she has found real love. Kyle and Olivia are great together and they belong together!

I loved the characters, the secondary characters and the plot. Something happened way sooner than I expected it to happen, so that was a nice surprise. This book was my first book by the author, but I definitely want to read more books by her. I was really doubting between 4 and 5 stars (actual rating is 4.5 stars), but there was one thing that held me back from giving it from 5 stars. I sometimes had troubles with the time. Most of the time, I didn’t have a clue how long they know each other at that point.

I reviewed this book for KYLIE'S FICTION ADDICTION.

Kyle was a man sort of lost in baggage, but the way he handled himself showed maturity and patience. Olivia was just broken, without the ability to trust. Kyle tries throughout this book to change that for her, and is semi-successful at times. The plot changes in this book had me reeling, so it was hard to keep up with all that was going on.

I loved how Kyle and Olivia were destined for one another. They both needed each other for two different reasons. Olivia's drama played a huge part in this book, and it seemed like we were always following her mental or physical issues throughout the story, but Kyle always seemed to know how to handle it (for the most part). I think this is the main reason for my rating confusion. Don't get me wrong...this book was truly great, but the storyline had me unfocused at times.

Two people I desperately loved were Kyle's parents. They were great, supportive people that not only helped Kyle, but Olivia as well. Cam (Kyle's best friend) and Natasha (Olivia's best friend) were also instrumental in this book as well, but sometimes their involvement was sort of confusing. I'm unsure how to explain it, but the book jumped from place to place, which made it difficult for me to follow. It may have been me though. Although this lack of definition didn't play a huge part in me liking or disliking the book at all.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was filled with suspense and the changes of anxiety to love by two incredible people. I would rate this between a 3*** and a 4**** , but after much thought it's definitely more than a 3. I hope that you all like this book as much as I did.

I loved this book, the characters Kyle and Olivia were damaged in their own way and end up growing as a person and began to learn how to trust people besides their best friends.

Kyle and Olivia find comfort and support with each other. Kyle is protective, and a straight gentleman who cares about the people in his life. He wants to know Olivia and is willing to wait for her to be ready. A tragic thing happened to him while in school and it ended his life long goal and dream. He became a shell of a guy, but his family and best-friend was there for him at every turn. He hesitates to tell anyone about his past, but he trusts Olivia. Olivia has a rocky past and I wish we could have found out a little more, anyways she has a jacked up ex and she moves to this new place and tries to start over. It's extremely hard for her, she trust no one and is always looking over her shoulder. The only person she feels she can trust is her best-friend that lives 2 hours away. when Olivia meets Kyle she starts opening up more, of course she is timid and it takes her a long while but they find a pace and work with it until she can fully open up to him.

Loved this book, shows how much the characters grow individually and together. First time reading by this author I would again too!

This book review is posted on my blog along with other reviews. www.daydreamingbetweenthelines.wordpr...

When I originally read the blurb for Safe with you I thought this is right up my ally. You got a broken girl who is strong enough to fix herself with the help of guy who doesn't have it all together either, meaning they will have to help each other...my kind of book. So I really wanted to just love this book, unfortunately I didn't. Don't get me wrong I liked the characters and enjoyed the story but the writing style got in the way for me. I know writing styles are very subjective so o thers might love it, it just wasn't my favorite. I found myself wanting the writing to go deeper...give me just a little more. There were times the story felt really rushed and I had to reread an area sometimes just to get a feel for the scene. The idea behind the story was great, the characters were likable, or hateable for those bad guys,  and I found some funny parts as well. It was enjoyable but I just  couldn't get pulled into to it, and so I gave it 3 stars.

Violence: it's there but not to graphic

Sex: once again it's there but not to graphic

Totally enjoyed most of this book. I love baseball, so the link to that had me at hello. Kyle was a lost guy, having been forced to give up baseball at the height of his possibilities. Olivia was also lost, but more in hiding and hoping to not be found. When an accidental meeting turns into more, she wants to run. After all, her trust has been shattered by one closest to her. All she has as family is her best friend and an absentee brother. However, slowly, as she lets Kyle in, he becomes family, too. His own family is very nice and supportive. I would've liked these people in real life. They are the ones that give millionaires and people with money the good light. I feared for her safety often while reading. A few times I felt like the story got a little muddied and I had to reread some parts to get it straight. However, the story was really nice and I enjoyed the discovery of a life after - for both of them. The stories regarding his grandmother really pulled at my heartstrings, as I was that close to both my mom and my grandfather.

I'm struggling with this book review. There were a lot of unanswered questions in this book and I finished the last chapter feeling a bit frustrated and unsatisfied.

So...why the 3 stars? Although the plot has some very big holes, I loved the characters in this book! Olivia ran away from an abusive past and was determined to start a new life on her own terms, without playing the damsel in distress and letting the hero save the day. Her new love interest,Kyle, is also trying to overcome a secret from his past(although the reader never gets the full story as to why) but his commitment to Olivia is admirable. My favorite character is Kyle's best friend Cam who goes from grizzly bear to teddy bear at the drop of a dime.

Overall, I liked the main characters and the way their relationship and trust in one another grew over time but the author leaves us hanging with too many questions that remain unanswered.

I was gifted this book in return for an honest review. I give this one 3.5 stars. I enjoyed the characters and the development of them. The story overall was enjoyable and kept me interested. What I didn't like was how the book seemed to jump over periods of time. The author set up the plot and then just skipped writing about details of the plot. Olivia was having to testify and tell her story to someone... I assume the police or lawyers or a judge.. in unclear which one because the author just left out The Who, where, and what happened.... we know as readers very clearly the why but that's it. I wish she would have given us more in that respect. Maybe that would have made the story darker and taken it a different place than she wanted to go. I also feel the ending was wrapped up in a hurried manor. Overall though I did enjoy it.

3.5 Stars

Safe With You is the debut novel of Sophia Lira and she does a good job. First let me say I love New Orleans. Every time I visit I have a good time and I love stories that take place in this city. It is a very interesting place and an interesting backdrop for a tale.

Sophia Lira is a good writer with a lot of potential. My criticism is one that I expect from a new author who is getting her team together. As time goes on she will have a group help with keeping track of timelines, loss threads, etc. I am looking forward to seeing more from Ms. Lira in the future. I recommend this book and challenge others to watch as her career grows.

This book was a slow start but once I started getting into it, I could not put it down! I loved this book. Olivia was previously in a bad abusive relationship and she left him and moved to New Orleans and started life as a yoga teacher. She meets Kyle (a previous college baseball player) and they hit it off. They fall hard and fast for each other. We also met their best friends, Natasha and Cam (they should have their own series!). Each of the best friends plays an important role in their lives. This is a quick, fun read!

Kyle and Olivia are just like everyone else. Olivia is traumatized still by her past. Kyle is also traumatized by his past. He pushes people away while Olivia becomes an introvert with new people in her life.

I couldn't put this book down because I fell in love with the characters. It's like living the story for real.

I reviewed this book for KFA!
