This book may not be for everyone, but it's a reality for so many!
I may be partial giving myself five stars, but here is how I figure it. I wrote it, lived it and survived it. Yes, I am Lacey. Not only do I feel accomplished for surviving, but also for bleeding my heart on paper. I wrote this with blood, sweat and tears. Lots of them. I lost moments as a mom and a wife, I will never get back, but was needed to write as a sense of healing. I added few fictitious moments to make the story a little more exciting or to add humor where needed.
So yeah, I gave myself five stars.

That girl is beyond cray cray...I think I get it....okay, maybe I don't.

“I don’t know if I could ever face Caine again. First of all, I slept with him the night I met him – so you know he already has a poor impression of me – and second, I left without so much as a note; which, did I mention he will already have a poor impression of me?”
Lacey is one damaged girl. Having a troubled and abusive past, she has reveled in living a quiet life. Silence is her haven, she thrives on anything that can help her escape. By keeping quiet, she thinks that all of her demons will just disappear…never once did she realize that her silence is actually making them worse.
Being almost out of school and wanting to just let loose, Lacey goes out with her best friend to a club they frequent to blow off some steam. Dancing is another way she escapes; losing herself to the beats of the bass and the trance of the lyrics. Hooking up with guys is not even on her radar until the hottest guy she’s ever seen starts to pull her closer…only, it’s not him, it’s them. Some sort of magnetic pull is bringing them together. A pull that will be the beginning of her end…
“I am so sorry for what happened to you when you were younger. I can’t fix that. I wish I could; but I don’t feel used. If you thought you were using me to run from something, then I’m glad you did because it brought you to me. I really don’t want us to be a one-night stand Lacey. We connected and I like you. You are beautiful. I would love more than anything to see where this might go if you give us a chance. I’ve never felt an attachment with someone like I did with you last night. We moved as if we were one; not as one person, but as if we were one soul on the dance floor. And then in the hotel room, we connected on a deeper level. You can’t tell me you didn’t feel it, too. Is that why you got scared and ran away? You can’t run from me, Lacey. I will track your ass down. You have to talk to me. Please give me a chance to make you happy, baby.”
RED FREAKING FLAG!!! No guy says that after just 24 hours of knowing someone…especially someone who was so eager and willing to get into bed with him. I had a really hard time with that one…
Good Catholic girl abused as a child…has some serious demons to hide…a virgin…gives up her “V” card on a one-night-stand? Na-ah…but that’s not the best part. This story hits deeper yet. Apparently Caine has some demons of his own. He has found the perfect girl to unload those demons because she never sees it coming. My heart broke for her; especially knowing that abusive relationships are often masked. Everything is fairytales and rainbows and then a switch is flipped and your dream come true becomes a living nightmare.
“I am running away again, but not from the fear of my past. I’m running because I fear the present and future if I stay.”
“Silence is my haven. If I don’t speak of what happened, it could be erased, or so I thought.”
Never stay silent. It’s what ends a person in the hospital, or worse, dead. There was a great message in this book. Although to me it was a hard story to fully accept as real, I have lived through this, I have witnessed both physical and emotional abuse at the hand of a loved one. It’s very real, and can take a very long time (if ever) to recover from. I look forward to reading the next installment of this book…I was a little, okay a lot pissed at the ending! Yes, it’s a cliffhanger. Yes, it comes full circle in a way you wouldn’t expect. Let’s see what happens next…what more could happen to this woman, really?

I had the pleasure of beta reading Destructive Silence. It's an emotional, angsty story that kept me turning the pages to see what happened next. I loved some characters and came to hate others. There were things I didn't see coming, others expected. There were times I wanted to cry, times I wanted to scream, and a few times I had to stop reading to deal. But it always kept me wanting more. Destructive Silence does deal with the subject of abuse, it's not a light read. This is the start of a three book series so there is a killer cliffhanger, but it is well worth it!

I was given an ARC copy of this book for an upcoming blog tour - I'm not sure how to rate this book because it was a love hate relationship with this whole book .....

D- There are so many I want to say that begin with the letter 'D', I can't stand it!
These are just a few names that describe a certain Douche bag in this book -
Lacey and her BFF Becca do what girls love to do - go dancing and have a great time! High school is almost over and their real lives are about to begin.
At the dance club, when Lacey is lost in her own little world, she feels those hands snake around her and the spark snaps her eyes open. And she gets lost in those bedroom eyes.
Dancing like she's never danced before, Lacey gets a little carried away, and when Caine asks her to go home with her, she can't understand why her head is nodding yes!
She is there for the wrong reasons. She is trying to get over her frightful past and move on. She is convinced that having a one night stand will block those memories - boy is she wrong.
When Caine catches up to Lacey and they start dating, things couldn't be more perfect. He's a sweet guy, always a gentlmen and he treats her like she's his most prized possession.
When Becca tells Lacey that Caine isn't all that wonderful - she thinks something is going on with him on the side, Lacey ignores her BFF's warning and goes about her happy little bubbled life with Caine. That is until Caine proves her wrong...
Lacey knows when to call it quits, she's a strong girl and even though her heart has been ripped out, she is finally able to pick up the pieces and get on with her life... That is until the next thing gets in the way. forcing Caine back into Lacey's life. And this time he swears he will do whatever he can to prove to Lacey that he wants to be with her.
But is he strong enough to give her what she needs, is she strong enough to take his crap day after day as he tares her self-esteem down knotch by knotch ??
if you're looking for a HEA with a sweet story in it, this book isn't for you. This book made me want to jump in there and slap Lacey around. How could she think this was ok? How could she believe she didn't have any other choice????
The book got me thinking - she's a victim from early childhood, someone she trusted betrayed her, over and over. She grew up with more confidence, but it was that one little stunt that shattered that confidence, and all of a sudden, she had the weight of the world on her back.
now while you wanted to shake her by the shoulders and scream WAKE UP LACEY!!! You have to remember she's a victim in this story - we may not understand how she's thinking unless you've been in her shoes, but if you go into this book knowing this, I think the read will be better for you. It's sad, deeply sad. And keep in mind this is the first book to a series of 3 books - it's going to get worse (I think) and yes, there is a cliffhanger .. which sucks :(
So that's my review - I want to give it more stars, but ... I hated him, I really did - and that's probably what the author was going for ....

***This was giving to my blog as an Arc for a honest review******
So when I got this I didn't really know what I was about to read. I thought this was another book of good girl falls for Bad boy and she fixed him blah blah we all know what I am talking about! Well usually those are the books I read.
Anyways as I read this book I started to understand that this book was nothing like what I thought. Let's just say that I read the first couple of chapters and I was already seriously hooked. Yes, this book deals with really hard topics. But it was such a good read. Now I didn't know that this story was about the author until half way in. I decided to update my goodreads with what book I was reading and then it caught my attention the authors own review. Yes I read it and couldn't believe this book was real life events.
I was totally surprised by the things that Lacey goes through. I do know that things like this happen to people. But wow! I have to say that you are one strong person and I congratulate you on being a strong surviver! I cried when you spoke to Cain about your childhood events. I cried when Cain did you wrong. But most of all I cried every time Cain did something to you when you lived with him.
I think the reason the domestic violence was a big impact on me was because as a child I saw it in my own home. I try to stay away from books that deal with this issue because it hits close to home. I cried and I kept praying that you would walk away from the situation you were in.
Then I almost died laughing when you were giving birth lol you were just so mean to everyone yet it was hilarious. I did almost have a panic attack when you really went into labor. I hated Cain and was so pissed that he was there. I like you, after everything believed what he said to you and I really wanted it to work for you but then again I guess I was a sucker for all that he said to you.
God I wanted to kick, stab, punch and scream at Cain for what he did to you at the club. I seriously couldn't believe it! OMG your cliffhanger is horrible I wanted to message you and scream at you for the way you ended the book.
This book is well written and like I said deals with serious life issues. I recommend this book and I hope everyone reads it and recommends it to their friends. I cant wait to read your next book!!
Okay now I will rant about the little things I was annoyed by. Yes this book like I mention is real life events. But im sorry I seriously couldn't stand the way her best friend talks. She annoyed the shits out of me. With all her nonsense words. I do think she makes a wonderful bff when Lacey needed someone but good her annoying words lol....
Oh lets not talk about Cain's mom I wanted to slap her. I hated her and her nasty ways!
I can go on and on about this book! I have a total book hang over I cant stop thinking about that ending!

Destructive Silence is the debut novel from L.U. Ann, and what a debut it is! This is the first book in what promises to be one heart breaking, ugly cry inducing series.
Lacey Edwards is a heroine whose life is anything but perfection. Her troubled past is a stark contrast to the posh life her best friend Becca Fox lives. I loved how this duo was exact opposites of one another, yet something about their friendship worked. Becca served as a source of humor when situations got emotional. Her spunk and sarcasm provided comic relief to balance out the heavier subject matter.
One night while out at a club, Lacey meets Caine Rogers. There is definite chemistry between the pair, but it’s not instant-love. Their interactions are steamy to shocking. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but my jaw-dropped repeatedly.
I can’t reveal a lot about the plot without giving a way every spoiler imaginable. I think what I loved most about this story was how gritty, raw, and real it is. There’s nothing sugar coated about Lacey’s less than perfect life. I definitely went through a roller coaster of emotions while reading this story. The plot twists were shocking, the sex scenes were beyond hot, and the drama was turbulent. This is not a fairy tale romance with rainbows and butterflies, and I loved every bit of it!
The book cover is beyond gorgeous and the story behind the stunning image will leave you breathless. If you’re looking for a novel that is going to leave you saying WTF and nursing a massive book hangover, get to one-clicking Destructive Silence. It’s a definite step away from HEAs, but I have hope that by the end of the series Lacey will find her happily ever after. I cannot wait for the next installment of Lacey Edwards’ story.

Lacey is a senior in high school in Baltimore where her family has lived since she was ten. She has been raised to be a good Catholic girl. She is, but she also has a wild side! Not a bad side, just a lose yourself in the music and dance til you drop side.She dances to forget her past, a past so painful she has only ever told one person. Her best friend Becca.
Becca is as fun loving as Lacey. She is strong, from a well centered family. She keeps Lacey laughing, and they share everything. Good times and sad times. Becca has her own language, one that will keep you in stitches! I find myself using some of her words from time to time!!
Caine joins Lacey on the dance floor one night and sweeps Lacey off her feet. The instant attraction they feel is so strong it is as though no one else exists, She feels as though he can save her from her painful past, if she can get lost in him, maybe those memories will fade.
But Lacey gets more than she bargained for. Without her best friend and wonderful family, she would never have survived the emotional and physical trauma that becomes her life.
I loved the cover of this book, it is truly gripping and true to the story. The author is superb at telling her story, one so harsh at times I was on the edge of my chair. So hot and steamy at others I was turning on the fan! I am on to read the next two books in this set, I have to know how it all ends!!!!

I'd like to commend Ms. Ann for the courage it undoubtedly took to write a book with such difficult subject matter. For that alone, I'm adding a well deserved star.
Now, let me get to the meat of what worked and what didn't quite hit the mark for me. Mostly, it was the storyline that fell a little short. Lacey, the MC, was a difficult character for me to connect with, personally. She and her bestie, Becca, were also way younger than I would have liked seeing at an adult night club. Hence, where my other problem lies. The insta-love/lust she had with a random stranger on the dance floor. I've said it before and I'll say it again, make me work for it as a reader. Make me wonder what's going to happen for a while. Spilling everything out within the first three chapters not only gives too much away, too soon, it also makes me feel like I've already read most of the book. Which honestly, I had...because the rest was so incredibly predictable.
Which leads me to the writing. I'll admit, Lacey's inner banter was sometimes laugh out loud funny, although the dialogue felt stiff and unrealistic at times. I won't give away the ending, but I will say, "bravo" to the author for sticking to her guns and making it a definite possibility.

As a book 1 in series, it ends with a huge cliffhanger.
Twists and turns I didn't see coming as well as the expected rotten acts I was able to foresee all created an ambience of precariousness.
Love and hate.
I loved some characters from the beginning (big thank you for Becca and her unique way of highlighting the most intense parts of the story with really inspiring comebacks) and became to hate others.
It's the first book ever since the Consequences series had wreaked havoc on my mind that made me wanna scream, cry, bite, stab eyes out and generally freak out over a story.
But it always kept me coming back for more.
It certainly cannot be called a love story, no...what it is, is a LIFE story.

Straight up, kittens. This has a WTF ending. I didn’t know going into it that it was the first of three books in the Destructive series. Cliffhangers don’t bother me. I read books multiple times so I will just read this one again when the next one comes out.
That being said, I am still fuming about how it ended. This story is emotionally packed and heartwrenching. I know the asshole of this story. I dated him and let’s just say that Lacey and I have some issues in common. I don’t want to give out spoilers to this one, loves. I think you need to read it and remember that not everything is as perfect as it may seem.
There are some wonderful numbers and websites listed at the end of the book. Save them in your contacts list. IF not for you then for the person that you come across that will need them.

I had the privilege of being a beta reader for this and was so glad to be a part of the ride!! This is one book you don't want to miss!
Lacey Edwards has a past but when she meets Caine at the club, she knows she can't fight her feelings. Caine is one hot man but you will learn to hate him as much as you love him!!! Caine has a temper and sometimes I really just wanted to strangle him. When he was good, he was good, but when he was bad, he was AWFUL!!
This book does entail a touchy subject for some people but I think L.U. Ann done an exceptional job at writing this story. You will have a roller coaster of emotions but believe me, once you get started, you won't want to stop!!
I can't wait to get more from L.U.Ann, more from the series, and more of Caine!! Way to go L.U.Ann!!

I had the pleasure of being a beta reader for this story and OMG!!! This book snapped me out of my book runt. This book isn't for everyone but boy was it a good read! I haven't been this emotional over a book in awhile. This book shows how everything isn't sunshine and roses. I'm glad the author was brave to do something different in the world of same recycled HEA novels!! You will not be disappointed with this book!! This review will be posted on Shelly's Book Corner.

These two are young and engage in a relationship. He is in the Navy and after high school she plans to go to college but not for a while. Her parents own two stores and she works for them. She will be working more since her mom will be having surgery soon, therefore putting off college.
Lacey works hard trying to move past what happened to her as a child. She stands up for herself and loves herself enough to know what is right and wrong in a relationship however she will soon find herself faced with difficult decisions and most importantly working through her feelings.
She loves Caine and believes whole'heartedly that he loves her just as much. I had extreme reservations about Caine when his behavior started to change. I just knew the ball was going to drop and things were going to take off in different directions. I was frustrated and saddened by the reality that Caine was not who I thought he was and Lacey began to see this as well.
It's almost as if he is pulling me away from myself and molding me into the person he wants me to be.
I really don't want to say a whole lot about what happens in the story because I despise spoilers! I will tell you however, that this story deals with falling in love, trusting someone, battling with your fears and emotions, teen pregnancy, abuse, both physical and verbal, alcoholism and infidelity.
Lacey faces so many obstacles and has so many questions that I am undoubtedly sure many many women find themselves asking these very same questions.
Is it wrong to want him after everything he's done?
How does someone enjoy taking something so precious away?
How is a person like that created?
This story is very real and happens more often than not! The cover is perfect as well as the title. It is a great debut novel from L U Ann and I look forward to the next book in this series. I can't wait to see the direction she takes these two characters. It does leave you with a cliffhanger so be warned but I highly recommend this book because it is so realistic and it may just help you see things in a different light.

Lacey is trying to forget her past. She moved to Maryland from Florida with her family and meets her best friend Becca. Lacey’s story starts when she is a senior in high school. She keeps herself busy with school, working for her parent’s boutique, and dancing. Lacey needs the distraction of getting lost in the music to escape from her silence, from her past. It’s at the club that she meets him…..Caine. Mr. Dreamy is every girl’s fantasy come true. On the surface Caine is perfect, everyone loves him, especially Lacey. Their romance starts of as a whirlwind and they fall deeply in love, until things change, and boy do they change.
There were many times in this story where I wanted to jump in and shake Lacey to open her eyes. I could feel her conflict with the situations she was in. Was she right? Absolutely not, but this is her journey, who are we to tell her what to do. I can only imagine the thought process Lacey went though is exactly what someone else in the same situation would feel. I think L.U. Ann perfectly conveyed those feelings in Lacey. Becca, I adore her and I wish I had a friend like her. Her vocabulary cracked me up and making me pull up urban dictionary on my phone several times. I think I may be adding some of her words into my daily vocabulary. Caine, I really have no words for him, I really don’t. I think the game Lacey and Becca played called Name the Douche bag sums up how I feel about him and then some.
Destructive Silence takes you on a ride. The cover is absolutely beautiful and perfect for this story. Lacey’s story was hard to read, not because it was a bad book, but because of the situations in it. This book does deals with the sensitive subject of abuse. I did want to throw my kindle a couple times and had to step away from the story, but always came back. I’m glad I read Lacey’s story and can’t wait to read the next one. After reading Destructive Silence you will be begging the L.U. Ann to release the next one.

***This was giving to my blog as an Arc for a honest review******
So when I got this I didn't really know what I was about to read. I thought this was another book of good girl falls for Bad boy and she fixed him blah blah we all know what I am talking about! Well usually those are the books I read.
Anyways as I read this book I started to understand that this book was nothing like what I thought. Let's just say that I read the first couple of chapters and I was already seriously hooked. Yes, this book deals with really hard topics. But it was such a good read. Now I didn't know that this story was about the author until half way in. I decided to update my goodreads with what book I was reading and then it caught my attention the authors own review. Yes I read it and couldn't believe this book was real life events.
I was totally surprised by the things that Lacey goes through. I do know that things like this happen to people. But wow! I have to say that you are one strong person and I congratulate you on being a strong surviver! I cried when you spoke to Cain about your childhood events. I cried when Cain did you wrong. But most of all I cried every time Cain did something to you when you lived with him.
I think the reason the domestic violence was a big impact on me was because as a child I saw it in my own home. I try to stay away from books that deal with this issue because it hits close to home. I cried and I kept praying that you would walk away from the situation you were in.
Then I almost died laughing when you were giving birth lol you were just so mean to everyone yet it was hilarious. I did almost have a panic attack when you really went into labor. I hated Cain and was so pissed that he was there. I like you, after everything believed what he said to you and I really wanted it to work for you but then again I guess I was a sucker for all that he said to you.
God I wanted to kick, stab, punch and scream at Cain for what he did to you at the club. I seriously couldn't believe it! OMG your cliffhanger is horrible I wanted to message you and scream at you for the way you ended the book.
This book is well written and like I said deals with serious life issues. I recommend this book and I hope everyone reads it and recommends it to their friends. I cant wait to read your next book!!
Okay now I will rant about the little things I was annoyed by. Yes this book like I mention is real life events. But im sorry I seriously couldn't stand the way her best friend talks. She annoyed the shits out of me. With all her nonsense words. I do think she makes a wonderful bff when Lacey needed someone but good her annoying words lol....
Oh lets not talk about Cain's mom I wanted to slap her. I hated her and her nasty ways!
I can go on and on about this book! I have a total book hang over I cant stop thinking about that ending! I need book 2 now!!!!!

Destructive Silence
I read the blurb quickly once for this book when I signed up for the tour, which was way before I read the book, so it kind of felt like I was going into this blind. I like that. I like not knowing what to expect from a book, but from the look of the cover, I was going to love this one.
I was right. I loved it.
This was an emotional ride right from the beginning. We get the idea that Lacey has been through something that was traumatizing, but we do not know what it is right away. With that said, we definitely know that she has walls up and is trying to avoid something from her past.
Enter Caine.
Sexy, hot, fits her like a glove Caine.
And now I have trouble because I never want to give anything away that is not in the blurb, but it is so hard to go on about this book without sharing something.
How to word this.
I had my hand over my mouth saying no, no, no, no for a few scenes. I was questioning how a girl who seemed like she had a good head on her shoulders, someone who was protecting herself, could continuously go through this, then I remembered that I was that girl years ago. Sometimes we smart girls can make some pretty stupid choices.
It really was so good.
When you read a book like this, it makes you feel like you are getting a peek into the author’s mind, they understand this situation somehow because they are able get in there and see how someone in this situation is likely to react.
398 pages flew by for me, it took me one afternoon/evening to read this. I honestly did not put it down. Lucky me, it is freezing here (do not be too jealous, I would rather not have –37 degree windchills) and the husband was off work (work closed so he gets to unfreeze our pipage things that froze) to be the parent while I secluded myself in my room to read.

P.S. For those following my 2014 Contemporary Romance Shelf, I am adding this to it, while it isn't your typical romance, it definitely has romance in it. I am sure I will go over 10 contemporary romances this year, so if this doesn't qualify, it'll all work out in the end. :)

Holy crazyyyy! What an ending! Ahhhh, you left me totally hanging! At first, I was skeptical about this book. I thought it was somewhat immature and had absolutely no idea where the story was going but midway through I realized holy shit! This is a true story. Seriously, two thumbs up to the author for writing about your journey through heartbreak, tragedies, love, loss, and so much more. Stories like these make me think about my 'bad days', the days when I think life is beating me down, and make me realize this: it could be sooo sooo much worse.
I had a total love/hate relationship going on with Caine. At the beginning, I loved him! I was actually kinda pissed at Lacey for running away from him. Then he cheats on her and it pretty much goes downhill from there. There were times while I read this book that I wanted to cry, scream, I hurt, swooned, lusted, etc. I did laugh when she was giving birth though. I remember that from my own personal experience, as every woman does, and it's SO much fun! Yeah, not so much.
Honestly, I did have a hard time "getting into" this story but once I did, I was sucked in. Then to find out it's a true story? I couldn't pull myself away. It truly takes a strong person to lay their life out there for the whole world to read knowing of the pain and hurt they've endured. I kind of compared this story to Dave Pelzer's series, "A Child Called It". They forms of abuse and life events are totally different, however. I'm interested in reading on to see what happens and whether success, forgiveness, and relief comes to the main character. Two thumbs up to the author for sharing her story especially for others whom can relate to the events that took place in this book, I'm sure Destructive Silence will hit home for those particular individuals.

Well.....what a story! It is so hard to review without saying too much, so I will try.
I went into it kind of blind, wondering what it was about as i loved the cover and title and just wanted to read it.
Having been through so much so young, Lacey let it all go one night and did something she had never done before...slept with a man, drop dead gorgeous, instant attraction off the charts met in the club Caine. I mean sh^t it was melting how they were almost at it on the dance floor.
What a charming wonderful guy Caine was...romantic, caring, singing to her in front of everyone, melted my heart...a perfect gentlemen, opening car doors, a little possessive, but that is because he loves her right?
....he has an alcoholic mom and a troubled past and when events in life take a surprising twist....she agrees to marry him, even after a hiccup in their relationship...after visiting the courthouse, he stops opening the car door! Where did the gentleman go? My Heart Sank.
That was it..after reading along happily i was suddenly hit right between the eyes. You think you have been got with
what is coming next....no, you haven't!!
I loved the relationship between Lacey and Becca, i was laughing out loud during their conversations and in the hospital during the quiz i was freaking screaming! (You will know when you read it)
From 'The Pussy Doctor'....to 'Aunt Flo visiting', to the Smurf scene, i could barely breathe and this was such light relief after i had been through the drainer living through Lacey's life.
I hate to think what Lacey would have done without her friends and family.
I wanted Becca's con's list carved into his back with a rusty knife.......i think Becca would have done it.
The ending was something else, one thing.....then another, all wrapped up teetering over the edge of a sharp dark cliff edge!

WOW...... Just WOW!
You know when you sit down to read a story and you think 'yeah I know how this will turn out' and in most cases it does!... That's how I was when I started this book and boy oh boy how wrong I was!
While I did find it a little hard to get into at first, it slowly but surely pulled me further and further in and had me hooked. What I didn't realise going in was that this book is based on actual events, this is the story of someone's life, this is the story of the author L.U Ann's life and that revelation completely blew me away.
To not only live the events that take place in this book, but to survive them and then to lay them bare for all to see and read about.... My god, that must take the most amazing strength and courage imaginable. L.U Ann I am in awe of you!
Lacey is a young, beautiful, naïve girl who goes through shocking things. After a one night stand with Caine, she runs from him and it frustrated me that she did that but when he changes so completely I was thinking 'Wow, she should have just kept running'.
Caine, I loved at first, he was great but the change in him is sooo immense and he becomes such an awful person that I really felt like giving him a taste of his own medicine.
This story is unbelievably real and evokes such a wide range of emotions that you may feel all over the place and struggle to finish it. However, the reality is that people go through things like this every day, these hard issues that sometimes get swept under the carpet need to forced into the open and recognised for the serious nature of them. Domestic Violence is real and L.U Ann has portrayed her own personal experiences perfectly.
Yes there is a major cliffhanger which will have you screaming at your kindle but this is a book that I highly recommend you read. I can't wait for Destructive Choices so we can find out if Lacey gets her HEA.

While I did find it a little hard to get into at first, it slowly but surely pulled me further and further in and had me hooked. What I didn't realise going in was that this book is based on actual events, this is the story of someone's life, this is the story of the author L.U Ann's life and that revelation completely blew me away.
To not only live the events that take place in this book, but to survive them and then to lay them bare for all to see and read about.... My god, that must take the most amazing strength and courage imaginable. L.U Ann I am in awe of you!
Lacey is a young, beautiful, naïve girl who goes through shocking things. After a one night stand with Caine, she runs from him and it frustrated me that she did that but when he changes so completely I was thinking 'Wow, she should have just kept running'.
Caine, I loved at first, he was great but the change in him is sooo immense and he becomes such an awful person that I really felt like giving him a taste of his own medicine.
This story is unbelievably real and evokes such a wide range of emotions that you may feel all over the place and struggle to finish it. However, the reality is that people go through things like this every day, these hard issues that sometimes get swept under the carpet need to forced into the open and recognised for the serious nature of them. Domestic Violence is real and L.U Ann has portrayed her own personal experiences perfectly.
Yes there is a major cliffhanger which will have you screaming at your kindle but this is a book that I highly recommend you read. I can't wait for Destructive Choices so we can find out if Lacey gets her HEA.

Abuse is pretty common among many relationships whether they are mentally, emotionally, or physically. Lacey is a good "Catholic" girl who always tries to do the good thing. Lacey has had an emotional trauma happen when she was just a little girl and this helps her keep the walls surrounding her heart. One night while out dancing with her best friend Becca, Lacey ran into the most handsome man she has ever seen before, Caine. Becca tries to tell Lacey this may be a bad idea until Becca notices Caine's friend Lucas. Caine talks Lacey into staying the night with him, she agrees but then runs away once he falls asleep. Caine is very pursistant in the way he wants Lacey, he makes her feel like she is the Princess of this world. Until one day everything falls apart. Lacey wants to end things before she loses more of herself but certain circumstances change that. This end up bringing Lacey and Caine being married to each other, against Becca's insistent advice. Once the marriage begins the abused from Caine starts. Lacey starts to lose herself and pull away from everyone she loves. Caine always finds ways to make her forgive him and stay with him. Once Lacey's family and Becca notice what is happening they make her leave from this hell hole with Caine. Lacey has someone who needs all of her, together. With the end Lacey is in a position of wondering if she will ever be the same again. L.U. Ann writes an emotional story of a young woman in love. A woman who believes in the man she loves with everything she has, even if she loses herself in the process. Will Lacey lead with her mind or her heart? Destructive Silence is an excellent read from the point of view of a young woman in an abusive relationship trying to be saved. This is an wonderful book and I'm excited to continue reading Lacey's story.

OMG!!! What did I just read? I literally had to stop twice before finishing this book. I was expecting girl meets bad boy, bad boy saves her from her past then they live happily ever after, next book please! Man was I wrong.
I was so frustrated with Lacey for being so naïve (this is me being nice), that I wanted to reach inside my kindle and slap some sense into her. Caine is a total douche yet Lacey would make excuses for him. I kept asking myself why would the author make her so weak, WHY??? So I came to the conclusion that soon enough her knight in shining armor would rescue her then everything would get better, now halfway thru the book and it still didn’t happen. The relationship between her and Caine, if one can even call it that, would just get even worse by the minute.
So I just had enough I couldn’t finish it, I gave up. Then I figured out it is based on a true story, not just any story, it is L.U. Ann’s story. Wow!!! Then this book took a whole new meaning. As a child I had seen the aftermath of these events. Never in a million years would I have imagined how broken a person is to allow a manipulative A** hole to run her life.
Destructive silence deals with a very sensitive subject of abuse, not only mentally but physically as well. I am looking forward to Lacey finding her HEA and hopefully it happens in the next installment, since this book ends in a Cliffhanger!

My heart breaks for Lacey and what she endures in these two books. Every time the unthinkable happened I had to remind myself that Lacey is based on the author's real life experience. What a harrowing ordeal for anyone to experience even one of these unspeakable acts, let alone all of them. Oftentimes I found myself wondering how much more this poor girl could possibly endure. Since it is a true story the answer must be A LOT!
Honestly, I do think the books could've used more polish and some changes to allow it to flow better, but you can see a progression in the author's writing from Destructive Silence to Destructive Choices.
What you will find here is a story without any rose petals to dress it up. It's raw and visceral. Reading the book itself is enough to pull the reader into a black cloud with no happy ending in sight. Speaking of happy endings - you won't find one here. Two killer cliffhangers leave you right on the edge. Although sometimes real life serves us a cliffhanger doesn't it? My heart goes out to LU Ann for having the courage to tell her story and share it with the world. I hope we will get Lacey's (and LU Ann's) happily ever after soon with book 3!

Won this book in a giveaway from Goodreads First Reads. I'm kind of excited about it... But at the same time t looks kind if depressing.... I've read books like this before and some turned out beautifully done revealing the truths in the mind of people in pain while other books I've read are just constant drama and annoying characters. I guess I enjoy them more when the character fights for why thy want and where they want to be even thought their pain may seem unbearable. I'll wait and see what this book is about considering it has such high ratings.
After I read the book:
The book was actually really good. At first I was kind of irritated why the main character kept going back to the man who beat her and treated her so bad. It wasn't until I realized that the book was about domestic violence that I fully understood. It is a concept that I could never understand when it came to women being abused by the very people that are supposed to love them. The mental reasoning as to why women do go back to the men and forgiving them instead of running away actually made me kind of sad. But overall, L.U. Ann did a good job of shedding some light on domestic violence.

I created this Young Adult Edition to allow a wider audience. This story deals with heavy material. It may not be for everyone, but it's a reality for so many!
Lacey is nineteen years old. It is extremely important to remember this while reading because you will be frustrated, angry, happy, and sad. You will want to reach into your Kindle and strangle her sometimes. What is important to realize is how and if she can make herself whole after losing a vital part at such a young age.
I may be partial giving myself five stars, but here is how I figure it. I wrote it, lived it and survived it. Yes, I am Lacey. Not only do I feel accomplished for surviving, but also for bleeding my heart on paper. I wrote this with blood, sweat and tears. Lots of them. I lost moments as a mom and a wife, I will never get back, but was needed to write as a sense of healing. I added few fictitious moments to make the story a little more exciting or to add humor where needed.
So yeah, I gave myself five stars.

This is my first time i read l.u. ann and i think she is a good author. She is very descriptive and its a very believable story. The characters are well written and i do enjoy her secondary characters. What i didnt enjoy is that sometimes it is overly drawn out and it felt sometimes that she kept retelling the same things in different chapters. I think there is a lot of information sometimes and not enough of the story.
This book is a cliffhanger, just to forwarn you. It is also about domestic violence and so if either of those bother you, you should not read this book.
Lacey is a wholesome chatacter, a good girl, that ends up with a bad guy. Cain is a true a$$hole and i would absolutely kill this man if i ever met him. He puts lacey through hell and back and thinks if he says he loves her it makes it all better. I dont know how much to tell you but its dark in some areas and well i will be reading the next book. I recommend giving the book a chance because it is worth a read.

Wow ! This story sucked me in from the start. What a ride ! It's one of those types of reads where you will warn your friends to bubble wrap their kindles before they start ! My emotions were all over the place ! I was like awe, then cool, then oh no !, then no freaking way , then awe again, then no that did not just happen !! I fell in love with the characters ! Oh the hotness that is Caine ! He is sooo swoon worthy and then he isn't and then he is again and then , well I'm not going to say ! His friend Lucas is a hottie too ! Then there is Becca , she is a character like no other ! To hear her talk is like speaking a different language sometimes! She is awesome ! Lacey is strong, sweet, and amazing and you will adore her ! I absolutely loved this book ! I would highly recommend it to everyone ! It does deal with issues that are hard to stomach at times but it is so worth it ! Great job L U Ann ! I can not wait to read more about Lacey & Caine ! In fact I need you to write faster !!

If you’re looking for a simple easy read, this book is definitely not for you. Destructive Silence is not your typical love story. It’s more a story about real life. Life isn’t easy, and it’s not easy for the characters L.U. Ann created. It is a very emotional story. This book will keep you entranced and constantly turning the pages as fast as you can to find out what happens next. It is full of twists and turns that will leave you guessing. And yes, because it’s the first book in a series (oh, how I do love a good series), it ends in a….. wait for it…. cliffhanger. Sorry, but it does. And you will be on the edge of your seats waiting on the next book. The characters are so well developed and written that I feel I know them personally. I now feel like I’m waiting to find out what’s going to happen with my friends, hehe! But seriously guys, this is a great book and will definitely leave you coming back for more. ~Lauren

I was fortunate enough to win a signed copy of this book from the author. I want to start out by saying, I loved the characters. The author comes right out and explains that this book is not for everyone, which I must say I agree with. However, I think this book was one of those that was meant to be written. The themes discussed in this book are very real and somewhat unfortunate realities of life. The only real downer for me was the ending. I get very annoyed when books have endings but do not have conclusions. I found myself turning back pages and wondering if perhaps I missed the last page, but I didn't. I think it's a good read, but prepare to be flustered when you reach the ending and you don't have all the answers your heart is desiring. Fairly well written, great plot and themes, pretty easy read. Read it in one sitting.
