Devouring Milo

Rate this book
Something is devouring Milo, and this time it isn't just his guilty conscience.

Meet the Bentley brothers; Milo, a troubled young man who slaughters women at the behest of his cruel older brother, Spencer. Their already complicated lives slip into a spiral of madness when Milo is attacked by a werewolf during a routine body disposal. While Milo is unsure what is happening to him, Spencer finds he prefers the company of the wolf, and does everything he can to keep Milo from discovering the truth. The truth, however, is a complication all its own, with or without the beast.

The family that preys together stays together, in this wild take on the werewolf mythology.

After reading Tonia Brown's Skin Trade and Lucky Stiff, it was readily apparent she knew how to twist the zombie genre in new and interesting ways. So when I had the chance to listen to this audiobook, I had to wonder what she would have in store for the werewolf mythos. Hoo boy, she had plans.

The Bentley brothers, Spencer and Milo, are killers. Though, Spencer being the older brother leaves him calling the shots, and taking more of a fiendish delight in the trail of blood they leave behind. But it's when Milo is attacked by a werewolf one night that the family dynamic changes ... in more ways than one.

The interplay between these two brothers feels almost Shakespearean in nature, although there's less eloquence in their back-and-forth than there are expletives. Throw in the fact that Milo's shifting into a wolf has a bit of a Jekyll & Hyde element, and the dynamic becomes all the intriguing.

Giving voice to these characters was Luke Smith's narration, who did a real good job conveying the tension, rivalry, and deeply flawed nature of each character. His performance as the wolf was especially chilling.

If you're looking for something a little off the beaten path with your werewolf stories, but want something raw and nasty all the same, this book is for you. And if you can score the Audible version, the performance should make the experience that much more visceral.

Devouring Milo will make you think twice about werewolves! This is the first story I've read that presented werewolves this way and now that I think about it, it's perfectly logical and dare I even say ... plausible. The story contains just enough horror and gore to make the story hit home and make you feel for the characters, even if their actions may be a bit unethical.

Ms. Brown has taken elements of mystery, family, and werewolves, thrown in a heaping handful of murder and sex, sprinkled it with a dash of redemption and walked away with Devouring Milo. A great read that once started, I had to finish because I needed to know what would happen next.

Suitable for mature adults (18+) due to graphic violence, sexual content, and language.

I wasn't prepared for the ending of this book. I loved the whole idea of brothers as killers together and I never saw the truth coming. I should have known when the werewolf could only talk to Milo, the dead blonde, and Spencer. I should have seen then, they were all the same person. This author has done a wonderful job of keeping your nose in this story. I couldn't put it down. I read in one sitting. The twists and turns were so unexpected, the deception was done gloriously. I look forward to reading more work from this author.

What happens when a serial killer turns into a werewolf?
A new flavor of terror!
Tonia Brown has done werewolves before, but not like this!
Devouring Milo is a darker & grittier side of Tonia, and I love it.
You think that a story about a were-killer/serial-were/Serial-Wolf(!) would be enough, but not for Tonia... she had to take it to the next level!

** I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review **

Milo and Spencer are serial killers...many women have been violated and killed at there hands..then one night, Milo gets attacked by a werewolf...and that just adds to the insanity....there is a big twist here...and if you like horror/thrillers that are very twisted....you will enjoy this...this is a very unique and creative story...and worth a listen if you like this genre...
