Get ready to take a dip in a pool of happiness, sadness, truth, lies and other emotions that a man and a woman can undergo in their lives.

12 stories for the readers and the book is not going to disappoint the readers. A cue taken from everyday life of people around you and set with a lot of realism in them.

Only a couple of stories are predictable and not up to the mark.

Rest you need not spend 12 hours with it. A good 4-5 hours and the book will take you on a ride of your life with some hair raising experiences and all kinds of thrill and joy and sorrow and a few life lessons too. :)

I picked up this book for two reasons 1. good ratings on goodreads and 2.I never read collection of short stories and wanted to try one. But probably not good choice to start..

Very much ordinary story lines with very much ordinary writing style. In most of the cases, I could anticipate with precision how story will unfold and what will be climax!! It was like reading daily news paper or watching high drama daily crime stories.

It was easy read but not satisfying one..

An easy, quick and enjoyable read. It's much better than I expected it to be because most of the stories have surprising twists and turns which keep you hooked.
The only major issue with the writing is the sheer number of grammatical errors. It's strange that these were not corrected while editing the book. Also the juvenile sketches at the start of every story seem unnecessary, though it is a nice idea, it could have been executed better.
Overall, this one made for a nice read since I love short story compilations.
Cheers to the authors and best wishes for their future endeavors!

Mahi and Rohit,

Thank you for giving me such wonderful reading experience. I loved your book. I am not a big fan of anthologies, actually I never read anthology before this and you made me a fan of anthologies.

I loved the cover, the colour combination and the back synopsis very much. I bought your book by its name and cover.

From 1st to 12th each story is unique in their own way. The 3rd, 4th and 10th are my favourites. I like the way you named your stories. The most interesting part about your story, they are followed by a great message which glued me to the book.

To be honest, I didn't like your 8th story. May be its the average created by you or may be something else, but I can't connect myself to the story.

As a debut author you did a fantastic job and I wish you came up with some more anthologies. Kudos to you and looking forward to read some more from you. Best wishes for future.

12 Hours
By Mahi Singla & Rohit Sharma
Review By Ila Garg

The anthology comprising of 12 remarkably beautiful short stories, 12 Hours, has been published by Mahaveer Publishers. All the twelve stories are quite engrossing and deal with the various nuances of human emotions like Love, Pain, Joy, Sorrow, Trust, Deceit, Excitement, Repentance, Respect, Humiliation, Loneliness, and Anger. Though there is a high contrast in all the different feelings mentioned above, still both Mahi Singla and Rohit Sharma have brilliantly carved out the stories depicting all shades of life.

Let’s start with the cover. One word - Cute! :D Well, yes the cover of the anthology, 12 Hours, is amazing, creative, unique, and therefore interesting. It has a mesmerising aura that compels the readers to hold the book and smile and turn the page to read on.
Next we come to the small little blurbs (ahead of each story). The small introductions are well written, precise, and create the necessary background in the reader’s mind. The idea of giving a wonderful sketch with every story is also highly appreciable. It provides a glimpse of what is to be followed.

Next, let’s talk about the 12 well-knit stories one by one. As I personally feel that without talking about each story individually, the review wouldn’t be complete and it wouldn’t be a justified review of this particular anthology.

1. A Terrible Mistake: This is a story of Karan and Samaira who had an arranged marriage. Both of them were perfect for each other. The story moves at a good pace. Both of them were rich, good-looking and had everything they desired for. Though the unexpected ending both shocked and surprised me. I smirked at Karan’s situation and felt sad for him. But I could not stop myself from smiling at the end. I liked this story because of the style in which it is written. I bet you can never guess the end till you reach the climax! Well-crafted story.

2. My Share of Ice-cream: Ah! Perhaps this was the cutest story in ’12 Hours’ and I really enjoyed every bite of this ice-cream. While reading this story I actually felt I am a part of it. Reading the story imagining myself as Anjali was fun! Love is the most wonderful thing that can happen in our life. Vinay falls in love with Anjali when he was least expecting it. Two words summarise this one for me - Cute and Romantic! I wish I can repeat this on my wedding day too! :D Lol..

3. The Reason is You: This story was a painful narration of Heena, the way she was forced for everything by her Abba, was really sad. I could actually feel her pain. In a way, it was a very sensitising story. We crib for what we don’t have, but there are people who don’t even have a free voice unlike us. Is being a girl, a crime, after all? When will our Indian society raise its standards? This makes me feel sorry. I had tears feeling Heena’s pain as I continued reading this. The end will leave you with tears in your eyes and smile on your lips. A story written with a deep emotional touch.

4. A Selfless Love: This story is essentially about the father-daughter duo, the relation they share and how strong is their bond. Being a single parent is tough, even tougher being a father of a daughter. You have to nurture your child properly, giving her enough space and at the same time ensuring that she grows up to be a good natured and down to earth person. Too much love can spoil her just like Koyal ends up being a brat. Though by the climax she realises her father’s selfless love and comes on the right track from which she had deviated earlier. Ashish finally proves to be a good father.

5. He lost himself that day: This left me in utter shock. I was tongue - tied and out rightly appalled. I felt really ashamed of the society in which we are living these days. Highly sensitive story line! Brutal reality of our society has been brought to the fore by this story. Gang rapes, forced sex, etc. have become so common in India that the discussion which was earlier taboo, is becoming a common place scenario now. Meeting men like Yuvraj and Sidharth who drink, go wild, indulge in carnal pleasures to satisfy their youth is not rare. I had goose bumps by the time I reached the end. A well written story.

6. An Accidental Marriage: A sweet romantic comedy. Two best friends, who earlier fought like Tom & Jerry, gradually fell in love. Rahul and Prachi; both are sketch well by the Author. A story that will leave you in ripples of laughter with its comic elements. A small unintended prank leading to their marriage is all so sweet. The way Rahul defended himself for not being the reason behind Prachi’s pregnancy and claimed that he didn’t touch her ever is just so well thought of. The dialogues are nice and funny. A really enjoyable story.

7. Forgive me if you can: Tahir… a young man among us whose only crime was that he took a path without realising its consequences. He did a mistake which could not be undone. The story chooses a dark side of life in a hope to see light for his family but he seldom realised that he was hoping in vain. The way religions have been talked about in this story clearly tells that the Authors have researched well. Islam, Jihad, and even Hinduism have been talked about in this story. I will be honest, when I say that there was one thing in the story that I didn’t have a clue about earlier. Tahir questions, “Why young children are buried in Hinduism while adults are cremated?” This has been answered very well and added to my knowledge too. A must read!

8. A Lesson Learnt Finally: A story of two best friends, Tanya and Annie. It is based on, “If you have done something wrong with someone, you will never be able to sleep at night. The thought of wrong doing will keep haunting you.” The story infuses in the readers some mixed emotions. The element of fear lingers throughout in the story giving out a very important message to all the readers. Nice, and crisp story.

9. You are not letting me go: One of my favourites. A heart-touching tale of Rohan and Aarti which left me spell bound. It strengthens your believe in the existence of true love. It also made me a little sad. I was overwhelmed with emotions as I reached the end where the harsh revelation took place. Love stays alive whatever the case maybe! A must read for people who don’t believe in love and those who do should read it to live the extremities of love.

10. I am leaving You: Every heart is precious and not a toy! So one should never play with it. Divya in her entire life kept playing with the feelings of men, seldom caring about them. And when it returned to her, she ended up in the Mental Asylum. The psycho character of Sagar is well defined and is chosen well to bring out a nice story. Though it was a painful story, horrifying, yet it was an eye-opener! Incidents from past can sometimes end up ruining your present state of mind, followed by a dark future. So feeling should not be treated casually. A nice story.

11. A Picture Perfect Family: A surprising end. A picture perfect family can sometimes just be an illusion. Tabuja and Pradeep were the present reality but, a reality from past can take things to a different horizon and leave you hollow. It was an interesting story and left me feeling sad for Tanuja.

12. Beg me, To Get Me Back: A very relatable story for me. If you make someone feel small, a day will come when you yourself will face the similar wrath. It’s a story of a struggling writer Maithali, who like everyone had a difficult path to be successful at last. It also brings us face to face with the fact that every successful person was once a commoner. Don’t underestimate the power of a common man. ;) Nice read for sure.

I have read a lot of anthologies before this, but somehow this one just stands out! Very very impressive work by Mahi and Rohit. The stories expose a wide horizon of themes leaving the readers glued to it. The book is promoted well. Since it marks Mahi’s debut, I congratulate her and best wishes to Rohit for future.

This book is recommended for to those who want to feel the depth of all sorts of human emotions and bonds, the ups and downs of life, etc.

Mahi Singla and Rohit Sharma have beautifully crafted anthology of 12 stories. They have done complete justice to every story by their good research and hard work. This book is definitely a page turning and delighting. The best part is anyone can read it; I am going to recommend it even to those friends who feel that they cannot read a novel because they are too lengthy.
The book has covered various emotions like love jealousy, care, anger, craziness etc. The characters are so real so when you read them you feel that somewhere they are connected with you. The characters seems to be familiar, they are portrayed well. All stories are so captivating, entertaining and realistic and end with some lesson. My favorite is “A Selfless Love,” it reminds me of how much my father loves me. There is a lot to learn in this book. You can’t simply put it down and stop yourself from reading it in one go. The characters, stories and the lessons are going to live with u for a long time.

After reading Rohit Sharma's first novel, I was eagerly waiting for his second book, and when I came to know that his next is released, I grabbed it immediately.

Coauthored with Mahi Singla, 12 HOURS is a collection of twelve different stories, with varied tastes and emotions. Each and every story has been researched and written exceptionally well by the author duo. The sketches are beautiful and the cover page adds to the glory.

The stories are not like chiclit college stories, that's what I liked about the book. Each story sends across a beautiful message for the youth and the society.

Rohit Sir, I am your fan. Mahi Mam, you deserve a standing applause.

Kudos to 12 HOURS. Highly recommended.

Excellent book

Writing short stories and getting them successfully published is and art. stories should grip you and create interest. 12 Hours has done that perfectly given that it is a maiden effort of one of the co-author. i have read many of the recent love story novels , as there has been a spate of them, every one trying to en cash upon this very emotion and truly speaking non of them except one or two appealed me.... but this book has taken a different approach by capturing the emotions in different perspectives and relationships. capturing different emotions successfully is the USP of the book. a very good read and keep it up... looking forward for more and wishing you both the best.

I am not a short story fan, but I picked 12 HOURS for 2 reasons - I loved Te Amo ILU and, the cover of 12 HOURS is beautiful.

Well 12 HOURS is a collection of twelve different short stories. Good thing is they all are different, unlike many other anthologies which just focus on love stories. Another plus point is the messages that the authors have tried to convey through each of the story. I completely loved it. Being a woman, I could feel all the emotions. It is a must read for everyone, and it is a must must read for every girl, for every woman. Rohit, you have moved many steps upwards in the rankings of best authors of our country, and Mahi, you have made a terrific start. Kudos, and hope to read many more books from both of you.

12 hours written by Rohit sharma and Mahi singla is a collection of 12 beautiful short stories. The stories are based on different human emotions and relationship. The authors have done a wonderful job with this book which is really commendable.

All the stories were good but I would like to mention the names of my favorite stories: My share of ice-cream, He lost himself that day, Forgive me if you can and I'm leaving you.
The book maintained its standard through out which is rare for any short story book. The only bad thing about the book was...well nothing.

The characters were really good and so as the writing style. No doubt this is one of the best short story books I have ever come across. It's a must read.

The stories were fresh and something that we don't get to read that often but I sincerely feel that the presentation and language could have been better.
It is really great that the authors came up with stories which dealt with so many emotions. I would also like to applaud the fact that they made wonderful use of the sketches drawn by the talented young boy. Including the sketches along with a few details about the main character was a good, innovative idea.
The book is an easy and quick read and the stories, a bouquet of emotions. Over all, it's a nice book but it has room for improvement.
I had fun reading it.
My best wishes for your future books. :)

A beautifully written book reflecting each and every emotion of human life. This book will keep readers hooked until the end. Short stories should have a detailing which must be short and at the same time enough, I think that justice is done to the stories by the authors. The writing style is very lucid and simple yet it shows the immense effort and research while carving out each of the stories. The plots are defined in a very creative way. The protagonists in most of the stories are described in an alluring manner to the readers. I think the book is worth buying, and really WORTH Gifting !

I just finished reading your book 12 hours and I must congratulate you on your fabulous work.. I mostly am a thriller fan but short stories work for me once in a while.. all your stories are extremely engrossing with perfect descriptive emotions. My personal favourites have been I AM LEAVING YOU as it somewhat relates 2 my life.. and HE LOST HIMSELF THAT DAY.. as this one focuses on the men who should realize it could be their sisters as well.. Once again congratulations and all the best for all your endeavors in the future.

Thank you Rohit, Mahi and Goodreads for the book. It was fresh, dark, complex, it kept me hooked. In every story there was an unexpected twist that kept me thinking for a long time. The stories were real, a lot of people would connect to them, that is an incredible feat. Honestly, I was expecting a bunch of love stories, 12 hours turned out to be so much better. It played with our insecurities, passions, deep dark emotions that are hard to suppress sometimes and impossible to express.

All the best for your upcoming ventures, have high hopes from you now.

12 HOURS is a well written collection of stories. It is generally tough to maintain reader's interest in each story, but 12 HOURS succeeds in this aspect. Every story is different and beautifully written. The reader actually feels the emotions. The sketches are good, and the concept is very innovative. The cover page is a major plus. Over all, 12 HOURS is one of the best short story collections which I have read.

One of those breezy reads which can definitely be finished in one-go....all 12 stories are pretty decent but nothing spectacular about this book for me....almost an amateurish attempt! and on the top of that 2-3 spelling mistakes which for me are a big no-no! Give it a shot if you like the short-story genre!
