Myra Mitchell is on her way to a dream vacation with her best friend when she is unexpectedly laid off. Instead of feeling sorry for herself, she decides to soak in everything the island has to offer. When she runs into Calvin, handsome and funny Formula 1 driver, she realizes her vacation is about to get a lot more interesting.
Calvin Daniels is on his way to winning his first Formula 1 Championship but the tabloids and journalists want to focus on everything but his driving abilities. When he goes on summer vacation with his sister and meets Myra, he comes up with a fake relationship plan that will help them and allow him to get to know Myra better.
Will they be able to keep their secret and resist giving into the natural chemistry they share?
This book has so much potential (!!!) but everything feels a little rushed. I wish some plot lines and dialogues were a little more developed and fleshed out.
As an actual fan on F1, I thoroughly enjoyed this book! So cute and fun. Love that there was no 3rd act break up, so refreshing. Far dating is one of my favorite tropes. Super excited to continue the series!
I love this book! Especially as an F1 fan. Calvin is everything. There are parts where I was left wanting more but overall love the concept and can’t wait for the next one.
This racing novella was everything I never knew I needed and more! Calvin and Myra meeting on a random beach in the Maldives, the whole premise behind their relationship, watching it grow into something so much more than they expected? Be still, my trembling heart! 💓💓💓
I was really into the idea of this book--a Black F1 driver (who definitely resembled Lewis Hamilton in various ways) having to get into a fake relationship? Sign me up! But I apparently read like an editor now and I can't shut it off, so the constant typos really messed me up and I had to stop. But I really think the average reader would really enjoy reading this! The characters are fun, the setup is delightful. The MMC and his sister remind me a bit of T'Challa and Shuri, don't know why.
It was fine. If you're an F1 fan there wasn't much about the sport that seemed incorrect. I mean there were post race things didn't make sense. The relationship went from strangers to I love you really quick so everything felt sped up with not much development. Everyone got what they wanted in the end.
Once I saw that one of the main characters was a F1 driver, I immediately knew I had to read it. F1 is one of my favourite sports, and reading a black romance about a F1 driver was too much to pass up. Add in fake dating and a vacation to the Maldives, I just had to read this book.
Though I wish the book was a little longer, I loved Calvin and Myra. From the first time they met, you just knew they were meant to be together. They had an instant connection. Things did move quickly between them, but I didn't mind. Sometimes, love can be intense and move at a fast pace, and it felt authentic in their story. The author did a great job of capturing the excitement and adrenaline of the F1 world while also delving into the emotional depth of Calvin and Myra's relationship. Myra was so supportive and was there with Calvin every step of the way as the F1 season progressed.
Overall, Overtake was a delightful read that left me wanting more, especially after the way the book ended. I need to read the next book in the series, pronto!
