Broken Beasts

Rate this book
Xoe had hoped that after the events of the last few months, things would finally slow down. No such luck. The werewolves are out for blood, and so are the vampires apparently. Let's not even get started on the problems her own friends are causing. Regardless of the danger, Xoe and her rag-tag entourage are in Moab, facing the werewolf coalition. Their final ruling will change Xoe's fate, and the fate of her friends forever. Here's hoping that's a good thing.

Xoe and friends stopped the bad guys who are abducting werewolves and witches. Again Xoe has to use her abilities but this time her dad shows up just in time to save the day. Now she has to focus on getting the werewolves to accept her little pack but to do that they have to travel to the next meeting.

Looks like fitting it with the werewolves won't be easy as they don't want a murdering demon running a pack. However, the wolves won't be the only ones that Xoe and her friends have to worry about while they are in town. The werewolves who don't trust them have hired some vampires to protect keep an eye on them and one just happen to know Jason from his past. As if having to worry about werewolves isn't enough they have hostile vampires and they don't even know if their little pack will be approved.

I love Xoe so much she's such a great character. Willing to take on the role of an alpha werewolves pack so her friends will safe. I admit that I like Jason he may be a vampire but he's the added support she needs as she risks her life for her friends. I wasn't sure about Lela as we only had a little glimpse of her in the prior book but she's proven her loyalties. Chase has also stayed around finding his place among the group and helping out Xoe as he's also part demon.

Broken Beasts starts right after the end of the Accidental Ashes and this time they are dealing with werewolves. Xoe and her friend's worlds have changed dramatically in just a short time and continue to evolve. I just finished the prior book and rolled right into this one curious to see how things would play out with the werewolves. I love the way the different supernatural beings are intertwined they just work so well together. The characters are great you can't help loving Xoe she's just the girl next door you want to be friends with even if she does blow up electronics. The author has done a great job weaving a complex enchanting story that captured my imagination. I can't wait to dive into the next one.

Am I the only one that feels Xoe is too pessimistic and egotistical? It seems as though she is all snark and nothing else. Wanting to protect her friends means nothing when you never treat them well. Being strong or brave is one thing, but having no off button for all the sarcasm just annoys me and makes me feel bad for her friends.

I must say that I'm really enjoying the Xoe Meyers series and "Broken Beasts" in a great new installment. I just love Xoe's snarky humor and the crazy challenges that always seem to come her way.

Xoe and her ragtag company of werewolves attend the first conference in Moab, Utah where she will seek approval on her petition to be alpha and form a pack. Unfortunately, Xoe is definitely not known for her diplomacy and she will need a modicum of it if she is to get her wish. To make matters worse, one of her friends, Allison, wants to be changed into a werewolf and nobody is willing or wants to do it.

As soon as Xoe arrives it seems her very presence is enough to set off a hellstorm of vitriol from not only the werewolf faction but vampires as well. My, my, my, what's a girl to do? Xoe's reply (metaphorically speaking), "Frankly my dear I don't give a dam!" Did I mention I love her snarkiness? (Lol)

In an effort of full disclosure, although I am one of those people who enjoy cliffhanger endings, I don't like the abruptness of Ms. Rowthle's endings and she seems to include it in each book. Additionally, I am also not a fan of love triangles and it appears the series is headed in that direction. However, the humorous antics of Xoe outweighs these issues and I will definitely be going on with the next book in the series.

The third book in the Xoe series does not disappoint. This series has me hooked. Sara C. Roethle is an excellent writer and knows how to take the reader on a fast paced, can't get enough journey! This book finds Xoe and her friends, making new friends and enemies while attempting to form a pack. I want to learn more about Devin, he has my interest piqued. Highly recommend this series. It's just as good and maybe even better than several high profile series out there.

Had this book in mt 'To Read' list for ages and didn't know what I was missing.

Awesome characters and relatioinship, wonderful story telling and a wonderfully knew take on the whole thing. I was impressed and engaged and, naturally, ended up on a Xoe Marathon read. Of course, all good things must come to an end, and I think there are only 4 books.

Meh. It was ok; I still like Zoe and I like the way she's written. But the effort to suspend disbelief with regard to her situation as a teenager allowed to do the things she and her friends are allowed to do is becoming more of a struggle than the stories themselves are worth. Not sure if I'll read another.

Good enough.

Not sure the writing is good to me. I like the stories and am reading them. But they aren't really drawing me in as much as I prefer. Kind of a lack of emotional investment I guess. Still, not bad.

I didn't think it was any better or worse than the other two, just didn't really care one way or another.

For my clean readers: language and violence.

I didn't care for this book as much as I did for the first 2 books. The last book, Xoe seemed excited to be an Alpha of a werewolf pack but in this 3rd book she seemed so hostile, egotistical, and power hungry and acted like she wanted no part of it. Xoe character changed significantly from the last 2 books. There were a few typos I noticed in the last 3 books but nothing too bad. When Xoe had to go in front of all the Alphas to state her cause why she wanted to become one, she stated earlier that Lela helped her write it. So when she got up there she basically said 2 sentences and I was like she needed help with that. When they all went to Utah, how were they able to get permission from their parents? The first 2 books, Lucy's parents rarely let her spend overnight time with her friends and now they allowed her to go on a trip to Utah? Maybe I missed it somewhere. The 3 stars I gave this book was because of Xoe attitude change. It just seemed so unnecessary.

The writing quality improves with each book and so does the plot. There are a lot of different elements in this book. Such as, there are a bunch of different types of supernatural beings, magic, mystery, and drama. I believe in the end someone will get hurt as new feelings develope. It will be interesting to see which path is taken on this journey.

Didn't like it as much as the first two, tho I think its just the teen angst...not quite in the mood for it.
The book in general is pretty well written. The characters are diverse and interesting.
Not a fan of Jason. Is to soon to yell " Team Chase?"
After 3 books in the series I think its time to move on to something else. Might go back to it later. 🤷‍♀️

I got the first 3 books in a set and I have to say I’ve really enjoyed them! They are the new Scooby gang a mismatch of supernatural friends! This one was a bit of a slow burner but still kept the story going! I’m looking forward to more demon action as you don’t get it as much as the usual vampire and werewolves! A hoot start to a decent series!

Well written and gripping.  Definitely keeps you reading well past bedtime.  A plot that is out of the ordinary enough to keep you guessing. Really can deliver the tension, during the action. And you feel the relationships and love the characters, but without the wrenching misery dealt out by so many.  Situationally LOL funny, and a snarky little mouth on the teens.

I love the fact that Xoe makes up her own kind about things. And does what she feels and doesn't let anyone make her decisions for her. All of the characters so far are great and I would love to watch a tv show of this series.

Though I'm enjoying the series for the most part, this is my least favourite of the books in it so far. It starts right after the previous book left off, but seems to take forever for much to happen. Then it ends abruptly right after things start getting exciting.

Not much actually happened in this one. A lot of set pieces and new characters were introduced but nothing really happened at all. These books continue to be poorly written and badly paced. Not gonna continue on with this series. I’ve seen enough.

Just arm Xoe with info already, people! Letting her carry on as is isn't helping, clearly.

Teaching her how to use and control her power is all good and well, but she definitely needs info to, possibly, stay out of as much trouble.

And Trouble seems to follow her everywhere.

another very enjoyable addition to the series. we meet more of the supernatural community in this book and it is a whirlwind of political drama. also humorous.

The character development, plot, plot twist, the new love interest, the perfect side characters.. this third book truly is the best of the first three of the series. I’m in love!

Just saying, I’m team Demon! Not team Vampire! (Shock horror - this is not my norm!)
The story short? Xoe finds herself knee deep in a werewolf pissing contest and upsets a bitch vampire.
She handles it with her usual grace and charm (lol). I really enjoyed the twist and am intrigued to see what Xoe and her team’s next challenge is! I’m hanging to read book 4!

As this series progresses, it gets harder for me to follow or care about the characters. WHY does Xoe, as a half-demon, need a wolf pack again??

Well, Xoe needs to talk to adults before she makes some of these decisions. I was a tad nervous when Abel asked her to let him 'own' her, but then realized he has a wife. Vampires can be such tools sometimes.
