Rate this book
When Kristoff St. Michaels sees Veronica Dubois, he knows he will own her. Being the highest bidder at the Virgin Auctions wasn't difficult, especially when he had never wanted something as much as he wanted her. With a scarred past, Kristoff hopes he can start a new life with his young, virgin bride.

Veronica knows that she must give herself to Kristoff, but she doesn't know is if her new husband will be gentle or cruel. But Veronica isn't Krostoff's first wife, and she fears she will forever be the shadow of a dead woman.

As their relationship grows, and the once virtual strangers find out the most intimate details of their lives, they both realize a future together doesn't seem unattainable.

But their happiness is short-lived when Kristoff's past and jealousy threaten to tear them apart for good.

This is a futuristic reality book that touches on the subject of VIRGIN AUCTIONS. Essentially, the poorest women are raised to be the pure brides to the rich. They are taught to be submissive and expected to cater to needs of these affluent elite. Basically, it's legalized human trafficking.

Now the hero Kristoff age 38 believes that “Auctions were barbaric, but the older he got the more his father instilled that the auctions were a necessary evil."
Therefore, he had reluctantly bought a wife before at this auction, but when she "accidentally" dies after 5 years of marriage, he goes back in search of another.
This is two years after her death and he only does this because he sees the heroine's picture and he feels compelled to own her and cherish her.
IN OTHER WORDS LOVE/LUST AT FIRST SIGHT!

description

The heroine Veronica is a young virgin of 20 whom was been expecting her whole life to be a rich man plaything. She was not expecting to find any affection and tenderness. The hero's behavior puzzled and delighted her. Finally, she would be able to experience love, but will it honestly be this simple?!
Here is a spoiler, IT'S NOT!
So many elements of danger at play here.
I urge you to read the book and discover for yourself.

This book was not too long but it still felt complete. The hero and the heroine are evenly match despite their socioeconomic differences. I enjoyed reading about their passionate relationship and their growing love for each other.
However, I must caution you that this is still mostly erotica. It is a romantic and has some action and drama but at the core it's mostly about the physical.
But much sweeter than some of Jenika Snow's other books but still has the passion and some dirty talking (which I secretly enjoy).

Worth a read and even a reread for me.

I really did enjoy this! And the hero was amazing, the way he treats the heroine is so beautiful and such a gentleman it was amazing to see compared to the assholes we read about nowadays.

I liked the h as well :)

What made me drop the rating is because of the ex-dead wife trope. I don't mind this in some cases, but here I didn't like how inlove he was with his ex. Yes, they weren't actually doing well before she died but it was because of her and her lacking feelings towards him. I was waiting for the moment he says "I never loved her as much as you" to the h, or for him to talk about how the love or life he has with the h is better, she's his true soul mate etc. But that's never made and I truly thought it would get there. Specially how much of a b**** his ex ended up to be.

I didn't like that there were pictures of his ex everywhere when the h arrived.

That being said, it was truly incredible the gentleness and consideration the H treated the h with, and not in a sloppy romantic way. But in a way where he never wanted her to be hurt.

I never thought for one second he still loves his ex, but I wish we could've known that he loves this h more for sure.

Also, for such a short book... it cost £3.49.

Now for a book which isn't meant to be or trying to be deep and extremely short, with lots of sex, that's a bit much....

I honestly found it just average.
The whole auction vs beta male vs ex wife.. everything was a big jumbled mess for me.
I wish more was written about the couple and we explored their relationship- instead of past and other characters.
Safe read

Happy sigh! I've literally just finished this, and man, can Jenika tell a good tale. As always the sex was hot, but what I truly loved was the depth of emotion in this story.

The twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat and I'm surprised my Kindle didn't catch fire the speed I was clicking toward the end. No spoilers from me, but sheesh, I was worried there for a bit.

Fantastic story!

NOW THIS IS A STORY!!!

I was waiting to see how the writing changed because I had read book four in the series, then started at one and book three was definitely a turning point which made the series a million times better.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review

First off let me start by admitting my obsession for Kristoff St. Micheals. OMG that name just sends me into a quivering mess of shivers. If I was ever going to leave my husband for a book boyfriend Kristoff is the man I would do it for.

When Jenika said she was going to write a follow up story to The First Time I damn near peed my pants with excited giggles. The first book I ever read by Jenika was the start of Kristoff’s and Veronica’s journey. What I had expected to read was a dark twisted romance but what I got was a beautiful romantic tale of love. *Sigh* When I finished reading The First Time book one in the Virgin Auction series I desperately needed more and Jenika delivered with The Highest Bidder.

Ok, yes Kristoff purchased Veronica at an auction but remember that is the norm in 2135. He didn’t purchase her as a slave but as a wife to love, cherish and grow old with. It will just melt your heart when you realize how much Kristoff loves Veronica.

“She was his wife and someday he hoped she would love him
the way he knew he would grow to love her.”

The Highest Bidder was so much more then just a love story, it has mystery, suspense and the hottest most romantic love scene every. I melted on the floor when Kristoff said

"I want to go slow with you, take my time and savor every moment."

Swoon!!! He’s perfect and has two gorgeous brothers. HOT DAMN!

So would I recommend The Highest Bidder?? HELL YES!!
Would I read it again?? HELL YES!!
Should you read The First Time and The Highest Bidder?? HELL YES!!

I still need more Kristoff!! Please Jenika maybe you could squeeze him into a story for his brothers. :)

Overall: I'm so glad that the author took the time out and wrote this book because i felt that it really helped tie up some loose ends that you were left with in the first book. I also like to say that I wish the author would just squish this book and the first book together because it would make one incredible story. Seeing things from Macie's POV in the beginning, let me know that finally we were going to find out what happened to Kristoff the first time, but i wasn't expecting the drama that was about to unfold. The sex scenes as always were tastefully written, but still left that blush in your cheek. When the plot finally thickens with the caretaker of the house and everything is revealed, I just wish it was done with a little more dramatics because it just seemed like Veronica was easily rescued. Also i'm now VERY curious about Andre and if he'll actually find love like he thought he would've had with Macie

Characters: Kristoff & Veronica

Page Turner: Yes & No

Series Cont: Yes

Recommend: If you read the first book, the i highly recommend you read this book. It brings everything almost full circle.

We return to our first couple form “First Time” Veronica and Kristoff. This gives us more information about Kristoff’s first wife as well as what happened. We also read from his POV leading up to his bringing Veronica home. It actually helps understand the story and it flows better too. I can understand the doubts that Veronica has. Kristoff loved his first wife but we learn about her more from the staff. It is really a bit more in depth. I really liked this one. This definitely worth reading. You don’t have to read First Time. This will fill you in on that one.

This story happens in a weird future, where women are raised to be bought by rich men, as virgins, in auctions. I am a sucker for the marriage of convenience trope and this kinda qualified, so I ignored the barbarity of buying wives. The writing isn't really my type, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Kristoff is a rather enchanting hero, and a very sensitive new husband to Veronica.

This is an extended version of the first story in the series, The First Time. It follows the same characters, but in this case we get Kristoff's viewpoint. We also get to see beyond the wedding night and into Kristoff's background and his relationship with his first wife, Macie. The scenes are every bit as steamy as they were the first time around. But as often as I find myself wishing that novellas could be just a bit longer, I didn't feel like the first one needed it this time. It was great smut. This story and the background it supplied and the additional conflicts just felt unnecessary - though I did enjoy the additional sex scenes!

That was beautiful!
TO see the beginning from Kristoff's view was interesting, and we already knew the story was hot stuff, so reliving it again was no hardship, but to get the story beyond the moment and how they fell in love was even better. Not sure why we had to vilify Macie, but I was okay with that as well, as she wasn't truly relevant to Veronica's and Kristoff's story

Loved Mr. St. Micheals :)) The book was great but felt like it repeat itself in the beginning thou it was in his POV.
However, the story took a turn and now I felt I was reading a version of the classic story of Rebecca. lol. Loved the that story too!!
