Lisa T. Bergren somehow gets all my Fangirl emotions in a tizzy. Not quite sure how she does that. (Melanie Dickerson does that too...hmm..) And while the fighting got to be a bit much and there shouldn’t have been that much kissing, overall it was good and I am looking forward to reading the last book in the series when it comes out. (In winter 2016! Argh! D: )

I loved, loved this book! It was so action-packed. The good vs. evil aspect of the story was EPIC!!! Lisa knows how to display spiritual warfare!! I have to admit, even though I wanted to like Andriana’s and Ronan’s ongoing romance, I thought it was kind of, well, stupid not written well. *shrinks back to avoid slaps from fangirls* I know, I know! I just thought it was kinda stupid. BUT, I realized I might as well at least embrace it so it didn’t really bother me too bad while I was reading it, just mainly now, afterward.

The villains-Pacifican soldiers, Sethos, Keallach, the Sheolites, etc…. WERE AWFUL!!! I hated them so bad! But I loved how much I hated them. It was fun. bahahahaha!

The Remnants are so amazing!! I mean, GOSH. EVERY single character has a different “power”. One is healing (one of my personal favorites), one is evil sensing, and Andriana’s is EMOTION READING. *screams out loud like mad person* They are kick-butt like nobody’s business. But, really, the characters and especially the development was great, well-written, and just SO FANGIRL PROVOKING.

This book involved Biblical references and Scripture A LOT! Which was supppperrr cool.

Now that I’ve kinda gotten my feels out, now for the negative content.

NEGATIVE CONTENT:

I have to say, this book is not for the faint or sensitive in the stomach. It’s pretty gory. There’s lots of fighting, wounds, blood and surgery. ALSO, even though I’M sensitive to “creepy things” and demons and all that (I’m very sensitive) I was NOT BOTHERED by it at all. Besides, good always wins, right? There are inappropriate references but honestly, even though I’m strict with it, apparently she wrote it well enough that it didn’t prick my conscience.

WHO SHOULD READ IT: Anyone mature or over the age of 12 who like Christian allegories, fantasy or dystopian.

NOW ON TO MY SPOILER-Y FEELS!!!!

SPOILERS!!!!!!

Why, oh why, Lisa must you rip my heart out….

The scene with Keallach trying to control Andriana’s body to kiss him…. Hmm. To describe my feelings…. Um, Anger from Inside Out. Yep. The fire. Yeah. That was me.

Also, Andriana’s time in Keallach’s castle in Pacifica were probably some of my favorite scenes in the whole book. They were really cool.

Raniero being an angel?????? WHat????? I DID NOT see that coming. I figured he did have SOME sort of power, since he would just appear and disappear randomly and it seemed he always knew what A was thinking, but STILL. UNEXPECTED PLOT TWIST!!!

Discussion questions for those who have read the book:

What was one unexpected plot twist for you?
While A was in Pacifica, did you feel that Keallach and Andriana should marry?
What do you think about the romance? Do you like it?

SPOILERS END!

So, that’s that! I REALLY hope you enjoyed this review! Let me know if you have read it or want to read this series!

This was pretty good middle book for a trilogy. But there was just something that didn’t grab me as the first one did.

With her power of empathy now seemingly under control, the Remnants continue their mission: to free Kapriel. Andriana and Ronan have shown their love for each other and now must make some hard decisions. But things go array for them when Andriana gets captured by Keallach, Emperor of Pacifica, and his replaced Knight, Sethos. Andriana against all odds believes that Keallach can come back and follow the Maker’s plan. But at some point she might have to choose between escaping from Keallach or falling into Sethos’s trap with him.

The characters were great, again. I wanted more Neiro and it didn’t seem I was going to get that, but the end made up for it. I missed Ronan in this book, badly. Though quiet a few times it switched to Ronan’s point of view and that was awesome. The Remnants kind of faded to the background in this book. It focused mainly on Andriana and Keallach. Oh Keallach. He was one of the most hardest characters to decide on whether I like him or not, though that ending might have made up my mind. I love and hate him at the same time. Then I felt at times he was just a manipulated child.

The plot was intense, but I think it might have been lacking a little bit from something. I’m not sure. It started in the middle of an scene so it took awhile for me to get my bearings. Then it felt rushed at the beginning and at the end. The bad situations felt to easily gotten out of. It was exciting and intense.

Sometimes the romance almost got inappropriate, but it never went farther than intense kissing. It lightly mentioned in conversation a few times some subject matter that isn’t appropriate for younger people. It was a bit violent of course with some fighting scenes.

So I really loved this and I’m recommending it to older teens and up. It is a really good Christian dystopian trilogy and I can’t wait to see how it ends!

Can I take a moment and say just how awesome a writer Lisa is? I have enjoyed many of her novels, but I have to say that this has been my favorite series by her thus far! “Season of Fire” is filled with action, starting from page one to the end. However it’s not only the action that makes this a must read, but the amazing spiritual messages woven throughout. There were quite a few places I highlighted and had to reread so that it would sink in deep.

The one message that really struck me was that even if we don’t understand why God is directing our path through what feels a valley of shadow of death, we simply have to trust Him. That doesn't mean it will be easy, but we have to believe in His greater plan. Also with this I'm glad that Lisa shows the importance of having believers around you when the journey is hard so that together focus can be regained.

It was interesting getting to know Keallach and hearing more of his story. I’m still not quite sure of how I feel about him yet. I did come to respect Dri more in “Season of Fire” because she went through a lot of hardships on her own, but didn’t cave in. I loved being with her on this part of her journey.

I definitely recommend this one to YA readers, but I will forewarn that there are a few violent, slightly bloody scenes. Prepare yourself for an adventure that is going to leave you seeking your Maker and His truths.

My rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

This was a pretty good sequel to "Season of Wonder,". I did enjoy the first book in The Remnants series more, but I still liked "Season of Fire."

Like its predecessor, this book is filled with action. There were no dull moments. Every scene was important and furthered the plot.
I think the addition of Ronan's perspective added to that. I liked seeing things from his perspective, since we only saw Andriana's perspective in the first book.

As for the romance in this book, I'm not a huge fan. Ronan and Andriana's pining got on my nerves sometimes. I had to remind myself that they are both still in their teens years and that they will act silly sometimes lol. [Spoiler] I also didn't really did not like the love triangle that happens in this one. Keallach is creepy and pushes Andriana's boundaries way too often. She better not give him a second chance in the third book! [End of spoiler].

Though I didn't like how the romance played out in this book, I did like most other things about it. I loved some of the new characters we are introduced to, like Cyrus and Kapriel. I also really enjoyed the crazy plot twists, which I won't spoil :)

I'm hoping that "Season of Glory," will be a great end to The Remnants series!

Season of Wonder by Lisa Bergren is a fantastic novel that broke ground for a new wave of YA/Christian style literature and Season of Fire is a worthy sequel. The action, suspense, and adventure is woven together so beautifully with spiritual messages that it just makes reading this series a joy to read.

What I love most is seeing how the characters rely so heavily on The Maker during their times of trial, grief, and pain. There is so much that we can learn from this series and apply to our own lives.

If you love the fantasy and adventure of YA novels but crave the spiritual feast that comes from Christian stories than this is definitely the series for you.

I wished I would've taken the time to give a full review of this one before diving into the next, so let's just say it made me want to keep reading the next one...

Moral Note: Mild/heavy violence - Romance is clean but there are some things in there like leering and talk of bedding women and what not, nothing graphic but there is mention of it. Some religious aspects. I am still trying to figure out if this is sacrilegious to the LDS faith or not. Lots of mentions of the Way and the Maker, and one of the characters is an

Amazing, simply amazing. Just when I thought I had read the best from Lisa T. Bergren, she astounds me again. Is it 2016 yet?

Also this book made me cry real tears of joy, which is rare.

Full Review:

I started this book with the lingering memory of the first book being wonderful. I knew that this book would be so much more. I wasn't wrong and I wasn't disappointed.

It was amazing. I know, I say this about a lot of books I read. But truly, I am amazed. But this one is so much better—I think—than the first. The stakes are higher, the action is thicker, and the purpose, the goal, the Call is greater. Things are moving toward a bigger picture, a fuller story arc, and I can't wait to see what happens next.

The book is told in two first-person POV narrations, which differs from Book 1's single first-person narration of Andriana. This time we get a glimpse of Ronan's thoughts. And I loved it. While the dual-POVs gave away that the characters would be separated from one another, it didn't hinder the plot. It enhanced it. I was able to get another side to the story, a deeper look into the knights' side of the team—the pull, the urge to protect the gifted and to be near them to know they are safe. It also made me appreciate Ronan more for who he is, not just who Andriana sees him as.

The entire book flowed well, nothing feeling out of place, dragged out, or unreasonable. I loved learning more about different gifts, even Emperor Kellach’s terrifyingly power gift. The book went fast because I was pulled into the story and the action trickled in slowly but came full force.

And let me tell you about that ending: wow. Just wow. I am amazed and my heart races that Lisa T. Bergren would do this, change the story in this way, change this futuristic world in this way.

I said this book made me cry tears of joy, which is rare for me. There were moments of pure joy, pure wonder, pure glory that had me wishing I could weep alongside these characters as they witnessed the power they held inside of them because of the Maker.

Unlike many YA trilogies that tend to start off well but fall shorter with each book, this series has become better with the sequel and I can only hope for more in the next book, Season of Glory. Is it 2016 yet?

Lisa T. Bergren’s Remnants series is amazing. She once again treats us to beautiful realms, deep emotions and adventure that just doesn’t stop. While I was reading, it wasn’t unusual for me to get so lost in the world, that there would be jolt when I had to come back to reality. I want to say that I devour these books, but honestly, I think they devoured my mind! I didn’t want the reading to end. When I got to the last page and saw that the next book isn’t due out until 2016, I was unhappy to say the least. I know Lisa and I understand how much she’s juggling, but I really wish she could write faster!

These books are perfect for anyone who loves Divergent, The Hunger Games, or the Maze Runner. In fact I have found the Remnants series surpasses these books in nearly every aspect. Bergren has always been an incredible storyteller, but the plot she’s put into place this time is breathtaking. There’s always something happening that keeps the reader guessing and wondering what is around the next bend for these amazing characters. There are very few areas where the pace slows. Most often, you’ll find yourself completely caught up in the adventure and frantically turning pages to see what’s next. This is the kind of book that begs “just one more chapter” and then leaves you flailing in the wee hours of the morning, wondering what you’re supposed to do now that you’ve finished it.

I’m seriously unsure what I’m supposed to do with my time between now and 2016. I’ll probably be that annoying little fly buzzing around Lisa’s ear begging for news of the next book. In all honesty, I’ve never been disappointed by a book from Lisa Bergren and I can’t recommend them highly enough for anyone who loves books. She’s a favorite and has earned her well-deserved spot on my list of favorite authors.

After tackling her first mission and coming to terms with her power of empathy, Andrei and her fellow Remnants discover their first battles were only a taste of what is to come. As the Sons of Sheol continue their assault on the world, planning to keep all hope dead, the Remnant finds itself battling within its ranks. With everyone pursuing what they feel is the best course of action, trouble mounts---and Andrei finds herself in terrible danger at the hands of Kellach. The Remnants must travel to Italy and find a way to fight as one before it is too late.

I think I liked this book marginally better than the first - there is much more development going on, world-wise and character-wise. Dri and her fellow Ailith set out to rescue Kapriel, and in the process Dri becomes Keallach's captive, not once, but twice. She thinks it's her path to bring him back to the Way, despite the others' mistrust in him. She tries to reason with him, tries to see the good in him. Meanwhile, the others are spreading the word of the Way and trying to recruit people to the cause and to overthrow Pacifia.

While the story was definitely better this time, it gets bogged down by all the preachy-ness. My complaint with the first book was how their Way, their religion depended on blind faith and it just gets worse during this book. There is a lot of religious undertones in this series, which I honestly don't care for. Even as a plain dystopia, with the Union trying to overthrow the Pacifia, and the order of the Remnants - it is a great story. But unnecessary paragraphs wasted on all that - this is the light, this is the Way, and I was skimming through most of the pages. Otherwise, it was a good sequel.

{My Review}

Woah! Book #2, Season of Fire really cranked up the intensity and action. Season of Fire continues right where Remnants left off and dare I say Season of Fire was even better than Remnants. The message in Season of Fire is an important one. Let God guide you, let him guide your path. That is such an important message for the young adult generation and so poignant as well. There were parts of the book I even re-read a few times just because it was that good.

I do recommend this book to all YA readers. but will caution the more sensitive readers. There are a few violent/bloody scenes, but they were done very tastefully.

This is the second book to Remnants: Season of Wonder, so it picks up somewhere close to the last book. I was a bit lost actually at first, lol. However, it moved decently in pace; I think similar to Insurgent of the Divergent series. A typical second book :D I liked having the two POV’s and getting some perspective of Ronan. There is so much hidden underlay of the Bible and the New Testament church that I was left still wanting more–wondering what was next for this story! Hence, why I am waiting until March 2016!!! Yay!

This sequel built up from the first book pretty well. It was nice to see a steady strengthening of familiar characters as well as meet new ones.

A few scenes in the first half seemed to give the same information about Andriana's mission, telling us nothing new. There are many decapitations, sexual innuendos, and a gay reference, all of which are inappropriate for the YA audience, especially in Christian fiction.

WOW, WOW, WOW! When I say I couldn’t put Season of Fire down, I mean it. I was completely hooked, picking it up every free moment I had. One of the things I loved most was how seamlessly the story picked up where book one ended, making it easy to slip right back into this world. By this point, the characters feel familiar, yet there is still room for new faces and for relationships to deepen. I especially loved having Ronan’s point of view—it added a wonderful new dimension. Exploring new regions and lifestyles within this futuristic world also made the story richer.

In this book, the Remnants are becoming stronger as they answer the Call. Although their ultimate purpose is still somewhat unclear beyond “saving the world,” I’m really enjoying the journey and seeing the parallels between the biblical End Times and the way Lisa T. Bergren has shaped this story. Andriana is fabulous—her strength is impressive, but it’s her fierce loyalty and empathetic heart that truly shine. While most of the Ailith have written Keallach off, she refuses to give up on him, determined to restore the bond between them. And honestly, Keallach is more compelling to me than Kapriel. At this point, I don’t fully understand why Kapriel is the chosen prince, and I’m even a little suspicious of his intentions—though that might be my dark-fantasy instincts kicking in. Hopefully we’ll get to know him better in book three.

The rest of the Ailith remain intriguing but still somewhat mysterious beyond the core five—Andriana, Ronan, Raniero, Vidar, and Bellona—and I’d love to see them explored more in the finale. Chaza’el unsettles me, though I imagine seeing the future and choosing what to reveal can’t be easy. Killian is fierce and striking, and his dynamic with sweet, gentle Tressa is adorable.

Sethos also makes for a compelling villain. Watching him try to manipulate the Ailith and gain the upper hand is fascinating—he’s dark and menacing, yet I sense a weakness I hope the others stop overlooking before the final battle. While the Remnants remain compassionate, they still tend to rely on their swords and their own strength when there’s another kind of warfare I’m eager to see them wield! ;)

I need more. Even though I’m older than the target audience, the themes in the Remnants trilogy feel mature and deeply relatable. I love how this series is shaped by the Gospel and quietly sows seeds of truth while fascinatingly displaying what spiritual warfare is and how we combat it! My hope is that readers don’t just finish this story entertained, but come away recognizing that—like the Ailith—we, too, have been called to walk in purpose and destiny.

Ahh, I really loved this book, and now I have to stop writing this review so I can dive into Season of Glory. Here we go!

This series just gets better and BETTER! There's so much I wanna say, so I'll start with a few of the characters;

Andriana is one of my favorite heroines to ever grace the pages of a book. It's like with each book I'm loving her (and the other characters) more and more. She's independent, but knows she can't do everything alone. She has her weak moments, but she uses them as stepping stones to help build her into the Remnant she needs to be. She's relatable and awesome!

Okay, so Ronan is now my official book boyfriend. The way he cares for Andriana is absolutely beautiful. He respects her, and he is always there for her. His strength, emotionally and physically, is... I have no words, but I love it! He is such an amazing love interest and friend to Andriana. In conclusion: he is an all around awesome character!

I honestly wish I could be real life friends with Vidar. His wit is hilarious! The jokes he makes constantly have me laugj out loud
He's also such an amazing friend to those around him.

Bellona has such a fun dynamic with Vidar, it's so entertaining and funny to watch/read. Her sarcasm is phenomenal and the expressions she makes at Vidar are hilarious.

All the characters in this book are absolutely stellar, so I'll stop with these few. You'll have to read the books to meet the rest of the cast. 😉

Romance?: A dress that clings tightly to MCs body; Men Leering at women; (I'm not sure this is "Romance" but,) simi detailed birthing scene; simi detailed kissing; references a scene from the first book (of women being dressed scandalously.); A man kisses a woman on the neck. Nothing goes beyond kissing.

Profanity?: Three h*ll, but not used in profane like ways, are very serious and ate meant if full meaning. (IMHO)

Violenc?: Sword fights; mentions of blood; torture; surgeries; wounds. Doesn't get gorey, just give you what you need to know.

Age rating?: I'm sticking with my first rating (16+)
While nothing goes beyond intense kissing, I still wouldn't hand this to a 13-15 year old and say "read it!" Not because it's bad, but because it mentions some suggestive themes. While that is a part of life, I probably would have felt uncomfortable reading it at a younger age.

A totally awesome read! Can't wait to read the last book! 🤩

I liked this one more than the first, maybe that was because I read this one myself and the I listened to the first one on audiobook. Sometimes I disconnect with the story when I listen to audiobook so that could’ve been why I didn’t enjoy it as much. But…

This one really was hard to put down. It was intense and exciting. I didn’t know what was going to happen next. There were some plot twists in there for sure, especially towards the end… like say what now?

I like Andrianna. She’s maybe not my favorite protagonist as sometimes she upsets me but then I do like her and I am rooting for her.
Ronan is cool too. I don’t feel like I know him as well just yet but maybe by the next book I will. Either way, the book wouldn’t be the same without him because he really is great. ❤️
Niero is fascinating. He’s a puzzle. Just when I think I’ve figured him out, NOPE PLOT TWIST. But he really is amazing.
Keallach… *sigh* Honestly, I have no idea what to think of this guy. I feel like there might actually be good in him but then I really don’t know. Biggest reason why I need to start book 3 like now!
Vidar is funny. I like the humorous guys who say funny things at the wrong time. 😂
And the other side characters! Tressa is amazing!

The faith in this book is the most beautiful part about it. The allegory and message in this trilogy is the best part. It’s enough to make me cry. It’s encouraging and inspiring and I’m loving the journey! Watching these characters grow❤️

I’m so excited for book 3… also nervous!

Loved this book! As happy as i was to see Ronan and Dri finally express their love… i was more thrilled when it was forced to pause. I knew at this stage theres was no time to do their passion justice. So im glad the true moment of passion will be saved until the third book.

I actually wasnt as big of a fan of the dual point of view. For the first several chapters jt felt so irrelevant. Not to mention most of Ronans povs were so incredibly short. Then towards the end i ended up skimming his chapters for references to Dri and then flew through the remainder of his pov until i got to the next dri chapter.

Obviously, i fell for Keallach in this book. Im always drawn towards the wounded devilishly handsome and misunderstood types. I feel like the book did a wonderful job describing the inner spiritual turmoil that Dri faced. I found myself feeling as confused inside as she did. This naturally made me think that he is going to have to show an incredibly dark and ugly side next book. Because i felt thoroughly convinced Dri might be able to save him with Sethos out of the way. But with the overall context of this series i dont see HOW that could be. Except for the fact that it’s continually mentioned that no one is too far gone for the Maker….??!! But then again how could he be spared when he is infatuated with Dri as well… like where would his happy ending reside? Doubtful. Loved the additional characters and the overall plot… but summed up i loved the chapters with Dri and the Emperor most.

This series is really picking up steam. I find myself pulling it up on the kindle app in any spare moment. The Remnants have met their first challenge and Andrianna's empathic pull causes her to wonder if the wayward Keallach can be called back to the Maker, away from Sethos' evil influence. Her knight Ronan, wonders if the pull might indeed run the other direction. Could Andrianna be lead to the dark and away from the Call?

Other books have claimed to do a Christian dystopian. I think this one gets closer to the mark than most. I found the premise to be somewhat realistic. Is it possible, after a time when Scripture is lost to society and many are unable to read, might the Lord not use miracles to once again draw people to him? Best of all, actual words of Scripture are used by the community, remembering and treasuring them. The warmth of the communion of saints is depicted and the ability to change lives is apparent. I can't wait for the culmination in book three.

I didn’t enjoy this as much as the first in the series. The beginning has so much non-stop action that the reader couldn’t even catch a breath. Also, in this book, the first person point of view changes between Andriana and Ronan, and it doesn’t work because there is no discernible difference between their voices. A third person POV would have been a better choice if the author is unable to distinguish between the two characters.

The series had a good start, but I don’t plan to keep reading it.

Well, they've been activated and called on mission, but they are only given enough knowledge to move forward and not the whole picture. Sound familiar? They must trust their calling and God to protect them. They must also deal with their own feelings and put God's calling on their life first. But does that really mean we can't have each other too? How do your deal with following God when you aren't sure what it is that He really requires of you?

Great job again!

This made me laugh and cry. The adventure and plot are amazing. The way the characters interact and what they go through together and apart is beautiful. I really loved this book and am so glad I found this series. Can't wait for the next book!

Excellent read

I really like the characters in these books. They've become friends! When they separate into different groups I find I actually miss the ones not there! That's excellent writing!

Quite a good book. I can’t tell if I like Keallach or not. It’s confusing. This has now got me in a chokehold and I love the way it’s Christian without being Christian yk? I wonder if that was the authors intent.
