Cats are naturally curious, but sometimes too much curiosity can get them into trouble! That’s what happens when one kitty wakes up from a nap to find she might be lost . . .
Luckily, a kind passerby and the folks at the animal shelter are ready to help reunite her with her favorite friend!
A cozy cat awakens from a nap and finds herself far from home. Sad, scared, and hurt, she is discovered and taken to the animal shelter. Soon she is reunited with her favorite friend. A singsong, simple text makes this an easy and fun read aloud.
Cute art, but I didn't care for the text so much. I feel like I've seen too many books recently with the same sort of text. But little kids will probably not be put off by that kind of familiarity.
A typical (and somewhat mediocre) rhymed children’s book about a cat that plays with its owner, gets into a truck and is taken away, but eventually found. Colorful basic illustrations may appeal to kids who love kitties.
This was a fantastic little simple-rhyming (everything ends in "cat") picture book about a gray cat who naps and ends up being moved, and his owner -- an adorable little girl -- searches for her kitty. First of all, the biggest and best thing about this book -- DIVERSITY! Our protagonist has brown skin, curly black hair, and freckles. Why is this a big deal? Because of the universality of the story and because we all need to see more kids of color the protagonists of stories (including and especially stories that feature everyday people in common situations). The last book I saw this kind of happy illustration choice was in Nikki Grimes' When Gorilla Goes Walking or Joy Harjo's The Good Luck Cat. Yay!
Hey, children's publishing, we need more of this, please and thank you!
Cat Napped by Leeza Hernandez has wonderful illustrations that will spark a lot of observations and discucssions. Curious and pretty kitty cat gets a surprise when she snuggles in a cozy arm chair, in a truck, that suddenly drives away from her home! Rhyming text and colorful, distinct illustrations will be make a fun story time at school or the library too!
Will be fun to bust out for storytime - the simple rhymes bounce as they tell a story of a curious kitty who is briefly lost. Big pluses for YOWLs and MEOWLs and a wide range of emotions on the faces of both the kitty and his girl.
The illustrations were cute the story was simple and sweet. There’s a trillion cat books like this one though and there’s nothing that sets this one apart. A nice filler read if you find it on your local library’s shelf.
Very well done book about a cat who is lost and then found. The story is told by the pictures, with short rhyming text as an accompaniment. Fertile ground for discussing what the illustrations show. Extra cred for the humans in the book having dark complexions.
This was a very-easy-to-read book that actually contained a story -- and a rather good story, at that. And it was just the right size to read to two-month-old kittens who never pay attention.
OK, so this cat had a nice home but then he HAD to go exploring, and he got lost and put in jail [a shelter], but then his girl found him, so it all ended up ok. I liked this one. Not TOO hard with good words and the cat looked friendly even if he WAS dumb. But I guess even people get lost sometimes so I won't be too hard on him!
Cat Napped is the perfect example of how words and pictures can fuse to create a winning picture book. Simple and fun, with rising tension and a story arc, Hernandez uses smart sparse text and adorable illustrations to deliver a heart warming read.
