An average, normal girl who accidentally swallows a pearl thinking it to be a cherry on the pastry. Well, that's not a big deal, right?

Wrong.

The pearl is part of a competition to clear the Wizard exams that is going on in other planets. Ichi and Zero are a team looking for the pearl. Knowing that the pearl is inside Nina, rather than killing her they decide to protect her. Where their stories lead them is interesting to watch!

Recommended for shoujo manga fans.

Mamotte! Lollipop has kind of a slow start for me. It feels like Michiyo Kikuta needed to get that first chapter under her belt, because it gets better as it goes. The first chapter is a little over the top in its silliness, while still being kind of generic. But by the end of the volume, it seems like she's settled in to her own style. Still kind of silly, but toned down a bit. The characters are also improving. And honestly, I think the interior art is a bit nicer than the cover makes it seem. It's getting three stars for the lackluster start, but by the end I liked it enough to continue.

This Manga was so cute! So there's a test to become professional sorcerers, and all they have to do is find the crystal pearl. Simple right? No not reall since they drop it into the human world and only 1 team of 2 (whoever finds it first) becomes professional. Nina, a human, just happened to think it was a hard candy and ATE the pearl so know Zero and Ichii (2 sorcerer's) have to protect her from the others (because everyone wants the pearl that's inside of her) until the head sorcerer can fix up some medicine for Nina to take to un-bond the pearl from her body.

One of their rival teams, San-chan an Fo-chan (even though Forte is a guy), dress up as girls and attend Nina's school to try and capture her! Fo-chan makes SUCH an adorable girl it's unbelievable haha

this series is adorable! after i started this series, i started seeing "mamotte" series everywhere! now, don't be fooled, this is lighthearted fluff with virtually no intellectual food for thought. but that's okay, zero and ichi keep the story moving along in a fast paced world of magic and fighting to become wizards.

The start of this manga was very weak but is showed some progress during the book and I actually ended up liking it. Still it's a so-so manga with average artwork and I don't think I'll be bying next volume.

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have even liked this title when I was the appropriate age for it. It was amusing in a couple of places, but by and large it wasn't interesting.

So for a brief moment in 2018 I thought I was going to get into manga. I volunteered to help a friend work at a comicon, because that's her job and I newly love comics. It turned out the only week I could volunteer was for an Anime convention. It was weird, wonderful, and awesome....and I had no idea what was going on. I picked up a bunch of series there to try and finally this weekend sat down with the stack. An hour later, here's what I know: I like the idea of manga, but I do not like manga. Mamotte! Lollipop purports to be about wizard shenanigans, but in what I now know is typical of shoju manga, it was mostly a weird vaguely sexualized prolonged chase of a 12 year old girl who swallowed a pearl that has wizarding powers. So the two wizards who find her first decide to live in her closet, despite being much older, in order to "protect" her from the other wizards who are mad she swallowed this pearl (what?) and are now hunting her. Inevitably, it becomes a love triangle with the 12 yo girl and the two older wizards hiding in her closet for 6 months. It was not for me haha! I debated giving 2 stars to compensate for my novice to manga, which probably is keeping me from appreciating some of the cultural nuance (?) here, but if I'm being totally honest, I just really hated it. It was cool to look at though.

Mamotte Lollipop revolves around a young 12 year old girl named Nina Yamada who wants to find a boyfriend who will protect her (eye roll) and she accidentally swallows a crystal ball, which was actually part of a exam that two magical wizards, Zero and Ichii, need to find that ball in order to pass their exam, which if they pass, they will become professional magical wizards. Unfortunately, there are other examinees that are after Nina as well.

Before I go on, I just want to say that the three main characters make a cameo appearance in Mermaid Melody volume 1 chapter 3, as Michiyo Kikuta was an apprentice of Hanamori for a while. I found this manga to be inane and childish, which I'm pretty sure was the purpose here. The art wasn't too great either. I know that this was one of Kikuta's earlier works, but the faces are wonky and off-model (In Volume five, there is a side story where the characters faces look really off).

Overall rating: 0/5. Really childish and dumb. Wouldn't recommend it to read.

The story follows Nina, a young girl that mistakenly ate a dragon ball while eating a cake. That dragon ball was the key to magic exam that last for 6 months, all the participants are trying to get back to her in order to retrieve the dragon ball. Having it at the end of the competition will allow the magicians to become professionals.
Some contestants are eager to get it back and do not care after her safety but some of them will try they best to put Nina under their protection until they will create a formula to get the dragon ball out of her body.

Teams :

-Ichii & Zero : 2 boys that befriended Nina

-San & Forte : Mixed-team

-Rokka & Gou : Rokka is 5 and has feelings for Ichii. Gou is the assistant of Rokka.

The character of Nina makes me think of Kirarin Revolution, I think they both quite look the same.

This is the shoujo-est shoujo manga I've ever read. It's hysterical and unhinged. When I read it for the first time some ten/eleven years ago, I, myself, was twelve or thirteen and it gave me all the feels. Now, a decade later, I'm in hysterics at the middle-grade indulgence of it all. I'm sorry, I can't take a twelve-year-old shirtless boy seriously. Respectfully, I'm in stitches!!
But it was fun and funny, nostalgic and cute. One of those cases where I don't care for the complexities of a story. I just had a darn good time reliving an old favourite.

Another re-read of an old childhood favorite!
I forgot how self-aware this series can be but of course this is still targeted towards a younger audience so some stuff made me cringe a bit. Still really enjoyed it and I know the art and plot get better as we go on so I can't wait to pick up the next volume!

This was a fun read! The start was really sudden, especially compared to other manga but I think that works here, given the target demographic. My inner tween sensibilities absolutely adore the love triangle, the fun world building and the spirited female protagonist. It was a fun read with an interesting premise, and I definitely want to read more volumes in the future!

I absolutely loved this volume. Since I don't own any other volumes, I hope I can find scanslations of the other volumes.
--------------------
Nina is sitting at lunch, discussing her type of "perfect" man....one that would protect her and be handsome....when--all of a sudden--two men that fit the bill come rushing right in, and take her away.
The guys, the dark-haired Ichi and the light-haired Zero, are there to find the pearl for their wizardry exam. Trouble is, Nina had thought the pearl was a candy, and ate is as a part of her cake. Now, the guys have to keep a watch on Nina, in order to keep the other examiners from stealing her to get the pearl.
-------
Lots of fun but disastrous adventures take place, before the exam-giver appears to test them by stealing Nina and making them come retrieve her. Through awesome teamwork, Zero and Ichi take Nina back and win his trust, earning everyone passing grades.
-------------------
There's also a short story after the main story about a girl who does the doctor's job using magic. She ends up finding out that the missing ingredient, clear drop, is a maiden's tear.

Nina is a 12 year old school girl with a very sweet tooth who dreams of prince charming, a boy who is kind, good looking and will protect her. She eats a piece of cake with an odd pearl shaped candy on top.

Immediately two trainee wizards, Zero and Ichii appear out of the sky. They are in the middle of a wizarding entrance exam - the goal of which is to find and keep a magic pearl - one big problem - Nina's just swallowed it. Now she's a target for all the trainee wizards, some who have no qualms about killing to get it. Zero and Ichii vow to protect Nina and even move in with her creating a magical room in her closet. So now Nina's got two cute boys dogging her every move, but is either one her soul mate?

Super cute BESM artwork very reminiscent of "mermaid melody pichi pichi pitch" - Indeed even the magical pearl quest story line is similar. Very silly premise, but the pace is fast and the story line lively. Will appeal to fans at the younger end of the manga market. Fun, perfect example of its genre.
