5/27/2023 - I only get these books for my daughter for the sensory aspect and she enjoys them. I do not think they offer enough variety in textures. But my girl loves ducks, so I’m at least happy there was a book featuring a duck.

Another excellent addition to the "That's Not My..." series of books! I love the cheerful orange and yellow colors throughout; Joe loves "petting" all the ducks and ducklings. I recently attended a training at work where we learned that picture books contain way more "rare words" than conversation--even conversation with folks who've obtained college degrees--and this book proves it. It has less than 30 words total, and includes TONS of adjectives we wouldn't use in our house on a daily basis, plus "duckling." (We don't discuss ducklings every day in our house...) Just proves that even the simplest, most fun board books is also educational!

Another winning book by Usborne. As my toddler happily touched the various textures, he could not only learn the various parts of ducks, but also hear me explain that ducks lay eggs and the young of ducks are ducklings. Hopefully, this knowledge will rub off on his consciousness! Great introductory book on ducks.

This book had different textures for young children to touch as their parents read this book to them. That part is pretty cool. The weird part about this book is that a mouse is narrating it. The mouse is traveling all over, finding different ducks, and then telling the reader why each particular duck isn't his duck (for example, "Its tummy is too fuzzy," or "Its feet are too bumpy"). I have some questions of my own. Why does a mouse own a duck? And if he doesn't own the duck, is he in some sort of relationship with the duck? When he does finally find "his" duck, he knows it is his duck because, "Her ducklings are so fluffy." Are these his children? Is "his" duck his wife? The picture depicts the ducklings as twice the size of the mouse. Is this mouse really small, or are these ducklings just really big? So many questions for such a short book.

My inner child did a little squee of delight with this book. Often the 'touchy-feely' kinds of books just have pictures without any kind of a story. Here there's a gentle storyline to guide you through the book as you go looking for the 'correct' duck. So you wind up with a quest, a chance to touch different textures, bright colors, and just enough words to be reading. Overall a delight and a book I'd highly recommend with your little one.

"Great baby book"

Usborne touchy-feely books are great for teaching word association to little ones. That's not my duck is no exception and is great for reading after bath time playing with rubber ducks. It's a good quality board book which will withstand a bit of rough and tumble and there is a good range of different textures to explore - not forgetting the search for the mouse. Perfect for terrible 2's and under.

My daughter is still too young to be interested in or follow stories, but she did really like the tactile element of this book. The different textures kept her attention, and the little illustrated ducks were cute, too.
