The One Year Bible, which helps customers read the entire Bible in one year in as little as 15 minutes a day, has a fresh, new look. The One Year Bible guides readers through God's Word with daily readings from the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms, and Proverbs.
Books can be attributed to "Anonymous" for several reasons:
* They are officially published under that name * They are traditional stories not attributed to a specific author * They are religious texts not generally attributed to a specific author
Books whose authorship is merely uncertain should be attributed to Unknown.
I've worked through this version of the Bible throughout this year. I found the translation fairly accessible, adding clarity to OT (especially the prophets) and the bulk of the NT. The poetry (especially of the Psalms) was sacrificed for clarity in my opinion. The way the readings were laid out were OT reading first, then NT, them from Psalms (reading through them twice in the year) and lastly from Proverbs (reading through the book once over the year). It wasn't long into the year that i switched the reading order to OT, Proverbs, Psalm, and NT last. I saw the benefit to reading through the Proverbs as this pace but would have preferred the following reading order: OT, Proverb, Psalm, Gospel (reading through twice in the year), ending with a reading from the remainder of the NT (or even putting the Gospel reading last). One star is deducted for the layout and loss of poetry. SPOILER ALERT: "I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, "Look, the home of God is now among his people! He will live with them and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. "He will remove all of their sorrows, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. For the old world and its evils are gone forever." Revelation 21:3-4 and... "He who is the faithful witness to all these things says, "Yes, I am coming soon!" Amen! Come, Lord Jesus." Revelation 22:20 i am grateful for promises such as these after the year i've had.
Read 2 readings a day for 6 months. I definitely prefer reading it chronologically versus OT, NT, Psalms and Proverbs each day but I had never read an NLT version before
Not a big fan of the New Living Translation. It's easy yto read, being all modern English-like and all that, but there's just something missing. I've done this several times and prefer other translations, such as the New King James, which modernizes the language, but keeps some of the neat King James version feel to it. Having said that, this is a great way to read through the Bible in a year.
Each day brings a reading from the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs (the Psalms are repeated in 6 months), and it has notes for a little more explanation, usually clarification on the translation from the original language, such as Aramaic, Hebrew or Greek.
Not really a Bible Study, just a reading each day. So in just a short daily sitting of 10 minutes or so, you can read the entire Bible, which is something all Christians should do, but never bother.
An intersting personal note, each time I read the Holy Bible, I get a different meaning out of it. Passages may mean a great deal to me at that point in my journey through life, then the next time I read it, the same passage may mean something totally different to me. For example, it hot me that seeing the way America has been heading in a moral sense (or lack of it), I am beginning to wonder if America isn't the Beast of the Revelations. I dunno.
Anyway, I digress. This is a good version of the one year Bible if you want to read it without any archaic language getting your way. Not as poetic as other versions, but it gets the job done. I recommend this to everyone.
This is a great way to spend 15 minutes a day to read through the entire Bible in one year. Great translation. It was life changing for me and I continue to ready the Bible through yearly.
I feel bad rating a Bible less than 5 stars but I am leaning more toward 4. Some of the day's entries were a bit lengthy at times and made the reading less enjoyable which in turn made it harder to concentrate on and comprehend. But, I do enjoy this format. This is my 2nd year utilizing a one year Bible.
Praise the Lord, who is my rock. He trains my hands for war and gives my fingers skill for battle. He is my loving ally and my fortress, my tower of safety, my rescuer. He is my shield, and I take refuge in him. He makes the nations submit to me.
I was quite astonished that the laws written between 165BC to 1200 were so advanced relative to our current-day society, perhaps even applicable today. I cannot attest to fully agreeing to everything that is written after finishing it all especially on the part on revelations (probably since it hasn't occurred), but it did shine a light onto the events that transpired during the time of Jesus and the built-up from the old testament; the period before Christ(BC).
What I found really amusing is the fact that we can see the architectural taste of God through the designing of the Tabernacle; when the church was a movable tent to house God at the earlier days. The intricacies of the setup, the detailing of measurements to the craftmanship/opulent finishing available to man at that time. This could very well be a sneak-peek at heaven's perfection by the hand of man and the endless possibilities that Heaven could be by the hands of God.
It also occurred to me, how seamless it felt while reading it, bearing in mind the chapters were woven together by different authors at different timelines, probably possible with divine intervention. I would admit that there were times I questioned the authenticity of the bible, considering the accounts of events were passed down through word of mouth, especially on the old testament.
But, I can't deny the wisdom and lessons that are still relatable in today's context. And how marvellous it would be if the collective human race abides by this specific code of conduct; adhering to the laws and decrees set out in the bible. The resultant effect would probably be a more purposeful world, purged of extreme poverty, racism and injustice.
However, the more important lesson I have gathered is the need for an endless pursuit of working on oneself and letting praises be spoken through one's actions. And possible attainment of inner peace, knowing that there is an outlet for all worries and uncertainties; by leaving it all to the big guy above.
Upon writing this review, I have embarked on rereading the one year bible the second time. At this stage, I find myself taking the approach of rereading the bible like solving a puzzle or filling the gaps. All in all, I would attribute the added sense of curiosity from reading bible religiously. I would seriously give the translators credit in making this version (NLT) more palatable and easier to read.
I would strongly suggest everyone have a go at the text with an open mind, and I hope that the journey would be likewise an interesting and thought-provoking one.
My version is copyrighted 1985 and my version was printed in 1986. I purchased it new approximately 20-24 years ago. The completion of this book accomplished a goal I set 60 years ago when I received my Revised Standard Version bible in Sunday School. I had started reading it numerous times over the 60 years, but usually never made it much past Genesis or Exodus! This book is written in modern English and divides the bible into daily readings consisting of an old testament portion, a new testament portion, psalms and proverbs. I felt this format would enable me to complete the whole book. I tried several times before with this version, but again didn't stick with it. Now that my reading time is a daily habit, I finally was able to complete it! So it is too big and comprehensive to try to comment on it. I will say that I have a better perspective of it than I did before when I had only read bits and snatches of it. I will also say that reading it in modern language loses the poetry of even the RSV, but I'm not big on poetry anyway. I will be keeping this book for reference purposes or possibly to read again sometime.
I read this Bible every year. This year I used the format, but read the Contemporary English Version - very straightforward, quite basic!
Every year I learn something new! This year, I learned 2 things - Jesus is present in the entire Bible! Even the Old Testament! Secondly, the Gospel of John is fascinating.
For me, the NLT is one of the best contemporary English translations, for reading and studying. However, the NKJV is probably the best for keeping up with at church.
Reading straight through the Bible in a year has helped me learn more about Christ: pictures in the Old Testament illustrate truths in the New. I highly recommend reading your Bible in a year. Do it once. Then do it again. I've done it four times now. This year I changed things up a bit, and I'm studying one book per month, but I'll go back and read it all again before long.
I set a goal to read the entire Bible in a year in 1997, and this version of the NLT had just come out, and I am glad it did. A fantastic way for a serious student of the Bible to reach this vital goal.
At first at I enjoyed the layout however I do with it was double of the old/new testaments in order instead of old and new every day. I enjoyed the daily psalm and proverb.
I love this bible so much! It's not an ordinary bible--it isn't in order. Instead, there's a daily reading that is so interesting and will get you through the entire bible in one year with only reading 3-4 pages a day. Each daily reading has an Old Testament selection, a New Testament selection, a Psalm, and a Proverb. At first, the bible surprised me b/c I've never seen one set up this way but now that I've tried it, I'm so excited about it! It has definitely motivated me to be in God's word more.
This is my go-to source for truth and spiritual nourishment every day. The dated format makes it a compelling appointment with the Author, and the writing is always fresh and relevant. Each re-read brings fresh insights and inspiration for believing the God by whom this book was written. Unparalleled depth and application to real life today. If you have ever felt that getting to know the author of your favorite book would be worthwhile for your life, this is your Good Read every day!
