Saver is a little weird and if you're not use to the gender-bender genre (girls that look like guys, and vise versa) it can be a little hard to get over that and enjoy it, but since I don't really care about that, so I loved it. I don't really know what I expected when I started reading this, but it definitely exceeded my expectations.

The story itself isn't the unique, but I feel compared to most manga/anime that are placed in a historical set up like this one, they tend to over... Over something... I forgot the word I was thinking of, but they make everything really... Happy? Where you don't really see people die, and even if the main character/s seem to have killed someone they never look back on it or confirm that someone actually died. They also seem to be able to save everyone they come across, and no one they know ever dies. I suppose they make them that way so they don't scare children or something, but it seems rather unrealistic. While this may have happified it a bit, in some places and made it pretty dark in others, I still think they did a really good job, both with making it enjoyable and the realisticness/believability of it.

I usually don't give descriptions of the plot itself and just give my opinion, but since I feel the description on the site doesn't give it any justice, i'll give a brief summary, assuming I don't ramble on.

*****Spoilers*****

Saver is about a girl named Lena Ha, she a pretty normal high schooler with a few exceptions, one of which is because she's been doing Kendo (for those who don't know, it's a modern Japanese sword fighting sport, with (of course) wooden swords and armor) since she was a kid, so she has become incredibly good at it and pretty much everyone acknowledge that.

When a rookie named Hye-Min Kang joins the Kendo team she's captain of, he starts to fall for her and soon she also warms up to and then also falls for him, but when his mother catches the two of them together, Lena finds out that Hye-Min is actually her half-brother through her father that abandoned her and her mother to run off with the woman who is now Hye-Min's mother. (Getting complicated isn't it?)

Even though both of them are completely shocked, they still have feeling for each other, but Lena doesn't know if she should hate him or not, because he's the son of her father who left her and his mother is... Ok can't avoid it, her brother's mother is a real bitch, plus since he's her brother that kiinnnda complicates things. Even though that's the case she still loves him, but when (for reasons I won't tell you) thugs injure Hye-Min, and Lena is almost killed, she falls into a river and finds herself in an unfamiliar world. (One of the reasons I don't like the site description is because it stops at this point, but since only the first two or three chapters are in our world and the rest (like 65 chapters) are in the other I think it should get at least some reference too.)

When she wakes, she meets a man who says for her safety she should hide her gender, so she dresses up like a man and calls herself Ley (still not sure if it's pronounced Lee or Lay or something else entirely) and the man says in order to return to her world, she has to find the king or tamir.

So, Lena... I really don't want to same "she magically goes to a different world, has a adventure, makes lots of friends, and falls in love with a handsome prince" because it sounds a little lame or like something for kids. But that's pretty much what happens, except the other world's not exactly a pleasant one, her "adventure" gets pretty gruesome sometimes, these friends aren't completely trusting best friends like they are in some stories, (but I feel that this is more realistic,) Lena and her companions/friends have a fair amount of secrets and distrust between them but they do trust each other to watch their backs in a fight (and trust me there are plenty of those), and the "handsome prince" is already a king, plus he doesn't even know she's female...

So, in the end I think I did ramble quite a bit. I just finished the manhwa/manga yesterday, (all of the volumes not just this one) even though I was only planning on reading the first chapter, I liked it so much I ended up pulling an all nighter to read it all, and while I was a little disappointed that the ending was rushed and it's too bad it had to end at all, I think it was a decent end, to an awesome manga. If I knew how to I would definitely recommend it to be made into an anime.

Long story, short; I LOVE it! Lena/Ley is now officially my favorite heroine! While I think it is aimed more towards females, I would recommend it to anyone and everyone.

By far most memorable manhwa I have read yet. Filled with so much life, action, and loyalties. Such a story full of hate, love, companionship, and discovery could have not been found else where.

This story also falls into my post Red River rush of reading anything related to time or alternate universe travel! I remember before even reading the story's summary i read one person's review. That actually sealed my decision to read it. Did i like it? Hell yes! it was fantastic in many ways! it ha lots of action scenes, romance that was so interesting that I didn't even care about it at some points, I was more focused on the world, on the greed of most of the villains and on the main characters' absolutely fantastic characters.

Meet our main character Lena, she is one of those characters that I absolutely enjoy. she is cold, but at he same time very fierce. She is a a chracter with such a dark past and saddness that you, don't een think that she wants to find her happiness. You're wondering if she will end up in a grave? Does she? A spoiler: She doesn't. The story does have a happy ending, concidering if she will endall the people who die during the story!

Action and sword fight is what you'll see, plus there will be some great battles and court intrigues that will make your blood boil! The mysetery around the heritage of the main character, and the villains who are simply human beings with twisted mindsets and past actions who made them ho they are now! Enjoy this dark story and don't foregt to share your thoughts below! Stay tuned for more reviews as well as promos! Don't miss your next favourite book or manga! Happy reading!

XOXO

Lena is the captain of her high school kendo team. She meets a new male student and they fall in love, unaware that they are related. One of Lena's female classmates is jealous, because she is secretly in love with Lena, although this seems to be the worse kept secret in the school. There is a small segment of the manga that takes introduces us to an alternate reality/dimension that will play a bigger role in future volumes.
If the confusing plot wasn't enough to make the readers avoid this book, the graphic portrayal of the characters makes it difficult to tell them apart. Lena has long hair, pierced ears and small breasts. The new male student initially thinks that she is a boy that almost looks like a pretty girl. He is hardly in a position to pass judgement, as he looks like a male version of Lena. He has longer hair than the other male students, also has a pretty face, long eyelashes and wears earring in both pierced ears.

The art is beautiful. I tend to prefer the art of manhwa to manga. However the whole "incestuous" plot in the beginning was really sudden and, I'm almost tempted to say, unnecessary. Nice to have such a strong heroine though, and the romance moves slowly (not a bad thing).

SPOILERS AHEAD

Holy smokes, Batman! It's like the manhwa author compressed all the K-drama tropes (minus amnesia) into the first volume. Love triangle (bonus points for including both a boy and girl after the protagonist), surprise incest, poor-girl-falls-for-handsome-rich-guy, evil MIL sends goonies after the protagonist, the love interests sacrifice themselves for her and is hospitalized/killed... this manhwa is so dramatic! And the guy fell in love with the protagonist in under a week.

I'm getting too old for this.

Can anyone recommend a title similar to Kanata Kara or Basara without slapping the reader in the face with a million tropes from the starting line?

I like this first volume, although it is a big confusing when they start switching between worlds. Beautiful artwork. The story of a tragic love - Lena falls in love with what turns out to be her half brother. When his mother tries to have her murdered, she excapes into another world.

Um... why on earth does she look so bloody manly.I know she's a pretty girl but the mangaka has drawn her body and face so manly. Besides that it is not bad. Though some parts seriously do not make sense.
