David Jeremiah, whose last 6 trade books are New York Times bestsellers, has TV and radio programs reaching more than 10 million viewers weekly. Drawing from more than 40 years of study from arguably the most widely viewed and respected Bible teacher in America today, The Jeremiah Study Bible represents the best new Study Bible of this generation. It is a legacy resource for decades to come.
Dr. David Jeremiah, founder of Turning Point Radio and Television Ministries and senior pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church, felt God’s calling on his life at a very early age. Born February 13, 1941 in Toledo, Ohio, Dr. Jeremiah was raised in a family deeply committed to ministry. At the age of eleven, Dr. Jeremiah and his family moved to Dayton, Ohio where his father, Dr. James T. Jeremiah, was the Pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and in 1953 became the President of Cedarville College in Cedarville, Ohio.
As Dr. Jeremiah was sensitive to God’s leading in his life, he followed in his father’s footsteps. In 1963, Dr. Jeremiah received a Bachelor of Arts from Cedarville College. In that same year, Dr. Jeremiah married his college sweetheart, Donna Thompson who also was attending Cedarville College as a business major. He went on to earn a Masters degree in Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1967. He completed additional graduate work at Grace University and was granted the Doctor of Divinity degree from Cedarville College in 1981.
In 1969, Dr. Jeremiah began Blackhawk Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and developed a Christian school grades K through 12. In the 12 years he served as pastor, Blackhawk Baptist Church grew from 7 families to 1300 members. He also launched The Bible Hour television program.
Dr. Jeremiah heeded God’s call, and in 1981 he and his family moved to California where he became the senior pastor of Scott Memorial Baptist Church, now Shadow Mountain Community Church.
Shadow Mountain Community Church is one of the largest churches in San Diego County. It is also the home of Southern California Seminary and Christian Unified Schools.
As Dr. Jeremiah began his ministry at Shadow Mountain, he felt God’s calling to continue the broadcast ministry he started in Fort Wayne. In 1982, Turning Point Ministries became a reality.
Today, Turning Point's 30-minute radio program is heard nationally and internationally on over 1800 stations and translator/satellators. In recognition of Dr. Jeremiah’s commitment to teaching the Word of God, he received the Broadcaster of the Year Award in 1999 from the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB), in August 2002, received the Award of Merit from the Western Chapter of National Religious Broadcasters for Excellence in Broadcasting and Faithfulness in Service, and in 2006 Turning Point received the Best Radio Teaching Program Award. Dr. Jeremiah has served on the Board of Directors for the NRB since 1996.
Turning Point launched a television program in 1982 in San Diego and went nationwide in 2000. Now seen around the world through cable and satellite technology, as well as on terrestrial stations all across the United States, conservative estimates suggest that close to 200 million homes around the world have access to Dr. Jeremiah's Bible teaching each week. Turning Point Television offers a half-hour Bible study message and a full hour worship service with the same great preaching. Carried on several national and international networks such as TBN, ION, and INSP, Turning Point Television has most recently been added to Middle East TV Network and BET, the Black Entertainment Network.
Dr. Jeremiah is a sought-after conference speaker for organizations around the country. He frequently speaks at Cedarville College, Dallas Theological Seminary, Moody Bible Institute, Billy Graham Training Center, Phil Waldrep’s Senior Adult Celebrations and numerous NFL, NBA and Baseball chapels.
Along with his speaking schedule around the country, Dr. Jeremiah also finds time to fulfill another passion in his life, writing. His books are always gripping and right to the point. Some of his books include Escape the Coming Night, The Power of Encouragement, What the Bible Says About Angels, Prayer The Great Adventure, which brought him The Gold Medallion Award in 1998, God In You, Gifts from God
David put so many interesting extras in this Bible that it takes much more time to read it through. He gave a lot of history of the people, as well as what was going on in the regions. I loved this Bible!
When I heard of this new study Bible last year while it was in the works, I said to myself, "Come on! Do we really need another study Bible?" I was expecting one similar to what we have seen in Evangelical circles over the last few years - an academic venture once again. Not that I have anything against the recent study Bibles - most are excellent! When it finally came out - as I attend the author's church in Southern California, I planned to finally purchase one after looking at it in Dr. Jeremiah's church's pavilion. After taking it home I was completely impressed! It is a new study Bible that has an identity and value all it's own - a true pastor/teacher's study Bible. His notes are highly valuable for study in all ways of preparing lessons. Also, it is the first Bible of any kind that I have seen use QR codes to obtain more information not contained in the study Bible itself. This includes articles and video sermons from Dr. Jeremiah. I use this Bible regularly for reading and study and know that I will for a long time. Dr. Jeremiah is dispensational and premillenial in his theology and eschatology, but that does not seem to dominate this study Bible and even those Evangelical or liturgically minded Christians will still benefit from this superb new study Bible!
This was my first time reading through the Bible in 3 months. I chose the Jeremiah Study Bible simply because my mom gave it to me recently and it was the first on my shelf. I loved it, although I didn't use much of the study helps. Mostly just read the Bible.
Very valuable for gaining a true understanding of everything in the Bible. This edition includes the New King James version of the original text as well as book introductions, study notes, a cross-reference system, online resources, sidebars, articles, a topical index and concordance. Occasionally during my daily readings, all of the extras became a little overwhelming, but I enjoyed the challenge of keeping up with it and further strengthening my faith. Since this is my second time reading the Bible from cover to cover, I chose to do it chronologically, which made for a unique experience; it was interesting to take a pause in the middle of Genesis to read Job and to jump back and forth between the events of David's life in the two books of Samuel to his writing in Psalms.
STOPPED READING AFTER THE INTRODUCTION TO GENESIS BECAUSE DR. JEREMIAH USED PHYSICAL WORLD SCIENCE TO PROVE THAT THE SPIRITUAL WORLD EXISTS. WHAT IS PHYSICAL DOES NOT DETERMINE WHAT IS SPIRITUAL (THE OPPOSITE IS ALWAYS THE CASE.)
THIS - IS A FOUNDATIONAL PROBLEM WITH JEREMIAH'S TEACHINGS. HE DOES NOT SEPARATE WHAT IS PHYSICAL FROM WHAT IS SPIRITUAL, THE END RESULT OF THIS IS: WHAT IS DEAD DETERMINES WHAT IS LIVING INSTEAD OF THE OPPOSITE.
INITIALLY - THIS IS APPEARS BENIGN, OVER TIME - EMBEDDING IT AS A PHILOSOPHY RESULTS IN PLACING THE DEVIL AS A REPLACEMENT FOR GOD (THE SAME AS BELIEVING THAT THE POPE IS THE ONLY TRUE REPRESENTATIVE OF CHRIST, AND THAT HIS CHURCH IS THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN FORGIVE SINS.) ALTHOUGH WITH MORE NEBULOUS CONCEPTS RELATED TO SCIENCE, GOVERNMENT, AND OTHER WORLDLY/FLESHLY THINGS WHEN JEREMIAH DOES IT.
THIS PROBLEM - USING THE FLESH TO JUSTIFY AND EXPLAIN GOD - IS INHERENT IN THE BAPTIST MINISTRY, AND IT CONFLICTS DIRECTLY WITH THE EXISTENCE OF PROTESTANT CHRISTIANITY.
AN EXAMPLE IN RELATION TO DR. JEREMIAH'S USE OF SCIENCE TO EXPLAIN GENESIS AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS STUDY BIBLE.
1. ENTROPY AND GRAVITY CANNOT COEXIST AS THEORIES OR LAWS. ONE SAYS THAT MASS IS ATTRACTED TO LARGER BODIES OF MASS, THE OTHER SAYS MASS DISPERSES FROM AREAS OF HIGH CONCENTRATION TO AREAS OF LOW CONCENTRATION. GRAVITY AND ENTROPY ARE AT ODDS WITH EACH-OTHER. 2. USING PLACEHOLDERS FOR UNSOLVED EQUATIONS DOES NOT REINFORCE THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD - IT CREATES GLARING HOLES. 3. SCIENCE THAT HAS GLARING HOLES, HOLES THAT WE HAVE TO PRETEND ARE CONSTANTS IN ORDER TO PREOCCUPY OURSELVES WITH MATH, PROVES FAR LESS THAN IT COULD AND FRANKLY - IS TOO FAULTY TO RELY ON FOR REAL WORLD APPLICATIONS. THEREFORE - SCIENCE IS NOT DENIED, IT IS SIMPLY PERFORMED POORLY AND THEN MASKED AS RELIABLE. 4. AS SUCH - USING SCIENCE TO JUSTIFY RELIGION EQUATES TO USING LIES TO PROVE THAT GOD EXISTS. A SIMPLER WAY TO SUMMARIZE THIS IS: WHAT IS PHYSICAL CANNOT BE USED TO PROVE WHAT IS SPIRITUAL AND INFINITE (OUTSIDE OF JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF -FULLY MAN, AND FULLY GOD.)
CONCLUSION: DO NOT USE SCIENCE TO PROVE GOD EXISTS, THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE. FAITH REQUIRES FAITH, NOT SCIENCE. THAT IS WHY IT IS CALLED "FAITH."
MORE SIMPLY - DO NOT RELY ON THOSE WHO DO.
A MORE COMPLEX SUMMARY OF A VARIETY OF PROBLEMS WITH THIS STUDY BIBLE IS FOUND WITH "THE BOOK OF CONCORD" AS THEY ARE FUNDAMENTAL DIFFERENCES WITHIN PROTESTANT SECTS. ALTHOUGH THIS PARTICULAR EXAMPLE DOES NOT REQUIRE OTHER REFERENCES.
Of course, I love the Word of God; I found a lot icDr. Jeremiah's comments insightful and challenging. He has a great way of explaining difficult passages of Scripture in a way that make it easy to understand and apply to my life. One of my favourites I read today, "If we are armed with truth,we need not fear." Love that, especially in these uncertain post modern times.
The Bible is the best book ever written because it is God's Word to humanity. It shows mankind's need for a Savior, and how Jesus fulfills that role. The study notes written and prepared by Dr. David Jeremiah are well-researched and provide a helpful companion to understanding the Bible.
I have the NIV translation of this Bible and it's been such a blessing and help during my Devotion Time. Rich with charts, maps, lists (i.e. prophetic events that have already been fulfilled, miracles performed by Christ, etc.) as well as a concordance are included. The large print Bible is large but is a delight to read for those whose eyesight is a problem. In our home, we have several different Bible translations but this one has become my favorite.
This is the book I base my life on. Have read it many times and will continue to read and study it. I found many new things in this past years read through. I love that about rereading it.
