A history of the earliest years of the Catholic faith from the Resurrection until the 7th century, it is a wonderful story of how the Faith developed from persecution by the Roman Empire and eventually becoming victorious. The accounts of the Catholic Church's earliest saints and martyrs are particulary inspiring and the colorful illustrations in the book are simple but powerful.

After Jesus follows the Reader’s Digest book Jesus and His Times, which I read many many years ago. Had I attempted to read this book back then I don’t think I would have appreciated it like I do now.

This wove together religious and general history to get a fuller picture of the past. Too often history ignores the religious elements despite that faith spurred much of the motivation behind many events. I don’t see how one can accurately portray history without it. I enjoyed seeing the many relics and illustrations included.

I’m glad I ended up with this book years ago. It might have taken me two decades to read it, and almost three years to finish it, but it was totally worth the venture.

Interesting overview of history of early Christianity. I marked a handful of women that I've never heard of, to learn more.

[I didn't read the whole book.] This book includes an interesting tidbit from Acts that explains why the early Christians (who were Jews) gave up being kosher, which enabled the spread of their faith to the gentile world. While praying on a roof Peter had a vision of all kinds of animals falling from the sky, and he heard a voice saying "Rise, Peter, kill and eat." He replied that these animals were uncommon and unclean, but the voice said: "What God has cleaned, you must not call common."

This is a really beautiful book, with clear writing and vivid illustrations. I'm not really into the material, but it looks like a great book for people who are.

The timeline of the text jumps around a bit, but was very informative. Great pictures - love the historical artifacts!
