Eve is a USA Today Bestselling Author with a specialty for steamy romance with strong female leads.
She lives in the UK, with her husband and five kids, so finding the time to write is short, but definitely sweet. Eve has a number of series, both completed and on the go and hopes to release some new and exciting projects, both paranormal and contemporary in the future, so stay tuned!
I loved this book. I downloaded it yesterday and already finished it! It is an original vampire story with a shed load of sex, but good sex, which drives the story forward as you learn things during these intimate moments. There is a strong story here definitely. I like the female lead, she is quite narcissistic - but in a good way, almost amusingly so. This is a wonderful world of fantasy and is light hearted, fun read not to be taken too seriously. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. To sum up this book is sinful and wickedly exciting. Forever is a real find so do yourself a favour and read this book!
I really enjoyed this first book of the series. It is a modern day Vampire story with an historic twist which makes for a good read. The story was interesting and it kept my attention to the end and definitely makes you want to read the next one to find out what happens. A good introduction to Liv’s world with lots of room for a good story. Lots of steamy sex but the story is just so much more than that.
I love stories about vampires and it's been so long since I read one and seeing this offered for free I decided to read it even when the blurb wasn't that good.
Turns out, the story isn't that good either. It is very superficial story-telling. Characters have no deep characteristics and no real conflicts.
The main heroine, Liv, is a thousand years old Vampire. She is also a billionaire and owns a big company. In her whole long life she's been doing a lot of gory stuff. Reveling in being a vampire. You'd think she'd feel remorse, she does but it's not really enough. She is turned by her sire and one of the original three vampires, Constantine. He's not really an ideal sire and because she's second in Vampire hierarchy, she turns the new guy Devon five centuries later, and now he's her BFF with benefits. Now she meets fresh-blooded human Cole O'Dell, and she decides he's her soulmate.
The idea of a woman dating three guys at the same time is repulsing. Above that, the woman is so self-absorbed and so inconsistent. The love interest Cole (I keep typing his name as Cold XD), is a robot saying and acting according to how the heroine likes. The writer didn't put that much conflict in their relationship. For example, The writer sadly failed to write them in a real way.
But it's not all bad. I find the writer has great ability with her emotional scenes. Especially in the flashbacks, . And how I wished it was so much better than this. The writer has it but she isn't using these emotional conflicts enough.
Devon is a character i liked then hated then liked a bit. And I found that he was written in a better way than the others.
I received this book from The Modern Good Reads Group in exchange for an honest review.
Stars: 4
Overall: What's a girl to do with 2 men and a beautifully rich long life? Add another man to the mix and fall in love with him. Oh what's a girl to do? This was the first vampire book where i read it in the female's perspective and really enjoyed it. I did have a few moments of WTF are you thinking, but i'm guessing what all the future books in the series, that things will be fully explained, hopefully in good detail. I did have a little problem in the beginning with all the emotions and trying to figure the characters out, about 25% in the book starts getting good and the ending leaves you hanging on, wanting more. I can't wait to see my hangs on the next book, Good Job Ms. Newton.
I wasn't sure about this book at first, but what really drew me in we're the flashbacks. I found the book to be well written and I didn't catch too many errors. I'm not one for giving spoilers away in reviews or spitting out my version of a synopsis. When I read a review I just want to know...did you like the book or not and my answer to this question is - yes. Without giving if away, I like what Liv can do, her special power. I found it very unique as I've never read of a vampire who can do this before. If you like vampire books and erotic books, this one is for you. The sex was a bit much for me at times which is why I didn't give it a 5.
Really loved this book. Great start to a series. A lot of back story to get you up to speed with the Vampire world created for these books. The writing is brilliant. Very funny at times and down right hot, hot, hot! The past flashbacks are great and you get a feel for what the characters are like. A super storyline starts off and I can't wait to find out how it all plays out. Definitely recommend for a nice easy red with lots of steam!
Liv Nelson has it all. A terrific job, a great wardrobe, a hot charge, and a gorgeous sire. Even with everything a thousand year old vampire could want, she still isn't very happy. Until she meets an actor named Cole and she falls in love with him hard. Liv has to keep all the men in her life satisfied and that's no easy job. It doesn't help that there's an ancient prophecy looming over her head either. Will Liv choose to avoid the prophecy or follow her heart?
At first, I wasn't pulled into the book. There was a lot of telling, but the characters were entertaining and so I kept on. I'm very happy I did. I loved hearing about Liv's history and the vampire mythology created for this world. It's rich and filled with mystery. The characters are dynamic and most certainly alluring. The men in Liv's life are sexy and enchanting. Oh what I'd give to be in her very expensive shoes!
There's an interesting plot, and an even more fascinating background story with the prophecy and Council that this first book in the series only touches upon. For the romance lovers, there are deep and complicated relationships. Plus a lot of hot and steamy scenes!
I definitely will continue reading on with this series. Well done, Eve Newton!
This book was full of cliches, everyone was beautiful, perfect, smart, and wealthy. There was no drama and no real flaws in the characters, or danger for them. It was all so pointless with not so sexy sex every few pages. I started to skim through it towards the end. I am glad this was free and I will NOT be reading the rest of the books in the series.
This book was classy & sexy. Heavy on the SEX...y. (She's a bit promiscuous, but she's a vamp after all ;) Also, heavy on the supernatural powers/abilities. I have a feeling in this book it was more if an intro to them & in the next installments will be put to good use? Series seems to have a lot of potential with the wide-variety story line. There is a lot going on, even with it being only 9 chapters. K...pluses: ~ 1st book was free (when I got it) ~ all books are out now Now...minuses ~ books are approx 10 chaps @ $6 a pop :( ~ gotta squeeze in one tiny thing that bugs me IMO...creepy insta-love. Maybe there is significance to it? (benefit of the doubt...)
DID purchase bk 2 cause bk 1 had a damn cliffy...*sucking-on-a-lemon sour face*
I find first books in series are very often about getting the reader up to speed with the characters and their world. This is no different and while I rarely give 5 stars for a first book, this one deserves it hands down. It is original, it is hot, the story is fantastic, the sex scenes are great and the characters have depth which you can see is going to develop in the coming books. Definitely not one to miss!
Good introduction to the series. Lots of background info and wonderful flashbacks to fill the reader in on a thousand years worth of history! Great ending which makes you have to pick up book 2 right away.
For the first book in a new series this was pretty good. There was a nice mix of back story, current storyline and character development. It definitely falls into the Erotica genre as well as Paranormal, so most definitely only for adults. I would recommend this book as a quick, fun read.
~I have read the series up to book 8 (the latest at time of writing) so far and I give them all 5 stars~
The first book starts off with the usual background information required for the start of a series. It is very informative and you get a great feel for the characters and their motivations. While this is a first person POV from the female leads perspective, this does eventually grow into the other characters in book 8 to the end of the series (I believe). So, the information you get on the other characters, namely Devon and Constantine (as the two other vampires in the first book), is gained through the insightful flashbacks to Aefre\Elizabeth's past. These are crucial to the story because you find out how they became vampires, how they met, how they felt about each other and you see how these feelings have not only survived the five hundred and a thousand years, respectively, but intensified over the centuries. It is interesting to see how much the character of "Liv" has changed over the centuries, depending on which role she is in: charge or sire. My absolute favorite scene in the first book is the flashback to 17th century Versailles when CK and Devon met for the first time. You gain a lot reading this scene about the differences in vampire relationships.
Having read the series up to the latest book (can't wait for no. 9!), I truly believe that the character of Cole is "secondary". I don't know how else to describe him. He is there to cause the problems between Aefre and her sire and her charge, not to mention he is the unlucky one that causes the prophecy to kick into gear. The second book is where all the action takes off and what a ride. You gain more insight into the characters with the continuing flashbacks and you start to find out what is really going on.
I don't want to give too much away with regard to the story, but as it spans out over the series it gets deeper and darker and the characters get stronger and you definitely end up on a side. Although that side may change from book to book as Newton has a wild imagination and nothing is off limits. Exactly what a fantasy world should be about!
They are fantastic page turners with endings that make you have to get the next one to find out what happens next. I understand it is the author's intent to finish the series at book 12 and I will have to say I will be sad to see it end. I want it to go on and on and to see what other surprises are in store!
The 7.5 spin-off book, which takes you into one of the alternate worlds, while not crucial to the main series, is definitely worth reading as you can see the differences between the two "Aefre's" and what could possibly have happened to "our" Aefre had things gone differently for her. I wonder if the author will do one for Other Liv? Now that would be interesting! What a bitch, lol.
I definitely recommend this series to lovers of Paranormal Erotica, who don't take their books too seriously and who like to escape into a book\series and the goings on in a different world.
Really enjoyed this book. Love a bit of Vamp erotica and this book delivers in spades. However, the story is interesting as well which just makes it better. I like the Forever vampire world, things are explained really well in this first book so you know exactly what's going on. There are so many vampire worlds out there it's hard to keep track! It's nice when the author gives a gentle prod to remind you but it isn't every two pages like in some books. PRO's: Vampire series, so far six books out and I think a seventh is coming so can get stuck in Well written and well explained Properly edited (A BIG MUST!) Good sex scenes that have meaning instead of just being there for the sake of it Good story arc Cliff hanger ending - I love cliffy's IF I love the book :-)
Cons: Too short (144 Kindle) Perfectly adequate for a novel, I just would have liked this book to never end ;-) lol
I finished this book in one day and I am already half way through book 2! What an amazing vampire story. Yes, it is heavy on the sex, but the story that backs it is intense, intriguing, emotional and gripping. Every scene has a deeper meaning to it. It is very well written. I was surprised for a freebie, but so glad I got this book. I think this is going to be a fantastic new vampire series to get my teeth into.
What a read! This author has thought up a brilliant story, with brilliant characters. It is completely fun & fantastical and a perfectly easy read with humor & wit. Liv's life and attitude is totally fanciful and decadent and I can't wait to see what happens next. What a remarkable find.
Loved! If you love PNR with Kick this book is for you. What a character Liv is! Smart, strong, sexy and sassy. Can't wait to see where this goes. Nice to finally have a book from female first person perspective that is fun and easy to read and where the character is likable and just plain awesome!
One of the best books I've read this year. The characters were fun, the story was interesting, the sex scenes were good. An excellently put together first novel for a new series. Highly recommend. I will DEFINITELY be reading the rest of this series.
Loved it from the first word :-) Was a refreshing change to read a British author writing in British style. It's a shame when it's all "Americanised" cos hello......... Us Brits also read... You can definitely tell the difference and I love it. Liv is British and she thinks and speaks as British people do. The author portrayed this excellently while giving her American characters their own style. Hope this continues with the rest of the series as I can't wait to read the rest of the books, and I hope that the author keeps her unique writing style as it is beyond awesome. Will DEFINITELY be reading not only the rest of this series but anything else by Eve Newton
I received this book from the author through PR&ATR in exchange for an honest review.
I am a HUGE paranormal romance fan… and especially vampires ...mmMMMmmmMMMmmm... So when I got the chance to read this book I jumped RIGHT into it as soon as I had time!! I LOVED this book…. Ok, so the sex scenes could have been a bit more…. Developed… But Liv was a very vivid and outspoken character I tell ya!! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that likes 50 shades of Grey or True Blood then they will LOVE this little bitty..
Well colour me surprised. I wasn’t expecting a whole lot from this book, the cover, the short length, these things don’t always correlate with good reads, I’m not judging books by their covers, this is my experience talking, but this was... highly enjoyable. I loved the format, the little glimpses into her past were so juicy & the three different relationships she has with the men in her life are each so different & well written. I know there is so much more to know about Liv & CK’s past & I cant wait to see how Cole reacts to learning everything that she’s hidden from him.
I did enjoy this first book to the series. It's different and imaginative. I like that this is female first person POV and she seems to be the alpha (for the most part). Hopefully we will see more of this in future books, as this seems to be where the storyline is headed. It's quite racy in parts but nicely written. A fun, easy, totally outrageous read and I will definitely read the second one.
I did not finish this book. I love a good romance novel, But there is such a thing as too much detail. This book definitely had too much for my taste. That and the fact that it didn't hook me in by the second chapter to make me want to keep reading despite what I didn't like so I stopped reading. I'm not saying this is a bad book it just simply wasn't for me.
What a great book! First in series of adult vampire story. I loved it. Really good characters, strong and likeable. 1st person narrative from female lead, really novel. Do yourself a favor and read this!
I liked the modern aspect of the vampire. It was also great that the author went back in time to tell you about the life and times of Liv "the Vampire".
