Rediscover the Four Ancient Methods of Bible study... Did you realize that Jesus' style of teaching was fundamentally different from contemporary Christian Bible study? Yet, the means by which Jesus understood and unpacked the scriptures are completely relevant today. More than that, His rabbinical style of communication, comprised of four levels, is essential for engaging believers and non-believers alike. By transferring the four lost methods of study into a modern format, Pais Global Director Paul Gibbs developed what has become known as Haverim DevotionsTM. This fresh approach to the ancient way is now occurring in small groups around the world, connecting people to God through His Word...and helping them connect others. Delving into the why, what, and how of each level, this book equips you to launch your own group study using Haverim DevotionsTM. This is not a list of steps to execute, but an invitation to come and experience. This is not a presentation tool, but a participation tool. This is not about providing the right answers, but provoking the right questions. This is not about consuming knowledge, but connecting with others to share it. It is, as the ancient Hebrews once referred to it...Haverim.

In today's culture bible study has resulted to a method and technique where we have the participants fill in the gaps or learn about our own pre made discoveries. Haverim turns this on its head. It provides 4 very clear ways to approach the bible with one question central to any study. What is in God's heart? Some methods are similar to a more traditional approach, such as searching the bible for context and using additional tools to understand its historical context and meaning of key words and phrases. Others add a creative and participatory approach that is missing from other books and teaching.
On top of this, Haverim provides the reader with an understanding of what it takes to lead a small group in a way that not only searches out the bible but puts it into practice. In a day and age where those who read the bible often do so for knowledge, this forces the reader to be proactive in asking the question: Now I understand God's heart, what next?
I highly recommend this for any church leader, youth pastor or volunteer as well as anyone who wants to learn how to better approach their bible study so that it is filled with life, rather than a stale I've read this before feeling.
Some really good stuff in here but at times everything felt very random, disjointed and hard to follow. I'd give it five stars for content and three for layout/organization.
