Play of the Month: November 2024

Incredibly quick read! I need to read more two act plays, and definitely need to read more dramatic comedies.

When reading this play, one of the ONLY thing I could think of was the television show The Honeymooners from 1955. Thomas just exuded Jackie Gleason's mannerisms as Ralph. I felt like I was watching an alternate universe where Ralph is blind and he meets Alice in 1975 when she shows up to his apartment as a caretaker. Of course, that makes Lou Ed, albeit Lou is a lot more crude.

Anyway yeah this was fun and also really heartwarming. There were definitely times where I cringed, specifically when the men were talking about women, but I know it's a sign of the times and also important to Lou's character. Still, yuck. Edna was the real star of the show here of course, both of her monologues moved me.
