Winter is book two in the Dog Days series by Sierra Dean. I have been so excited for this book to come out because the first book, Autumn, ended in a huge cliff hanger. And I was not disappointed.
Winter starts out exactly where Autumn left off. Lou has been rushed to the hospital following the huge explosion at the library. Cooper goes there hoping to see her but they won’t let him in. He is hoping the memory loss is only temporary, that as soon as he can talk to Lou, she will remember him. As time goes on, he realizes she isn’t getting her memory back. Could it be possible that her memory loss is not from the accident but from some other source?
Lou is fine, physically that is. But she keeps feeling like she lost something. But what is it? When she goes back to school and sits next to her lab partner in chemistry class, it seems like there is something familiar about this boy, Cooper. He acts like he knows her but she can’t remember him. What is wrong with her? And the most popular boy in school who is also the football team’s quarterback, Archer Wyatt, is paying a lot of attention to her. Something about him makes her feel uneasy and anxious but when he touches her, she feels calmer. What in the world is going on?
Cooper needs Lou to remember him, to remember their love for each other. Also, Lou was supposed to help him to find a way to break the curse, the curse that will make him turn into a coyote when he turns 18. The same curse that took away his older brother when he turned 18. But it seems like everyone in town is trying to keep them apart. Cooper finds an unlikely ally in his little sister’s boyfriend, Max.
It seems like everyone is against Cooper and Lou. And the Wyatt family is definitely the evil doers in this story. I have a bit of mixed feelings towards Archer. I don’t think he is AS evil as his mother and older brother. But, he still does as he is told. He does seem to have some real feelings towards Lou but his loyalty is still to his family and the job he needs to do. And I think we haven’t seen anything yet as far as what evil that family is capable of. The older brother, Christoper, is back in town!
Lou is just beginning to realize what power she might be capable of but so far it has only shown itself in extreme cases of fear. But she has no one she can trust to teach her so she will have to learn on her own.
Cooper and Lou have so many obstacles ahead of them including a 200 year old murder mystery to solve. If they can solve the mystery, will this lift the curse that is on Cooper’s family? I can’t wait for the next book, Spring, to find out what is next for Cooper and Lou.

Autumn ended with an evil cliffhanger, and Winter took up right where Autumn ended, so you really you have to read them in order. It also has a cliffhanger, though not as nasty as the first book.
Autumn ended with a big explosion of the library, and Lou losing her memory of Cooper completely. Nothing else, just Cooper. At first Cooper thinks it is for the best, now she wont grieve for him when his curse hits him, but he misses her more than he thought possible. Finally having a friend, someone who talks to him, who likes him, and who has given him hope they will find a way out of this. All the adults seem to be happy that Lou has forgotten him, even his own mother.
But Lou can’t shake the feeling she is forgetting something important, and when her father’s ghost haunts her in the mirror again, she still doesn’t know what she is supposed to be doing. But when she finally is allowed to go to school again, she meets Cooper again, and is surprised that she has forgotten such a cute boy. And he seems to know more about her than she has ever shared before. Something is just not right.
Cooper is investigating the past on his own now trying to find out what happened to start the curse. But he needs to get Lou her memory back, and gets help from his sister Mia’s boyfriend Max. And it works! But Archer feels that his magic is not strong enough to keep Lou under his spell and accepting him as her new boyfriend. And so he calls for help, to his big brother. After all, he dealt with Cooper’s brother very well before …
I loved this story! It is amazing, and original, and I loved how Lou fell for Cooper again, even though Archer was trying to influence her so much. It was hard to miss that much of her memory, but how it all came back was a great scene. I would like to know why Cooper’s mother does not want them together though, especially as her son has so little time left to enjoy his life. And I do wish Cooper would quit the football team where no one appreciates him. And I think it is time for Lou’s grandmother to tell what she knows about the curse. Archer’s family is way more involved than they let on to, and I just know they are the evil ones. Still, Sierra Dean has a knack of twisting a plot and a theory into something completely different and unforeseen. Which I love of course.
I like the interaction between Lou and her best friend Marnie, who really wants to see Lou in Archer’s arms. She is kind of brainless, but also really a sweetheart.
It was also fun to see Cooper reacting to working magic with his new friend, so sceptic, like the curse he is under is not magic too. And I loved how Max’s mother treated Cooper, so unlike his own mother, who is the local sheriff and working all the time.
I can’t wait to read the next book. If you do like paranormal Young Adult, without the angst and not really a love triangle (Lou knows who she wants!), go for this series, you won’t be sorry. Promise. I know this is a self published series, but it is good, and well edited. No irritating typo’s and mistakes and such.

This does not happen a lot, but..I liked book 2 better than book 1. Usually book 2 is where I go all sigh, but here. I devoured this one. It also felt, well more original, and it's own.
Lou does not remember Cooper. Cooper tries to stay away but loves her. *music of doom* Archer is trying to win Lou over and he is a handsome, but evil ass. His family are watching over the curse and arghhh *hates Archer and his family*. Just let them be!!!
Most of the book is Lou going on with her life, Cooper wanting her to remember and pieces falling into place. I learned more about the curse and then, then I turned the page and the book ended. That is the problem with ebooks, I did not brace myself for it. And it came, I was shocked and I wanted more.
A YA series that got even better. A forbidden romance (those are the best), a curse that needs to be broken and just lots of good stuff.

Winter is a good book and I'm really looking forward to the next book in the series, Spring. This is the second book in the Dog Days series. What do you do when the person you are in love with and the person that gave you hope is made to forget you?! Cooper knows he should probably just let Lou go and let her be free, but he just can't. Before she came around, he really didn't have any hope and didn't know real love. He cannot stay away from her. Eloise or "Lou" feels like she has forgot something but she cannot put her finger on what it is. She keeps trying to figure out what happened with the library and what it is she's missing.
This series is really good and you keep finding out more and more about the curse, why things are happening, and what happened in the past.

I like the development of this series; a very enjoyable paranormal YA, and coming from Sierra Dean it's done just right. Autumn was good, but Winter is even better. If you are a fan of Caster Chronices by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl or Brightest Kind of Darkness series by P.T. Michelle, this blend of magic and mystery is right up your alley.

It's been a while since I read book 1 and I'm so so so glad I have the next books in the series queued up so I can find out how things turn out because...HOT DAMN, THINGS ARE HAPPENING. Thiiiiiiiings!
Like Lou's loss of memory about all things Cooper. As an aside, Archer is an awful person and he's going to have to do a whole lot of groveling to make things right after what he did and allowed to happen. As of right now, I'm not seeing much chance for redemption in him. Actually, I don't see much in his entire family. The Wyatts are bad and all the things they done just have to come back to bite them in the butt at some point.
But let's get back to Lou and Cooper. With Lou's memory on the fritz, they reset to how things had been when Lou first moved to town. Except Lou has the nagging feeling she's forgotten something important. You know, something like a cursed boy who's come to mean far more to her than she ever expected.
Things are heating up in Poisonfoot and Spring is coming on soon.

Today I have a book, which I got from the author as a gift, a long time ago, and, unfortunately, it’s only now that I’m reviewing it. But there are some good news with it, as this Friday the review of the book 3rd book will go live. However, when the 4th book will come into my possession is still a mystery. But that’s not the case here, correct? But before I move on to the actual review, if you’re new to this series, you can check my review for Autumn – the first book in the series here! And don't be shy share your thoughts with me!
Now, getting back to the review. I loved the book. it was more intense and I never got a chance to even compare it to something else, as I stayed focused on it till the end. As you remember (and if you’re new to series, I apologize for a major spoiler) we were left with a major cliffhanger – Lou losing her memories of Cooper, plus some awesome abilities showcased. So what does Cooper to return her memories of him? In the beginning, he just mopes around having a pity party. But in the end he does come up with a great plan, well involvement o some new characters helps too. But cooper is not the only one who’s trying to return Lou’s memories. The girl has it tough too, and I really enjoyed her character in the book. The description of not being whole because she was missing something is fantastic. Instead of shouting at her to open her eyes or mind you just can’t not feel sympathy towards her. You understand her and you try to help, but you can’t and it sucks full time.
However, nothing is as easy as it seems, as more secrets need to be unraveled and some make your heart pound even after you close the book. The killer is finally narrowed down to a family and not a good kind of family, but just before Cooper and Max find some real info on it a formidable enemy comes back into town. And he takes his job very seriously, series enough to kill an innocent using another innocent. Who’s that? That’s for you to find out. I’m not spoiling this!

I so felt for Cooper but was glad he fought and didn’t give in. Even as Archer and Lou got close Cooper didn’t give up.
the story picks up where Autumn left off. Cooper is counting down the days until he turns, he is in love with Lou and is hopeful she can save him. Lou doesn’t remember him though. Now Lou and Archer are close and Cooper needs to find a way to get Lou to remember.
The story is really intriguing. Cooper has everyone against him and Lou and making him feel he should give in but he doesn’t. He knows something is up. So he turns to someone for help. This gains him another friend and has him see what he missed. He missed having people by his side. He missed having people to talk to and care for. People who weren’t family.
Archer at first I didn’t like him for what he was doing but as you get to see him for him you realize that he is under pressure. Not only is his mother and brother hovering and berating him but he truly believes what he is doing is for good. That he is protecting people and doing what is right.He believed he was being selfless.
Winter has you feeling more and seeing the characters grow. Cooper grew with hope and love. His sister grew in acceptance. Lou began to become stronger and fight more against others. Her grandma was growing in her stubbornness.
The plot is getting heavier and drawing you in more as the story unfolds. Cooper changes and begins to fight what is happening to him and believing in someone and love. Archer is realizing some things as well. When the book ends you are happy for Cooper and Lou but feel bad for Archer. You also see a new ally for Cooper and Lou.

I found this one moved a little slower for me compared to the first. This is in part because most of the book revolves around Lou trying to regain the memories that the reader is already aware of from the first book, which can’t help being repetitive. That being said, Dean does a very good job still keeping your attention throughout the story.
I am definitely eager to see the next installment of the series now that it seems all the characters are clear on where everyone stands. I’m not sure how things are going to work out, but I’m still rooting for Lou & Cooper.
Who should read it? Paranormal fans looking for something slightly different.

Aw, man. I don't even know how to explain why I'm continuing to read this series other than the fact that I like the MCs very much. This whole book was about Lou getting her memories back, the ones Archer stole in book one. Literally, the whole thing!! It felt like nothing happened, no plot advancement or character development...nothing. Why then do I want to read the other two books?
It's a very good YA for young readers. I can see 7th or 8th graders reading and loving these books. I would recommend them to a very young audience that is expecting something fun and easy.

I'm interested in this story and these characters. I want to know what happens and how everything wraps up. That being said, this book wasn't the greatest for me. The majority of this book was spent trying to relearn all the things we learned in the last book. While one of the characters didn't remember anything, the reader still did, so it ended up feeling like a whole lot of filler.
