Well, I am the Book Lover and the Cat Lady so I dived into this book with much excitement! It got better! Such a STUNNING book, presented with gorgeous photographs of each cat alongside a letter from their human slave (owner) to those special cats.

The book features famous people and their feline friends, it has special cats, cats with disabilities, cats that overcame horrendous things, rescue cats, pedigree cats. There are therapy cats, blind cats, hairless cats, fluffy cats. BUT all in all, much loved cats. Cats everywhere!

Purrrrfection!

The letters are both funny at times and also some of them choked me up with emotion as a cat lover. This book is a follow on to the hit book A Letter to My Dog and will appeal to ANYONE who is a cat lover, would make a truly wonderful gift book or just something to relish time and time again.

So, in theme with everyone in the book that wrote letters to their cats, here is mine, to my feline babies.

Dear Riley and Toddy,

Riley, I picked you when you were just 8 weeks old and bounced around the room refusing to slow down. I had to wait such a long wait until you were 12 weeks old and could leave your Mummy Cat. You came home for Christmas.

You came into my life at a difficult time and gave me so many cuddles and much love. I adore the way you try to groom my hair at night (does it need a wash?) and the gentle pats on my back if I turn away from you when sleeping. How you manage to take up most of the bed so I am hanging off the edge of it is beyond me, you are not that big my Riley!

I don't like the way you know what annoys me at 5am, like scratching on my wicker chair in the bedroom and walking on the headboard behind my head because you are hungry and want breakfast NOW. When I don't give in you bounce on my head like it's a trampoline (ouch, it's not) but I get up, you purr and weave between my legs as your human slave stumbles with half closed eyes to the kitchen to feed you, my Riley. I adore you. Only one year old and many more to come.

Toddy, I adopted you two months ago, like Riley you are also a stunning lilac Burmese pedigree cat, but SO different from Riley. You are the king of the headbutt love, you can headbutt each member of the family in the face for hours at a time, purring, headbutts, purring, headbutts. It's so beautiful, it makes us happy.

I love the way you eat like you are starving and we never feed you (and try to steal some out of Riley's bowl), we cannot have you in the kitchen if we are preparing cooked chicken, you are the world's fastest chicken stealer EVER.

We adopted you from a home where you were alone all day and were not sleeping as you should sprawled across the bed with the human slaves, you were sad and lonely. I brought you home and you and Riley became the best of buddies after only two days of a bit of hissing and growling (mostly from you) now I love to see the two of you play and be happy with another feline friend to love.

I love the way you do a roly-poly on the bathmat when I brush my teeth in the morning, like we are training for an Olympic sport together and your meows can be heard across town when I am one minute late with your dinner (starving again, you guzzle guts). Bad human mummy!

Toddy, Riley - you bring much laughter, love and joy to our home. From your pink paw pads to your little cute wet noses, I adore all of you (except maybe the litter tray part). I love you to the moon and back.

Mummy

These letters to beloved cats by their doting guardians – both famous and ordinary, young and old, from veterinarians to erstwhile dog lovers – are mostly what you would expect: sweet, heartfelt, and tender. However, there are a few really special letters to some very extraordinary cats tucked in here as well; I'd rather not give away any spoilers, but there are hero kitties; brave, disabled kitties; mutt kitties and kitties of exotic breeds; and one very famous psychic space alien kitty.

If I was evaluating just the text, I would probably only recommend this as a library checkout. However, there are some really exquisite pictures here, and the printing is very high-quality. For cat photography aficionados, this is probably a great choice to add to your collection!

A short book at 153 pages, this is filled with beautiful pictures of people's cats. Each cat has a page with a letter written by it's owner. The letters can be about anything....how the cat came into their lives, the funny things they do, how much the owners love them. Some of them are owned by celebrities, others just ordinary people.

Absolutely darling book. Heartfelt and lovely on each page. If you love cats, or call yourself a cat-lady or cat-mom or cat-dad, you'd likely love this sweet book.

If you're a cat lover and/or a cat owner then this book is probably going to warm your wee cockles. It might make you smile, laugh or perhaps even shed a tear.

This book is a conversation between cats and their owners. An ode to their feline friends, a moment to reflect upon their favourite memories, why they love them and what makes them so special.

It features letters from Rosanna Arquette and Luna, Anne Marie Avey and Colonel Meow, Tony Azevedo and Snow, Ellie Barancik and Francis & Ollie.

Now, cat owners quickly come to the realisation that the cats are running the show. They own their humans and not the other way round.

They are like miniature lions with the attitude of an Egyptian Pharaoh. Their independent nature is what makes them both lovable and exasperating.

The book is what I would call a coffee table book (obviously in hardcover). A visual treat for readers. It is the perfect gift for animal lovers. The photographs are absolutely adorable and certainly do these beautiful creatures plenty of justice.

Bellissimo libro, imperdibile.

I requested this book purely because it is about cats. I love reading stories about how they've brightened the lives of their families or overcome terrible odds. I love cats and will read just about anything about them. I could probably fall very easily into 'crazy cat lady' territory.

While I can understand the passing fancy to write your cat a letter (because letter writing is fun!) I just can't bring myself to give this book a very high rating. Because while there are some very touching stories, most of them are just...too sweet and fluffy. That's fine, but it's similar to listening to a stranger talk for hours about their uber-cute children. You don't know these people and the cuteness factor wears off pretty quick. Eventually you just want them to shut up and leave you be.

What I did love was the photographs of the cats. Most of the cats are absolutely stunning. The pictures alone are worth it.

There was one letter that made me sit in silence for a moment just because of how beautiful it was. It was by a US Army Staff Sargent who rescued a cat from Afghanistan who was being abused repeatedly. He snuck his new friend into the Army base, even though it was against the rules. Not long after, several of the soldier's platoon mates were killed by a bomber. His cat, Koshka, kept him from suicide and gave him hope for the future.

There are a lot of wonderful letters and the book gives a nice glimpse into the lives of other cat lovers. It's worth reading if you like a lot of very sweet, sappy letters and a few deep ones, along with some beautiful photographs.

A must-read for any cat/pet/animal lover. I loved that most of the stories were rescues (yes, I do judge those who buy bred animals) and I cried my way through several stories, and proceeded to go read the best letters to my girlfriend. I look forward to reading the dog version!

A Letter To My Cat, edited by Lisa Erspamer, collects letters by the famous and the not-so-famous, all of whom are the caretakers to extraordinary cats. Among the cats is Lil Bub, who is famous just for being the most adorable thing ever.

Bub was the runt of her litter and has some birth defects, but she is still a being of pure sweetness and light. Then there's Matilda, the official cat of the Algonquin hotel. And Buddy, who saved his human Rick's life when Rick went into sudden cardiac arrest. Buddy wouldn't leave his mommy, Jennifer, alone until Jennifer checked on Rick, and she found Rick not breathing.

Cat can be heroes in lots of ways. Charlie is a certified therapy cat; children can read to him, and he listens and purrs in a totally non-judgmental way, helping them increase their reading confidence. Kinky Girl started life as a stray, but turned out to be the perfect cat for teaching kids to be kind to animals and for ministering to people in hospice. Burma helps her human, Stephen, recover from the psychological effects of being an Iraq War veteran - and inspires him to bring awareness to the issue of homeless veterans.

All the cats are good cats - even if they pee in the bag on the way to the office.

Some of the human caretakers who appear in this book include Rosanna Arquette, comedy writer Ellie Barancik, chef Anne Burrell, reality TV star Mayte Garcia, actress/author Gina Gershon, actress/mental health activist Mariel Hemingway (not really a "cat person," surprisingly, given her granddad Ernest's fondness for polydactyl felines), designer India Hicks, children's book author Nina Laden, (men's) NBA player Brook Lopez, 'Bridesmaids' actress Wendi McLendon-Covey, Dr. Mehmet Oz, rocker Joe Perry, Kimberly Schlapman of the country band Little Big Town, and 'True Blood' actress Kristin Bauer van Straten.

I loved this book. I’m allergic to cats so my cats have to stay outside. I like reading what I have missed out on by not having a cat in the house. With this book I have realized that the cats I get strays, may be the best cats ever. They hunt and give gifts, live as free as they care to. They show you love every time you go out of the house. The stray that I have now came here shortly after my cat Shorty died. She came and the neighbor and I are taking care of her. We found that she had a chip. The vet said her owner died and her family must not of wanted her. She just showed up here. So now she has two families who love her. They can not have her inside because of allergies also. She is a great hunter of chipmunks and mice. She keeps other cats from her terf. She is well loved.

I love cat's and dogs, though I've not had a pet dog in well over 10 years. I've always had cats, and everyone of them had his or her own personality. I really like this book and was amazed at how may cats picked out their owners. These letters where funny, heart warming, some heart wrenching,
I know have two cats bot female rescue cats, a black tiger named Mia, and a calico with one green eye and one blue named Sally. I also have living with me the ghost of one of my other cats, a black and white cat called Sammy Cat. Love them all.

I have always loved cats. There are very few times in my life that I have not had a cat. Right now, I have a black cat named Sir Pig. He is my world. He's just like a child to me. Therefore, I find the idea of people writing letters to their cats very interesting. As soon as I saw this book, I knew I had to read it.

A Letter to My Cat was heartwarming. I was reading it before I fell asleep in bed, and there were parts that I laughed so hard at, I almost woke up my husband. As a cat owner, I can definitely identify with the book because I've seen my cat do a lot of the silly things that the letter writers talk about. Stephen Simmon's story about finding the cat in Iraq was inspiring. It shows that cats truly can change lives.

The book was also heart breaking at times. Nina Laden wrote a letter to her cat Cali that made me bawl. Her cat was dying of cancer. I've went through the pain of losing a cat before, and it's one of the worst things imaginable. I couldn't imagine my life without Sir Pig being there every morning to wake me up with meowing and kitty kisses.

I loved this book. It makes me want to write a letter to my cat. That way, in the future I won't forget about the time we spent together and how much he impacted my life. I recommend this book to cat lovers everywhere.

I received this book for free from Blogging for Books for an honest review.
Review also appears on my blog.

As a cat lover and owner, the moment I saw this book I wanted to get my hands on it. The book itself is very pretty; it contains glossy pages with pictures of adorable cats and the letters that their owners wrote to them. The letters range from hilarious to heartwarming- I'll admit I teared up a few times thinking of my past fur babies while reading some of these notes. While it was an entertaining read, I see this as more of a gift you'd buy for your cat loving friends than a book you'd sit down to read seriously. I will admit that I'll most likely pick this up again to flip through my favorite letters and stare at the cute pictures before I pass it on to someone else. Overall this was a cute read with adorable cats and I'm glad to have read it.

OVERALL IMPRESSION: The concept of this book is amazing. I love cats (I have three) and I love reading letters people have written, so this is the perfect combination for me.

The introduction made me laugh out loud thinking about all of the similarities with my cats (and just as I was reading, I got the surprise of one of them jumping up onto the couch and landing right on the open pages of the book). I really enjoyed reading this. I can relate to so many things in this book. I also love the accompanying photographs.

This is a great coffee table book to just leave lying around to pick up and skim through when you're having a bad day or just need a pick-me-up.

COVER: The cover is great. The cat on the front is adorable and I like how they created an envelope with a cute little cat stamp on it.

My cats, Jaxon and Jonas were adopted or should I say adopted me 6 years ago. These letters written by cat owners tell the tales of how they came together. Some were written by celebrities. A nice read.

I don't normally write any kind of review but I just wanted to use this to tell a story. Maybe 4 years ago I volunteered at my church's garage/book sale, and bought this because I love cats. I put it on my bookshelf and forgot about it until today, the first day of coronacation/quarantine. I started reading and ok, no introduction, just straight into letters, cool. A few letters in, and there's the introduction. Interesting formatting but whatever. Then those same first few letters appear AGAIN later on. I also thought it was an odd choice to have all the photos in black and white, but again, whatever. I eventually look at the cover again and finally notice that across the top it reads "uncorrected proof - not for sale". That certainly explained it, and some of the missing bios I found at the end. I'll always wonder who gave it away to my church to be sold for a few dollars. I do wish I got to see all the pictures in color.

This is a book every cat lover should read. A collection of letters, sometimes funny, often touching, from cat-parents both famous and not to their furry housemates. Their love shines through in every page. It makes me want to write letters to my past cats. You'll want to do the same.
