A romantic comedy debut from #1 bestelling science fiction romance author Karissa Kinword! There are a few things Coconut Creek has that Pine Ridge does not. Palm trees, sandy beaches, butterfly museums-infuriatingly attractive special forces veterans. When Colorado elementary school teacher Ophelia Brody decides to ditch her divorced family for a Christmas in the sunshine state with her college roommate, she doesn't expect a mile high meet cute to tailspin the entire trip. Frankie Casado is cocky , he's presumptuous , he's shameless -and he's just the right distraction from her depressing, fruitless dating life back home for a few weeks. It just so happens the retired fighter pilot is in somewhat of a rut of his own, and the circumstances around their coincidental meeting and unavoidable physical attraction are the perfect excuse for a festive fling. The rules are Ophelia teaches him how to date again, and Frankie shows her exactly what she should be demanding behind closed doors. Friends with benefits until the ball drops in the New Year. But a little bit of long-lost Christmas magic just might find a way to stir up more than their complicated pasts.

SYNOPSIS
Ophelia heads to Coconut Creek in Florida to spend 3 weeks over Christmas and New Years with her bestie. BUT FATE HAS OTHER PLANS!!!! AND FATE IS A FREAK!!!
MY OPINION
This is one of those rare books where the vibes are so top-tier from the jump, I don't have one critical thought while reading. You could shove a red flag down my throat (pls don't) and I wouldn't blink. The plane scene????????? I was HOOKED. This book is funny from tip to taint (sorry).
Some quick notes:
1. This is VERY spicy. Extremely open doors. In fact, there aren't any doors most of the time unless you count a car door.
2. There is no third act breakup!!!!
3. Yes this is an insta-love situation; the whole shebang takes place over 21 days.
4. Don't bother reading the blurb; it makes it sound like something it's not. It's two hot people who come together to DO stuff .... and SAAAAYYYYYY stuff.
5. This is an age-gap romance. She's 26, he's 35. **shrugs**
6. He's ex-military. Don't knock smutty books because I did learn something new—now I know what Delta Force is (I think). AnYwAyS, I went to college in Hawaii so yes I'm familiar with the rumors that all military men want to get married within 3-5 business days of meeting and they drive trucks b/c they have small ding dongs. Frankie def comes on STRONG, but he has BDE (iykyk) and he's not that type of military guy. The entire time I was picturing Bradley Cooper from American Sniper (before the ptsd) meets younger Gerard Butler (let me have this one thanks).
7. Yes this takes place in Florida but there's no Florida Man vibes. The most Florida-y it gets is the random torrential downpour that occurs between 3-5pm everyday.
8. THE BANTER IS CHEFS KISS!!!! But I won't lie, it's definitely a lil toxic... but like, harmlessly toxic.
The only thing keeping this from a 5 is Ophelia's backstory felt a bit forced. Seemed like she needed something but it didn't really track. Like Meghan in Snowed In, I couldn't really get a grasp of her personality. Was she the demure Type A teacher, or the tequila-soaked seductress? I'm still not sure. Okay one more thing: I wish they had gone on more dates. I know this is already on the long side, but we needed MORE 1:1 romantic vibes.
I'm eagerly awaiting book #2!!!! If you're looking for a spicy, slightly toxic romcom with holiday cheer, this is THEE one. Also, if you've read this and liked it... may I recommend Only in Your Dreams? The spice gives similar energy...........👀👀👀👀
PROS AND CONS
Pros: absolutely hilarious, perfect banter, least scary spice I've encountered (lol), Frankie is the redemption military men needed, hooks you from the start, fantastic writing, great dialogue, solid vibes
Cons: we could've done without Ophelia's family drama — felt too forced, I wanted more dates like the butterfly garden, smol bean big boy trope :/
Frankie will go down in history as a top tier book boyfriend…
Ladies, let me tell you about my man Frankie. Retired helicopter pilot. Major Peter Pan syndrome. And a mouth… my lord.
📔 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼: Christmas In Coconut Creek by Karissa Kinword.
📚𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲: Opposites attract, plane meet-cute, age gap, dating practice, all of the pining.
📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Frankie and Ophelia meet on a flight from Colorado to Florida. What feels like fate keeps them connected after they land - Frankie is the roommate of Ophelia’s best friend’s boyfriend… and now they’re attached at the hip for the rest of her trip.
🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: This book felt like my best friend wrote it and gave it to me. It’s clear Karissa Kinword has a way with words, and I’m so down to see where this series goes.
This book might be an acquired taste for some, but it felt like it was made for my palette. Pop culture references and witty banter and my gosh the spice was written so well.
Whereas Ophelia was funny and relatable, Frankie was an epic MMC. His POV was part of the reason for the extra .5 stars. He’s so gone for Ophelia from the moment he meets her, it’s impossible to not fall for this fictional man.
Was it instalove? Yep - but most holiday books are. And this was a perfect way for me to kick off the season.
All the spice and holiday fun a girl could want in a romcom! Did I read this while Hallmark movies played in the background? | sure did! Did this make me blush and require me to turn down my a/ c, unlike any Hallmark movie ever will. Sure did!
l adored Ophelia and Frankie. Both had such big hearts and an even bigger sense of responsibility for their families. You know when two people are constantly used to putting themselves last meet, combustion is eminent. You just knew these two were inevitable from the moment they met (I loved their meet cute by the way!).
The relationships were sweet, but not corny, full of playful banter and hella spicy. There may or may not be a naughty Santa at some point. I laughed, I swooned and I pretty much read this book with a smile on my face which is exactly what I want out of my holiday romcoms.
“You’re very beautiful, you know that?” he said. I bit my lip. “This is a bad idea and we both know it.” “I’ve never seen a bad idea that looked this damn good.”
this one so flippin cute.
christmas in coconut creek follows ophelia and frankie, two people with less than stellar dating history and a ticking clock down to nye when she’ll go back home to colorado. after one the the funniest meet cutes, the two of them decide to have a friends with benefits situation until she’s set to go home.
the banter in this one is actually top tier. I was laughing out loud and so giddy whenever the two of the interacted. and frankie’s mouth? omfg. he is actually perfect.
my only real complaint is the length. it didn’t have to be nearly 450 pages 🫠 I was getting a little disengaged towards the end and just wanted to “conflict” to happen.
read if you like ✨ holiday rom coms ✨ friends with benefits ✨ hysterical banter ✨ he falls first and harder ✨ forced proximity
I wanted to love this book based on other reviews and recommendations, but I just didn’t. I feel like the author really talked about how responsible Ophelia was but I just couldn’t see it. I realize she was on vacation most of this book though. I didn’t really see the chemistry between her and Frankie, and they frustrated me more than anything. Frankie also talked big about how important his family was to him and how he took care of them, but hasn’t seen them in months? Also, 35 is not old and they made it sound like he was ancient.
Book is unnecessarily long and they are just doing nothing for most chapters!! They are friends with benefits apparently but didn’t have sex till 70 percent of the book🤷🏻♀️
Classic me, waited too long after reading to review and now I’m cloudy on the finer details. As my last read of 2024 and for making it go out with a bang, someday I’ll give this book the review it deserves.
For now, I’ll just say that if you’re looking for some heat in the winter holidays, this is the read you’re looking for. Immaculately extended tension that felt anything but drawn out. Essentially a slice of life contemporary romance featuring two characters with dynamic chemistry who fall in love during the holidays.
I need you all to stop for a second and grab this book. I MEAN IT. Thank me later!
No, but in all seriousness, this is so amazingly good! Reading until 5.45 am good. Trying—and failing, to pace yourself with the story so that you can prolong the pleasure, good. I was never great with delayed gratification anyway! I'm all about the splurge.
You know how in contemporary romance we expect great banter and palpable chemistry between main characters? This is IT.
Look—I've read great banter over the course of my romance reader life (3000 books and counting) but I can't truly recall one time it was as lively, playful, authentic and just FLOWING. Rare are the times an author can make me forget that I'm standing behind the looking glass. Karissa Kinword is a witch?
This is a fun and hella sexy holiday romance. Their meet-cute on a plane is hilarious and full of anticipation. I couldn't stop reading past this point. MMC has a dirty mouth on him and MFC is only too eager to raise up to the challenge. This isn't exactly a slow burn, or is it a HOT slow burn? There's just a lot of tension and anticipation between Ophelia and Frankie and I swear you can feeeeel it! 😅🤌🏼🔥
P.S. I'm not even done yet (47%) but I already know I want to read about the secondary cast fo characters, Natalia and Mateo summoning demons 🫣👀 (I believe a second book is coming!). I may need a nap today. reading until 5.45am, I'm not in my 30s anymore! 😆
(giving credit where it's due, Amanda posted about it yesterday, I'm so thankful for it, doing my part sharing an amazing read! I didn't even look at the blurb, I don't ever question her recs much, she's 99.999% full proof where I'm concerned. )
Christmas in Coconut Creek by Karissa Kinword is a warm, sunny holiday romance about Ophelia Brody, a Colorado elementary school teacher who escapes her complicated family holiday dynamics by flying to Coconut Creek, Florida with her roommate, and finds herself caught up in an unexpected friends with benefits romance with Frankie Casado, a cocky, endearing retired fighter pilot who might just be exactly what she never knew she needed over the festive season. Their agreement is simple: she shows him how to date again, and he shows her how to ask for what she wants… until the Christmas season and their tangled feelings begin to rewrite all the rules.
From the start I felt embraced by the beach‑side holiday vibe that cleverly flips the usual snowy Christmas on its head, letting palm trees, sandy beaches, and quirky local spots (like butterfly museums) serve as the backdrop to real, messy, joyful romance rather than clichés. Ophelia’s yearning for something more than routine and Frankie’s tentative step back into love were both deeply relatable in their own ways: she is charmingly witty and vulnerable about her romantic past, while his swagger masks a longing to feel seen and wanted again. The banter between them is playful and candid, and their chemistry simmers in a way that made me smile and feel genuinely rooting for them as the season passed.
Emotionally this story made me feel cozy and alive at once: it’s funny and flirty, but also thoughtful about healing, companionship, and what it means to open your heart when you least expect it. While some readers find the length and parts of the prose more fluffy than focused, I found that the laughter, warmth, and holiday spirit colored every page with joy and optimism.
On balance, I would give Christmas in Coconut Creek 4 out of 5 stars for its infectious chemistry, sunlit holiday setting, and the way it made me root for love, connection, and unexpected beginnings beneath the palms.
I knew it was a good sign when I cackled at the meet cute - and, sure enough, this banter-filled, playful and spicy romance kept me hooked the rest of the way through. I really didn't know what I was getting into with this one, but it took no time at all to get a feel for the vibes. I adored the chemistry between these two characters, which was apparent from the moment they met. It hit the ground running and didn't let up the whole way through, with a delicious, SPICY romance that truly delivered on the sexual tension. These two both know that there's a ticking clock on their time together, and that adds a layer of angst and heartache that pairs perfectly with the sweet, spicy vibes of the rest of the story. It had just enough holiday feels to be ideal for the season, though this book would be great any time of the year. I can't wait to read the next installment - this was a fantastic introduction to this new-to-me author. I loved it!
The story follows Ophelia, a teacher from Colorado who made the decision to do something for herself and take three weeks off to spend the holidays in Florida with her best friend. While browsing a dating app at the airport, Ophelia matches with a sexy stranger... only to realize that the guy is there at the airport with her. The two quickly figure out all the ways they're wrong for each other, before discovering that they'll be spending the holidays together. Turns out, their friends are dating pretty seriously, and the two will be spending a lot of time in each other's company. As Ophelia and Frankie get to know each other better, they realize that they have a stronger connection than either anticipated. With Ophelia leaving in a few weeks and Frankie just starting to dip his toes in the dating pool again, there's no way they'll ever be anything more than a fling. But keeping feelings out of the equation is easier said than done.
After a string of disappointing books, I was absolutely DELIGHTED to dive into this light and sexy romance. It caught my attention right away, and the obvious chemistry between Ophelia and Frankie kept me completely engaged. They're total opposites in so many ways, but I loved how they brought out the best in each other. Ophelia awakens something inside Frankie that's been quiet for years, and it was great to see what an exceptional man he really was. There's tons of banter and sexual tension, as well as a surprising level of heat. Not only is the story pretty sex positive, but it had SO many spicy moments sprinkled throughout. I'd like to call this a hot slow burn, but Ophelia and Frankie's connection was obvious right away. They did their best to fight the feelings and keep things firmly in the no strings zone, but that clearly wasn't gonna happen. I really enjoyed both characters as well as the supporting cast, so I would definitely read more from the series. It was such a fun and sexy time, with just enough holiday vibes to warm up the season.
This book had no reason being as long as it was, but I ate it all up anyways!
Christmas in Coconut Creek was a super sweet holiday book with an annoyingly perfect slow burn, found family, and a whirlwind romance. No two people seemed more perfect for each other than Ophelia and Frankie.
It was a long one and a bit repetitive at times but didn’t take too much away from the story. I will say, around ~65% in I was wondering how much more could be packed into this story. It was fun, spicy, and perfect for the holidays - especially if you’re stuck inside somewhere cold and wishing for warm weather and beaches!
Read if you like: 🌶️ hot spice (4/5) 🔥 sloooow burn 😏 age gap 🗣️ dirty talk 🤗 found family
My goodness…. Frankie and Ophelia are just perfect. The banter between these two was amazing and so freaking funny. The dialogue throughout this book was just so great and the one liners had me cracking up. The side characters were amazing as well I can’t tell you how much I laughed at some of the things Natalia would say. She is definitely the best friend everyone needs. This book is taking place during Christmas but honestly only a couple parts felt christmassy which I kind of liked for this book. This was such a good book! I can’t wait to read more from this author.
OH MY STARS THIS BOOK WAS SO GOOD! Like, it really blew me away. I came into this read thinking Hallmark Christmas-style holiday romance, but that is NOT what Christmas in Coconut Creek is AT ALL. It's a sweet, relatively low angst romance with THE BEST banter, HOT spice, and PHENONMENAL writing. Absolutely, 100% get this on your TBR - it's SO worth a read.
When Ophelia decides to spend her Christmas vacation in Florida with her best friend Natalia rather than her family, she is absolutely not expecting to meet a funny, cocky, super hot ex pilot on the way there. Frankie is the whole package - and then he turns out to be Natalia's boyfriend's best friend. While Ophelia and Frankie recognize that they have amazing chemistry, they both feel like a relationship won't work. Ophelia has to go back home at the end of her trip, and Frankie fears commitment and doesn't want to leave his friends and family behind. So they agree to a friends with benefits situation for the duration of Ophelia's stay. Many shenanigans ensue, but it's obvious that they are falling for each other by the end of the trip. Can they both get past their hang-ups for a love greater than either one has ever felt?
Oh my stars, Frankie is TOP book boyfriend material. He's a retired military helicopter pilot (JUST LIKE MY HUSBAND *swoons*) with a tragic past, but he's also SO FUNNY and his banter with Ophelia is GOLD. Honestly, ALL of the dialogue in this book is pretty amazing, the constant quips and zingers had me highlighting all sorts of random stuff because it was just so good. While Frankie takes the cake for both swooniest and filthiest lines, Ophelia's bestie Natalia is a close second for being absolutely HILARIOUS.
While this book takes place at Christmas, it's really just the setting - this book is primarily a steamy contemporary romcom. And y'all, the spice is SO hot. Karissa Kinword writes AMAZING spice - I loved it in Forget Me Not, but this one might surpass it? Also, if you hold out a little bit, there's an audiobook on the way with my new favorite narrator Blake Lockheart reading for Frankie - I'm being totally serious when I say I might reread with the audio just to hear some of these lines coming from his mouth.
I'm about to go a bit feral over this one because I was just so impressed. It is SUCH a good read, thank you so much for the ARC Karissa! This one is out at the end of October, really hoping this book gets some buzz because it totally deserves it.
This had all the potential to be a very funny rom com, but instead reads like a 2000s comedy focused on getting drunk and hooking up.
I’d put this in the same category of Icebreaker and Wildfire: cute and fluffy, incredibly small character development, and no real plot.
What I liked: - Christmas vibes are so strong!! Even though it takes place in beachy Florida, the characters do soooo many Christmas activities. - The dynamic between the two MCs is really good. It’s the playful, witty, teasy, flirty banter that would have your jaw dropped and smiling if it happened in person.
What I didn’t like: - this book is way too long. For there to be pretty much no real plot… this book could have easily been 100-150 pages shorter. - This book is soooo spicy. A perfectly sweet scene would get interrupted by spice and that made it hard to appreciate their interactions. Ex: the meet cute! The two MCs have great chemistry already, so I didn’t feel like it was necessary to keep selling. - I’ve said this already but there is no plot lol there is the “problem” that all storylines have, but there is not really any work to resolve or reach a resolution. They do, obviously, because the book ends.. but the time in between was just fluff. There wasn’t any character development or anything that elicited any emotion from the reader.
Overall, 2/5 stars. Won’t read again and won’t recommend.
Ophelia decides to switch up her normal Christmas plans to escape feeling like the odd one out with her divorced parents and their families, and opts to head to Coconut Creek to spend the holidays with her college best friend.
She plans on having the time of her life while in Florida, hoping to get out of the rut she’s been stuck in, and not at all expecting to get complete bowled over by Frankie, her seat mate. If only these two realized sooner that the many ‘coincidences’ bringing them together would change their fates!
Christmas in Coconut Creek was hilarious. The instant attraction and chemistry had me hooked from the start, and the witty banter between them had me rolling. & while these two do fall fast and hard, the sizzling heat between is somewhat of a slow build, and I loved every minute of it!
This was December's pick for my #probablysmut book club. This one had me laughing while at the same time fanning myself off. There was just something about these characters that drew me in. Light but spicy.
WOW WOW WOW Frankie and Ophelia literally STOLE my heart. I am obsessed with their story. Imagine you match with a stranger at an airport on your way to the beach for Christmas and while you are checking his photo out (heehee if you know what I mean) you run straight into the man himself because he is sitting right next to you on your flight. You guys hit it off immediately and are really feeling each other but then you have to get off the plane and go your separate ways and he unmatches with you. *gasp* Little do you both know that your best friend ( who you are visiting for 3 weeks ) has a new boyfriend who just so happens to be the man's roommate that you met on the plane!! I absolutely LOVED this story and honestly the romance was top tier, the spice was SOO good, and Frankie is honestly goals in every way.
Tropes: -age gap -forced proximity -he falls first -ex fighter pilot/teacher -man has a FILTHY mouth and it's amazing
This was such a feel good, laugh your ass off, spicy romance! I will be thinking about this forever and will be reading it every month even if it is a Christmas book. This is easily my favorite romance I read this year.
Ophelia is visiting her best friend in Florida when she swipes right on a hottie who happens to be on the same flight as her. He also just so happened to see her zooming in on the crotch of his profile picture. Nice.
I don't know if I've ever loved a character as much a as I love ophelia and frankie. They were the perfect balance to each other. THE BANTER. TOP FUCKING TIER. I couldn't stop giggling and smiling at this damn book. Please go read this, you'll love it I promise!
4.5 rounded up!! I really loved this one and haven’t laughed out loud so much over a book in quite awhile. Had just the right amount of sweet, spice, and Christmas. The right amount of holiday vibes, but could be read at any time. I feel it could have been a bit shorter, but still flew through it!
Sometimes you just need to read a Christmas book in the middle of Spring lmao. I have honestly been wanting to reread this book since the moment I finished it this past December and I figured it was a good as time as any to check out the audiobook. I had the most fun with it.
Jaclyn Kelso and Blake Lockheart were both new to me narrators and phew, they killed it! I specifically really enjoyed Blake's portrayal of Frankie's character. His voice during the spicy scenes.. my god lmao.
I'm itching for Mateo and Tally's book AND the rest of Delta's books now.
------------------------------------ First read: 12/22/23 - 12/26/23
I honestly was not sure what to expect going into this holiday read but oh my god, it completely blew my mind. This was such an easy 5 star read. I read it over the course of several days cause I literally picked it up right before Christmas Eve and I had to dedicate most of my time to being with family but this was one of those books that I kept thinking about whenever I'd have to put it down because I just wanted to keep reading it. I could have easily finished this in one sitting if I had the time.
The fucking banter, teasing, flirting, and spice in this was next level. I literally just finished a book last week that had me thinking it was some of the best smut I'd read all year, but I'm gonna have to add this book in the mix. This was just.. ugh so feaking good lmao. On top of all of that, I found myself laughing out loud to this so many times. This was genuinely funny and both of our main characters had the best sense of humor. I was obsessed with the way they joked with each other and honestly just the way they interacted had me kicking my feet.
Frankie was one of the best, if not the best dirty talker I have read all year. Jesus christ the mouth on that man lmao. He could get me to do absolutely anything for him.
Anyway, I really could gush so much more, but overall I loved every minute. The ending, the grand gesture, the epilogue - perfection. I can't wait to read Sam and Tyler's stories. I'm already so interested in their characters (specifically Sam's!!)
