Barbara Kramer began writing biographies for children and young adults after following the advice of another author who said, “Write what you like to read.” She remembered how much she enjoyed biographies when she was a kid, especially stories about trailblazers such as David Crockett, Daniel Boone, and Elizabeth Blackwell. She decided that’s what she wanted to write. Her subjects have included historical figures and people in the news. She and her husband live in Iowa with their cat, Katie. They have two grown children and two granddaughters.
Informational nonfiction texts that are appropriate for students to read on their own do a great job of incorporating key vocab words, important pictures, and strong structure. While this book isn't anything special, the format is solid and the overall book is very informative.
Another great informational text about a world famous inventor. This is a great resource for a student to use for a report or a science investigation about this great inventor. This is also a great history read. Once again, the pictures are interesting, though not as action packed as the animal ones are. They do however, have pictures of his childhood home, and many of the famous inventor during his lifetime. There is a quiz in the back, as well as a great glossary for unfamiliar words. The amount of patents and discoveries that Thomas Edison is known for is quite amazing, and he is a great inspiration for any young inventor.
