*Fitting end to the Series*

This is the last in the 8 book series. I think it is best experienced in order as past characters are included. There are some explanations but I enjoyed it more in order.
This instalment includes everyone but revisits and focusses on midwife Jess. She was left to survive the care home system when her mother died when she was younger and her father could not give her head space such was his grief. From coming through that she has blossomed and even though she is short in stature she is tougher than people realise. She has experienced heartache and fertility issues.

We see her go through a Rollercoaster of emotions. All this is running alongside another heartbreaking story in which she plays a huge supportive roll whilst trying to manage her personal life.

This book is very emotional and at the heart of it is love..

Jo Bartlett shows the journey from grief to moving forward and how unchecked past grief can manifest and spiral out of control…. So many things going on births, infertility and even though at times I guessed the plot I enjoyed the journey. I will miss this series set in the beautiful Cornish town of Port Agnes

Although I haven’t read the complete series, I have read several of the books, and I will say it is helpful to have read them in order to understand who the characters are in this book but it isn’t necessary. It can be read as a stand alone. It just helps to get a little bit more of their back story having read more of the series.
Also, there are several triggers in this one relating to fertility so if that’s an issue for you, you may want to avoid this book.
This was a satisfying way to wrap up the series. It focuses mainly on Meg and her family and Jess and her family and the way their families came to be and the way they deal with loss, infertility and grief. There are lots of happy moments as well, I don’t want you to go away thinking it’s all sad and moody, but it is definitely a darker story than some others, but of course it comes with a happy ending.
Jess wants to help care for young moms & babies as they adjust to each other once she decides not to pursue IVF with her partner anymore. But once a very special mom and baby come into the picture, she has to decide if she’s brave enough to take a chance on motherhood.
Meg lost her husband and son in a tragic accident and has been left grieving that loss for many years with her daughter, Tilly. To compensate, she’s made Tilly the center of her life, and Tilly has become quite self centered as a result. Now she’s a grown woman and trying for a baby of her own and still expects her mother to have no life outside of her and when Meg gets an unexpected surprise, she has to show Tilly that she can love her without being all consuming.
Emotional, heartbreaking and a roller coaster of emotions this winds up the series well.

This is the FINAL book on Jo’s Cornish midwife series so I had been putting it off because I didn’t want the series to finish but I have now caught up. My one word of advice… don’t put it off any longer!

Because I left a large gap it took me a bit of time to remember who was who but once I was into the spin of things I was back in the happy place. This book touches on so many tough and emotional aspects of pregnancy and infertility so it can be quite raw at times but Jo writes this in such a good way that you sympathise with everyone and just want the best for them. I’ve also found it quite a learning curve as I wasn’t aware of many of the things that have been mentioned, not just in this book, but in the whole series!

Even though this is mainly based around Meg and her story there’s also a large focus on Jess - if you’ve read this series then you’ll already know Jess well but it’s so touching to see how things are going with her - and the other midwife’s as well!

Despite the emotional scenes this was a lovely book and it warms you to see everyone come together, the community spirit and Gwen’s antics always lift the mood and put a smile on your face.

I’m sad to have finished this series but it’s not all lost because now I’ve got the Cornish County Hospital books to read which I am really looking forward to!

This is a bittersweet review, not that the book is an amazing it really is because it’s the last of the series and I’m sad to say goodbye to some of my favourite characters and their stories. This is book eight I can’t believe how quickly I’ve read through all the books and how time flies reading this wonderful series.

So many wonderful characters, the joy, the laughter, the tears, the sad times and happy, beautiful events I have shared with these characters, it’s been a long emotional ride, but always ultimately uplifting. Personally, I don’t recommend reading these as standalone books, I do believe you need to read the whole series in order to enjoy these best, you lose so much if you read them as stand-alone stories and don’t reap the full benefits. But I’m not here to tell you what to do. (But read them all 😁)

There are so many emotional moments, with humour as well to lighten the way. I’m really overjoyed everyone who thoroughly deserved a happy ending got one, although sad to leave these characters behind, it’s on a positive note they are ending on. This series has been full of so much hope, love and warmth, I am looking forward very much to Jo Bartlett’s future books and the emotion they will bring too.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Book eight in this wonderful series and sadly the last - I still have several of them to catch up on. It can be read as a standalone but why not go the whole hog and start from the beginning!?

Obviously with the books being about midwives there are going to be trigger warnings as nothing's plain sailing when it comes to birthing babies. In this book one alongside grief, the main story centres around Jess and her fertility issues.

The colourful cast of characters throughout the series have been absolutely wonderful, relatable and so realistic.

Bartlett takes us on one final whirlwind of emotions before we bid a fond farewell to the midwives forever.

I adore this series and have thoroughly enjoyed every one of the series I've read.

I have loved this series and the wonderful characters that make up the community of Port Agnes. Full of drama, upsets, surprises and laughter. As we say goodbye to the midwives it seemed that they all got what they really wanted and needed. Beautifully written with an uplifting ending, I will miss them.

Sadly the Eighth and final novel in the Cornish Midwives series and what a full best selling series this has been. I have enjoyed every single book they are all unique on their own.

As we join the midwives in Port Agnes and this book is focused mainly on Meg and Jess.
Meg's daughter Tilly faints at work, that leaves a huge surprise for Meg she is going to be a nana, and that's not all as we find another surprise for her is waiting to be told throughout the book.
Jess and her family life is also ticking over nicely with her fostering and adoption progressing has also another surprise ahead that is also to be told.
Excitement is rising over the new unit and hospital so there's lots of changes on the way.
Will it all lead to a happy ending.

This book has it usual ups and downs for the girls, that led to all my emotions going in every single chapter, I truly am going to miss this series, so lets see what this author is planning next.
It's not goodbye it's till the next time, hopefully as the author grabs us readers into her books, through and through.

I LOVED IT.

I was really delighted to see Jess at the centre of this story – while every single member of the community midwifery team of Port Agnes feels like a friend by now, I’ve particularly enjoyed watching her find happiness with her ready-made family of the lovely Dexter and his son Riley. But she’s still desperate for a child of her own, and having a particularly difficult and frustrating journey – which drives her towards other options, with another measure of possible heartbreak along the way. But this book is also Meg’s story – moving on from bereavement, facing major changes in her life with the support of her partner Johnny, but also struggling with her relationship with adult daughter Tilly.

Both stories are, as always, just beautifully handled – the author really is the most wonderful storyteller, with the perfect emotional touch. Jess’s situation – the unavoidable baby cuddles only making her repeated failures to conceive all the more painful – really touches the heart, easy to identify with and feel deeply. And I very much enjoyed following her alternative route – an option I wasn’t aware of before, and I was very much engaged in the steps along the way, really hoping her involvement wouldn’t end in yet another disappointment. And Meg’s story was every bit as involving – her relationship with Tilly very real and painful at times – and escalating towards a moment of particular drama that was quite wonderfully written and really had my heart in my mouth.

But this is the series end, and there’s also a tying up of the stories of the other characters – no, not characters, they’re real people – I’ve grown to love. The irrepressible Gwen is taking retirement, with unusual plans for her future that came as no real surprise – she’s the source of much of the book’s laughter (yes, there’s plenty of that too…), but also very much has a place in my heart. And it was so lovely to see how the lives of all the others have changed and moved on, every one of them appearing in cameo at various points in the story. The strong and supportive links between them really lift your heart – strong women, perhaps dealing with their own private issues, but pulling together in sisterhood to support their community. And running through it all, as always, are the small daily dramas and moments of joy – every one so sensitively handled – that have been the unit’s reason for being.

This really was the perfect conclusion to a series I’ve so enjoyed. Do read it as a standalone if you’d like to – but you will enjoy it all the more if you read the series in order, and really get to know the remarkable women whose lives I’ve so enjoyed being part of. It’s always sad to say goodbye – but this series has brought such joy along the way, and I’ll look forward to whatever comes next…

The perfect ending to a wonderful and heartfelt series.

Goodness, I have mixed feelings about finishing this book, mainly because it’s hard to believe this is the last book in the beautiful and emotional series. The Cornish Midwife has been a solid and breathtaking series. I lost count of the number of times that I have laughed, cried, and just fell in love with Jo’s stories and characters. Like most books in this series, you can read this book as a stand-alone. Jo does an excellent job at catching readers up with what has happened in previous books, but I recommend reading A Spring Surprise For The Cornish Midwife before starting this book. This is because A Spring Surprise is the first half of Jess’s story or journey. It’s where she tries fostering for the first time and where she meets and falls in love with Dexter.

Happy Ever After for the Cornish Midwife has everything I have come to expect and love from books from this series. We get on this emotional journey with Jess and her friend Meg. Both women are trying to grapple with big changes in their lives. Meg, at 46, has found out she is pregnant, and Jess once again finds herself being a foster mom for a wee baby. I just love being with these women as they experience wonderful and, at times, heartbreaking events. And in the end, they get the HEA they so deserve.

Fans of the series will also love being able to chat with the other midwives. Reading this book felt like hanging out with a great group of friends. This book also contains lovely secondary stories focusing on midwives’ patients. These secondary stories always add much richness and depth to the story.

Jo did a fantastic job wrapping up the series, leaving this reader feeling oh-so content.

A feel-good, poignant and emotional read that will make you laugh and cry in equal measure, Happy Ever After for the Cornish Midwife concludes best-selling author Jo Bartlett’s fantastic series.

Midwife Jess adores her job. Being a midwife is a vocation which she doesn’t take lightly and she considers herself privileged to be able to spend her days doing something she is so passionate about. But her career has also cost her dearly as she discovered. Having put her own hopes of being a mother on the backburner, Jess fears that that ship might have sailed for good. Never one to focus on the negatives, optimist Jess decides to forget about her heartache and to focus on the family she has and her stepson Riley. However, when she is asked to care for a tiny baby and a new mum in need of support, Jess finds herself tested like never before.

Jess has had her fair share of heartbreak and she isn’t sure she’d be able to cope with another goodbye this time around. But is Jess ready to turn her back on her dreams of motherhood forever? Should she listen to her heart and embrace this chance? Or will refusing to help a mother and baby in need prove to be something that she will end up regretting for the rest of her life?

Jo Bartlett’s books are wonderful Cornish escapes that tug at the heartstrings and soothe the soul and Happy Ever After for the Cornish Midwife is another gem I absolutely loved. An intense, hopeful and uplifting tale about love, courage and healing best read with a huge box of tissues handy, Happy Ever After for the Cornish Midwife is an enjoyable and engrossing treat sure to brighten up the gloomiest of days for readers everywhere.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I have followed this wonderful series from the beginning and am really rather sorry to say goodbye to these lovely midwives who have, over the course of the series, become as familiar as friends, and ending with Jess's lovely story brings this series to a wonderful conclusion.

As always the story flows beautifully so much so that I read the book in one sitting during a particularly rainy Sunday and it certainly helped to chase away the rainy day blues. Whilst this book focuses on Jess and her search for baby happiness it also brings us up to date with what's been happening with Megan and her partner Johnny who lives seem to be heading in a very different direction much to the chagrin of Meg's grown up daughter, Tilly. Both stories are compelling, and emotional, which again shows the depth of feeling, and compassion, which goes into every one of these books.

As it's the finale of the series there is a definite sense of the the tying up of loose ends and so it was really lovely to be able to imagine the characters going about their lives as change is about to happen for this little Cornish community, and with the opening of a bigger hospital the midwives are starting to go their separate ways. I think that's why the series has been so successful as it brings together a group of strong female characters whose bond of friendship, and sisterhood, has continued throughout and whilst this last book can, like all the others, be read as a standalone story, it does make sense to read the books in order, that way when you come to say goodbye to them all in Happy Ever After for the Cornish Midwife, you may well, like me, shed a little tear of fond farewell.

*I received a free ARC from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review*

This book was a pleasant surprise as I had thought the prior book was the end of the series. Now that it is officially done I know I will miss these characters and their stories. Jo Bartlett once again seamlessly weaves together birthing stories and the main characters' personal lives. I was really glad that she did not have Jess get pregnant with her miracle/dream baby; it just shows that there is more than one way to become a parent. It also kept the story more realistic. As always it was nice to get to check-in with the other midwives and find out how they were doing. My only complaint there is that I would have liked Ella and Dan's baby storyline to get a little more attention given what they went through in the previous book (also since they are the couple that started it all). Meg's storyline was sweet and heartbreaking all at the same time. Her struggles with her daughter just broke my heart. Luckily she had Johnnie there as her partner to love and support her through it all. And although much of Tilly's behavior is beyond awful I was glad to know she ended up getting the help she so desperately needed and that Ed was still standing by her side. I know I said this before, but I am going miss this series so much now that it has wrapped up. But on the bright side, I know Jo Bartlett will write more novels so I will still get to see what new stories and characters she creates!

I have to say at times as I was reading this, for fair amounts of the book I was doubting how accurate the title was, as omg these characters were really put through the wringer.

And I was ready to do unspeakable things to the author if, especially knowing it was the end of the series, the characters didn't get suitable end points.

Delighted to say that by the end I was practically in tears, of happiness, it was fabulous!

We are treated to more of Jess's story, and given how much I felt for her, in the previous book she was leading, I was already hooked from the start. And our other main character this time is Meg, and I would never have guessed at her storyline at all.

There is so much drama, action, emotion, babies, and more in this book and the series as a whole.

I know I'm really going to miss all of the midwives in this series. Gwen had me laughing as always and I have to say I really hope we haven't seen the last of all of these characters. I'm rather hoping there may be a spin off series or something else set in the area! But that could just be wishful thinking.

This is a wonderful ending to what has been a rather special series. Just amazing.

Thank you to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

I have now reviewed some of the Cornish Midwife books and have liked them all. In this last book, Jess has many responsibilities. Work, and trying to give her stepson Riley the best life possible. A mother and baby are especially important to her and makes her want a baby of her own. But will she be able to have one?

I loved the premise of the book and I was sad that it was the last one. I am looking forward to catching up with the other books in the series and maybe going back through the entire series to find out how the other books fit in.

Happy Ever After for the Cornish Midwife has suspense, emotions and tough decisions. Jess was resilient and I was rooting for her. I wanted to review the book to find out how the series would end and I feel both happy and sad at how things ended in the series. I have a lot of book drafts myself, and know how hard it is to make an end-of-series book pack a punch while tying up loose ends and giving characters a believable and satisfying end to their character arc, but Jo Bartlett left me satisfied and she is a very skilled author.

Thanks to Jo Bartlett, Boldwood Books and Rachel's Random Resources for my eARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.

It is quite an achievement to tie up all the loose ends and bring a series like The Cornish Midwife to a satisfying conclusion, but Jo Bartlett does it! There are so many characters who have featured. Hopefully, the door has been left open for some future stories. This story centres on Jess who has decisions to make about IVF. If that fails again, she knows that she will have to look at other options. Family and friendship, as ever, are at the heart of the story. There are patients to deal with and big changes for some of the midwives.
Jess never loses sight of the needs of Riley, the little boy she has adopted and knows that he is desperate for a sibling. There are emotional moments in the story and the infertility support group offers reassurance to several, all of whom has a different reason for attending. There are also some funny moments to lighten the stresses. You certainly feel that motherhood is a job for life, as you see the dynamic between family members. Not everyone acts in a way which makes them likeable but you come to appreciate their points of view. This has been such an engrossing series, full of warmth and humanity.
In short: family, friends, support

What a brilliant, emotive finale this proved to be
Full of angst, drama, secrets and surprises, you'll see.
With midwives, mothers and babies, too,
A moving read I highly recommend to you.

For some, becoming a Mum is fraught
Sometimes things don't go as they ought.
This story shares events from some that go well
As well as for others for whom only time will tell.

The Port Agnes Midwifery Unit is at the centre of every thing
The team, their patients and all the drama their lives bring.
It isn't the story of just one couple but more
About the team, their friendships and relationships to explore.

There's drama a plenty, with grief, celebrations and romance
Where people make the most of every chance.
The impact of loss, broken trust, injury, mental health and healing
Are all dealt with such caring and feeling.

A gorgeous read, a delightful community to see
I hope you'll read it and discover you agree!
For my complementary copy of this book, I say thank you,
As I share with you this, my honest review.

I will say having read only the first and the last books of the series I was able to read this one just fine. It may help some to read them all in order to understand all of the characters but I found it wasn’t necessary.

There are plenty of moments that this book hit home with infertility issues and I will admit that I cried way more than I would have liked. While it is sad, there is a happy ending. This one focuses mainly on Meg and Jess and how their lives change with the prospect of babies in various ways.

All in all this was a great ending to this amazing series and I do have all of the other books in my be read pile. It is one of those series that just sucks you in and makes you want to know what happens to all of the girls.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. This review was originally posted on Storied Conversation

What a feel good book this was!

Jess is a midwife who has had to deal with some pretty traumatic things in the past but she is very happy with her husband Dexter and her step-son Riley. The only thing that would make her life complete is a baby of her own but will she get what she desperately wants?

Meg is happy in her new relationship with Johnnie but she still thinks about the husband and son she lost in tragic circumstances. Her daughter Tilly is struggling as well.

These two women are the focus of this book and wow, they really deal with a lot! I loved both of them and their partners and colleagues as well. The author did a good job with Tilly's characterisation!

I have to admit to actually gleaning a bit of wisdom from this book with the relationship between Meg and Tilly, which is very similar to myself and my daughter. I am also a bit of a soft touch.

Anyway, 5 stars from me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books.

Wow what a read! I have absolutely loved this series and am so sad that this is the last one. As always Jo takes us on a roller coaster of emotions. What I really love about her books is that although each one concentrates on one main character all the other characters are very much included and you get to continue to follow their stories. In this book we follow the story of Meg and her daughter Tilly. Meg’s husband and son were killed ten years previously and she is in a new relationship with the vet. Can her and Tilly really move on from the tragedy? Meanwhile midwife Jess, who has had so much heartache, has to decide if she is going to try IVF again. After having her heartbroken when she had to give up Teddy, a baby who she cared for, she must deciding if she can open her heart again to another baby through fostering. There is such a sense of community, support, friendship and family dynamics. Another fantastic read from Jo Bartlett and she is an author I would highly recommend!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. I have chosen to write this honest review voluntarily and it reflects my personal opinion.
This series finale pulls together the characters we've met throughout the other books, whilst concentrating on Jess' story, the main character in the first book. There is also a thread about Meg and her daughter, Tilly. I have to admit I couldn't warm to Tilly's character and felt some of the details about Tilly and Meg's loss lacked some credibility, such as the plan to celebrate a 'special' birthday so many years after the death of the father / husband. Some parts of the book delivered some excellent twists, and some were predictable but overall this is a good finale in an enjoyable series - if you enjoyed watching Call the Midwife you'll love these books with their colourful characters.

The Cornish Midwife series focuses around a midwifery unit in the Cornish village of Port Agnes. Happily Ever After for the Cornish Midwife was a lovely ending to a fantastic series. The setting was absolutely gorgeous and felt like coming home. The characters are so likeable and I loved their support not only of each other, but the support they gave to their community and surrounding areas.

Each book in the series focuses on different members of the midwifery team and their issues surrounding loss, infertility and grief. I highly recommend this series and looking forward to reading more by this wonderful author.

A Brilliant Series

Sad to read this might be the last book in the Port Agnes series, but all good things have to come to an end and I am sure the author will soon come up with another series which might even be better, if that's possible. This time we follow Jess, a midwife who cannot have a baby of her own and Meg, who has found happiness again after the tragic loss of her husband and son. Everyone is happy for her apart from her daughter Tilly. I have to confess I found Tilly rather annoying at times but of course it was part of her character, I wouldn't have been half as patient as Meg. I loved the book though and would give it more than 5 stars if I could.

Midwife Jess, deeply passionate about her vocation, cherishes the privilege of dedicating her days to it. However, her career choices have come at a personal cost, as she realizes she may have forfeited her own dreams of motherhood. Despite this, the optimistic Jess chooses to focus on her existing family, including her stepson Riley. When presented with the opportunity to care for a newborn and a struggling mother, Jess faces an unprecedented test, grappling with the possibility of sacrificing her dreams and the fear of enduring another heartbreak. Now, Jess stands at a crossroads, contemplating whether to embrace this chance, listening to her heart, or potentially regretting a decision to turn away from a mother and baby in need.

Centered on a midwifery unit in the village of Port Agnes, The Cornish Midwife series concludes beautifully with Happily Ever After for the Cornish Midwife. The enchanting setting captures the essence of home, and the characters, with their endearing qualities, extend not only mutual support but also contribute to the well-being of their community and its surroundings.

Jess's story moves on in this book, as does Meg's. It is heartwarming and poignant, involving all the midwifery team and plenty of family dramas. Authentically detailed and emotional, immersing the reader in the midwives' lives with believable characters and life-changing events. It brings this chapter of the midwives' lives to a satisfying conclusion. I enjoyed the dynamics between the team, the drama, and the characters the author brings to vibrant life.

A happy and emotional ending for some of our favourite characters from the Cornish Midwife series, but not before dramatic events take place. Meg believes she is settling into menopause and wonders how that might affect her relationship with Johnnie, who is much younger. Jess still longs for a baby but has almost given up hope of ever achieving that dream. The author indicates this may be the last book in the series, and it does seem a satisfying place to end the stories of the Cornish midwives.

I loved reading this book from beginning to end. So emotional in parts and funny. I love all the characters. I'm so happy all the ladies as had a happy ending too. Thank you for the competition too that I won my little Sunshine Tobi was so happy when he saw his name in your book his face was a picture! And my little Prince Simeon too. And thank you for the message in your acknowledgements too I couldn't believe it my self I was so excited too! Can't wait to read more of your books thank you x
