The relationship of star-crossed lovers Elizabeth Sutton and Edward Morgan founders off the coast of Bermuda with the shipwreck of the Sea Venture in the seventeenth century. Edward is seduced by the captain's daughter and trapped into an unhappy marriage, but he and his new wife continue the voyage to Virginia to rescue the starving Jamestown Colony.
Elizabeth, still in England and pregnant with Edward's child, receives Edward's letters telling of the shipwreck but knows nothing of his marriage. When her child is old enough, Elizabeth follows him as far as Bermuda. Will he return and the lovers be reunited, or will their eternally entwined souls search forever to fulfill their destiny?
Destiny: A Bermuda Love Story by Marilyn Baron held my interest from page one. It's a quick read with interesting characters in a time when romance wasn't considered necessary to marry. The main characters find love with each other, but their lives are set on separate paths across the seas. Will they ever find happiness?
Short, sweet and sad. There is a huge amount of depth expressed in this novella. It could have filled a longer novel for me, with the set up and drama that took us from England, to Jamestown, Virginia and Bermuda. There was a tragic shipwreck, love, betrayal, and a heartbreaking end. Truly, a beautifully written, surprising read.
A beautiful short historical romance. I loved the story but felt it just did not do the character's justice by it's length. I will be reading more of this author's work.
