Sell townhouse: check. Quit job: check. Find fifty men willing to go on a blind date: check. Take off on the adventure of a lifetime: check.
How many times have you dreamed of running away from home? After years of imagining how freeing the open road would feel, Tiffany Malcom decided it was time to take off on the adventure she’d been longing for. With $5000 and a car named Cherry Cherry, she set off to see America . . . and go on a date in every state along the way.
Ride shotgun as she meets doctors, mechanics, teachers, and men from every walk of life for fifty blind dates. Did she prefer skydiving with Mr. Vermont or kayaking around icebergs with Mr. Alaska? Dirt biking with Mr. Utah or riding roller coasters with Mr. Ohio? Of course, not every fish in the sea is a catch, but only one date smelled like lobster bait.
With a healthy dose of humor and a knack for storytelling, Malcom brings us along for the ride as she dates, drives, camps, couch surfs, and is terrorized by wild animals (both real and imagined). Come along on the journey as she tries to answer the big question: are all the good ones really taken, or does she still have a chance at love?
For a first time author, Ms. Malcom writes with a clear, smart, feisty, and slightly self-deprecating voice. You truly feel like you are along with her as she travels the fifty states! The dates were entertaining to read about, but along with that, there are beautiful moments throughout the U.S. and personal insights from the author. Does she find love in the end? Get yourself a copy off of Amazon. You won't regret it. One of the best books I've read this year...and I read alot!
I loved it. I had to keep reading so I finished it in two sittings. The author keeps you engaged with her adventures and dates that you feel you are a part of the experience. Fun summer read!!!
I borrowed this from a friend of the author who is the one who recommended Mr. Washington! It was fun to see her name in the book. I enjoyed this overall, though the author and I are very different people. I'd really have liked to check out the names of some of the places where she ate but the website no longer exists, and someone else seems to have co-opted the 50 dates in 50 states idea. Oh well.
Having met and gotten to know Tiffany (and Kevin), it was great to read this journey of hers! What an incredible experience to have. She saw and did so many amazing things and met awesome people, and she tells the story in such a delightful way. Doesn't make me want to date through the states, but totally reinforces my desire to visit all 50 states!
As the author says more than once, kudos to her friend who came up with such a fun idea for a book. Think a mash-up of Eat, Pray, Love and a Match.com commercial. I kept wondering how great this would have been if she had been tweeting her progress as well. Maybe she did but I wasn't aware of it at the time and missed out on the fun. It definitely keeps you reading until the end to see how her quest turns out. In my younger days I would have used it as a guidebook, making a few changes here and there to better fit my interests and the various sights I would like to see in each state. I wonder how many readers will be inspired to do something similar.
The book had an interesting premise, however, it was difficult to read due to the author. Her main focus seemed to be whether her dates were hotties or cuties, all the while saying that she was a messy dresser and often not too clean either. For someone in their mid-30s, this seems like a rather juvenile attitude.
Just finished this book and absolutely loved it! I loved the author's fun and comical style and it kept me entertained the whole way through. As a fellow Iowan, I loved her references to our Midwestern way of life and appreciated learning about her childhood. I would definitely recommend this book!!
Laugh out loud funny...and a great look at a slice of life from all of the pieces of our United States. This was a charmingly different idea for a book and a once-in-a-lifetime road trip...a thoroughly great read!
