Untold: The Story of an Unknown Legend

Rate this book
Michael "Mista Meana" Patterson has built a legendary career as one of the pioneers in the New Orleans rap scene, a father, husband, and businessman. These successes didn't come without many adverse circumstances and life-altering sacrifices along the way. After meeting Kango Slimm, in high school through a mutual friend, the pair teamed up and formed the rap group, Partners-N-Crime. Partners-N-Crime had widespread success in Louisiana and across the states with their single "Let the Good Times Roll", a song that discusses the social change in the black community in the year 1994. This year was one of the most violent years in New Orleans, the "City of Social Justice". "Pump the Party" was also produced in 1994 and still rides the airwaves today alongside their catalog of hits! " The Story of an Unknown Legend" is a raw and transformational account detailing the true cost of success. From lifelong friendship to finding forever love and surviving debilitating losses, Meana aims to leave each reader with hope and guidance to persevere through life's circumstances while traveling the road towards self actualization and success.

Before I commence with my musings, PNC3 is the best complete bounce album of all time. From the moment I bought that blue tape from Conrad Music I became invested. Over the years I’ve had so many questions such as, the origins of PNC? How exactly did the UNLV beef start? Did any of it spill out the studio? Why didn’t Big Boy succeed? Where was/ is Primetime? Why PNC never went major? How did Misdemeanor get his name? What made him pivot and change to Mista Meanor?

Since birth Misdemeanor (IYKYK) has consistently been defying the odds. Literally.
When faced with adversity and opposition he met them without hesitation and strived to be a better man from that moment on.

Another consistency was he stood on principle and your word. No exception as he detailed stories not just with family and friends but Juvie, J Prince, Baby, P, and the label Big Boy Records. He held you accountable for your actions or lack of.

Unbeknownst to me this read had a plot twist. While I wanted to know more about PNC vs UNLV stories and the collapse of Big Boy Records (I still do want to hear more because of that time and to be here to tell your story is a blessing) as I mentioned previously, I got more invested in Michael Patterson. The man. The father. The husband. The son. The friend. The brother.

Victim never seemed to be an option. It was always Victor. Life trials and errors are inevitable no matter what side of the neutral ground you’re on. Misdemeanor, Mista Meana and Michael always persevered. ALWAYS!

What’s your favorite PNC song? Album?
