"Eeny meeny miney moe... Which Devil has to go?" The Wishmaker has made themself known, but how do you find a killer when you have no clue who they are? It is up to me and my Devils, Aden, Tristian, and Sebastian, to find out who is going around Providence Village and causing deadly chaos in their wake. With the new drug Pixie Dust making its way through Providence Village, killing fae and humans alike, I'm up against the clock to solve the mystery. And now we have to find missing mermaids from my coven before The Wishmaker kills them. With the help of a few of my friends, I know that The Wishmaker's end is near.
First and foremost, this series goes in order and ends on cliffhangers! Read the first book otherwise this review will contain spoilers and be confusing!

"The Devils and their siren were going to bring the entire force of their power down onto The Wishmaker and their followers." - Lexi
The Wishmaker is making their moves and it's hitting extremely close to home, not that their previous acts weren't already accomplishing just that. Lexi is forced to make hard decisions and understand the gravity of what it means to be a coven leader! But the more the Wishmaker pushes the stronger Lexi and her Devils will become!
The clock is ticking down and lives are on the line! Lexi refuses to sit back and not do anything as she tries to navigate through the secrets. Her Devils helping her with her investigation and hunt but being stopped at almost every turn. Who is the Wishmaker and what do they want with her? Lexi's trying to keep it all together, for the covens, the Devils and herself, but breaking. Will she be able to have it all and keep everyone safe?!
“Princess, we’ve been cursed for years, so let the fire rain down on us, because Devils don’t burn.”
First off. . .I feel like I need a medal for finishing this book! I normally don't read seven-hundred-page books, but I wanted to with this one because I absolutely loved the first book. Now I know some readers will scoff and do a hair flip while holding up thick books they breezed through. Page count shouldn't matter if you truly love a book, the characters, author, writing style, etc. But finishing a big book feels like a major accomplishment!
Lexi's growing tired of this cat and mouse game as the Wishmaker toys with every aspect of her life! Finding out well kept secrets has her moving forward down a rocky path as she uncovers the truth. Lexi will stop the spread of Pixie Dust through the covens along with saving the lives of the kidnapped mermaids from her coven! Only, she's not alone in this endeavor as her Devils rally beside her. But has she fully forgiven them?
Ella’s eyebrows shot up. “Well, shit… that’s, ummm… all three? You gotta tell me how the hell that works?” (Same! *Sits down with notepad alongside my bestie, Ella*!)
The Devils = Aden, Tristian, and Bash are trying to prove with their actions that Lexi can trust them. Being possessive vampires who will do anything for their beloved siren! Only relationships are strained, and things are uncertain as the three try and understand each other and their own feelings. Lexi making it clear that she will not choose just one of them. Only they can tell that one of them has a steeper cliff to climb than the other two with getting her trust back.
What drew me in the most with Lexi and her men is the fact that she doesn't instantly accept their apology. Even in this installment they have to work to earn her trust and forgiveness! I also love how the author writes and it's all in Lexi's POV so even as I read, I still had this constant voice in the back of my head questioning the Devils. They explained why they betrayed her, but actions speak louder than words and sometimes old wounds are hard to heal. But can they all move past it and truly let go of the past?
I loved the twists and turns this book took as I read through the pages. I had my suspicions on what was going to happen and was pleasantly surprised. You will have your heartbroken on several occasions, but the ending was wow! I did expect something different but looking back it made total sense, and that's all I'm going to say. There's a cliffhanger and I definitely NEED the next installment!
Grayson is still my favorite character and there's some things revolving around his character that I squealed about! Loved a lot of the new faces who were introduced in this read and interested to see how they will help or hinder the progression of situations! I also just really want to know if my theories on things are correct!
This is a dark romance series with language, bloodshed, and violence. The MMCs are vampires and we do get the yummy blood drawing/biting. I mean it is an unspoken rule that if you have a love interest who is a vampire there needs to be some biting and blood drinking! Grief is present in this book, feelings of anxiety, and the FMC has to struggle with her emotions at times. Flashbacks are shown throughout the read along with mention of dark pasts. Magic is a major part of the book and there's some details around witchy aspects!
We get more yummy scenes in this installment! There's no MM action between the guys, MF and MFM action happens along with teasing of MFMM. I really enjoyed how the guys tried to figure out this new dynamic and that Lexi wasn't going to accept anything else. Insecurities popping up here and there along with some jealousy. Lexi is also very possessive of her Devils!
I still absolutely love and want tattoos of the artwork from the chapter headers! The moths are stunning and beautiful! Cici is doing a great job with this series, and she really raised the stakes at the climax of the book! I want more and really want to know how this is all going to end.
Enjoy the dark read as the Wishmaker continues making their moves and pushing Lexi. What's going to happen when she truly snaps?! Don't forget to give the author some stars!
This novel picks up where The Oddity left off. Lexi & Co remain on the hunt for the Wishmaker and get sidetracked by one another along the way.
A lot of my reactions are comparable to those I had after reading The Oddity. I still think the world has a lot of promise, though I do wish the fae were a little more...alien. I find that this version of the fae falls too closely to the human end of the spectrum. (I acknowledge that I do have a strong preference for the aloof fae who don't care about human affairs and culture at all, so this is certainly a biased view).
Once again, I felt that further editing would have helped the book along. The same errors were present in book 2: imprecise language, unnecessary repetition, grammar. Thankfully, the main characters have begun using contractions in their dialogue, which made for an improvement.
The French also demonstrates the same concerns I had with its use in the preceding novel: errors in translation, spelling and grammar mistakes, the use of English syntax for French phrases, as well as missing accents. And, again, the way French words are thrown into an English sentence doesn't work.
The romance element really doesn't work for me in this series. There are a number of problematic tropes that don't sit well with me. The dialogue is largely cringe-inducing. I think a lot of it is at odds with who the reader is supposed to believe the main character is at heart.
Lexi is a terrible coven leader so far. Rather than handling coven business (whatever that is on the day-to-day), tending to the families of her kidnapped coven-mates, or actually doing anything meaningful to find said kidnap victims, she's off frolicking with her beaux. While the coven leadership structure is glossed over, I can't imagine that it's doing well with the previous two coven leaders murdered, and the current leader seemingly unaware of anything other than her own immediate gratification.
So, with all that said, I haven't enjoyed reading this series so far, which makes me sad. There's a lot of potential. It's an interesting backdrop for a story. I think the serial killer angle is very promising and I have been enjoying that element, although I think the romance element is anathema to the pacing the mystery requires. I think this series could be something very special with some significant rebalancing of genres. I do not plan to continue reading further in the series.
That ending is cruel. Now the question is, Cici, are you going to stick to your guns and keep it that way? I'm curious to see what you will do.
This book did better on the inconsistencies, but the character who kept having eyes change between brown and blue in the previous book had the same problem here. Is that a unique feature on her? They go from brown to blue randomly or depending on mood? I'm not sure. There was no explanation.
As I stated above, the ending was wrenching, but I kind of guessed it would happen considering how many times the possibility was brought up in conversation. But this book did confirm some things that I had thought about the previous book while also keeping other things complicated.
Also, in the first book, in the first note Lexi received, the Wishmaker expressed that he was pretty much in love with her and seemed to be under the impression she loved him too as he stated he killed her parents and others to "free" her so that she could be herself, or something like that. But then, as time went on, it seemed more like he wanted to kill her. He is just confusing all around. And I'm using "he" because I just get that vibe from him.
I also want to make a note regarding Cassandra. I feel like she got off way too easy after what she pulled. And then the Full Moon banquet happened. Can't say I was surprised by that realization.
Overall, I am excited to see how the next book will go. With how this one ended, I'm curious to see if it will be a permanent change or a temporary one.
Hemlock Falls Book 2 By CiCi Meyer’s is a fabulous witchy series! This series will have your mind whirling trying to figure out everything and the mysteries. It’s truly captivating and you can easily connect with characters and become invested. You need to read The Oddity book 1 first before this one! You’ll find Fae, a tribe of devils lol and Mermaids as well. Make sure to add this one to your tbr!
Must read.. The Wishmaker has made themselves known, with the new drug Pixie Dust making its way through Providence Village, killing fae and humans alike, I have to solve the mystery, and now we have to find missing mermaids from my Coven before The Wishmaker kills them. The end of this book I didn’t not expect it at all I can’t wait to see how this continues in the next book. I’m so loving this story.. I wish I had the book though bc the audio AI was not it..
Oh my gosh! I am so happy and so heartbroken at the same time. My emotions are all over the place. I am so happy to have received an ARC of this book. It was everything I wanted it to be. This story sucks you in and you just want more.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
CiCi has done it again!! I love this series so much....Lexi & her Devils are forever in my heart...CiCi gives us mystery, adventure, secrets, and ooooo some good SPICE!! She will always be a one click for me!!
This book has me engrossed. I cannot put it down and it is all I think about when I do have to put it down. Cici Myers has truly outdone herself with this series and it will always be a book I go back to. I cannot wait to see what she comes out with next!
I am heart broken! Not Aden! I am so glad Franklin is gone for he gives me the ick. I have to jump right to the next book to see how they revenge him and pleas please please tell me coco is ok!
I enjoyed this second book especially because of the new characters and action. I'm looking forward to finding out how this story concludes and experiencing more magic along the way.
This was an excellent book, although Lexi could be annoying at times. But holy shit that cliffhanger.... I'm hopingna certain ancient potion will come into play.
Holy Moses!! Hands down one of the best books I have ever read hands down!!! So freaking much emotion this book has drawn out in the last few chapters! I don’t want to give spoilers but Lexi’s journey WOW WOW WOW! READ IT you won’t regret it!!!
This book was even better than the first book. In The Oddity, there's a lot of character development which really helped propel the storyline in this second book. I think what makes this so good is the hunt for the Wishmaker (who and why). We learn more about his/her zealot cult and Lexi's stalker, but each time it looks like Lexi and her Devils might be headed in the right direction, more death follows. This is a short review, because if you're already here, you're on this journey to the end. This was a very fast read, and I can't wait to start book 3 and see how Myers has concluded this story. I will say, I re-read the ending twice and man oh man....
