Moh & Maya by Sun:Jeev

Moh & Maya is a slow, emotional journey told through Maya as she opens up her life to her granddaughter, Mohini. The story moves through different states, different phases, and different versions of Maya each shaped by her attachments, her losses, and the moral compass she tries so hard to hold on to. I loved the honesty in her reflections and the rawness with which the author captures family bonds, guilt, love, and the quiet pain of aging.

What truly stands out is the theme itself , how “moh” (attachment) and “maya” (illusion) guide and misguide us through our relationships. The generational conversations are beautiful, and Maya’s inner world feels real and relatable.

However, the writing does feel a bit distracted at times. Some transitions come too quickly, as if a thought is left hanging or a scene is only half explore, feels slightly incomplete, like they’re moving ahead before the emotion has fully settled. Because of this, the flow breaks occasionally, even though the intention behind the story is strong.

Saagar jaisi aankhon wali , daal papad , chottey sahib .....such words gives the touch of strong connectivity .

Still, despite its uneven pacing, the book has heart. It’s tender, thoughtful, and filled with moments that make you pause and reflect on your own attachments and illusions.

A meaningful read if you enjoy family sagas with philosophical undertones ~ just be prepared for a few bumps in the storytelling.

This novel moves through memory the way life does uneven, emotional, and quietly persistent.

Moh & Maya centers on Maya, an aging woman who looks back on her life while sharing fragments of it with her granddaughter, Moh. The year is 2020, but the story stretches far beyond it, crossing cities, decades, and emotional distances. Rajasthan, Himachal, Bengal, Mumbai and each place leaves its mark, not just geographically, but emotionally.

Maya’s three sons form the heart of the story. Each one chooses a different path, driven by love, responsibility, or survival. None of those choices come without cost. Bhatia does not judge them. He lets their contradictions stand. Affection exists alongside absence. Care coexists with distance.

The writing stays reflective rather than dramatic. Moments unfold slowly. Conversations carry weight because they come wrapped in memory. The bond between Maya and Moh gives the story its tenderness. Through that relationship, the novel explores how stories get passed down, altered, softened, or sharpened with time.

What stands out is restraint. The book does not chase emotional payoff. It trusts quiet moments regret left unspoken, love expressed indirectly, choices understood too late.

Moh & Maya is not about grand events. It’s about how ordinary lives accumulate meaning. It asks a simple question and lets it linger: how do we stay connected when time keeps pulling us apart

Ever caught yourself holding on to something even when you know it might be slipping away? That quiet tension is exactly what Moh and Maya by Sanjeev captures so beautifully.

This novel feels less like a story and more like a mirror. It gently draws you into the lives of its characters, who are navigating love, expectations, and the invisible pull of emotional attachments.

What stood out to me most is how naturally the book explores the conflict between what we feel and what is actually real. Without being heavy or preachy, it reflects ideas rooted in Indian philosophy; especially the way attachment and illusion quietly shape our choices.

It’s simple, almost effortless to read, but carries a depth that stays with you. The characters don’t feel fictional; they feel like people you’ve met, or maybe even parts of yourself. Their struggles are subtle yet deeply relatable, which made the reading experience feel personal and immersive.

What I enjoyed most is how the book made me pause and think. It doesn’t rush; instead, it invites you to sit with emotions and reflect on your own attachments, what you hold on to, and why. That introspective quality is its biggest strength.

If you enjoy meaningful, character-driven stories that leave you thinking long after you’ve finished, Moh and Maya is definitely worth your time. It’s a calm, thoughtful, and quietly impactful read.

This book beautifully explores family dynamics how different people want different things, and how life keeps changing. There is no certainty about what the future holds. A person is born in one place, journeys through life, finds love, starts a family, moves from one place to another, settles somewhere else, and eventually passes away far from where they began.

The story revolves around Maya and Khazan and their family. They have three sons Sanjeevni, Ashwini, and Hari. The book portrays both love and arranged marriages and shows how these relationships grow, change, and evolve over time.
Maya and Khazan build a home and name it Moh & Maya, a place filled with love, memories, and belonging. The story follows their lives and shows Maya’s constant efforts to keep her family bound together, even as her sons have to leave home for work. Ashwini, in particular, dreams of exploring the world and travelling.

What I loved most was the ending. It was heartbreaking, yet deeply relatable because it’s something that does happen in real life, and it hurts just as much.
The family bonding portrayed in this book will truly touch your heart. This book is for everyone who wants to slow down and reflect on emotions to understand how life changes, how it can be hard, and yet still offer moments worth cherishing.

I recently finished reading Moh & Maya by Sun:Jeev, and it truly left a lasting emotional impact on me. This book beautifully explores the meaning of moh (attachment) and maya (illusion) through the life of Maya and her family. The storytelling feels like flowing memories—slow, reflective, and deeply rooted in human emotions.

What I loved the most is how the author portrays a mother’s unconditional love, family bonds, silent sacrifices, and the inevitable truth of life and mortality. The characters feel real, flawed, and relatable, making this story resonate on a personal level. It’s not just an emotional novel, but a soulful mirror of relationships, Indian culture, and life philosophy.

If you enjoy meaningful, character-driven, emotionally rich stories, Moh & Maya is a must-read. A reflective and heart-touching journey that stays with you long after the last page. 💫

Moh & Maya is not a fast story. It moves slowly, just like real life. It talks about family, memories, and the quiet pain of growing apart. The book shows how nothing stays the same forever, even when love is strong.

The story is told by Maya, a mother who looks back at her life while talking to her granddaughter. Her three sons grow up and choose different paths. One wants love, one wants responsibility, and one wants to see the world. Maya builds a home full of warmth, but slowly learns that holding on too tightly can also hurt 🌸

What makes this book special is its honesty. There is no drama, only emotions we all know. Love, attachment, distance, and acceptance. The ending stays with you because it feels real. Moh & Maya is a gentle reminder that life moves on, but memories always stay 💭📖.

The title itself, translating to “Attachment and Illusion,” sets the stage for the book’s central themes. The plot, as described by the reviewer, follows three siblings who grow up and inevitably move in different directions. This simple, universally relatable premise is given a poignant twist by its narrative structure: the story is told from the perspective of their mother, Maya.

In a touching framing device, Maya recounts the family’s history to her granddaughter, looking back on the divergent paths her three sons—Sanjeevni, Ashwini, and Hari—have taken. One is driven by love, another by paternal instinct, and the third by a sheer will to survive. The family is in a “permanent state of nomadic migration, trying hard to stay with each other, and yet torn away by distance.”
