First of all, a book I couldn’t put down – always a good sign! And being a parent that must avoid certain bad language, “fluffernutter” and “what the fluff” may be my 2 new favorite phrases. I loved every character in this book (and loved to hate her dad)! But by far, Dy stood out from the rest. Being put in increasingly impossible situations – especially for a girl just short of 17 – she took each one with style. Whether it be with toughness or humor, it was always perfect. Let’s just say you’ll find out in the book just how much here genes are a part of her personality, and it makes her just that much better!
And of course there’s Ari…her high school sweetheart that is so much more. If I were in high school, this is the kind of guy I would want to find. They have been sure their whole lives, growing up in a small town, that they are soul mates. And throughout the book, he is put to the test, and never disappoints. I LOVED him!
I really like the take on the druid and fae cultures in this book too. Their (bad) relationship, and how things come about, is different from what I’ve read before, and really intriguing. And I have to say that the idea of abusive jerks being the way they are because they are demons or some other sort of pure evil is completely real life possible to me. At least it would be somewhat understandable as to why they are that way.
And the fae in this book…how they travel and communicate between worlds, their relationships to each other, the way their magic works – all wonderful. And I MUST find the water they use in this book! Each one of Dy’s friends that help her along the way – especially a certain blue haired friend – are wonderful! I wish I could say more about each character, but it would spoil too much, so you’ll just have to read it!
Although we got a glimpse in a few spots of the book about what the fae world is like, it looks like we get a much better view of the fae world and the people of the fae world in the next book. I can’t tell you how much I look forward to it! The book wrapped up perfectly, with no killer cliffhangers, but leaving me looking forward to the next phase of Dy’s future. I definitely recommend this book! This Review is copyrighted. Please do not share without giving Paranormal Reads/Erin full credit.
I loved this book. I haven't read much about Fae's,warriors or anything magical before. I started reading it one evening and wasn't able to put the book down, until I was finished reading it. It keeps you thinking of what is going to happen next in a small town where Dy lives. I can't wait until the other books come out and the next adventures they will take me. I am totally in love with this book.
What a wonderful, fanciful, exciting book! It mixes intrigue with the mystical world of wonder. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and would recommend it to everyone. The story started out very exciting with family dynamics and drama and quickly took a totally different turn to a place I had never heard of.....FABULOUS read!
I received this book as part of a giveaway on a book blog and dove right into it! I was most certainly not disappointed! C.L. Champlain did an awesome job making all the characters real, well, as real as fairies can be :) I love them all, well except Dick (Richard, the father). But the point was for us not to like him. I honestly had not read any blurbs about the book or any reviews going into this. I think that my only dislike of the book is that the Druids are the bad guys. As a lover of history and all things magical, I might have been a little happier if a group had just been made up to play the bad guys. But, it's fiction, and the story was still very well written. Dy (Dorothy... her mother is a huge Wizard of Oz fan so there are a lot of references throughout the book. And yes, both daughters are named after characters.... I was kind of surprised they didn't have a dog named Toto...but there was a reference about Dick not allowing one) is a strong character. She's no non-sense, snarky (which I love in a heroine) and totally in love with Ari! Her sister Emma isn't as strong a character, but you learn why and realize that she fits into the role she was meant to play very well. Grace, their mother, comes across as weak; and you wonder why she would stay in such an abusive relationship, especially when it could be detrimental to her daughters, but again, by the end of the book that is explained as well (I'm trying really hard to not give spoilers here!). Dick is the father and well, he really lives up to his name! He's abusive and just all around a nasty guy, but he seems to withhold his abuse when it comes to Dy. Dy tries really hard to occupy him with things he loves to keep him away from her mom and sister. She goes fishing and hunting with him. Her boyfriend, Ari, usually tags along to help keep that peace as well. Ari is awesome!! Ari's mom is Marie and she loves Dy just as much as Ari does. There's a whole slew of supporting characters that you come to love throughout this book as well. We'd be here all day explaining who they are and what roles they play! They all live in the small town of Argyl, NY and it sounds like the ideal place to live! I do have to be honest that I was confused by the title of the book until the end. I kept thinking "What in the world does this have to do with this book?" But in the end it becomes apparent why Grace needed to be "saved". If you love all things Fae, you will love this book. The author really puts her own little spin on things. I had to immediately buy the next 2 books in this series to see where the characters are led next!
C.L. Champlain paints a mystical, magical world with her words in this Fae of Lee novel. I thoroughly enjoyed leaving my world and entering the world of Dy and her supernatural family and friends. The novel pulled me in from the beginning with Dy's spunk - a spunk I might add that matches her grandmother's. Ari is the perfect Fae hero - noble and loyal and handsome. Not to mention, when Dy just "thinks" of Ari, he comes running. And then there's Declan - another handsome Fae warrior that enters Dy's world and aids in protecting her.
But it's not all sunshine and roses. No. There are evil people in Dy's world...right under her own roof. And because of that, Ari must find out more about her secret life - the one she just learned she had - to help save her mother.
Saving Grace is a wonderfully, beautiful, magical story filled with characters you can fall in love with.
I can't wait for the next book in the series. Thank you, C.L., for creating this magnificently enchanting world.
**i received a copy of this book in return for an honest review**
Wow! I absolutely positively loved this book! From the very beginning this book had me hooked and in love with everyone (except Dick).
Dy is such a strong beautiful woman, very relatable! Ari makes my heart melt and breaks it when I know he is hurting. Declan is hilarious, and his accent plays in my head among him 10x hotter!
This is a beautiful introduction to the Fae world, and feels so realistic. Champlain did an amazing job immersing you into the story through details and writing that I was there. I could see it all and live it all. The book called to my own Scot-Irish heritage and the Gaelic is a genuine touch that I knew enough to get my adrenaline going, hart pounding, and stomach clenching!
Brilliant story!I am in love! Can not wait for the next book!
what a great fun read. fae vs druids. starts with Dy a high school student in a small town with a family secret. soon, everything Dy thought was real in her life is turned upside down. The relationships feel genuine and the story builds gradually culminating in heart break but also a strong feeling of hope for the future. strongly recommend to all.
I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Saving Grace was a sweet, paranormal romance. Meet Dy, short for Dorothy, a 16 year old who finds out she is half fairy princess and half druid. Her boyfriend, Ari, is a warrior Fae. Dy has always had unusual abilities, she can see auras. Dy and Ari are soul mates, and because of this Dy's great-grandmother assigns another warrior Fae to help protect her, Declan. Declan, with his Irish brogue, and Ari, along with a wide array of characters, help Dy to learn her new powers and help to keep her safe from the druids that want to harm her. I loved the powers the Fae had in this book, magic wands and the ability to make their clothes with their thoughts. It is a refreshing take on the Fae. I also enjoyed the fun references to The Wizard of Oz, that's where Dorothy and her sister Emma Rose got their names from. Overall, this was a fun, easy read with a happy ending. I can't wait to read about their adventures in the next book.
What a nice refreshing, light read! The stream of consciousness narration makes the characters really approachable and loveable. Interesting twist on the coming of age story. Really enjoyed it.
There were some formatting issues involving numbers, spacing, etc due to this being a new author, however, the story itself is enjoyable and endearing and sets up book 2 very well.
Favorite quotes: "Wouldn't someone evil know that they were evil? How would I know? There should be a book 'Are you evil for Dummies' I think it would be helpful."
"They want to kill the Princesses of my home. I'm not here to play Yahtzee."
Recommend as a light, fun read, and preparing to dive into book 2 - Soul Mates - Bound by Blood!
I found this book to be more than I expected. I'm usually not a big fan of mystical reads, but this was definitely an exception. I loved the small town setting. It made me feel right at home. The characters were so fun that I found myself laughing out loud at their quick wit and sarcasm. The storyline flowed so easily, and I loved the element of suspense as well. There were some moments of laughter, tears and fear - and some moments that I was so wrapped up in them all that I couldn't stop reading.
I enjoyed this book. It was my first paranormal romance and I'm still on the fence. The characters were very relatable, especially the main character and princess warrior fae, Dorothy. She reacts to situations like I would. She has an adorable Irish temper that I love. She has two warrior fae to protect her, not that she needs much protecting. Ari is her soul mate and Declan was appointed by the Queen of Faeland. The three of them have a very humorous relationship that is sometimes a little sexy.
I loved this book! I loved Dy's dry wit and sarcasm. I read the majority of this book over the past 10 hours, and just could not put it down. My favorite line in the whole book: "This is your brain, on Fae. Ugh." I laughed out loud quite a few times. Humorous, interesting, and imaginative. I could easily picture each of the characters as I was reading. I would love to see a picture of Declan, in his true fae form. He sounds hot! Ms. Champlain did an amazing job!
Great book. Very catching from the beginning. Good development of the story. As I was reading it I just felt I wanted to know more about Fae world and of course about Dy, Ari and Declan. I can't wait to read the second one. I received a free arc in exchange for a review.
