ARC received from Author in exchange for an honest review.

This was a solid 4.5 stars for me. Typically I tend to give novellas ratings that reflect the length, since it can be hard to fully grip the reader in such a short span of time. For me, this was a different reading experience since I had already read Lost in Distraction & Lost for You. My experience really was not just this book, but the combined experience with both this and the the last book in the series. Rating based on not only the story & writing, but what this novella ended up providing me; closure.

For those that have not yet read this series, this novella and the reviews from readers might give away a very key part of the series. I will try my best to refrain from doing just that.

Shay has a reputation, one he's enjoyed building over the years. A little rough around the edges, but deep down a guy that has a good heart and wants to be much more than he used to be. He may work for an guy that's on the wrong side of the law, but his job is clearly on the other. He had a happy life with the best friend a guy could ask for, money and women. He didn't know what he was missing until he saw her.

Brenna has wanted nothing more than to be out from under the thumb of her father, once she realized just what he did for a living - it was not the life she wanted and he certainly wasn't a man she could respect. But being the baby and the only girl in the family made it hard for her to escape his reach. Forced to work for his security company, she is saddled with babysitter. A man that is expected to take her to and from work... not a man that she was suppose to fall in love with.

This is the story of Shay & Brenna, the love that we read about in bits and pieces during Lost in Distraction & Lost for You. The day they met, the day their world changes forever and the day that they finally find each other again. This is the story of a love coming full circle, redemption and salvation.

I fell completely in love with the bad-boy with a soft heart as I watched him stand on the sidelines as Brax and Elise fell in love. There was always something so haunting and tragic about Shay in both books. After finishing Lost for You, my heart broke a little. I knew I needed more of this man, but wasn't sure if my emotions could handle it. This was the perfect little piece of his story that needed to be told, not only to give us the added time with such a lovable character, but to complete his story in the most perfect way.

I started this with a bit of fear that I would be a little bit of an emotional wreck, but I actually felt peace. Now, that doesn't mean that little burn in my throat didn't happen or that I didn't have one hell of a time swallowing that damn lump, but it just felt like everything fit into place; as it was meant to be. This novella gives you the closure to the story that we were lacking and it also made me feel a lot better about the way the series concluded.

Thank you BJ for this little nugget and for giving us more of Shay. You could just moved on from these characters but you gave us the gift of a little more time and the story needed to understand the Shay and why he made the choices he made.

First of all, I have to say I was reluctant to start reading Lost without You and I even had to take a break about half way through, even though it’s only a novella. I wasn’t reluctant because of the author. I have LOVED all of BJ Harvey’s books, but because I knew what was going to happen.
I also had to think how I explain this experience. No, I didn’t use the incorrect word because it was an experience. I found it impossible just to read Lost without You as a casual observer. This is how I could best explain it in ‘everyday’ language.
You know when you have a really bad toothache and you know you have to go to the dentist? BTW, I hate going to the dentist and when I say hate, I mean REALLY hate. So you make the appointment, but just beforehand the pain stops. At this stage, I’m always in two minds whether I should go or not, but I usually go ahead and keep the appointment.
So when you are at the dentist, you still experience some pain BUT once everything has settled down the relief is amazing! So that is the best way, I can describe my experience of reading Lost without You. Yes, I felt some pain and I cried but, at the end, I also felt the relief I gained from closure. BJ Harvey has healed my open wound.
I also have to say that I think that this is the best writing that BJ Harvey has ever done. Even though this was only a novella with limited words, there were a few times that I stopped and reread a sentence or two and I even highlighted a couple, her writing was THAT good. Her mastery of the written word allowed me to feel exactly what Shay and Brenna felt.
I gave Lost without You 5 out of 5 stars, but they were damn big ones!

4.5 choked up stars.

Since when did novellas become so emotional and heartbreaking? Lost Without You was a beautiful addition to the Lost series. It can be read as a standalone; but, personally, I would read it after Lost for You and Lost In Distraction. That’s what I did, and although I have no doubts that this story would be amazing enough without reading the other two books in the series, I feel like it hit my heart a lot harder reading it with the knowledge of what happens in the first two books. I’m going to try my best to think of LWY as a standalone in order to prevent spoilers.

“So color me stupid that I would be the one left speechless the day I met Brenna Bertorelil, the one woman who didn’t want anything to do with me. The same woman who would capture my heart and make me truly believe in the notion of soul mates.”

Before there was Brax and Ellie, there was Shay and Brenna… We meet Shay in LFY and LID as Brax’s best friend. They’re both in the security business, which is how they both meet the loves of their lives. LWY mostly takes place before the Brax meets Ellie, with some overlaps of course. I was cracking up from the moment Brenna meets Shay. It was love at first sight. They just didn’t know it yet.

“She’s hot, and feisty, exactly what I like in a woman. Couldn’t Victor have an ugly fucking daughter? Of course not–she has to be gorgeous and tight in all the right places, and fuck me if that body isn’t designed to bring a man to his knees.”

Their chemistry from the moment they met was explosive. I was instantly in love with the two of them and their relationship. At first, they aggravate each other. Shay thinks that she’s the spoiled princess brat of his mafia boss, and Brenna thinks he’s a cocky idiot. A few moments in the car quickly changes that. After a heart-to-heart, they realize that they were wrong about each other and Shay asks Brenna to go out with him and give him a chance to prove he’s worthy of her *sigh*.

“There were a few boyfriends during my time at Cornell, but nothing serious, and none of them set my heart racing like Shay does. He’s cocky, and on the sexy side of arrogant, but the man he’s shown himself to be during the short time we’ve had together has done nothing to turn me off.”

Everything kinda goes quickly from there. I desperately tried to slow down and savor each moment, but I was too captivated by Shay and Brenna. With a novella, the author has to choose which moments to elaborate on and which moments to skim over. BJ Harvey surprised me which moments she chose to highlight, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I loved it. There were some bumps along the road, like Brenna’s dad not approving of their relationship. And since he’s Shay’s boss and also a killer he tries to keep them apart, but, of course, that doesn’t happen according to his plans.

“With Brenna, I’m finding that I want her with an intensity that takes even my breath away. Two weeks and I can’t wait to talk to her, see her, touch her.”

I loved how once they gave their relationship a chance, they quickly accepted that they were meant to be. This book was the epitome of “once you know, you know”. I was dying over how cute they were together. Their banter made me chuckle, the moments they realized they were falling more and more for each other made me swoon, and the way they opened up to each other so fully and so quickly made my heart melt. I never wanted it to end.

“We loved each other. We said it only a month after we met, but it was like it always has been between us—a well-tuned machine that has been working to perfection its whole life.”

Shay is way more perfect than I expected him to be from LFY and LID. I didn’t realize he had a past and secrets that he kept inside. He treats Brenna like a princess, even though she doesn’t act like one. Every time he calls her “cupcake” it made me grin ear to ear. Brenna was so feisty, strong, and stubborn. She cracked me up and always kept Shay on his toes. Together they were more than perfect. They brought out the best in each other, changed each other, made each other deliriously happy, and fit together in more ways than one.

“As I told Victor and Brax, it doesn’t matter if I’ve only known her six months. IT could be six minutes, six weeks, six months, or six years—she is it for me, and she has told me I’m it for her.”

The ending gutted me. Have you ever sobbed without any tears coming out? That was me (I don’t cry). The entire time. I knew how it would end. But, Lost Without You is an emotional overload. I couldn’t have imagined a more perfect way to end their story. It was beautiful, poignant, and way more than I could have dreamed. I think I say this every time I read a BJ Harvey book, but her books get better and better each time. I’m in love. This novella is definitely one of my favorites. For those who have read LFY and LID and don’t think you want to read this. You better read it. Or I’ll find you.

“If I die young...if for some reason I die before you, I’ll wait for you, Shay McCarron. I’ll wait until your dying day, until you take your last breath on this earth, and then I’ll be there to hold your hand as we guide each other toward the light. Two lost souls who found each other in life, finding each other again in death, I promise you.”

BJ Harvey did it again. I really love her writing style. This book captured my heart. This story is so sad, but beautifully written.

This is a story about Shay and Brenna. It`s written from male and female POV.

Before Shay met Brenna, all he cared were fast cars, money and women, but she changed him forever.

Brenna - "One minute. That is how long it took to change the course of my life forever."
Shay - "The day I met her - Suddenly everything felt very right."

I loved how they met. She was so mad at him for walking in her bedroom, when she was sleeping - naked.

The whole story was captivating, I wish it was longer. And their love for one another - hardcore, intense, all-consuming.

"Ever since we`ve met, we`ve just fit - two perfectly matched pieces that together make a whole lot of sense."

The story is about the day they met, the day their world changed forever and the day that they finally found each other again.

Perfect end to a beautiful series!!

Decent but didn't enjoy writing style
I didn't care for the writing style..parts were too choppy and didn't flow well, or would say they were one person's POV and switch to another's unannounced, and overall grammatical errors. Overall the story was decent but I just felt it could have been better. I bought this while on sale for .99 so I feel I got what I paid for in the end.

**JOSIE'S REVIEW**

*5 SHAYTASTIC STARS*

I just love BJ Harvey’s books, especially the Lost Series I fell in love with Shay and I was so excited that we were going to get his story. This book is a short read but it got me from page 1 and it owns my heart. It’s beautiful but a sad love story and it is so touching. If you have not read the first 2 books in this series, please do. It helped me more in understanding the magnitude of this Novella. What made it even more enjoyable for me was that it was told in Shay and Brenna’s POVs.

Shay did not believe in true love, he thought it was just crap. He led the bachelor life…no commitments, fast cars and making fast money. The second he met Brenna, Shay’s life was changed forever.

Brenna’s family name, Bertorelli, came with a lot of bad. She did not want to have that last name, and she did not want to have anything to do with the family’s illegal lifestyle. She knew when she was 16, what her family did. She saw her father shoot a teenage boy 2 times in his chest, right in front of her.

Brenna and Shay met, while Shay was doing his job, to protect Breanna. He busted in her bedroom, stood at the end of her bed and smirked. Brenna figured if she screamed her father or brothers would save her, but that did not happen, and so it began. It took Breena all but a minute to realize Shay was her soul mate and her life to change forever.

“Get the F**k out of here, asshole! You just f**ked off the wrong F**king woman. Get the F**k out.”

“Sorry didn’t realize you’d be naked. Just doing my job. No can do. I have orders to escort you personally to work this morning.”

Even though their story is a short one, I loved it so much. You felt their instant attraction. It was intense, all-consuming and natural. Shay and Brenna are so blunt with one another, it is so funny.

"I don’t even know your name! And anyway, why would I want to talk to one of my father’s underlings who probably doesn’t even know his head from his a**? Hell, even your hot a** muscle car is probably paid for with dirty f**king money.”

“My name is Shay, and this hot ass muscle car is mine and mine alone. No dirty f**king money involved. And I can assure you right now, I definitely know my head from my a**. I also know where you’re a** and head are, and right now one is stuck so far up the other, it’s a wonder you don’t need breath mints.”

Shay and Brenna’s relationship is so fun to read. They are easy to get along with and their banter, is a breath of fresh air. It is different and interesting.

“I’d like to take the beautiful sexy, hot as sin Brenna Bertorelli out for dinner tonight. What do you say cupcake?”

“Shay I was just about to let loose a sh*t fight of epic proportions down the phone.”

“You just want to get in my pants.”

“You didn’t where pants to bed.”

“F**k cupcake, sweet as f**king honey.”

Shay and Brenna immediately started a relationship, one in which neither did not regret. Shay gave up the fast life and was about Brenna and Brenna was all about Shay, regardless of what her father Victor said. Victor does everything is his power to ruin Shay and Brenna’s relationship, eventually he sees that they are going to stay together and he warns Shay.

“Her safety, her happiness, f**k, the cleanliness of the air she breathes, that is all on you. If anything I do comes even close to touching by daughter, I’m holding you responsible.”

I cannot say much about the ending of this story because I do not want to spoil it for those that have not read the series. I knew what to expect but it did not change the feeling I had when that moment happened in the story. I was just as torn up as the first time (I MEAN UGLY BABY CRY). It was the night that changed Shay and Brenna’s life forever. This Novella is about their first encounter, the day their worlds would change forever and the day they would finally be together forever. Damn you BJ, I was a mess! I am still going through it, but I loved every single bit of it. I remember I wanted into Shay’s mind and I am glad I got that. I LOVED THIS NOVELLA! Read it.

“Brenna will you be my wife, my lover, my soul mate, my forever?”

"Yes.”

“Do you think our souls go on after we die?”

“I don’t know Cupcake. I’d like to hope they do. I’d like to think that if anything happened to one of us, we’d wait around for the other would to join us, then we could move on together.”

Why in the world would you want to read a book when you know what happens in the end? That’s the best part, the end, where you get to find out if the hero finds his true love, if he gets his happily ever after. So why in the world would you want to read a book where you know what happens at the end? I knew going into Lost Without You (Lost #2.5) how Shay’s story would end, but after he stole my heart in Lost In Distraction (Lost #1) there was no way I could refuse the chance to get more Shay. Even if I know the outcome would be the same.

In Lost In Distraction and Lost For You, BJ Harvey gives us just enough information about Shay to drive us wild. Because the first two books focus on Brax and Elle we know how Shay and Brax met, a little about Shay’s time in the army, and how he came to work for Victor. But, besides a few bits here and there we don’t know much about his love life except he was once madly in love and now he only has hookups with meaningless women. Until now.

They say when you die your life flashes before your eyes. That’s the perfect way to describe this novella. At first I wasn’t sure if I would like the way this book is written, but as I read on I realized it fit the story perfectly. Lost Without You takes these perfect moments from Shay’s life, the moment he met Brenna, the first time they made love, and strings them together to make a slide show of their relationship. These perfect moments flash before our eyes leading up to Shay’s death, as if we’re watching along with Shay as the scenes play before him. It’s beautiful and heartbreaking . . . and perfect.

I’m not going to go into long observations about characters or dynamics. If you’re reading this book you’re a fan of the Lost series and you already love Shay, plus novellas are short and I want you to experience the characters without running anything for you. So, why in the world would you want to read a book when you know what happens in the end? Well, maybe sometimes it’s not the end that’s important, maybe it’s the moments that flash before them.

Lost Without You is Shay and Brenna’s story. It’s the story I have been waiting to read ever since I finished Lost for You. The ending to book two just about killed me, but it also made me want to hear Shay’s story. I wanted to understand the reasons behind his player lifestyle; his need to remain unattached from anyone but Brax and Elle. Shay’s relationship/closeness with Elle proved to me that he was more than capable of love, so I knew the loss that Brax tiptoes around with Shay was beyond devastating, and boy was I right!

One Year Earlier – this is where Shay and Brenna’s story begins, and even though their first encounter doesn’t go so well, the attraction between them exists from the very beginning. Despite Brenna’s father’s ploys to break them up, they remain together and fall hopelessly in love, but readers already know that the end to their story is not a happy one, and the events that lead to Brenna being stripped from Shay’s life are excruciating, especially when her father told Shay to not let anything happen to Brenna.

After reading their story, it totally makes sense why Shay was the way he was in the other two books in the series. Lost Without You completed the series for me; I needed to know Shay’s past to accept what happened in his present. Shay’s life was never complete after Brenna, and even though, the ended of Lost for You was hard to accept – Shay got what he wanted….what he needed to be whole again. The words BJ Harvey wrote at the end of the text from Shay’s perspective are beyond amazing…they are the perfect sentiment of Shay’s love for Brenna. I couldn’t have asked for a better story!

So, this is the companion Novella to BJ Harvey's 'Lost' series. It is Shay and Brenna's story.
I was really not sure if I was going to enjoy this. I say that because although I knew it would be great, I didn't know if I could revisit something that had previously threatened to break my heart!!
I needn't have worried. I was perfect. I love Shay even more now, he's hot and cocky and totally adorable. He is so fiercely protective and not only did he love Brenna, he adored her. This shone through, bright and beautiful.
I loved that we got the opportunity to get to know Brenna a little too. If i'm honest, I was always slightly jealous of the woman that had completely captured Shay's heart but now I understand why. She was just kickass cool. She suited Shay down to the ground and I am so pleased we had an insight into their time together (albeit too short time.)
This Novella, although heartbreaking all over again, gives a sense of closure. I'm not happy that things happened that way but some good things have to end. It's real life. Not everyone has a happily ever after. But, this little book gives me the feeling that they are happy, even if it's not in this life.
Peace, closure, serenity.
Perfect.

My love, my light, my soul. My Brenna.

I remember telling BJ through the writing of this story, “You’re going to kill me.” Then as I started reading it and falling even more in love with Shay, I told her, “Ugh, You are killing me.” And in the end, I told her, “Damn you!!! (Explicit), I’m crying like a baby. That was (explicit) AWESOME! But I hate you. The last five lines were perfection.” No exaggeration here, I really did say that to her.

I knew from reading Lost For You that this novella was going to tear me up, but I wasn’t prepared for the heartache it caused. I didn’t know about Shay’s time with Brenna. Reading how they met, and how they fell in love, made it that much better. I really loved Shay and how protective he was. I hated that life handed him lemons, but in the end I guess, he was happy, finally. So as not to spoil for those who have not read this series, I’ll let you know that this novella fills in the time where Shay found Brenna and you get to know him a little better. Be prepared to cry. I’m not talking a tear, I’m talking a full on ugly cry. At least that’s how it was for me. Thank You, BJ Harvey for more Shay.

Wow.....what a story!

We finally figure out what is going on with Shay......

Told in a dual POV of both Shay and Brenna we get to see the man behind the hero.

And it was a fantastic story. Everything down to the way him and Brenna met to the way they come back together in the end.

Shay is working for Brenna's father and has been given the job as her taxi driver, make sure that she gets to work.....sounds easy enough....WRONG!!

Brenna is sick to death of her Father and his hench-men so she is determined not to make this easy for Shay. But what she considers being difficult he is considering foreplay!

This is just a short book describing how these two fell in love, how they came to be together, how they encountered tragedy of the worse possible kind and how it all comes together in the end.

I was really dreading going into this story as we all know what happened in the last book, but BJ Harvey wrote a beautiful story and it really did have the perfect ending.

I just wish it had been longer

Lost series is a gripping, phenomenal, jaw-dropping rollercoaster that takes your breath away.

The first two books in the Lost series follow the story of Elle and Brax. Their story is emotionally charged. After you finish reading them, you will need a few minutes to process what you read and get your emotions under control.

I was left speechless because it was so… amazing and addictive. My emotions were all over the place. Just loved it.

In Lost Without You we get Shay´s story. His story is poignant, sad, touching and… beautiful.

I love BJ´s writing style. It is hooking and picturesque. And I found myself enraptured by her stories.

Can´t wait to read more from her.

I love this series and highly recommend it because it is a MUST read.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!

FINALLY! I am an adamant happily-ever-after kind of gal, but this story definitely appealed to my dark side. I suppose if you've read the other books in the series, the ending did not come as a surprise...but what a fantastic ending. A friend asked me if this book made me cry and I said no. Not because I'm a stone cold b*&%h, it was because I thought it was beautiful, hopeful, what I think every single one of us hopes will happen when we reach the end of our own story. I gave this novella five sparkling stars.

Of course I was super excited to start this book since I fell in love with Shay in the other Lost series books. Even though I knew what the outcome at the end of this book was going to be before I started it didn't take away from the emotion I felt while reading it. I bawled my eyes out. BJ Harvey has an amazing ability to make me absorb myself in her writing and really feel the emotion. This is most definitely a 5 star read for me!

I don't enjoy this book not because of the ending but because I don't like the heroine the way she dealt with her father without respect and forgot he was the one who provided everything in her life. If she is so righteous and can't stand her father shaddy business, why didn't she try to stand on her our feet and be independent.

I'm ugly crying OMG! What an amazing story about Shay and his Brenna. Ugh how unfair life can be. In the end, they're together forever but at what cost? ONE CLICK SERIOUSLY and make sure you're alone cuz you will cry!
