Let me be very clear on this; Emotions play a crucial role in designing your mind and body. You might have come across individuals who take pride in saying that - Things don’t affect them easily.

Well, let me break the ice for you. Our specialty to feel something or go through a set of thoughts makes us humans.

Stephanie Catella who is a PSYD (Doctor of Psychology) and Matthew McKay who holds a PhD explains the detailed version of emotional intelligence and ways to work on them, so that you build a strong and better relationships not only with other but also with your own feelings.

With 11 chapters, covering across the landscape the book guides you through basic to advance practices of managing your emotions. The book teaches about the importance of separating oneself with overwhelming emotions. On the other hand, the book also clarifies details on how we can ride through different emotional wave and still be intact and not let it affect us.

Communication being the most important aspect of emotions, the book teaches how to express emotions clearly and listen actively, fostering better understanding and stronger relationships. The book also offers techniques to enhance empathy and build emotional connections, which are essential for personal and professional relationships.

The penultimate chapter discusses the importance of regular practice in developing EI skills. It includes exercises and real life scenarios to help readers integrate these skills into their daily lives.

The best part about the book is it not only in the details but also within the exercises that every chapter contains. This will help readers learn more about EI on the go. A well written book that is enjoyable and motivating at the same time.

The emotional intelligence skills workbook is an amazing tool for folks seeking a self help book, clients already in therapy and wanting a supplement to their work and clinicians alike.

The book synthesizes all of the most salient skills from emotion efficacy therapy (an approach grounded in skills to expose self to difficult emotions and act in more values aligned ways) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapt to help people learn how to ride emotional waves, manage the emotions that can get in the way of connecting in a values aligned way and learn how to communicate more skillfully.

So many of us think we are “good communicators” and have “emotional intelligence” because we are successful at work or have been told we are empathic. However, nearly all of us could benefit from learning more skills to support emotional intelligence.

This book encourages folks to dig deeper and recognize that true emotional intelligence is linked to the ability to identify, cope and regulate emotions, and connect thoughtfully and skillfully with others.

A must read!

This valuable resource was packed with evidence-based strategies to navigate challenging conversations while nurturing meaningful relationships with friends, family, and colleagues. I am a sucker for PRACTICAL support, and the worksheets were incredibly useful in helping me apply the strategies to my everyday life. I have ADHD, and my emotions can feel overwhelming and intense at times. I recently had an upsetting interaction with my boss and used "Situation-Specific Coping Thoughts" for distressing situations with intense emotions. It helped me "ride the wave" of emotional intensity and return to an emotionally regulated state. Having a go-to guide (and worksheets!) at my fingertips has been a game changer. I cannot think of one person who does not need these strategies. Life is stressful; emotional dysregulation makes it more challenging, so get some practical tools and coping strategies with this book!

What surprised me about this workbook is how it weaves together so many of the tools, practices, exercises and strategies I’ve used to advance along my path of personal growth over the last four decades.

Meandering towards self awareness had its benefits,, to be sure. Still, I wish I’d had this skills builder presented to me with my high school diploma. Might have had a much less dramatic ride through my twenties, if I did.

The path Catella and McKay lay out for the reader is sectioned into bite sized chapters, which allow one to build a repertoire of tools and skills at their own pace. I indulged in many of the reflective exercises myself, and found great value in doing so.

Rarely would I say this about something in a workbook format, but before I was even finished reading it, I felt like I had an old friend in the room. Familiar, comforting, beneficial. That’s a recommendation, folks!

I have personally worked with a therapist for many years and have also participated in personal growth and development programs such as Landmark Forum. While therapists and workshops often bring valuable expertise and insights, conveying the skills of emotional intelligence is often lacking

The good news is that Dr. Steph Catella’s new workbook makes the acquisition of emotional intelligence skills accessible to anyone. This essential skill set enhances communication effectiveness across many of life’s significant areas.

The workbook is both informative and engaging, requiring active participation through numerous exercises and worksheets, which are also available online. It’s a practical and user-friendly guide for anyone committed to personal growth and developing emotional intelligence.

The Emotional Intelligence Skills Workbook is a thoroughly enjoyable read. Elegantly clear writing makes challenging, thought provoking concepts accessible and easy to understand.
Catella breaks our endlessly complex experience of emotions into their component parts, explains how to steer these experiences toward growth, insight, and away from self-destructive or harmful reactions. The workbook exercises then cement each lesson, helping you to internalize the material. While everyone can truly benefit and learn from Emotional Intelligence Skills, there is most likely someone in your life who *needs* to read this book. (I promptly bought copies for some of my family members). My highest recommendations!

Clear, accessible book. The worksheets are useful, easy to use, step by step. I appreciate I can go on line and print them out. The free tools on the Harbinger website are a great help. I will be going back to this book again and again. It can be used as a resource, in addition to working through it from beginning to end. I can go to the section I might need right now or as a refresher.
Most of all, I like the tone of voice of the authors... kind, reasonable, friendly and helpful. While the book is very professional and the authors are obviously trained and skilled, they have written a book that feels enjoyable and confident and practices what it teaches. I highly recommend.

This book will be an incredible, practical partner to your talk therapy. I love the work I do with my therapist, but in the time between sessions I sometimes feel lost when trying to apply that work to specific situations. This book helps to recognize the tools I have, and is a step-by-step guide on how to use them. Game changer! I struggle with anxiety so I especially liked the chapter on managing overwhelming emotions. Seeing those techniques in black and white is such a great resource. Highly recommend.

This workbook is packed full of things that are easy to use and more importantly practical to anyone looking to boost their skills in Emotional Intelligence. While this workbook is an excellent accompaniment to therapy, it stands alone and compels the reader on an inward journey guiding them through useful exercises and strategies. The scenarios are real and don't feel forced for effect, the writing is earnest, easy to follow and intentional in the authors' desire to help. I highly recommend this workbook!

As an early career psychotherapist who relies heavily on EET and ACT, I could not have asked for a more helpful resource than this book. I have been seeking better language to describe my clinical approaches, better metaphors for ACT concepts, and better tools and more targeted handouts to give clients. This book provided exactly what I wanted.
