I read Rising Assets immediately after a really depressing and frustrating read, thinking that I needed something hot, fun, and passionate with very little drama or angst to get me back into a decent mood. Rising Assets was that and much more being one of my favorite types of romance: friends-to-lovers! Add in sexy, bossy cowboys, and loving family and I was back in book bliss!
Melanie, Colton, and Hawk have been best friends while growing up in the small town of Mineral Lake, Montana. Melanie has always felt an attraction for Colton but never wanted to take it to the next level because she’s the many women come and go and didn’t want to ruin their relationship for a short time of passion. When Colton comes back from college and finds out Melanie is having some financial difficulty, he steps in to help and won’t take no for an answer. Colton is more possessive since returning and in a heated argument, anger turns to lust and they cross boundaries. This couldn’t happen at a worse time because Melanie is looking to fool around, especially when her biological clock demands immediate attention.
Colton is shocked to find out Melanie is in trouble and didn’t share it with him. She’s working three jobs killing herself, and Colton is not about to just sit by and watch. Not when he has the ability to step in and help. More shocking though is the intense feelings he’s having for Mel, sure he’s always found her hot, but now he can’t fight his possessive and protective feelings he has for her, especially when he finds out what’s really at the bottom of all Mel’s problems.
Everyone but Mel and Colt realize they’re meant-to-be, and it’s just a matter of time before they clue in. The minute Colt returns you can feel the sexual tension pulsing between these two! Like I said in the outset I wanted a romance with little angst, and that’s what I got. Instead, I had fun with the push and pull, and the payoffs were flipping hot! His bossy and controlling ways transferred to the bedroom which made for some fiery scenes!
“I like to be in control in the bedroom, and you like giving it up.” She gasped and jerked away. “I do not.” Oh yeah. Cat and mouse. One of his favorite games—and one he’d bet Melanie had never played. He leaned in until his mouth rested against her ear. “Sure you do. I bet you’re wet right now.”
Whoa!
I loved the small town and big family dynamic! Colt’s family, especially his mom was just lovely to Mel.
This romance was rich in a supportive cast, and I just love it when there’s a solid family/friend structure.
This is the third story in the Maverick Montana series, but you don’t need to read the first books to enjoy this. You do get glimpses of the previous couples, so this would be a treat for any who’ve read the earlier books. Hawk This is the second book I’ve read by Rebecca Zanetti and it won’t be the last.
