I enjoyed this lovely small-town romance. It’s part of the Big Sky Amish series, and I did read the first two books, and really loved this third book in the series. I loved the setting in West Kootenai Montana. UNDER THE BLUE SKIES is funny, sweet, and heartbreaking all at once.

Thomas and Lovina don’t want to get into a relationship, but their chemistry is strong, and they have so much in common. Thomas, feeling that he is just like his father, never wants to be married or have a family. I liked this slow-burn romance and liked that Thomas and Lovina spent some time together before the romance set in. Five-year-old Emily, Thomas’ niece is a nice addition to the story. I just can’t resist a good single-dad story. Overall UNDER THE BLUE SKIES is a sweet, charming story with a satisfying romance.

Tricia Goyer sure knows how to make the reader feel as if they are right there at the kitchen table with the family dealing with all their troubles. UNDER THE BLUE SKIES will surely give you all the feels and keep you thinking about these wonderful people long after you finish reading. If you love Amish fiction yet are tired of the same old, same old, I highly recommend that you give UNDER THE BLUE SKIES a try – I am sure you will enjoy it!

I highly recommend UNDER THE BLUE SKIES to anyone who enjoys Amish Fiction with a touch of romance.

Under the Blue Skies is the third book in the Big Sky Amish series and a collaboration between authors Tricia Goyer and Elly Gilbert. Though my first read in the series I had no problem reading this as a standalone and understanding the story.
Taking place in West Kootena, Montana Big Sky Country. Despite never having had the pleasure of visiting Montana I loved the descriptions of the openness of this area.
This is Thomas Smucker and Lovina Graber's story.
He is grumpy, she is sunshine. He just needs a new start in life, moving on from his past.
After a childhood accident leaves her scarred Lovina longs for all the things the other women in her community want, romance, that special relationship and children. When her last romance leaves her guy shy about being in a new relationship, she resigns herself to the fact of being an old amid despite keeping the slight possibility alive of more someday.
Keeping to himself is the best way Thomas knows of to keep his past in the past. If he doesn't make friends with anyone he won't have to talk about his past. When a tragedy in his family leaves him responsible for his niece his whole perspective changes. As he and Lovina talk, we learn his back story and the secret he's been keeping that has him feeling ill prepared for the duties suddenly thrust upon him. Will this be Lovina's chance to have what she's been dreaming of for such a long time? Such a beautiful story of trusting God with your worries and knowing he can work through all things large and small.
Highly recommended. I will be reading more of this author.

I’m so happy to be back in the delightful small town of West Kootenai, Montana, a place where Amish and Englishers live and work together harmoniously.
Lovina Graber is a wonderful woman who has given up on love. Rather, she’s made herself believe that it is the Lord’s wish that due to her physical limitations and looks, that she be a “helper to others”…for life.
Thomas Smucker is new to town, a man hoping a fresh start in life will help heal him from how he was raised. A man, due to his upbringing, is convinced he can never be a husband or father.
Right after Thomas arrives in town, he finds out he has an orphaned niece, a charming spitfire of a five-year-old named Emily, and he’s the only kin left. Thomas feels woefully unprepared to be a guardian to Emily, but Lovina and her family are there to help.
Thomas and Lovina are both weary from carrying around heavy emotional baggage, though each try not to show it. A repeat verse in this book is Romans 8:28 - “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God…”(NKJV), but I think another verse that applies is Matthew 11:28 - “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (NKJV)
Can Thomas and Lovina each loosen their grasps on their own plans for their lives, and let the Lord give them rest? Maybe even open their eyes to see Him working things - THEM - together for good?
You will want to find out in Under the Blue Skies, plus it has my favorite…an epilogue!
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but my opinion is entirely my own.

4.5 stars but rounded up to 5 stars since I cannot specify 4/5 stars here. Read the ARC via Kindle, courtesy of the publisher. All opinions and views are my own.

I truly enjoyed every minute of this book. I found Lovina so endearing. Emily, the niece to Thomas, is precocious but a sweetheart. She just needed a place to be loved, accepted, and safe. Thomas is prickly but he grew on me. I found myself cheering for him and respecting how he viewed Lovina as beautiful and capable.

Seeing Lovina and Thomas overcome their self-imposed underwhelming lots in life was heartwarming. I think we all tend to limit ourselves and be our own worst critics.

I feel invested in this community and I suspect this won’t be the end of our time with the Big Sky Amish. Ike and Annie need their story. I’d even like to see the awful Dorcas face the truth of who she is, grow up, and get her happy ending.

A great debut for Elly Gilbert! Congrats to her and to her mentor, Tricia Goyer.

As Amish stories go, I feel this is one of the best I've read this year, and can't wait to read more from them. The descriptions of the countryside, community, and the main characters brought the story to life. The main characters Lavina, Thomas, and sweet Emily had many layers to them which evolved as the story continued.

I admired Lavina from the beginning, even though she was struggling with self-doubt. Thomas grew on me over time. His niece, Emily was precocious but loveable and often caused me to laugh.

Family issues, insecurity, hope, healing, and a sweet romance completed the story well. I highly recommend it.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and willingly choose to review it.

Under the Blue Skies by Tricia Goyer and Elly Gilbert is the third and final book of the Big Sky Amish series and a must read. It is a true page turner and I didn't want to put it down. I left feeling invested in this story. This book can also be read as a stand alone.

First let me say you will leave this final instalment believing in yourself.

Under the Blue Skies is a heartwarming tale that brings it characters alive, so much you will hear their individual voices throughout and fall in love with each of the personalities and the beauty of the small town of West Kootenai, Montana.

Lovina: Feeling insecure because of a childhood accident and a slight limp from birth, feeling unworthy and hopeless for a future or a family, always failing to see her the strength within her that others see.

Thomas: A gruff personality, strict and harsh upbringing, bad past love experience, unable to trust, love or forgive.

Emily: Suddenly orphaned, scared and required to live a completey new life with an uncle she has never met in a culture that is not her own.

With the love and support of family, friends and a lot of faith will this unlikely pair come together and become the family Emily needs?

I highly recommend Under the Blue Skies.

This book had me wanting to travel back to Montana!

Thomas Smucker hopes for a fresh start in West Kootenai, Montana, but when tragedy lands his niece under his care, he finds out that escaping the past might be harder than he anticipated. Lovina Graber only wants to help Thomas adapt to his new life—yet her secrets (and the inconvenient sparks between them) make the situation even more complicated.

As Thomas and Lovina face the challenges before them, Under the Blue Skies proves to be a heartwarming read. Their story combines great elements of faith, romance, and family—plus scenic descriptions of Montana—and I enjoyed seeing how it all turned out. It would make for a delightful read for any Amish-loving reader!

Handling meddlesome and vindictive people is difficult. Doing so with grace is even more so. There's a definite tension in the beliefs of this group of the West Kootenai Amish community. Perhaps a young girl, full of grief, will be the catalyst to a way forward for the group, Lovina and Thomas.

I received a complimentary copy of the book without obligation. This review is my opinion.

At the very beginning of the book the mystery begins with Thomas, a mysterious man that comes to town with some problems with his past and meets up in the same van ride with Lovina. She has some physical handicaps that she feels will haunt her for the rest of her life. Then all of a sudden, a tragedy with Thomas’s sister and a surprise package arrives! I was drawn into their lives as they both struggled with their past and how Lovina helped Thomas overcome his past not realizing at the same time that she was healing her handicaps at the same time! I enjoyed this book tremendously!

Such a sweet story about putting the past behind you, learning to trust and depending on faith. The characters are easy to love and make you want to keep reading to see what happens. Elly Gilbert teamed up with her mentor, Tricia Goyer, to write this amazing book. I highly recommend this heartfelt, inspirational read and look forward to more books written together by these ladies.

Under the Blue Skies is the third book in the Big Sky Amish series. I had personally read the first book, but not the second and found that this read just fine as a standalone anyway. That said, if you're looking for a good Amish series to dive into, this is definitely one I would recommend.

To be honest, while I have enjoyed Amish fiction very much in the past, I've found that recently it's one that has been very hit and miss for me. I am happy to say that this one is definitely a hit! Right from the very first chapter, I found myself intrigued by these characters and wanted to learn more about their backstories. Of course, I always adore a good grump in a story, so it should come as no surprise that Thomas' character drew me in. Lovina was also such a likeable character that it was hard not to be drawn into her life and rooting for her to find the happily ever after that she desires too. I found this to be a beautiful story of family, love and faith. Fans of Amish fiction, of course, are going to want to add this to their reading list... but I'd even encourage those who aren't usually big Amish readers to give it a chance as well!

Under the Blue Skies is book 3 in the Big Sky Amish series but it can definitely be read as a stand alone. I never felt like I was missing anything by not reading the previous books. This is a sweet romance with grumpy meets sunshine trope.

This story takes place in an Amish community in Montana Big Sky Country. The setting was beautiful, at leas the way the authors described had me wanting to visit! In this story we meet Thomas who is as grumpy as grumpy can be. I will be honest it was hard to connect with this character because he was never happy. Lovina is the complete opposite as she is complete sunshine. Both characters have had tough lives and have their own struggles on how they see themselves. It takes the surprise visit of Thomas niece in order for them to see what God has in store for them.

The story was good and I did enjoy it despite me not connecting with the characters as I typically do in stories. I did enjoy the faith thread throughout the story. Trusting God despite the difficulties that may be placed in your way. If you enjoy Amish stories you will definitely enjoy this one.

I received a copy of this book for review. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

Under the Blue Skies, by Tricia Goyer, is the third book in the Big Sky Amish series. This is a great stand alone story. I enjoyed reading this story with great characters that cared for each other but doubted themselves. After the death of his parents, Thomas sells the farm and moves to Montana for a fresh start. What he finds is a niece without parents that needs him and a young woman ready to help where ever needed.

This is a heartwarming story and easy to read. I enjoyed reading of the struggles Thomas has due to his father’s behavior toward him. I can respect his fears where it comes to being a parent and not wanting to be like his day. I enjoyed Lovina’s character. Her responses to letters sent to The Budget were so good and honest. I felt sorry for the way she was treated by others in her church district. It was enjoyable to see how their friendship developed and how they worked through difficulties and stresses. I enjoyed the strength both characters had to do what they needed to for the good of Thomas’ niece.

I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book, this is my honest review.

I've been a fan of every book in this series so far and Under the Blue Skies is no different. This story is about Thomas and Lovinia, which results in an unromantic relationship of convenience when Lovinia agrees to help Thomas take care of his newly orphaned niece. It was sweet to see their relationship blossom as friends first and then turn to love as the story developed. Thomas' niece Emily was a sweet child that made the story fun to read as well. Overall it was a great read!

I do have to note a disclaimer. As a foster parent, I don't agree with every way that the foster care system is represented in this book. Particularly in how the social worker sought out Thomas as a potential guardian in the presence of his niece. In real life, social workers would have found Thomas, had him agree to care for his niece, and then moved her into his home.

Thank you to the author for the advance copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Under the Blue Skies

by Tricia Goyer, Elly Gilbert

Book 3 in the Big Sky Amish series

Rating: 4/5

These Amish stories are so addicting. I thoroughly enjoyed this great story from Tricia Goyer and Ellie Gilbert. It was expertly woven with so many good characters and lessons learned. I did not want to put the book down. I love when children are involved and are such delightful characters by themselves. I adored the niece and her spunk and matchmaking prayers. My heart broke for the unkindness and rejoiced with the small victories. Humanity is not perfect - even those within the church and this story does not gloss over the flaws. I loved the story line and how authentic the main characters were. I enjoyed how faith was woven throughout the story. I am super excited to read what comes next.

Highly recommend this heartwarming Amish romance that you won't want to put down!

My thanks to the author and publisher for providing me with an ARC of the book. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. No positive review was expected and no compensation received.

This Amish spinster and bachelor uncle romance had me instantly invested in the characters and their situations. After moving to Kootenai, Montana, Thomas Smucker soon finds himself in charge of his orphaned niece. Lovina Graber, who finds purpose in being a helper, is quick to offer assistance to Thomas and five year old Emily. Custody issues, gossip, a precocious child, painful pasts, and their self perceptions make for a touching and engaging grumpy/sunshine, friends to more story.

Under the Blue Skies is the third book in the Big Sky Amish series. With interesting characters, plenty of conflicts, and a slow burn romance, it is an enjoyable read.

Recommended.

Such a sweet Amish romance by Elly Gilbert and Tricia Goyer! When Lovina Graber ends up sharing a taxi ride with a plain stranger, Thomas Smucker, she has no idea how her life will become entwined with his.

I love the premise of this story: a sweet woman helping a man who is given charge over his niece but has no idea how to care for her. She tries to set him up with other women in the community, while hiding her love—and a secret—from him. He’s in over his head caring for his precocious niece and needs help with her care and his parenting skills.

Lovina Graber is certain she’s destined to live out her days helping her parents and her community as a single woman. When Thomas Smucker’s niece, Emily, is unexpectedly brought to live with him, Lovina sets them up in a cabin on her family’s property. Lovina and Emily develop a sweet relationship while she cares for the girl. Lovina begins to care for Thomas, but she has a secret that could ruin everything.

When Emily comes to live with Thomas in a foster care arrangement, he’s overwhelmed with doubt that he can be an adequate father for the little girl who reminds him so much of his deceased sister. Lovina is a natural with his niece, which is good, since he doesn’t feel equipped to be the father this little girl needs.

This is such a sweet story. Lovina and Thomas are such likable characters. Many of the secondary characters nuance and add fun to this story. One of the antagonists felt a little two-dimensional, but she was the only one to be that way, in my opinion.

And the setting! Written in a beautiful way, I could picture the small town, the beauty and peace surrounding it, and the many moods of Montana.

If you enjoy sweet romance set in an Amish community, pick up this book!

As a contemporary Amish romance, Under the Blue Skies by Elly Gilbert and Tricia Goyer rests beyond my normal reading zone. Feeling brave and spontaneous, I signed up to read the story, planning to have an open mind. The novel adhered faithfully to Amish-romance-novel structure with some predictable plot points and the setting of a close-knit community living together in the Plain lifestyle. Though West Kootenai calls itself a progressive Amish community, I still struggled with the normal things that push me away from Amish fiction: forgiveness without healthy boundaries, all male leadership, and humans as high spiritual authority. Readers who love Amish fiction will likely not be as put off by these things as I was.

Obviously, I am not the ideal reader for Amish fiction, including Under the Blue Skies by Elly Gilbert and Tricia Goyer. However, I did like the novel’s strong theme about how the words of others can plant lies within one’s mind. Lovina and Thomas both had to learn to embrace the truth as a means of refuting the embedded lies. At times, both main characters demonstrated immaturity and angst that made them seem more like teenagers than mid-twenties adults and this particular theme supplied some needed character growth.

Under the Blue Skies by Elly Gilbert and Tricia Goyer read fine as a standalone novel though it is the third installment in the Big Sky Amish series. This isn’t a book I would read again, but fans of Amish romance will likely enjoy it more than I did.

1. How did you feel about the setting?

West Kootenai, Montana seems like a pleasant place to live. There are cabins, and horseshoes to play, along with cards, hunting, and fishing. It sounds like a great community. It was a community where neighbors cared for neighbors.

2. What do potential readers need to know most about the main character?

Lovina Graber wondered if she could live a happy life without becoming a wife and mother. She walked with a limp and had a scar on her face. The community overlooked this, but newcomers had questions. She hoped Thomes Smucker wouldn’t notice.

3. Which supporting character caught your interest the most?

Mr. Thomas Smucker caught my interest the most. He had dark sandy blond eyebrows, greenish-blue eyes, was clean-shaven, and dressed Plain. He seemed to be a bit on the reserved side. Both his parents were deceased, and he came to Montana for a fresh start.

4. What journey do(es) the main character(s) take?

Separated from his sister for twelve years Thomas Smucker learns of her passing and that he has become the guardian of her daughter. However, Thomas was boarding at a bachelor cabin which wasn’t suitable for a little girl. So, Lovina opens up her family’s rental cabin to them. Emily, Thomas’s niece, was raised English and now she was having to learn a whole new world. Lovina’s prayer was that God would show her how she could help take some of the burden off of Thomas and Emily.

5. How is the writing style or quality of the writing?

The organization of the story was logical and practical. I found that the idea of the social worker’s involvement with Emily getting placed with her uncle was spot on and met my expectations.

6. Are there spiritual truths to be gleaned from the story?

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (Galatians 6:9 NIV)

7. For whom would you recommend this book?

I highly recommend ‘Under The Blue Skies’ to fans of Amish fiction. And, even though this book works well as a stand-alone readers who have read other books in this series will also appreciate the quality of ‘Under The Blue Skies.’

8. Why did you give it the star rating you did?

I give ‘Under The Blue Skies’ 5*/5* because of the love and compassion Thomas had for Emily and Lovina.

9. Is the title memorable and/or emotion-grabbing?

I believe that it is a memorable title and cover because it makes me think of exactly what the cover seems to portray.

This is book #3 in the Big Sky Amish series, and once again I am not disappointed. This is an uplifting inspirational book with wonderful characters who have a story to tell.

Thomas Smucker moves to town with no intention of having anything to do with anyone. He is content to be alone. He moved to West Kootenai, Montana to escape his past and put it behind him. His father was a harsh man who showed no love to him, nor his sister and mother. He is alone in the world as his sister flew the coop a long time ago. He has not seen her since. He does not believe he is fit to be a father or husband because he feels he has inherited his father's harsh ways. He is in for a shocking surprise when shortly after arriving in town, a social worker shows up with his niece, Emily, who is five years old. Thomas' sister and her husband have passed, and ironically she wants Thomas to raise her daughter. He is beyond flabbergasted.

Lovina Graber is a ray of sunshine to everyone she encounters. She has a zest for a life and loves to write. She, like Thomas, does not feel she is worthy to be a wife or mother, but her own insecurity comes from her embarrassment over a disability and a disfigured face. In her opinion, no man would want to marry her because, she is not a whole woman. This does not keep her from living life to its fullest. She happens to be in the restaurant when Thomas finds out he has become an instant father. Lovina, being Lovina, steps up to offer assistance and a place for them to live. These two are like oil and water. Lovina is a glass half full kind of lady, and Thomas is a glass half empty (or maybe even completely empty) kind of man. However, they both want what is best for Emily. So, Thomas grudgingly accepts her help.

I loved the character of Lovina. She wore her faith on her sleeve and took her duty to care for her neighbors to the next level. I felt so sorry for her that she felt so insecure about her appearance. I wanted to reach into the book and give her a big hug. Thomas just needed someone to truly love him. He was a man of honor, but he was ill equipped to have a 5 year old girl in the house, and it was made especially hard because Emily had not grown up Amish. She had her sparkly tennis shoes and princess gowns and knew nothing of Amish customs and lifestyles. Emily was a fireball with a lot of sass who had suffered so much loss over a short period of time. This kid was going places. She had an iron will to survive. I loved her sass and zeal. She was like a sponge wanting to learn.

This book had an uplifting message of hope. As usual, I could not put this book down, so I highly recommend that you start reading early in the evening so you can finish it.

Even if you do not ordinarily enjoy Amish fiction, I highly recommend this book. It will heal your soul.

Thank you to Sunrise Publishing for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Instant father. Matchmaker. A found family…and unexpected love. But will her secrets--and his past-- destroy everything?
This is and Lovina Graber,Thomas Smucker and his niece five-year-old Emily's story.
I haven’t properly introduced the two of
you yet, have I? Lovina Graber, please meet Mr. Thomas
Smucker, formerly of— I don’t believe I caught where you lived
before, Mr. Smucker.” Wyatt had a crafty way of eliciting
conversation from even the most tight-lipped.
Thomas Smucker didn’t take the bait. The three sat in
uncomfortable silence for a few too many seconds before his
clipped response came. “Back east.”
Wyatt chuckled, persistent as ever. “Most Amish people are
from the east. Whereabouts did you grow up?”
Mr. Smucker appeared to have !gured out Wyatt’s game and
threw the driver a bone. “Belleville, Pennsylvania,” he replied
tersely.
“Ah,” Wyatt replied. “I don’t think I know anyone from there.
Is it a pretty small community?”
Mr. Smucker squirmed in his seat and grunted in the affirmative.
A steady torrent of rain wet Lovina Graber’s eyelashes and
fell like tears as she hobbled to the waiting SUV caked
with mud and grime. While she loved the smell of rain
in Montana, she wished it would have lightened up until she was
safely in the car. With her uneven gait she struggled on the slick
ground. Slowly. Just a few more steps.
One foot slid, and Lovina released the tote bag she’d been
holding as she reached for the side of the car to catch herself.
I recommend this book.

The Big Sky Amish series has been one of my favorites to read this year and Tricia Goyer and Elly Gilbert hit it out of the park with the next installment, Under the Blue Skies.

Thomas Smucker is new to West Kootenai, Montana and is looking for a fresh start with no strings attached. What he didn’t bargain for was meeting Lovina Graber, an amazing woman who has become content with the fact that she’ll never marry or have a family, as well as becoming an instant guardian to his young Englisch niece. Thomas and Lovina embark on an unknown journey that neither could’ve imagined that is full of love, heartbreak, and realizing passions that would’ve otherwise been held dormant.

I felt ALL the feels with this novel. I caught myself smiling and chuckling while also feeling my heart literally breaking and tears stinging my eyes as I read. This was such a beautifully portrayed story and a great reminder that we shouldn’t always believe what is true about ourselves and embrace dreams and making what we deem impossible possible.

One of my favorite parts of Under the Blue Skies was surprisingly one of the most heartbreaking moments. The emotions I felt were some of the deepest I’ve felt from a fiction in a long time. I realized just how vested I have become in this fictional world, and just how much these characters mean to me, which actually took me by surprise.

I love the Graber family so much and was so excited to see Lovina finally get her own story, and her adventure had all the heart that I had imagined it would. Little Emily is adorable with a delicious zest for life, and her bond with Lovina and the Grabers kept an almost constant smile on my face.

I could gush all day about how much I loved this novel. I read it in one sitting as I seriously could not put it down. This world is so vivid and vibrant to me and I loved being back in West Kootenai! I am already impatiently awaiting the next book in the series and cannot recommend this novel or this series enough!

*I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher through JustRead Tours. All views and opinions expressed are completely honest, and my own.

Under the Blue Skies is the third book in a series. It’s a wonderful Amish fiction series with a bit of a twist in each novel. The characters are wonderful. And the plot is amazing. I really enjoyed getting to know everyone and watching them grow and eventually come into themselves throughout the novel.

In this book we’ve got the quintessential opposites attract but with some flair and unknowns thrown in.

Thomas is running from his past. He doesn’t want to end up like his father but he’s worried that he will. So he’s never going to get married or have children. Curveball! He becomes the guardian of his niece! So where does that leave him? Can he become a father figure to her without becoming angry and mean like his father? Can he overcome his fears and uncertainties? And can he maybe find love as well?

LOVINIA HAS A PAST BUT HERS IS ON DISPLAY FOR ALL TO SEE.
A childhood accident left her scared permanently. And we’re not talking about internal but external scars. She wants a family but has almost given up hope that she’ll ever find a man willing to look past her scars etc.

And then she meets Thomas and he’s not what she expects. She falls in love with his niece and develops a relationship with her. Can she have a relationship with her grumpy uncle as well?

Such a sweet love story and book. I hope you take the time to read it. And if you haven’t read the first two books in the series and want to just read this one you can. They’re stand-alone. Although I always recommend reading books in a series as they’re written. Because who doesn’t want to read more books instead of less?!

I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from JustRead Publicity Tours. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.

Lovina Graber has learned to take control of her life, despite the many bumps in its road. She has learned to accept disappointments with grace and that she may never have the future she'd once dreamed of for herself. Even in the face of her hardships, she still manages to serve others and work to make her community a better place.

Thomas Smucker has trouble escaping the memories of his abusive father. He has already accepted that he should not ever marry or have a family, but when his niece arrives, all of his earlier ideas get hurled out the window. I love how Thomas seeks the advice of others and inspiration from God as he seeks to do what is right by his niece and late sister. I can really relate to his struggle of fighting the monster he knows he might become if he falls into the trap of following the easy wrong he has seen others take. I love how he tries to improve himself step-by-step to become the man God knows he can be.

The themes in Under the Blue Skies were communicated so beautifully!!! I loved how the authors used the contrasting examples of Lovina's physical scars and Thomas' emotional scars to communicate the theme that all are worthy in the eyes of God. (Okay, I really want to listen to "Through Heaven's Eyes" from Prince of Egypt now!!!)

I love how this shows the different skill sets and abilities inherent in fathers and mothers. It is beautiful watching Thomas recognize his niece's need for a mother and seeing how he improves as a father.

I received an ARC of this book. My opinions are my own. A positive review was not required

Under the Blue Skies is the third book in the Big Sky Amish series! Once again we find ourselves back in West Kootenai, Montana where a small Amish community lives amongst the English. Thomas Smucker has just come to town to start anew. A life where no one holds his past against him & he can live a nice quiet life where no one expects anything of him. Then the unexpected happens and he finds out he his sister & her husband have died leaving him guardian of their daughter. Luckily, Lovina Graber is there and she has a God nudge. That's where God is leading her to do something. Lovina is a kind hearted lady with a servant's heart. She has a limp and a scar on her face and though she had a desire of a family of her own, she is given that up and considers herself a "helper." Thomas is grateful for the help that Lovina has given him and his niece, but because of his past he is determined to never marry or have children. Can Lovina and Thomas put aside their secrets and burdens and realize that they have feelings for each other and the little girl that has drawn them together? Can they allow God to work all things for good & realize that he might have a plan for them that they never even imagined?
I was so happy to be back again in West Kootenai. I love this little community where the English and Amish live & work together. I also love the people who live there. I really loved Lovina and Thomas and his niece Emily. Emily made me laugh and she sure was a handful at times. She had a way of worming her way into your heart. It was a beautiful story about the power of love and allowing God to work all things for good! That's my take from it anyway. It also had a clever epilogue at the end. I was given a copy, but all opinions are my very own.

Under the Blue Skies by Tricia Goyer and Elly Gilbert is the third and final book of the Big Sky Amish series and a must read. It is a true page turner and I didn't want to put it down. I left feeling invested in this story. This book can also be read as a stand-alone.

Emily: Suddenly orphaned, scared and required to live a completely new life with an uncle she has never met in a culture that is not her own.

With the love and support of family, friends and a lot of faith will this unlikely pair come together and become the family Emily needs?

I highly recommend Under the Blue Skies.

What a lovely and refreshing read!
This is a story of redemption, surprises, and of not placing
your expectations of God in a box.
Lovina Graber has always felt that due to the scar on her face, and her limp, she was not worthy of a man’s love. She says to herself that God wants her to stay single and take care of her parents and their farm. She tries to content herself with this path, but struggles when she sees others getting married.
Thomas Smucker arrives in Lovina’s small Amish community with many regrets and the desire to disappear into the background.
When a family tragedy occurs, he is left with his niece.
Thomas has to learn to lean on others for help.

This was a sweet story full of bits of joy and sorrow. It reminded me that even when we think we know what Gof has in store for us. This story reminds us that it is always a good idea to keep our hearts and minds open to His voice.
It also serves as a good reminder to ignore what negative people think about us. Each of us was put here by God for His purposes. Our job is to figure out what those purposes are, and do them.

Under the Blue Skies by Elly Gilbert and Tricia Gilbert is a wonderful story.

I have really enjoyed reading the Big Sky Amish series, it has a wonderful small-town feel with interesting circumstances in each book. Plus, the characters are well laid out and believable.

Amish fiction is not a genre I typically read, however, I loved the cover and decided to give it a try. In Under the Blue Skies, Elly Gilbert and Tricia Goyer take some interesting principles and apply them to their characters in an intriguing way. Both Thomas and Lovina had to see past what other people told them to discover the truth. I thought it was a strong presentation and I did enjoy the presentation of the concept since I think it is a reminder that we do need to be very careful about who we let influence our life choices.

They both also had to deal with some unpleasant people, something many of us do in our day-to-day lives. Which I thought was a great connecting point.

Overall, this was a sweet story, it is the third book in this series, but I don’t think anyone would have a problem picking it up as a standalone book.

My thanks to Justread Tours for letting me read it.

I enjoyed the first two books in the Big Sky Amish series, so I was thrilled to learn that there was a third book and that the author is from Kentucky. Let me tell you, I wasn't disappointed! Under the Blue Skies has everything that I enjoy: realistic characters, a beautiful setting, and a story that kept me turning the pages. Thomas Smucker wants a new lease on life, his orphaned niece Emily grieves for her mother, and Lovina Graber yearns for a family that she'll never have. These people with different crosses to bear find each other in West Kootenai but can they overcome their doubts and misconceptions?

It was a joy to watch this mismatched trio attempt to create a family unit. Author Elly Gilbert tugged at my emotions and made me believe that God always had this in His plan. If you enjoy Amish fiction that's laced with faith and hope, do yourself a favor and grab a copy of Under the Blue Skies. It's a wonderful debut novel for Gilbert and another success for her mentor, Tricia Goyer!

I voluntarily accepted a digital copy from the publisher but there was no obligation for a positive review.

Under the Blue Skies is a unique story of an Amish man, Thomas Smucker, who moves from Pennsylvania to Montana to start a new life. Despite the Amish tradition of marrying and raising large families, Thomas plans to never marry because he believes he would be a poor father like his own father was. Shortly after Thomas moves to West Kootenai, a social worker arrives with an Englisch niece that Thomas knows nothing about. I loved how a single woman, Lovina, offers her parents' cabin for Thomas and Emily to live in and helps with Emily while Thomas works. Lovina has been made fun of all of her life because she was born with one short leg and has scars on her face from a fire. It was great to see how much love Lovina had to offer Emily whose mother has died. It upset me how cruel some young women were to both Lovina and Emily. You will enjoy reading of the changes in both Thomas and Lovina's lives and attitudes. I received an complimentary advance e-book. This is my honest opinion.
