She thought he had trouble remembering she wasn't a kid anymore. No, what he had trouble remembering was that he was no good for her. Because damn if he didn't want her. He wanted her every possible way he could have her.

Wow! What a hot little read this was. I definitely didn't see that coming. After reading and enjoying Hot Pursuit, I was expecting more along the lines of that book. And it was...mostly. If you're looking for a nail biting romantic suspense, that's not quite what you'll get her. This was light on the suspense and action but verra high on the steam. You certainly won't be getting many complaints from me. This was the perfect short and steamy little read to spend my Saturday night with.
Georgeanne was Texas money, debutante balls, exclusive sororities and country club all the way. She knew which fork to use, what to wear to any event- and she used bone china for her morning coffee.
He was nothing but a poor kid from a dysfunctional family.

12 years ago Georgeanne was hopelessly in love with Sam McKnight, her older brother's best friend. Sam was used to see her as his friend's annoying little sister, until one night changed everything. But Sam also knows that he's not good enough for Georgie. He's the boy from the wrong side of the tracks, and she's the beautiful and innocent southern belle.

Now Georgeanna is and English professor coming off of a recent divorce after her husband cheated on her. The last person she expects to see on her doorstop is Sam, who's been sent by her brother to check on her. When they see each other again, all those pent up sexual feelings begin to resurface again.

Georgie never hid the fact that she wants Sam, and she's not exactly shy about showing that it hasn't changed with the years that have passed. But Sam fights the attraction between them, knowing he's not good enough for her. But when Georgie's life is threatened, he's determined to protect her. And when these two are thrown together in a remote house on Maryland's Eastern Shore, sparks begin to fly. Sam may be determined to stay away from her, but there's only so long he can fight it for. And when Sam does give in, holy hell but does he give in.
I do want you, Georgie. I've wanted you since that night twelve years ago. I want to spread you out beneath me and make you come so many times you can't do it anymore. I want to taste your pussy and feel your legs wrapped around me as I pound into you. I want to see you swallow my cock and hear you cry out in ecstasy.

He was deep inside Georgeanne Hayes, the perfect little princess of his teenage years, and he wanted to corrupt her utterly. He wanted to possess her and make her scream his name. He wanted to imprint himself on her so thoroughly she'd never forget this night with him.

The suspense part of the book was mainly lost in the background of the story of two childhood friends reuniting and giving into the chemistry between them. I was hoping for a little more action, at least in the end, but that never happened. I found the ending a little too perfect and glossed over. The other thing keeping this from being 5 stars was Sam's constant self esteem issue. He was always dwelling on how he wasn't good enough for Sam, no matter how hard she tried to show him she didn't care about that. It did get slightly frustrating at times.

I still really enjoyed this book, and would recommend it for those looking for a quick and steamy little read with some suspense thrown into the mix. This can easily be read as a standalone, as neither of these characters appeared in the first book (that I remember) and there was plenty of background given that nothing is lost. I've become a big fan of this series, and if you like steamy Romantic Suspense, I'd recommend reading this series in order. The men of HOT are definitely worth meeting, and I can't wait to dive into Dangerously Hot

I loved this!!

What you've got here is unrequited love (older brother's best friend) and forbidden love (best friend's little sister) all wrapped up in a protective, badass Alpha hero and a strong and likable heroine.

Add in a generous helping of romance and steam, a touch of suspense to infuse some intrigue, stir together with an endearing backstory and effortless writing....and boom, you've got yourself quite the tasty dish!

Highly recommend for a quick and satisfying read.

This was a nice, quick little read. The writing was really good. I will definitely be looking for the other books in this series.

Georgeanne and Sam have known each other since they were kids. Sam and her brother Rick have been best friends forever and Georgie was the annoying little sister who followed them around and had a huge crush on Sam. Sam joined the Army and Georgie went on to become a college professor. She has been married and divorced and Sam is sent by her brother to check on her.

Unknowingly, she has become the target for a terrorist and Sam and his HOT (Hostile Operations Team) team are needed to protect her until they find out what goes on. She and Sam are put in a safe house and I bet you can't guess what happens!! They get down and dirty, oh yeah!!

Overall, I enjoyed this novella but it was a little anti-climatic for my taste.

🎶. Boring.
No real errors.
No real action.
No real suspense.
A lot of yacking.
Intimate scene was the best part and that was also filled with a lot of yacking.

2nd book in this series I have read and my Last.

When I read suspense I want SUSPENSE.
Not a lot of yacking about the danger they are in. I want the Action.
I have like 5 of Ms. Harris's books. I have read 2.
All the rest go into my
'Not For Me' shelf.

By the way, the adult action is okay. Not super hot & heavy, but okay

This is a short story but an enjoyable one. There isn't really any suspense it was basically put in there as a reason for the H & h to spend time together in such close quarters. It was well written and easy to read and had more than a few 'hot' moments ;)....Can't wait for the next one.

Hot Mess, indeed! I love Sam's and G's love story. A second chance at love, a secret hideout, a dangerous situation, a hunky bodyguard and 1 determined lady all make for a perfectly hot reunion. I love how their attraction and chemistry withstood the passage of time and the vast experiences they each had gone through. Another must read by Lynn Raye Harris. A winner!

Novellas are difficult to review. Do you lower your expectations because it is a shorter story? I think this had lots of potential...it had good bones. However, there is just not enough development to be a really strong recommendation.

Liked the original, but loved the expanded version. Georgie and Sam are still great. Lots more drama and a little more back story to the team that I thought was missing from the first version.

This is the second book in the Hostile Operations Team series. So far there are seven books published, and an eighth is due out this sometime this year. Each book tells the story of a different member of the HOT team. I read book one, Hot Pursuit, right before this one. That book was so fantastic that I started this one as soon as I finished that one. As a matter of fact, I'm so hooked on the series, that I started book three, Hot Package, as soon as I finished this one--I'm in the middle of that book right now. That makes three HOT books in two days! The books are interconnected, but each can be read a standalone. The HOT team consists of eight members. In book one, team leader, Captain Girard, got his lady love. In that book, we are introduced to HOT in the prologue, while they were out on an op, during which two members were killed. By the end of that book those two positions remained to be filled. The hero in this book, Sam "Knight Rider" McKnight is one of the replacements. In this book, Sam has been newly recruited to the HOT team, and the events in his story take place several weeks after the events in book one.

Sam and Georgie are childhood friends; her big brother is Sam's best friend. Georgie is from a wealthy, privileged background and Sam is from the wrong side of the tracks. Georgie has pretty much been "in crush" with Sam ever since she was thirteen years old, but as far as Sam is concerned, she is strictly off limits. When Rick, Georgie's brother, asks Sam to check on his sister, Sam and Georgie meet again for the first time in six years. The last time they saw each other was at Georgie's wedding. Georgie lives in Maryland, where she teaches college courses to Army personnel. One of her top students has missed several classes, and the Army won't give her any information. When Sam goes to see Georgie, she asks him if he could find out what happened to her student. Subsequently, Georgie's life is threatened, and Sam discovers that Georgie's student has been murdered and that he was involved in illegal activities. These illegal activities are linked to the threat against Georgie, and the HOT team is mobilized to neutralize that threat. In order to safeguard Georgie, Sam takes Georgie to a safehouse.

While the two are sequestered together, sparks begin to fly between them, and old feelings are brought forth. Sam is determined to keep Georgie at arm's length, but he's fighting a losing battle, and Georgie certainly isn't making it easy for him. LOL I LOVED Georgie. She may be from the elite, country club set, but that woman is REAL! Sam sees her as some kind of princess; he thinks she deserves the best; diamonds, silk sheets, and fancy clothes, all things that he cannot give her. In reality Georgie is no such thing. She's as down to earth as they come, and she has her own issues. Georgie went through a divorce almost a year ago, after her husband cheated on her for several months, before finally leaving her for the other woman. Her self-esteem took quite a beating, and since then Georgie hasn't felt really attractive. She wants Sam, has always wanted him, and she doesn't hold back in letting him know that. I admit that when I read the reviews that said that Georgie went after Sam, I was concerned, as I don't like heroines who are willing to throw away their pride all in the name of love. I usually don't respect them. However, that is absolutely not the case with Georgie. Georgie is strong. She tells Sam she wants him, and she thinks he's an idiot for thinking he's not good enough for her. But she doesn't beg, and she absolutely doesn't demean herself in order to get him. What I love is the way she talks--what a mouth! She's certainly doesn't talk like a princess. LOL

Some reviewers complained that Sam's hot and cold attitude towards Georgie was annoying, but I found it completely realistic. Sam was fighting a battle on two levels; on the one hand, his job is not conducive to a committed relationship. He can be deployed at a moments notice, heading to parts unknown, for an indeterminate period of time, with no guarantee that he will return. He didn't think it was fair to ask Georgie to have to live with that constant uncertainty. Furthermore, his assignment to HOT was brand new, having a new relationship so quickly after being assigned to such a high level, stressful job, I think, would make anyone think twice. Then there was the more personal reason; Sam didn't think he was good enough for Georgie. He had demons stemming not only from the fact that he didn't come from Georgie's world, but also from the mental abuse he suffered at the hands of his parents. Under those circumstances, it was no wonder Sam blew hot and cold. His heart was at constant war with his mind, and when you add in the intense sexual attraction that existed between the two, let's just say he doesn't stand a chance.

In some ways, this story is similar to that of the first book; the hero and heroine have been friends since childhood, with the heroine having a crush on the H since she was a teenager; Georgie asked Sam to be her first lover just like Evie in book one had asked Matt, although in this case that situation turned out completely different. Then there is the fact that Sam, like Matt, doesn't think he can have a committed relationship with his job, and tries to push Georgie away. However, for the most part, this is a very different story. Book one was action-packed with high speed chases, a kidnapping, shootings, a house bombing, and more. This story doesn't have any of the excitement that book one did. Once Georgie and Sam are secluded in the safehouse, the story focuses on the couple and their relationship. The threat to Georgie gets neutralized without any fanfare whatsoever; on that level the story was a bit of a letdown. Nevertheless, for me, overall it was a very satisfying read. Besides when it comes to the sex scenes, the ones in this book are way hotter than those in book one! They are scorching hot, and graphic! No clean romance here, ladies. LOL FYI, there is also quite a bit of crude language in the story. Now I'm off to finish book three. Hoo-ah!

These were two short, sweet novellas.  Both are second chance romances, with the main couples having separated under angry conditions, so both sides of both couples have unresolved conflicts to deal with.

And that's really all there is to these two novellas.

Hot Mess

I'm not as content as everyone else seems to be about this short story.  Granted, it was a bite-sized novella, with a good amount of story and action, even for something that wasn't quite novel-length.  I've been conflicted about my rating, because the truth is, I DO like our female MC, Georgie.  I love that she knows what she wants and she goes for what she wants, and screw the rest of the world.

But I also have a problem with romances where the heroine continually flings herself at the hero, and he all but tells her he can't, and won't commit to anything, and just keeps pushing her away.  But because Sam has a pretty legit reason for pushing Georgie away, I can't be entirely too upset with him, or with the relationship.  But that doesn't mean I didn't get frustrated, especially when he continually, in his own head, decided for Georgie what she should be doing: going home to Texas, marrying someone in the blue collar community, being in her junior league, raising kids...

Did he not think that maybe he should let Georgie decide what she wants with her life?  It got really, really annoying that he kept going on about this, no matter that Georgie would remind him that she has a life in D.C., and she quite likes her life, and is quite happy not having to be in Texas, under her parent's thumb every minute of the day.

Anyway, this was short, but not quite sweet, as even the romance and the sex didn't feel like it salvaged anything--some of it just made me more frustrated.  Of course, this story is so bite-sized, it's perfect for those times when you don't know what else to read before a big Halloween Bingo game coming up in less than a week.

Hot Package

Much like the previous book in this series, Hot Package was short and entertaining during the read.  Unlike Hot Mess, I found this short romance a bit sweeter, and the couple only slightly more relatable.

Whatever it is, I'm thinking that both Hot Mess and Hot Package probably could have benefited from having a more fleshed out set of characters, as well as a more in depth story line.

Though the truth is, as I'd already said, both are nice enough reads for those times when you're between books, or between reading games, or at the end of a COYER readathon week and want to squeeze a couple more books in to feel like you've accomplished more than make a really big list of books that need to be read.

The main couple of Hot Package honestly didn't stand out much, and if I were to be honest, this book, while sweet, was less memorable than Hot Mess, if only because it didn't rile up any emotions in me at all.  At least with Hot Mess, I got indignant and upset on the heroine's behalf--not that that's something to be proud of, really.  But it gave me something to write about.

And now, I've stretched my thoughts as far as they will go without starting to ramble about nothing.

There is no person on earth that ever thinks they are good enough for everyone, you're good enough for someone but not always just anyone. It is either due to your past or lack thereof or even your future and a possible unpredictable life you lead.

For H.O.T member Sam "Knight Rider" McKnight this is the situation he finds himself trapped in for years, he has always wanted his best friend's sister Georgie in his arms, but he knows she deserves diamonds, silk and champagne things he can never give her, so he stays away and avoids her at all costs for years.

But when her life is in danger and he finds himself as her protector he has no choice but to get up close and try to stay non personal.

But Georgie has other plans, she has always wanted him and this time she will get him, only after blazing hot nights of sex and endless orgasms the man takes off yet again, without saying goodbye and no way to make contact and all she is left with are the words of warning he gave that he might never return.

The character of Georgie was really awesome. A strong , determined go out there and live my life and always go after what I want kind of heroine. I liked that the author ruffles her up a bit by letting her hit the point on knowing her life is in danger and just maybe she should back off every now and then. It showed that it is not always the best decision to go after every single little bit of information we want, sometimes it is best to leave well enough alone.

I totally loved how the author let Georgie prove Sam wrong by showing him she might look like the silk and diamonds good girl but when she is bad she can be real bad, just want he needs, not every woman has that level of guts to take on a guy that has been rejecting her for years.

The character of Sam was simply amazing hot perfection! Yes ladies the super sexy muscles and delicious tattoos helps a lot, but what made him more perfect is that he is a realistic hero, the author did not sugar coat his image with layers of this and that kind of heroic action trick, she kept him as real as the men of the army world come. Always alert, always prepared, always informed and never cracking under pressure unless it is the non panty wearing kind beckoning him to bed, your typical real life hero.

The backdrop was mostly set in a isolated area, this to me mirrored the feelings of Sam and his trouble with trying to stay isolated against Georgie, the author incorporated storms and peaceful bliss scenes that mirrored the life of Georgie everything always seeming to be perfect but in actual fact she is fighting a life of turmoil.

The dialogue was super spicy and very, very sexy. Words of hot sex and mindless orgasms were mixed with emotions so powerful and so touching it truly felt as if I could feel every word being spoken and touch every action being played out.

The ending of this read did feel a little unfinished but in my opinion this was the author's way of letting me as reader know that just as Sam's life is unpredictable and he can take off at any given moment so is the life of this couple, they are happy in each other's arms but it is just for now and for now that is all they need, life with a kick ass hero is an adventure that go any route , all you need to do is hang on for the ride.

Am taking away a message of when we believe enough in someone we need to show them that they are worth it for they do not see what we see. Standing on the outside has it's advantages we simply need to know when to bring them into action.

I highly recommend this read for every lover of romance with spice! The author created the perfect escape read for any reader looking for a little action and adventure with loads of super spicy romance.

English professor Georgie works for the military, teaching military men about books when her favorite pupil goes missing, something that worries her to no end. It doesn’t ease her worries that she keeps thinking something really bad happened to him. Nor does it make her feel better that someone tried to push her in front of an incoming subway train.

Childhood friend, and the guy she’s been in love with since she was a kid, Sam, pops by to check in on her. Georgie confides in Sam about her missing pupil, and Sam promises to look into it.

When he finds out that this pupil is involved with the wrong kind of people, and when Georgie tells him that a guy walked up to her in a coffee shop and threatened her life, Sam and his team whisk her off to a secret location to keep her safe. Here Sam and Georgie spend several days together, alone. Since they both have had the hots for each other for years, things heat up pretty quickly.

I loved this story. Even though Georgette is both strong and resourceful, she is not afraid to ask for help. Sam on the other hand I wanted to kick in the ass. He’s completely in love with Georgie, but denies his feelings because of some misplaced loyalty to her family. I get the loyalty, I just don’t get why he didn’t grab Georgie and made her his years ago. Some men are dense.

The characters are well developed, the plot is both suspenseful, well paced, and the heat between the characters is scorching. Even if Georgette has a backbone she doesn’t mind playing a damsel in distress – something that gets extra points from me.

Well, this book was a good surprise for me. I had it for a little while on my Kindle so I finally decided to pick it up and, boy I'm glad I did. I was scared that i wouldn't like the characters or the story but I admit that it was pretty good even if the idea wasn't that original. Also, it's a little tricky to find a good novella where you don't feel like it was rushed. Here, i felt like the ending was wrapped around nicely so the short length of the book didn't bother me. I really enjoyed the dynamic between the main characters in this.

Overall, a quick and interesting read with a hot romance in it.

this was my introduction to this series and I have to say, I liked it. The main couple, Georgeanne and Sam, have known each other forever and are finally getting their chance to be together. I felt Georgie, and Sam, brought up her divorce and how crappy her ex treated her a bit too much; but I've never been divorced, so maybe that's how it goes. The suspense part of the story was next to nothing... a threat where they whisk her off to hide, a plan to draw the bad guy out, and then NOTHING. The bad guy is caught off screen. I would have liked to see a little action :)

I'll be looking for the first book in the series :)

This book wasn't bad, not at all, but it was filled with cliches and I found myself rolling my eyes more than once.

Rich girl had a childhood crush on older brother's best friend (poor and from bad family but he's a good guy). They have an almost thing when she turns 18 then 12 years later get pulled together again. He thinks she deserves better, she says it's her life her choice...blablabla

That said the plot was good. Georgie gets pulled into a mess when terrorists think she's the girlfriend of a Pentagon worker who sold them secret intel. Incomplete intel which they can't get from the guy since they killed him. Sam is the newest member of an elite military taskforce and he takes her into protective detail.

The steamy scenes were ok, the supporting cast was interesting, so yeah 3 stars here.

The friends to lovers trope is my very favorite. Doesn’t matter if it’s a historical, contemporary or romantic suspense, if the blurb even hints that there is history between the H/h, or he is her brother’s best friend, or there might be some unrequited love on either main character’s part I’m all in. It’s like my crack, I just have no willpower to resist. The blurb for this novella in the H.O.T. series had that AND the hero’s nickname is Knight Rider AND the title is Hot Mess. Just a glimpse at it on Goodreads I could feel the pull and hear it calling my name. So I gave in.

Georgeanne Hayes has had her sights set on Sam McKnight since she was thirteen years old. To Sam she will never be anything more than his best friend’s kid sister, she knows this because the one time she tried to offer her virginity to him shortly after her 18th birthday he refused to give in to his desire and pushed her away. He’s only made one other appearance in her life since then and that was on the day of her wedding. Now she’s divorced and an English Professor living in DC. She likes her life and job, but can’t make her family understand that despite her divorce she’s okay. When her brother calls Sam in to check on her she’s not surprised when he’s distant, after all they haven’t seen each other in years. But when her life is threatened the next day he’s the first person she thinks to call.

Sam McKnight refuses to give in to his desire for the gorgeous Georgeanne Hayes. As a child her house was the only place he could go to escape his parents fighting. He’s a poor boy from the wrong side of the tracks and has always known that he is not who her parents would want for their little girl. He has nothing to offer her, even his job as a new member of the Hostile Operations Team (H.O.T.) requires him to leave at a moments notice and often stay away from home. When Georgie calls him in a panic and he then discovers that a student of hers is connected to some very bad people he is determined to keep her safe.

First let me say I thoroughly enjoyed this romance. It’s supposed to be romantic suspense, but I felt that the focus was more on the romance than the suspense. Don’t get me wrong, there is a suspense plot, but it doesn’t really go anywhere and the resolution is quick and easy. The romance aspect on the other hand was very skillfully allowed to unfold and the passion to ignite beautifully. Both Sam and Georgie are well fleshed out and it was easy to get into their heads to understand where they were coming from. I liked these characters. Their dialogue was both sexy and funny and kept me entertained even while I was waiting for them to resolve their feelings and finally jump into bed.

“I don’t want to hurt you,” he said.

“I doubt you’re that big.”

He couldn’t believe that she could make him laugh at a time like this. “I’m thinking of your hip, smartass.”

“I’ll let you know, but right now I think it hurts worse not to have you where I want you.”

Here’s another fun moment:

“I’m not wearing any panties,” she whispered. “Doesn’t that make it all better?”

“Georgie,” he groaned. “You’re killing me here.”

She reached for his belt buckle. “Ooooh, you feel that? The wind is blowing. Blowing my dress right off. Blowing you right where I want you.”

Georgeanne isn’t the typical girl who is begging for her brother’s best friend to see her as something more, she’s strong and sassy, while at the same time completely down to earth. I could have read another two hundred pages of her smart comebacks and sexy come-ons. I admired Sam’s thoughtful handling of his G. There is a lot of push and pull until passion ignites and their feelings fall into place soon after. The ending felt like more of a HFN rather than HEA, but I was okay with that and hope that I will get to see more of this couple further on in this series.

This was my first Lynn Raye Harris, but it won’t be my last. I’ve already hit my one click button and purchased the first book in the series. I’m hoping with the longer length that the suspense plot will be more intense. I’ll report back and let y’all know. Final Grade- B

Favorite Quote:

She thought he had trouble remembering she wasn’t a kid anymore. No, what he had trouble remembering was that he was no good for her. Because damn if he didn’t want her. He wanted her every possible way he could have her.

“I love you, Sam. I don’t care if that makes you uncomfortable. I love you and I won’t keep it a secret any longer. From anyone.” - Georgeanne Hayes

I feel like I'm finally getting somewhere with this series - see, I'm pretty easy to please. Not that the second book was absolutely perfect, but we're getting there.

Sam McKnight is one of the new members of HOT. And one of the toughest guys around. However, one look at Georgeanne Hayes, his best friend's little sister, after so many years of walking out on her, and he knows he can't keep up with the tough act. Georgie is in trouble, with terrorists after her, and he will need to keep his wits together if he wants to protect her - whether that means from her pursuers or him, it remains to be seen.

I seriously considered the second book an improvement of the series. It didn't have as much action as the first one, and it mainly focused on the romance, but at least the relationship seemed a little more believable and the heat and the tension made up for it. Sam and Georgie were scorching hot together, and they really blew my mind.

Georgie was the kind of woman who always knew what she wanted. Even when she was young, she wanted Sam. It was refreshing to see her keep going after him, because she knew he wanted her, too, and was holding back for stupid reasons having to do with her family and his supposed inadequacy. She wasn't overly pushy, and she didn't act like a brat. Instead she was all pure strong female. And I like that in a heroine. She knew it would be hard to be with Sam, considering his occupation, but she was willing to give it a shot.

Now, Sam, he was a nice guy. Always up for the task of proving himself worthy, especially to Georgie's family, and ready to protect her at any cost. The only problem with this hunk was, his denial. It was downright INFURIATING at times. Like a whiny teenager! Dude, the girl says she wants you. You want her. She's willing to try and be with you despite the weird circumstances. And you want that, too. So then why keep pushing her away?! Damn male PMS and all the good it destroys in romances!!!

The fact he tried to "show" her what it would be like between them if they tried making it work, was even more awful. It made it all look dirty, and I suppose this was his plan all along, but it also made him look even more of an asshole. Meh, I'm done with this guy, hope the next one is better than that. If he didn't have such wonderful chemistry with Georgie - all thanks to her and none thanks to him - I would have screamed while reading that part.

In any case, the next book is Billy's, and since he's a guy who really intrigues me, I can't wait to see what happens in his story!

“I can’t forget you, Georgie. I can’t quit you either. I’ve thought of you for twelve years, and once I had you—really had you—I knew I was in trouble. Because I don’t care how pissed off Rick gets at me, or how disappointed your parents are because I’m not what they envisioned for their princess. I want you. I need you. You’re everything to me...”- Sam McKnight

A nice turn in telling the mighty popular 'second chance' story.

Lynn Raye Harris did a great job in drawing me into the story immediately. I liked Georgie right away and the story progressed and the author revealed more about her story with Sam I liked her even more. She was strong and independent and although she might still harbor emotions for the elusive Sam, she was determined to move on with him or without him.

Sam was great too. As stubborn as he was sexy, that man had me on the brink of shaking some sense into him. Could he be any more difficult? Thank goodness he was capable and complete torn about how he left things and his feelings for Georgie or I might have just kicked some alpha-male butt.

I enjoyed the suspense part of the story as much as I loved the romance. There were times when I thought they were moving a tad too fast, but really their connection was established way before then and their chemistry was very, very good. VERY GOOD! ;-)

Although this is a novella in the Hostile Operations Team series, it can be read as a stand alone. I enjoyed it as much as the first installment, so I recommend you pick that one also if this one piqued your interest.

All in all, a great addition to the series that kept me engaged throughout.

WOW!! Loved this one!! I read a couple books this week that disappointed me, but this one was great! I am so adding LRH to my auto buy list!!

Short quick read!!

I am out of really good descriptive words, but I could tell you that I was totally in the mood for this book! Newbie to this team of special ops group, Sam checks in on his best friends little sister who is all grown & teaching college classes to military personnel… Not sure I'm using the right words?? Anyway, she's recently divorced & has always loved Sam… He turned her down years ago & she's still pissed about it!

Hours later, she's been pushed down, threatened & her house is broken into. She calls Sam & he comes running! Yee hooo!! It's just really good! I can't say much more!! Just go for it!! It's a good introduction to this series & Worth every minute… I didn't feel lost at all coming in later in the series… LOVED IT!!

One problem was the lack of character description. Bits & pieces added later, but no complete description...

In the second novella installment of the HOT series, Lynn makes us fall in love with yet another hot, hot, hot military badass! Georgie has been in love with Sam for as long as she can remember, but she is his best friends baby sister. When Sam gets transferred to DC, he checks in on Georgie for her brother and the sparks fly...when Sam discovers that Georgie's missing student has dragged her into a huge mess involving a terrorist organization, he does the only thing he can do, he protects her with his life. When Sam whisks her off to a remote location for her protection, those sparks turn into a raging inferno. Georgie is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to getting what she wants and she wants Sam. Will Sam be able to resist her allure and maintain his position as her protector? Will Georgie be able to convince Sam that love is worth the risk? This novella in the HOT series will have you desperate for the next installment of HOT men!!! Way to go Lynn, you hit it out of the park once again!

Really really enjoyed this book. This one was a lot shorter than the first, at only 170 pages, but it was just as action packed as the first one. Unlike Matt’s story, it doesn’t take Sam as long to get with Georgie, however he is just as stubborn with his feelings.

Sam and Georgie have known each other since they were children and Georgie has always been in love with Sam, but the problem was Sam only saw her as his little sister since his best friend was her older brother.

But when Georgie gets threatened, Sam steps in to protect her and starts questioning his feelings. He’s hesitant because he doesn’t want to betray his best friend and her family, but he just can’t fight his feelings for her.

We do see past characters and get a little update on how Matt and Evie are doing and I imagine they’ll be in future books as well (hopefully with some progression to their relationship).

This book does contain guns, violence, death and terrorists.

Sam has known Georgie since she was a teenager as he is her brother’s best friend. I felt bad that Sam has never felt good enough to be more than a friend to Georgia as her family is rich. The crazy thing is that her family has always loved Sam. I admired Sam for joining the military to help others and feel good about himself. He is now a part of HOT and in Washington DC. Georgie’s brother called Sam and asked him to check on Georgie as his family wants to make sure she is alright. It may be ten years since they have seen each other, but I could tell there is something simmering between the two. Unknowingly Georgia gets involved with a terrorist and Sam’s team is put in charge of protecting her. I was glad that Sam was put in charge of being with Georgie 24/7. I enjoyed the story and encourage you to read the book.

Synopsis:

English professor Dr. Georgeanne Hayes has a problem. Her star pupil, an Army sergeant who works in a Top Secret government program, is missing—and someone tried to push her in front of a train last night.

Sam “Knight Rider” McKnight is used to looking out for Georgie. When they were kids, she was just his best friend’s baby sister. But Georgie’s not a baby anymore and Sam is getting some very male—and very dirty—thoughts about the girl he knows he can never have.

When someone threatens Georgie’s life again, Sam will do anything necessary to keep her safe. Even if it means spending the next few days locked up in a remote house on Maryland’s Eastern Shore with her.

Sam might be used to denying himself what he wants, but he’s about to find out that being cooped up with Georgie will push him to the limit. And maybe beyond.

My Thoughts:

I was struggling with the rating for this one, but after digesting everything within a few days and reflecting back on my reading experience, my final verdict is 3.5 stars for Hot Mess.

This was my first Lynn Raye Harris story and I didn't know what to expect since she is a new-to-me author. But, the book cover lured me in along with the blurb on Netgalley and I said, "To hell with it. I'm requesting this novella even though I have a million books on my TBR pile."

Georgie has been in love with her older brother's best friend, Sam McKnight ever since she was a little girl. Georgie comes from money and Sam doesn't. He's the poor kid from the wrong side of the tracks with messed up parents. He knows that he's not good enough for Georgie and has kept his distance for years and now he's working for HOT. When Georgie's safety is threatened, Sam makes it his mission to protect her even if it means spending a few days locked up in a remote house on Maryland’s Eastern Shore with her. Days being cooped up together breaks down Sam's resistance and he eventually gives in to the ever tempting Georgie.

I actually found myself liking Georgie. I liked that she cursed like a sailor and wasn't Miss Prim and Proper. I also liked that she went after what she wanted and didn't back down despite Sam's brush offs. So, that brings me to Sam. I got annoyed with him when he kept playing hot and cold with Georgie throughout the story. I wanted to yell at him to pull his head out of his ass and make up his damn mind about his feelings for Georgie.

While I did enjoy this story for the most part, I found it to be quite bland. That's the only way I could describe it. However, Hot Mess was not bad. From the book summary I just had this preconceived idea that Hot Mess was going to have some danger, action, suspense and a little bit of drama thrown in. When none of these happened I was left disappointed when the last page was turned. I thought that the conflict was resolved too easily and quickly. I felt that there should have been more to it. The story was building up at a good pace, but there was no climax. I was expecting more, but got nothing as a result. Therefore, I'll have to say that was what I was most disappointed with.

While I didn't love this story, The Hostile Operations Team series sounds like a promising series so I'll keep my eyes out for it.
