Bart Shepherd: Hero of Kingdonia

In the land of Kingdonia, every sixteen-year-old receives their fate and divine gift from the Oracle.

Bart Shepherd is a scrawny peasant boy with no special qualities, but he is fated to become the prophesied Protagonist and is given a divine gift called Plot Armor. Cool, right?

Well, despite the perks, the cool fate and divine gift come with some major drawbacks - ones that Bart fears more than anything else. Less cool.

Unwilling to accept his future demise, Bart sets out to change his fate. He completes some side quests, acquires quirky travel companions, and unwillingly gets roped into various shenanigans along the way.

Come enjoy this silly, somewhat satirical adventure as Bart discovers that maybe his real fate was the friends he made along the way. Or maybe he dies. Who knows?

I knew I was in for a fun ride when the book started by detailing the story of an amorous ram and his unusual conquest. It’s been awhile since I’ve read a story told from omniscient POV. I think it really suited this narrative. I enjoyed all the little quips you wouldn’t otherwise get if the story was only told from the MC’s POV.
Bart Shepard, our unlikely hero, quickly learns he’s the mythical “Protagonist” foretold by the “Almighty Author” and bestowed with the gift of “Plot Armor.”
The story serves as a vessel to poke fun at many of the classic fantasy tropes we all know and love. It almost reminded me of a literary version of “Robin Hood Men In Tights”. Honestly, I really had fun reading it, the same way I loved that cult classic film. I have a feeling this silly story might one day be remembered with just as much nostalgia.
I would definitely recommend this for anyone who loves fantasy filled with humor and tons of satire.

What a bizarre book. Ha.

Bart Shepherd Hero of Kingdonia is a satirical adventure about a boy who is fated to be a hero, but with a short life. In his quest to change his fate, he meets up with a cast of interesting characters and experiences many adventures.

I have to say, the author did say this was satire, and it truly is! I felt as if I was reading it from the perspective of a teenage boy (which the main character is) and it’s just so hilariously bad, but in a good way.

Definitely a different type of fantasy adventure book. If you’re looking for something different, funny, and totally atypical, this is it.

I received an advance reader copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

What a silly fantasy story! 😂
You know that feeling when you're watching a movie or reading a book and the story is silly and wacky, but that's why you like it? Then Bart Shepherd is your book - it's goofy with lots of sarcasm and humor. Loved it!
