I swear Elle's books just keep getting better and better! I have loved everything she has written from her Debut through to Ride Dirty Cowboy but this book is in the top spot with Only The Negatives.
After that cliffhanger ending of Book 1 that acted as a taster of what was to come for this book, I have been impatiently waiting to find out what happened. The book begins right back there in the mix of things and boy does it start off with all the feels and gets your heart racing. Ride Dirty Cowboy follows Addie and Kai as they navigate their emotions after the crash, battling with the guilt over Sunny, their mutual attraction to one another and the reality that life goes on.
Ride Dirty Cowboy has a whole lot of heart, a powerful story that tackles guilt, loss, love and racism. Addie is an Aboriginal woman who is given the chance to tour the US as a journalist with the rodeo circuit, she realises this means spending time with Kai (who she believes hates her) but takes the opportunity anyway. What she doesn't expect is to encounter the hatred all because of the colour of her skin. I adored Addie in this book, she is strong, driven, sensual, passionate and just wants to belong. Kai, God I loved this man! They call him 'Frost' because he is cool and a man of few words. Once he begins to melt around Addie *swoon* he is loyal, he wants to be the best he can be, he loves hard and he talks dirty!
Elle's writing was exceptional, I thought the story held it's pace throughout and I found Addie and Kai as well as other secondary characters, especially Rem very easy to understand and become connected to. There is a touch of humour in the friendships; but the angst in this novel is what I really loved! Yes the racism played a big part in this book and serves as the stronger message; but the survivors guilt because of how Addie is idolised as the grieving girlfriend is what really took the emotionality up a notch for me
I highly recommend reading this book, you won't be disappointed! What a story and what an epilogue.......I need to know what is going on, like yesterday!
