Mortimer Keene is full to bursting with madcap plans, and if it's trouble you're after, look no further! With laugh out loud illustrations and short chapters perfect for new readers, this first book sees Mortimer Keene and his slime machine on the attack!
When slime upon slime attacks the school, a special task force of teachers set out to find Mortimer Keene and his slime machine at the source of the crime!
Written by Tim Healey and illustrated by Chris Mould, this is a wickedly funny new series. Other titles to come include Ghosts on the Loose and Alien Abduction.
If you like Horrid Henry, you'll love Mortimer Keene!
This was fun. We discovered this book through attending a library event with the illustrator Chris Mould and he read some of this (and as a result we have an original drawing of Mortimer Keene, schoolboy scientist) You are plunged straight into the slimy rhymy action which engulfs Mortimer's school and the use of language is great. I quite liked the introduction to the characters, or rather the teaching staff at the beginning and the extra bits at the end - the A-Z of slime, the slimy anagrams, the plans of Mortimer's slime machine were well done rather than feeling like a dreary "let's make this educational" exercise. More adults should get to read this kind of stuff.
I had a hard time categorizing this book! Definitely a children's book, but not for very young children; definitely illustrated, but not a picture book; definitely fiction, but not fantasy per se; and definitely written in rhyme, but not *really* poetry... Either way, this book is AWESOME! Cute, quirky black & white drawings with a bright splash of green slime -- er, color, illustrate the rhyming story of how Mortimer Keene's slime filled the school. All through the book I kept thinking how great the book would be for teachers and at the end there were several fun activities, including a recipe for slime!
The school gets over run by slime which has been coming from a Slime Machine created by mad child scientist Mortimer Keene. Very amusing story. As it is read you find the writing is written like a poem which rhymes. I have the other two in the series ready to read - very interested in seeing what other whacky things Mortimer Keene gets up to.
Lots of interesting fonts, with black, white and bright green illustrations, and even a recipe for slime in the back of the book, this humorous tale told in the style of Seuss definitely needs to be read out loud but expect lots of students to want to read it themselves afterwards!
Cute story for early readers. Slime has taken over the school thanks to the invention of Mortimer Keene. The school is closed as the mess has to be cleaned up. Cute rhyming text with fun illustrations. Good for ages 6 and up.
