Darkness has come to Earth, invited, but without Clarie and Patrick’s knowledge. It isn’t until Clarie comes face-to-face with the Darkness that she realizes the danger their beloved Earth world is in. Their fate lies in the shadow realm of Mortgatha, the home of Darkness.
Shadowed hands is the final book of the Mortgatha trilogy, and the best. As the book begins, darkness is stronger than ever, entering even Earth. The way to Mortgatha is barred, dividing the main characters. The 'good guys' are on the back foot, struggling to understand what is happening, and what to do about it. As in the previous books of the series, the characters are sympathetic and believable. This is especially true of Clarie, who is changing as she struggles with darkness in her life. The aliens are sufficiently alien to be alien. I found this a most enjoyable book, and I was reaching for my kindle tablet at every opportune moment to find out what would happen next.
What a great end to this series. More adventure and romance. My favorite part was Ms. Hawk's description of what Bitsy was experiencing in the Shadowed Hands' tunnel. When she first awoke and was alone in the dark--it was like I was there with her. We get to revisit characters from the first book: Bulldog & Rand--with them comes surprising twists. And this story has a completely satisfying ending. Great series! Would recommend for middle grade readers as well as YA readers.
