The Kisses #2

Rainwater Kisses

Rate this book
The older sister of Emma LaRue wasn't looking for love. In fact, the last thing Kaylee LaRue thought as she attended her sister's Caribbean wedding was that she would meet a man as confident as Owen Parker. The suave businessman oozed charm, and when that charm was directed at Kaylee, it gave her pause. She couldn't be sure if the man was actually interested in her or just interested in a good time.

In reality, Owen Parker had never met anyone like Kaylee LaRue. The quiet girl from Iowa made him forget to breathe the first time he saw her. When he tried to work his magic, her wit proved to be a match for his, and his charms had no effect. He knew what it looked like- she probably thought that he wanted to have a vacation tryst with her just as Jack Saunders had with Emma. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

Kaylee tried hard not to yield to his advances, but their last night in the Caribbean was simply magical. After a passionate night spent in the arms of Owen, Kaylee ruefully observed that there was no fake wedding to keep the two of them together. As she flew home, she thought it'd be back to the same old life for her. She never expected Owen to show up at her door.

However, this small town girl wasn't sure she was ready to change for this city boy. When Kaylee tried to fit into Owen's world, everything came crashing down. In the blink of an eye, what seemed like a strong foundation suddenly found itself built on a pillar of sand. Would their relationship blossom like Jack and Emma's, or would the two of them forever be haunted by the memories of rainwater kisses?

It was hard for me to get in to this book. This book was written in first person, and I’m just not a fan of stories written like that. . I am glad I kept reading, because the story got a lot better the more I read.
The story starts out when Kaylee met Owen. Kaylee traveled to the Caribbean on vacation for her sister’s wedding. Owen was the groom’s best friend. I thought it was cute that Owen kept asking to spend time with Kaylee, and Kaylee kept turning him down. He didn’t give up. Kaylee finally gave in when he invited her to go parasailing. After Kaylee went parasailing, she decided to enjoy the rest of her vacation. She thought it was just a vacation fling. When she left to go home, she didn’t think she would ever see Owen again. I was glad the story didn’t end there. I have to say I enjoyed the way he called Kaylee, and the way he gave her flowers.

Sample from chapter 16
We stood there, kissing in the rain as if it was the most natural thing in the world. Raindrops pounded against the pavement, splattering against windows and shaking the baby leaves on the trees. I was enjoying the taste of rainwater kisses too much to stop.

Sample from chapter 18
Owen frowned slightly as I adjusted his tie. I made sure it laid straight and then smoothed the fabric across his shoulders. I loved these simple moments. They may never make a scrapbook, but that will stay in my mind forever as perfect.

Not sure why any woman with any self-respect would be attracted to someone like Owen. Even though I was looking for something completely mindless to read, this made me too irritated to be able to turn off my brain. Couldn't keep reading.

I enjoyed reading it. Not much drama with some swoon-worthy moments and sizzling scenes. A fairytale romance - something that could ease your life's worries temporarily. An escape from reality. It's a feel-good read, kinda predictable but all in all entertaining. I loved that I've had glimpses of Emma & Jack's story here, their wedding and few scenes with their life afterwards.

This is actually the story of Kaylee (Emma's older sister) and Owen (Jack's bestfriend). They met at the wedding, felt instant attraction and despite Kaylee's resistance to Owen's charms, she finally yielded in. Their story made me smile a lot of times. This book started great for me but in the middle of the book, I couldn't pinpoint exactly how or why, but it suddenly lost its charms to me. And the break-up reason wasn't really a valid and huge one. It didn't sound pretty convincing to me. I hate it when the lead characters think that the only way of protecting their loved-one is by staying away from them. Sometimes it infuriates me that I wanna shake them...hahaha!

I loved Kaylee's character. She's a strong heroine, not afraid to speak whats on her mind but afraid of flying on an airplane, loves ice cream and plumeria flowers and a loving sister to Emma. I loved Owen as well. He might be a womanizer but that was before he laid his eyes on Kaylee. They complement each other and the fact that Owen did a lot of things to prove his sincerity to Kaylee earned him some brownie points...hahaha! His passion and love for Kaylee ebbs through the pages and flows directly to my heart. He's awesome and I adore him. But Jack is still my first love....lol!

If you need something funny, sweet and spicy read then this is the book for you. No need to invest a lot of emotions in here but definitely leave a smile on your face. The epilogue is awesome - another story with a HEA which I loved of course.

Kaylee LaRue much like her baby sister Emma has never traveled outside of Iowa. Now Kaylee is at the same resort where her sister and Billionaire Jack Saunders met, only to attend her sisters wedding to Jack. Enter Owen Parker, Jack's Best man. When Kaylee and Owen meet sparks fly but Kaylee want's something real and not the perks of the best man hooking up with the maid of honor. Owen tries to turn up his playboy charm to snare Kaylee, what Kaylee does not realize is that Owen is looking for something more also. Will their budding relationship be limited to the Caribbean or will Owen do any and everything to try to keep his dream girl.

I really love this series. Krista has done it again with Rainwater Kisses. I love how Krista pointed out Kaylee's weakness and how she written it, that it would not let it define who Kaylee is. She has created wonderful characters that you fall in love with from the first page. I loved how Owen was willing to sacrifice time and sleep to be with Kaylee and make it work between them. There was one scene in the book that I think could have either been left out or more could have been written on it. That was the scene where Kaylee confronted her ex. But other than that, and that heart stopping scene in Dubai. I really enjoyed this book. I hope there is more to this series.

The story itself is similar to the first book, with a change in scenery and personalities. The problem I have with this book is with the resolution of the major conflict.

Review to come once I read the book.

5-stars is maybe a bit preemptive, but seeing as I loved the first, I've got high hopes for the second.

Mostly enjoyable with an unsatisfying ending

I quite enjoyed the first book and liked the blurb for this one, but it didn't quite live up to my expectations. I thought Owen and Kaylee got together a little too quickly but that happens in some books and sometimes in real life so I'm ok with it. The rest of the book was good until I got to the end. I won't say what happens, but I don't feel like things were handled strongly enough. I understand a huge business deal was at stake, but who would still want to do business with them after they tried to brush it away like it wasn't important? Supposedly none of them really care about making more money that much and are supposed to care more about family so why would the deal continue? This is a fantasy, and they are supposed to say screw you! And let the other party come crawling back if they so choose.

Rainwater Kisses

Sequel to Saltwater Kisses, but this can be read as a standalone.
First of all, the technical bits. Poor grammar can totally put me off a book. This one was written and edited very well, which seems to put it in a minority in the books I have read recently. Thank you Krista Lakes.
The story itself is fairly predictable, hard working health worker meets gorgeous (and seriously rich) oil exec at her sister's wedding. It all gets good between them pretty quick but then crashes just as quickly.
But for all it's predictability it's still a pleasant read and wouldn't put me off the rest of the series.

Finding your true love!

This story begins with Jack and Emma's wedding continuing from Saltwater Kisses. Owen Parker is Jack's best man and Kaylee, Emma's sister, is the maid of honor.

This is the story of how Owen and Kaylee meet and have the cliche of after wedding hookup. Where do they go from here?

"Rainwater Kisses" was another enjoyable novel by Krista Lakes. I felt Kaylee and Owen's story was rushed in many parts of the book. Overall, it was a good book for me to unwind with while at the beach.

This book was included in the purchase of the first book that I purchased from this author. And wow is all I can say. This time we get the male prospective of the story and how it all unfolded. Krista Lakes is able to draw us in with her characters and fall in love with then over and over again. Love this book and this author. I will be adding this author to my forever list from this point on.

This was a cute story but there were multiple, lengthy, graphic sex scenes. ( I had to skip 6-7 pages at a time!)

Second book in this series I was glad to see Kaylee and Owen get their own story. I would recommend this series and this author.

Rainwater Kisses is the second book in the series and features Kaylee the sister of Emma LaRue from the first book. Kaylee doesn’t like to fly, doesn’t like to travel, enjoys her quiet life and dreams of one day having her own little bed and breakfast. Her little sister Emma has planned a wedding on the beach where her and Jack met forcing her to confront her fear of flying. Kaylee can only get a few days off from work so she plans to make the most of her trip, enjoying the beaches. What she didn’t plan on was meeting Owen who is charming and determined to get her attention. While Kaylee tries to avoid Owen’s intentions her attempts are quickly thwarted. Her few days in paradise are just that.

When she returns to her home she’s just assumes things will go back to the way they used to be. She doesn’t expect to see Owen. They both have their own lives and they don’t really mesh well together, since he’s a big city guy who’s working in Dubai for several weeks. While Owen makes every effort to see her when he can there time together is short with each of them falling in love. When Owen has to make a three week trip around the world he asks Kaylee to go with him but what should be an easy request is anything but. Kaylee must conquer her fear of flying for the man she loves. However the trip goes horribly wrong, causing Kaylee to end it all. Will Owen really accept it’s over? Will Kaylee be able to move on after losing Owen?

I really like Kaylee as a character just like I enjoyed her sister’s story. Owen is one of those good guys who’s worked hard and made something of himself. He doesn’t let the fact that he has money influence who he is. I like that he was willing to fly a little extra to spend time with Kaylee even if it was for only a few hours. While the romance was whirlwind it was sweet also, they are perfect for each other.

I really enjoyed the first book in the series so I knew I had to continue on with the next book. Rainwater Kisses is a fast paced contemporary romance novel with great story of two people from worlds apart falling in love. The characters are easy to connect with you can’t help falling in love with them. Kaylee is just a sweetheart I wanted her to have her happy ever after right from getting to know her. I feel the author has done a fantastic job creating a captivating yet complex story that isn’t overloaded or all about the sex. I like my romance to have substance and Rainwater Kisses has exactly that. I wasn’t able to put the down having to finish it in one sitting so I would know how it would end. Another well written installment in the Kisses series. I have the rest on my kindle and hope to get to the soon.

3 stars.

This review also appears on Pretty Sassy Cool.

This was a really fast read! I hadn't read the story that came before - Saltwater Kisses: A Billionaire Love Story - but I knew something had to have because the first few pages seemed to be a recap of that book. Which was unfortunate, since the first-person narrator didn't seem to identify herself right away. This left me a little unsettled for a bit.

Overall, we begin with Caribbean Billionaire Fantasy Moments and it's all very cute when Hot and Hunky Billionaire is flirting with Our Heroine, Kaylee. He does it too strong, though, and she isn't immediately acquiescent.

That changes. Owen, Our Hero, finally gets it right and then we go from UST to ...

Well, I'll leave the details in the Man Cave, shall I?

There are some tensions as Regular Iowa Girl and Globally Active Billionaire try to have a Meaningful Relationship. I do not personally know any billionaires so I don't know how accurate these things were portrayed overall, but it was cute that he went so far out of his way for her.

Things come to a head in a scary moment abroad and it's a game changer. For both Our Hero and Our Heroine.

And then, of course, more swoon. :)

Fast read. Cute read. Fluffy read (except for the scary moment abroad). It read rather like a fairy tale for the sexually aware. Recommended for those who like a hot gloss. :)

Rainwater Kisses: A Billionaire Love Story is book two in the Kisses series by Krista Lakes. It is well written and very good.
Kaylee LaRue, a physician’s assistant, has braved flying to go to her sister’s wedding in the Caribbean. She managed the flight by drinking and was a bit drunk when she arrived. However, it was the only way she was able to make the flight and be at the wedding. Her little sister Emma was marrying billionaire oil and gas businessman, Jack Saunders. The only problem, besides having to get on another airplane to go home, was that she would be paired with Owen Parker. Owen was gorgeous and he knew it. He came from old money and invested it wisely. He and Jack had been college roommates and because he never thought of money, Jack trusted their friendship was not based on his own wealth. Owen was charming and Kaylee knew he had used that charm on lots of women and that it probably meant nothing. Besides, she had just come out of another romance and had sworn off men for now. The last thing she needed was a vacation fling.
Owen, had other ideas. He had fallen for Emma after she had met Jack so she was off limits. However, she had talked at length about her big sister, Kaylee to the point that Owen felt he knew her and definitely wanted to meet her. The wedding threw them together as maid of honor and best man. Owen got his chance to meet Kaylee and to try to get to know her. Both know that there are sparks flying when they touch; but while Owen wants to see where it goes, Kaylee is more reluctant.
Owen only has a few days to get to know Kaylee and try to get past her defenses. Can he? Will Kaylee be able to keep her heart uninvolved? Can a romance work between them since Owen’s work means lots of travel while Kaylee is afraid to fly and has no inclination to travel?

Kaylee, Emma's sister , met Owen at Emma and Jack's wedding rehearsal.
The wedding ceremony happening in Caribbean island, where the couple had met and fallen in love, it became the perfect Kayleen's vacation. She was determined to enjoy the 3 remaining days and do all her normal life does not allowed. That means she stopped rationalizing and jumped right in quick relationship with Owen.

It turns out that the two got along so well that Owen could not get away. And even having a hard work in Jack's company, practically living in Dubai, he traveled regularly to visit Kayleen.
The relationship survived well for a few months until Owen convinces Kay to travel with him to Dubai, and there's something that ashame Kay and puts her in danger, leading the couple to break up.

Getting back to her normal life without travel, without expensive purchases, and especially without the warmth of Owen's presence, Kay thinks never be able to forget him, that she took the worst of decisions to break up with him; but to her surprise, Owen had other plans in mind. And so, she would live also her fairy tale.

Another story that mixes sugary romance with hot scenes.
Owen is a beautiful man inside and out, and a gentleman in every way.
I confess that in some scenes I thought Kayleen boring when she showed too afraid to at least try new things, such as traveling to other countries. Fear of flying is fine, but I thought she was much more afraid of change than actually traveling.

But in the end the couple could have their HEA.

Rainwater Kisses by Krista Lakes is a gripping sequel to Saltwater Kisses starring Owen Parker and Emma's older sister, Kaylee LaRue. This book was even more alluring than Saltwater Kisses . The intimate scenes were steamy but not obscene. There was chemistry between Owen and Kaylee along with more moments with the pair together. The characters had their flaws, making them seem real. Real enough that I thought I was reading a personal diary at one point. This book drew a much more emotional response out of me. There were some mistakes made. Like some words missing a letter here and there.

Owen when that man walks into a room his a** demands your attention, not grab it but demands it, "Kaylee, no more excuses. I want you to go parasailing with me, and then I want to hear all about being a physician's assistant." He's also a man that does his research, "Emma told me it was your favorite. I was going to get us reservations at a French restaurant, but she made sure I knew that you could be a grouch at the end of your shifts and I would be risking my life taking you anywhere nice in scrubs. So, I have comfort food and a bottle of wine in the car." Owen he kind of gets upset of dumb things when he was just sleeping, "I flew over twelve hours to get here, but you gave serious thought of going to work." I mean I understand where he's coming from but he was sleeping. He's protective though have to give him props for that, "are you alright, Kaylee? I'll come home right now, sandstorm be damned." He's also in love with his girl, "because it wasn't making me happy anymore. You make me happy. I couldn't bear the thought of taking another trip without you." That is so sweet. I love Krista's books and when I found out this was the second book after "Saltwater Kisses" you bet your a** I had to read it.

Saltwater Kisses was blowing up the charts and I knew I needed to write a sequel as soon as possible.
I had the title, but I had no idea what I should write about. Should I continue with Saltwater Kisses A Billionaire Love Story The Kisses Series 1 Emma and Jack? Where would they go? I had already written them a wedding scene.
I had these ideas of Emma getting kidnapped and Dean and Jack coming to rescue her, but as I wrote the plot points down I realized that the story had changed into an action film instead of a romance. Plus, I hated breaking them up.

That's when Kirsten Osbourne gave me the best writing advice I've ever received.

Don't take away your character's happy ending.

She was right. Emma and Jack had their happy ending and I didn't want to take from that. I wanted them to be happy. And then I remembered that Emma had a sister. And Jack had to have a Vice President...

And thus, Rainwater Kisses (and the Kisses Series) was born.

Kaylee and Owen's story.

What happens when you are the type of girl that gives your heart freely? You end up getting hurt a lot. Kaylee has sworn off men, especially men who are smooth talkers and usually get the woman they want. Owen has never had a problem getting women. he flirts with them all. Then he meets Kaylee at Jack and Emma's wedding. He tries everything he can to get her attention but Kaylee is trying to stay true to not falling for the next guy. As Owen tries to get her attention and Kaylee tries to ignore her attraction to Owen they come together.

As Kaylee tries to be part of Owen's world she begins to think she may not be able to do it. She gets to see him when he can break away from his job and she is afraid that booty calls is all she will ever have and she is not sure if it will work. When Owen suggest that she come with him on one of his trips, she agrees after much hesitation. The trip does not go as planned and Kaylee needs to leave and in the process decides to leave Owen as well.

When two people are meant to be together sometimes what they think they want might not be what they really need. Owen surprises Kaylee and the two get their HEA.

This series are easy, fun reads. I always like series that keep me up to date with characters from previous books.

This review is from: Rainwater Kisses: A Billionaire Love Story (The Kisses Series Book 2) (Kindle Edition)
What a beautiful story, Liam and Kaylee will melt your heart, and you will fall in love with them. Liam a man with a heart of gold, is the kind of man every women dreams of. He was attracted to Kaylee since her sisters wedding, and never stopped thinking about her after she left. I loved how he showed up with flowers, and Chinese food spur of the moment, not only is he hot as hell, but he is super sweet. Broke my heart when someone tried to cause trouble for them, but love will always find a way to work out. Love the Kisses Series all the books are Amazing!

Krista Lakes is a pretty good writer. I like the characters she creates but feel that she writes as if she's trying to stay within a certain amount of words. Her books could use about 5,000 more words to give each novel I've read so far in the series a more developed ending. The conflict that pulls the couple apart comes about 85-95% of the way through the novel, leaving very little time to resolve the conflict and then give the reader an idea of what happens to them after ward. The epilogue in each book so far has been exactly the same, so much so that I just skim it. It's always the wedding. She's getting ready to walk do the aisle, she's walking down the aisle and their eyes meet, their friends and family watching. They cut the cake ... end of book.
