An absolutely unforgettable and heart-shattering romance, perfect for fans of Colleen Hoover, Lucy Score and Carley Fortune, that does keeping secrets destroy true love?
Anna works two jobs to get herself through college and never, ever talks about her family. It’s easier to keep her distance from everyone until she can finally leave her old life behind. That is, until chance throws her together with Gabe …
Gabe is top of the class, in a fancy fraternity, and has a big, perfect, warm-hearted family. He is everything Anna is not. Their connection is undeniable. His silver-blue eyes pierce right through her, and he makes her laugh in ways she never thought possible. But Anna would do anything to stop Gabe from discovering her darkest secret, and the real reason she goes home every night to a cold, silent apartment…
When Gabe and his family get close to the truth, Anna runs, vowing to never see them again. But forever is a long time…
Years later. Tragedy brings Anna back to the town she grew up in—a place she escaped a decade ago. When Gabe wraps his strong arms around her, it’s like finally finding home.
But when the truth comes out after all these years, will both their worlds come crashing down? Gabe is the one person Anna trusts but what if he has secrets, too? And how much pain can two hearts endure, before they are torn apart forever?
It All Comes Back to You will make you laugh, cry with both joy and pain, and hold your loved ones tight.
Melissa Wiesner’s mother didn’t allow her to watch much TV as a child and instead, made her play with paint, colorful pipe cleaners, random bits of fabric, and all manner of other crafty things. This set Melissa up for a lifetime of creative pursuits, and it was only a matter of time before things took a bookish turn.
A night-owl, Melissa began writing novels when her early-to-bed family retired for the evening. She is the award-winning author of both emotional women’s fiction and romantic comedies. Melissa’s book, His Secret Daughter was an Amazon bestseller, The Second Chance Year was a Book of the Month add-on pick, and It All Comes Back to You will soon be translated into almost a dozen languages.
Along with her charming husband and two adorable children, Melissa splits her time between the big city of Pittsburgh, PA and rural West Virginia.
This book has a lot of reviews regarding how emotional it is and I didn't feel it. Maybe I am a robot but that aspect fell short for me. The idea of the story had some potential but the execution fell flat. The pacing was extremely slow going and dragged in many parts. The timeline was too long in my opinion and was drawn out, it took too long to get to any momentum. There were too many tropes used and the plot line was oh so predictable. Anna's constant back and forth irritated me to no end. Her lack of communication meant she lacked character development. Gabe came across as almost too perfect and had no depth whatsoever, he was very one-dimensional. Both of their behaviours were very frustrating.
The book was more feelings than storytelling making the story feel like a soap opera rather than emotional. The story felt like the same old, same old. Over all the book failed to deliver a compelling or original story. While it attempts to tug at the heartstrings, the slow pacing, frustrating characters, and predictable plot ultimately detracted from the overall experience. If you are looking for a unique romance novel, look elsewhere.

EXCERPT: Summer, Present Day Dr. Anna Campbell had spent the last decade and a half trying not to go home. But just beyond those airport exit doors loomed Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - the city she'd spent her childhood trying to escape. For courage, Anna gripped the gold pendant that had hung around her neck for the past two decades, rubbing her thumb on the delicate lines etched on the surface. She wasn't a scared, desperate kid anymore, and this trip was her chance to finally find the answers she had spent half her life chasing. To finally put the past behind her for good. Anna squared her shoulders and followed the other weary travelers off the escalator, hesitating as they veered toward baggage claim or out the sliding doors, where friends and family would pick them up. She didn't have any bags. All of her belongings fit in the pack on her back, and nobody was coming at this late hour to get her. So, instead, she scanned the overhead signs for one that would point her to the Uber stand. She was about to head out the doors when a low voice, from somewhere behind her, called out, 'Can somebody call a doctor?'

MY THOUGHTS: I want to move in with the Weatherall family! They are the family I always wished I had. The family that thinks family is the most important thing on earth; the family that loves one another, no matter what; the family that makes time for one another, no matter what. Yep, that family. It's not the sort of family that Anna is from or is used to. It both enchants and terrifies her in equal measures.
Now, before we go any further, the book blurb gives no idea of the scope of this novel. It is not a light and fluffy romance. It is a story with depth and heart. It is a story of families, and the carelessness of maternal love, the pull of drug addiction, and the unconditional and ever hopeful love of the child.
I loved Anna and Gabe's friendship. It was always there, whether Anna was accepting of it or not. Frequently it was not. She is unused to having someone to rely on, to fall back on, to having a friend; someone who wants nothing from her in return. Yet, despite Anna's upbringing, she is a woman with a big heart.
It All Comes Back to You had my emotions all over the place. At one point, I remarked that I felt my heart had been trampled by a herd of buffalo. I cried: tears of rage; tears of joy; tears of sadness. I laughed, sometimes as I cried.
There are a lot of lessons to be learned from this tale. They are never delivered in a preaching manner, but gently and succinctly.
It's impossible not to love Anna. She is resourceful and independent. Determined. But she is also vulnerable. She is stubborn and doesn't trust others. She has no idea of her own worth.
It All Comes Back to You is beautifully written. It is a compelling read that I had difficulty putting down. This was my first book by Melissa Wiesner. It won't be my last.

This book had heart and soul. It was instantly gripping and pulled me into the world of Anna and Gabe. I adored both characters and was rooting for them the entire way. There are so many things to ponder (and feel) while reading this book.
Anna has not had it easy. Not by a long shot. She works two jobs and is taking a college class when she meets Gabe. She keeps everyone at arm’s length and will not discuss her family. She is very private, kind, has admirable goals, and is determined. Gabe is outgoing, from a loving and well-off family. He is intelligent, a member of a fraternity and kind. Anna and Gabe form a fast friendship and enjoy spending time together. Gabe's family also enjoy having Anna around and everyone becomes concerned when they learn about Anna's circumstances but instead of talking it out, Anna runs...
As both characters age, and go on with their lives, their friendship endures. They have their ups and downs but always come back to being friends. Will their friendship survive their secrets?
As I mentioned there is a lot of food for thought and lessons in this book. This book touches on learning to trust, overcoming obstacles, finding your family, and accepting help to name a few. I also enjoyed the characters in this book. Gabe's family was wonderful and who wouldn't want to spend time with them? Plus, the characters in this book deal with realistic issues. Not everyone is a great communicator, that takes time and trust.
This is a friends to lovers book that brilliantly showed an evolution of relationships. I appreciated how their friendship started and how each grew during their friendship. This book is not a steamy bodice ripper but a rewarding journey that took the characters time to make.
I found this book to be well written, heartbreaking, heartwarming and hard to put down. I had both the book and audiobook. I enjoyed the audiobook narration and thought it was well done. This was my first book by Melissa Wiesner and I look forward to reading more of her books in the future.
4.5 stars
Thank you to Bookouture, Bookouture audio, and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
I thought I had finally found a spectacular read but it turned out I hadn’t…
This was mainly Anna’s journey. It spanned over many years watching basically her life and struggles.
Anna was a character whom run away from a lot of either situations or hardships, and after a while it got tiring.
There was no epic romance between Gabe and Anna. Especially regarding Anna - she was dancing around and all that dithering of hers lessened my interest. Any feelings between the mcs were frailly delivered.
The ending was very abrupt and there was no epilogue. While the whole story took place over so many years, I expected at least a glimpse of their future in the end.
We all have differing opinions about ‘the best book ever’ - for me, it’s this one. It’ll definitely be the book of the year for me; I’ve been thinking of the characters since finishing it two weeks ago! I was numb upon finishing. I had tears streaming down my face. I. Couldn’t. Do. Anything. Nothing. For ages. I stared into space…entranced. Affected.
Such a powerful book.
Not only does it have beautiful, captivating and figurative language, but it also has UNFORGETTABLE characters and arcs.
What I loved: ✔️a slow-burn romance ✔️friends to lovers trope ✔️gripping plot ✔️captivating, authentic characters ✔️characters coming to terms with their feelings ✔️forced proximity (Weatherall home) ✔️believable relationship progression ✔️low heat romance ✔️message about the fear of losing control ✔️message about learning to share/hand over our burdens ✔️message about letting people ‘in’ and trusting ✔️message about finding a way to make your dream a reality
The author poured her heart into this book for SEVEN years. It shows.
Pre-order/buy it NOW.
You won’t be disappointed.
If you’ve been following me, you know I don’t read many romance books. THIS, though. THIS was AMAZING.
Congratulations on a phenomenal book with a great title and great cover!
I was gifted this copy by Bookouture and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
At the young age of 16, Anna was determined to create a better future for herself. Despite the challenges of juggling two jobs and college studies, she never gave up. Even when she faced financial struggles and lacked any support from her family. It wasn't until she met Gabe that she finally knew what it was like to have unconditional love and support.
I love how the author didn't rush the romance. Anna and Gabe's relationship was well-developed and never felt forced. Although Anna's tendency to push Gabe away was annoying, I understand its purpose in the story's drama. Overall, a captivating romance that I didn't want to put down.
Would recommend it to any fans of romance.
*** Thank you to NetGalley, Melissa Wiesner, and Bookouture Audio for graciously sending me the audiobook to review. As always, all thoughts are my own.***
This was one of my favorite reads this year. I adored this book. This was the first actual "page-turner" that I've read in awhile - I physically could not stop reading it. It has a happy ending, but damn, it is an emotional rollercoaster to get there. This book reminded me a bit of "Friends We Meet on Vacation" by Emily Henry combined with pretty much any Colleen Hoover book (in the best way).
This book does not have thousands of reviews (yet), but if there was one book that I've read this year that I'd encourage others to read, it's this one. Note - it does have a lot of triggers, as the FMC does not have a pretty life.
As someone who is not really a fan of Colleen Hoover, I was pretty skeptical of this book, and I was not sure if I would like it. I picked it up just to read a few pages to see if I could get into it, and after reading JUST THE PROLOGUE, I was completely sucked in. I started the book and did not put it down again until the book was finished.
Plot *some spoilers below* The prologue is set in present day with Gabe picking up Anna from the airport after not seeing her for a few years. In chapter 1, the story begins with how the main characters, Anna and Gabe, met each other 15 years before. Anna was a 16-year-old genius high school student who was allowed to take some college level classes. Gabe was a college senior (also extremely smart). Both characters were disappointed when they got paired to work together all year on an economics project for their class. Gabe thought he got stuck with a kid and assumed he would have to do all the work. Anna assumed she got stuck with a frat-boy who wouldn't help her/would be too busy partying, and she needed to get a good grade on this project in order to get a full scholarship.
After meeting for the project for the first time, Gabe realizes there is more to Anna than he first realized, and he comes to think of her like a little sister. Anna realizes that Gabe is actually one of the smartest kids in the class, and Gabe becomes Anna's first and only friend ever. They talk about his career goals, her college goals, and they get into extensive conversations about economics. Meanwhile, Anna is completely broke and living in squalor, but she is desperately trying to hide her home-life secrets from Gabe.
While working on their project together, Anna begins to spend every Sunday at Gabe's family's house (with his loving parents and 3 loving siblings). Without spoiling too much, Anna has a really tragic home life which she does not tell anyone about (until Gabe finds out on his own after driving her home). Once Gabe realizes the reality of Anna's home life, he is so worried about her, and despite promising Anna that he won't tell anyone, he tells his parents. Anna didn't want Gabe to tell anyone because she is almost 18 and she doesn't want to be put in foster care when she's this close to getting a full ride to the local college/being able to use her college credits to a real college degree. Fortunately, when Gabe tells his parents what's happening to Anna, rather than report her to the police/CPS, they take her in as her guardians. Unfortunately, Anna is so mad at Gabe for breaking her trust that she refuses to get close to him again. She has some other reasons for wanting to stay where she was and not move in with Gabe's family, but I won't spoil.
Years go by in the book, and Gabe goes to grad school while Anna goes to college. They go a few years without seeing each other between each "Part" of the book, but we do get snippets of interactions between the 2 and with the family, as well as new relationships over the years. Eventually, Anna is in medical school and Gabe is an economics professor, and Gabe sees Anna in a romantic way for the first time ever (rather than just as his kid best friend). However, they both have secrets from the last 10-15 years of their friendship that keep them apart, as well as one big secret that Anna has never told anyone about something that happened in her childhood.
My Thoughts This book just actually broke me. Yes, there were times where I was frustrated with Anna because, as the reader, I knew that all Gabe was trying to do was help her (multiple times throughout their lives). However, I also think that I would have felt the same way about a lot of things if I was in her shoes. She spends her life clinging on to this idea of her mother, and it was painful watching her work through all of the issues there.
I think this book had really great closure. I would have appreciated a little bit more of an epilogue of Anna + Gabe later in life, but it wasn't totally necessary for this story. I wish we could all have a Gabe in our lives though. Even before they became romantic (much later in the book), he was the one true family and one true friend that Anna ever had, and it made their relationship so much better. I loved Gabe's family so much, just in general, but also for what they did for Anna/how they acted like she was already part of the family. The scenes with Gabe's grandmother, Dorothy, just absolutely killed me (legit ugly crying). I loved the whole storyline with the family heirloom going to Anna, as well as Gabe's dad helping Anna apply to medical school.
And despite being sometimes frustrated with Anna, I think it's important to remember that she starts the story as a young teenager and she has so much childhood trauma to work through. I also liked her a good amount of the time too (particularly for all she did for Dorothy)!
I really loved this book. I cried so much, but most of it was because of heartwarming things. I'm so so glad that I read this book. ______________________________ It has a really happy ending, I swear, but I am fully sobbing right now. I need a minute to collect myself before writing a more comprehensive review. I inhaled this book like a high-powered vacuum - it was so freaking good. Read it, please.
Je me suis attaché à Anna. Je me suis attaché à Gabe.
IT ALL COMES BACK TO YOU is a slow burn romance and thank goodness for that as it wouldn’t have worked any other way. Anna is a character you instantly root for as she’s young and literally raising herself. While working on a school project with Gabe, she gets to know his family who welcome her into the fold. Anna instinctively puts up walls though, not wanting to trust others. Gabe and Anna’s friendship throughout the years has highs and lows and maybe, just maybe, their relationship will evolve into something more.
I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway and I’m thankful I got the chance to check out this gem of a read. Thank you Forever for sending me a copy!
“It All Comes Back to You” was just painful and beautiful.
I like that the writer doesn't dive straight into romance with the characters. Gabe and Anna first became friends , then began to develop feelings for each other as adults & that's exactly how it should be. I felt really sad for Anna and her situation, she didn't grow up in the best circumstances. Her trust issues bothered me at times, but given what she went through at such a young age, it was understandable. She deserves the whole world and I am so glad she found the love and warmth she craved in Gabe's fam.
A friends to lovers, second chance romance set in Pittsburgh over many years time. Anna meets Gabe in a college class, she is taking it as a 16-year-old at risk student. He is a college senior. They become fast friends even though she goes home every night to a dark crappy apartment in Lawrenceville. Soon she gets to know his family, and she really loves all of them, the love that they share together and the camaraderie of his household. Over time, they become closer and best friends. But the timing never quite works out for them to be together.
Anna has a secret that she doesn’t want Gabe and his family to find out. We know that there is a secret in her past that she doesn’t want Gabe to know. Looking for her mother, she hasn’t given up hopes that her mom will come home.
Gabe is a good character and easy to love. I liked the pacing and the writing style. This reads more like a suspense book than it does a romance, but there’s plenty of romance in the book. Not a lot of spicy parts, but you can definitely feel the characters love for each other. It does seem strange that they never take their relationship to the next step over the course of so many years. The ending does wrap up all of the loose ends, although it does seem a bit rushed.
I really loved the setting of Pittsburgh, because I grew up there, and it was really true to the culture of the city.
Instantly pulls you in to the world of Anna and Gabe!! They are thrown together on a college assignment and a friendship develops that changes both of their lives! Anna is from a not great home with secrets that unfold very well throughout the story. Gabe comes from a loving home and family, seems to have it all together, with his college frat boy life but little did he realize that he needed Anna in his life. You will be rooting for them the whole way, does take longer than you’d prefer for them to figure things out but the story is great along the wait. Gives you all the feels and love a book that has you thinking about the characters and story even when you aren’t reading! Highly recommend!
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for my electronic advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
4⭐️ it’s just something about picking up a Melissa Wiesner book and being glued to it till you finish😭 I actually really really loved this story and both characters. It’s friends to lovers, and honestly my heart hurt so bad for the FMC because at times I understood her? The way everyone has let her down & caused her to be so guarded, to finding someone with a great family and not knowing how to maneuver that without feeling like they’ll also leave/let you down. UGH MY HEARTTTT. Then the secrets just kept coming.. but all in the name of them not wanting to lose eachother or scare the other off.. but i think my favorite thing about this book outside of the romance & plot, was the found family.. I LOVE THAT TROPE SO MUCH AND IT WAS DONE SO WELL IN THIS BOOK. “Ready to officially be a Weatherall?” STOP IT MY HEARTTTTT.
It All Comes Back to You by Melissa Wiesner Contemporary romance, multiple timeliness. The first time Gabe Weatherall meets Anna Campbell, he’s upset that he’s asked to work on a college level project with a girl in high school. She soon proves she’s more than competent with better ideas than most of the class. Anna’s not willing to share much about herself and he notices her in the library awfully late. Insisting he give her a ride home one night, Gabe encounters the questionable landlord which ramps up his concern. Finding out more about Anna’s situation has Gabe and his family opening their home to her. Anna and Gabe become good friends but Anna has a line she won’t cross. She holds herself back, afraid to love too much in case it all comes crumbling down.
🎧 I listened to an audiobook copy of this book, narrated by Kate Handford who made the performance both a joy and heartbreaking. The characters go through a lot of emotions which are clearly heard during the story. I listened at a speed above 1.5 to more closely match my reading and local conversation.
Anna is afraid to trust and it’s heartbreaking as years go by and she holds herself apart. The story is told in chunks of years together and apart. It’s a beautiful and poignant romance. Tears of pain, loss, and love are sure to follow. They certainly did for me. 4.5
Do you want to cry because you are so happy? Then you NEED this book. In fact this should be required reading for anyone who loves a good love story that expands decades of time. Reading the progression of Gabe and Anna's love story was innocent, endearing, passionate and a slow burn that ends with a flood of all kinds of a emotions. This is going to be the book I reccommend to people who say, "I want a book that makes me cry, laugh and fall in love"
This was my first time reading Melissa Wisner, and I have immediately added her back list to my never ending TBR list. Her writing tumbled off the page and was such a natural flow. It required no effort. I couldn't believe when I looked down at my progress in the book, I was at 70% and didn't even realize I had spent that much time reading. If there ever was a literary couple I would love to see more of, Gabe and Anna are it! In fact I NEED a sequel, (Usually I highly recommend no sequel, but I want more of them together.)
Gabe is my new book husband! I LOVED every bit of him! What I loved about this was how their relationship started when they were young and blossomed into a beautiful story.
Thank you net galley for this advanced copy read. I was not influenced or paid for this honest review.
While I enjoyed this story as a whole, this was lacking in the romance department. We get the story of Anna's journey through the hardships she faced growing up and everything she overcame to achieve as much as she did. Throughout it all, Gabe was always there for her. And I think that's where I was really bummed out. He was always just there and it never quite blossomed into the epic romance it should've been. I really wished we would've gotten more with them. His family was great and really welcomed her and loved her like their own. Soooo many years passed by though with nothing more than a quick scene every 3 years. Like literally, it got to the point where each chapter was 3 years later. I think this jumped 15years in total. I kept waiting for the big moment between Gabe & Anna and when it finally happened after so much back and forth from Anna, it was so quick and we got no epilogue.
I still enjoyed the story because it was different than my normal read but it left me wanting more. Quick notes: written in 3rd POV and it's fade to black
IT ALL COMES BACK TO YOU "TODOS NUESTROS RECUERDOS" 4.5/5
Los he amado. ❤️
This novel is a romance, yes, but also a beautiful story to remind us of the immense privilege of being well surrounded and the importance of a loving family. I loved it!
Author Melissa Wiesner has a way of writing a story that just pulls you in and won’t let you go. And, this is certainly the case with It All Comes Back to You. I can’t recommend this book enough. Perfect summer, beach reading! But, be ready to shed some tears along the way. With that said, I stayed up ALL NIGHT just to finish reading this book. It is that good! It All Comes Back to You has so much going on within the story., Second chances Learning to accept what life gives you Reaching for your dreams no matter what Showing bravery through adversities given you Accepting help from others even though its not easy to do A beautiful heartwarming and emotional read. (The book cover caught my eye…just beautiful) Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and author, Melissa Wiesner, for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are solely my own.
-dziękuje, ze mi go podarowałaś-odparla Anna ochryple.
This book frustrated the heck out of me. I wanted to throw it across the room several times. I didn’t like Anna. Gabe and his family were awesome. I would call this a miscommunication trope and it went on the entire book. The. Entire. Book. Having said that I finished this painful audiobook to see my HEA! It was a painfully long good story. The narrator was Kate Handford and she was great. 3.5⭐️ Thanks Bookouture via NetGalley.
