On her own since the day she turned eighteen and left the group home where she grew up, twenty-five year old Alexa Ryan has made a comfortable life for herself. She has a great job, the perfect apartment, every material possession a girl her age could desire. Unfortunately, she also has an unusual condition which has forced her to keep everyone at a distance.
Ethan Kellar has spent his entire life running from destiny. When he was just a boy, a powerful seer prophesied his role in events that would determine the outcome of the secret war his people had been fighting for centuries. A role he was determined not to accept, leading him to avoid letting anyone get too close, until the night Alexa fell into his arms.
Drawn to her in a way he has never experienced, Ethan decides to take the ultimate risk by trusting Alexa and revealing to her all he truly is. Thinking she is an ordinary woman, he believes she is the key to preventing the prophecy from being fulfilled and allowing him to live the life he has always wanted, one he chooses. Having been so consumed with the desire to determine the course of his own life he wants no less for Alexa and knows he must tell her everything, give her a choice. Before that happens they surrender to the intense physical attraction between them and he realizes too late that in trying so hard to change his fate, he may have set the events of the prophecy in motion.
In that moment, Ethan makes the most difficult decision of his life and does the only thing he can to save Alexa. He walks away.
Consumed by grief, Alexa falls into a deep depression until she learns her brief encounter with love resulted in a child and somehow finds the strength to put herself back together for the sake of her baby Chloe.
Nearly two years after Ethan walked out Chloe develops an unexplained illness which sends Alexa in search of anything that can help. Her pursuit leads her back to Ethan and thrusts her into his dark and mysterious world, unlocking the secrets of her past and revealing threats to their future. Together, Alexa and Ethan fight to protect Chloe and their love, but there is one battle Ethan fights alone as he struggles to choose his own path and avoid the choices of fate.
S. Simone Chavous is an international bestselling paranormal and contemporary romance author. When she isn't writing, she enjoys reading, sketching, cooking, and spending time with family. She lives in northern Indiana with her family, their rambunctious vizsla, Lily, named after Harry Potter's mother, and their cat, Princess Leia.
This is one of those books that, once you begin, you can't/don't want to put down. It draws you in and keeps you reading because you NEED to know what's going to happen.
There's plenty of romance, mystery, engaging characters, including an adorable vamp baby, and intriguing plot situations. The characters are real, even though most of them are vamps, and the storyline holds your interest until the very last page.
This is the first in a series and, I have to warn you, there's a major cliffhanger at the end of this book. The next book should release this fall (2013) so you won't have too long to wait to find out what happens next.
I received a copy of this book as a Read2REview through Lovers of Paranormal on Goodreads. I do have to say, if I'd known how good it is, I'd have had no problem buying it. I'll definitely be telling my friends about this one!

While I took an instant liking to the characters it took awhile for the story to start to get anywhere. Pretty much the entire first half of the book is devoted to flashbacks and setting the scene for how we got to where we are now. And while I don’t mind flashbacks as a rule. One of my biggest pet peeves on TV are the episodes where they jump into things mid-story and then spend most of the episode doing flashbacks to see how we got there. Well this is the first time I’ve experienced that feeling of dread and said “oh man not one of those episodes!” about a book.
Now, flashback rant out of the way you might want to know why I kept reading this book if that annoyed me so much. And the answer was the characters and the story! While I wasn’t crazy about how I got it, I wanted it. Alexa the single mom trying to find answers about the heaping piles of mysteries that surround her and her daughter. I can’t even go into any of that without unloading some hefty spoilers that could ruin any of a number of jaw-dropping moments. There are a number of steamy sexy scenes throughout the book, both past and present. And while I couldn’t help but laugh inappropriately at some of the descriptive terms used, these scenes at least to me progressed and illustrated their intensifying connection to each other. (Or I’m reading too much into it and they’re just fun romps in the hay) but that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
What I would really have loved would be the first half of this book condensed down to a couple or few chapters in the beginning and the last half expanded to fill the space because that’s when things really start happening and I want more of that story and the pretty detailed mythology that’s presented to us there!
And omg what a doozy of a cliffhanger! Fortunately the next book is due out this fall!
I wanted to give this a solid 4 stars because I did enjoy this story. But the format drove me nuts! So in reality, the first half gets a 2 – 3 and the last half earned a 4 so I’ll call it a 3.5
This book was gifted to me from the author for an honest review through the Facebook Page Paranormal Romance and Authors that Rock.
We are first introduced to Alexa, who sees herself as the average girl that has difficulty shutting the world out. She can hear the thoughts of others which for any person is going to be difficult. This book draws you in immediately by having Alexa at a night club with the girls. She hears her friends' thoughts of her friend who sees a hot guy from across the bar. Friend mentally claims dibbs on Ethan, however great karma steps in and Ethan goes directly to Alexa like a magnet. Alexa has never felt so drawn to anyone in her life and throws caution to the wind. Ethan is immortal, vampire to be exact but is too fearful of losing Alexa to tell her the truth, save the bigger news of the prophesy around her. When Ethan realizes she is the girl in the prophesy foretold, he runs, leaving her all alone and pregnant with his child.
Now so as not to have any more spoilers out there, I will proceed to say that this book was an easy, smooth read. I loved how the characters were developed and all the stories were tied together flawlessly. I felt envious of Alexa through much of the book, loved the spunk of Calli, and the author kept things interesting all the way through. There were twists I did not see coming and usually in books like this, I often am able to predict a lot of the things that happen based on the way the writer leads up to it. This book was hard to do that with, which in my opinion is an accomplishment. I do have one minute complaint to send the way of the author, THAT CLIFF HANGER SUCKED!!!! You cannot get the second one published fast enough for me, I am on the edge of my seat cursing you right now!!! Five Fangs! $2.99 on Amazon and well worth it!
Let me start by saying I LOVED this book. I hope the author doesn’t mind me saying this, but if you want an adult version of Twilight then you will love this book. It has vampires and a complicated love story that tugs at your heart just enough. I believe it’s classified as Paranormal Erotica? I would say while the sex scenes are fully loaded I don’t think they were tacky. The scenes were will written and moderately mild compared to what is out there. The author did a fantastic job of incorporating back story into the present day plot. The flow was flawless and the writing was seamless. I am not one to recap stories, so I won’t. While the relationship between Ethan and Alexa happened literally overnight, the author explained it well so that it fit in with the story and didn’t seem rushed or unfounded. The character development unfolded at such a great pace that I thought it was next to perfection. Let’s talk about Ethan first. He is a sexy, sweet, independent, defiant…need I go on? Alexa is sweet and guarded, but tough enough to withstand the difficulties of her upbringing and the hardships of taking care of a less than ordinary child by herself. The secondary characters introduced in the last part of the book have a lot of potential to play an important part in the next book and add more WOW and HOTNESS factors. I can’t wait! Jared sounds delicious! I would definitely recommend this series to paranormal fans! I loved the writing, the story, the characters, and the plot. I found myself wanting to keep reading to find out what was going to happen. Reader be warned, though, there is a cliff hanger. A definite 5 stars from me!
I really loved the story, and of course the characters!! Gah!! I love the concept and the characters' personality! The author really did a great job making this book, Choices of Fate, interesting.
I love Alexa and Ethan! I love how their story began and how they were reunited.. I was a bit sorry for Alexa at first because she has to deal taking care of Chloe alone. There were parts where I wanted to cry for her, the one where she went to the doctor's office and Chloe was like crying her heart out. Even though Chloe was crying, her patience to her daughter was really impressive. I liked that about her, she really loved her daughter and she's willing to do anything to care for her daughter. The best part that I've read was the last few parts!! Ethan is so sweet and romantic.. haha!! But well the end part, ughh!! I loved how it ended (no spoilers).. I'm curious of what will happen next..
Can't wait for the next book.. The author really made me curious of what will happen next of Ethan and Alexa's story!
Alexa is a young woman, who grew up in a children's home. She has always felt lonely as she found it difficult to bond with anyone. They thought she was weird. She was in fact a Telepath, She soon learnt to hide it & not tell anyone of her gift. She makes a comfortable, but lonely life for herself.
On a night out, with work colleagues, she meets the very handsome Ethan. She feels inexplicably drawn to him.
That's when this thrilling story really begins. It made me laugh, get angry & really made me cry, with sadness & joy.
S.Simone Chavous, really draws you into the story. It is exciting and hard to put down. The love story between Alexa,Ethan & their baby girl Chloe is heartwarming yet sad. I loved their characters & Ethan's family are wonderful to Alexa, making her feel like part of a family again.
However their is a shadow over them, Will their love be enough to change Fate......
A very well written story with exceptionally steamy sex scenes.
I've said it before but I'll say it again, I have been so surprised by the variety and talent of the various authors that have emailed us regarding reviewing their books! I try my hardest to get to as many of them as I can, especially debut novels. Jennifer and Trinity are always getting on to me with putting to much pressure on myself but you would be amazed at the number of outstanding debut authors I have had the privilege to read and even meet/talk to since we first started in February.
"Choices of Fate" is definitely one of those undiscovered gems. The debut novel from S. Simone Chavous has everything you can want - romance, secrets, angst, action, death and more! An unassuming novel with a paranormal twist, "Choices of Fate" is the first book in Chavous' Fate series.
Choices of Fate is an excellent title for this novel where Alexa makes the choice of her fate and accepts her place at the mate to Ethan, as the evil in the vampire world fights to take over all vampires and the humans as well. Alexa's main goal is to save her and Ethan's daughter and she will accept her fate to protect Chloe and give Ethan a chance to raise his daughter.
This story tells of Alexa's childhood, how she meets Ethan and his family and how she comes to accept her fate. The action and emotions are presented in a manner that draws the reader into the story. The romance is intense and sweet as Ethan completes the bond with Alexa. The mystery of how they meet the prophecy is presented in such a way the reader keeps hoping they will find a way to change it and although Alexa is willing to die for her loves... I am not telling if the prophecy is right or not. The next book in the series leaves so many possibilities.
This story has brought me to tears. I just don't know what to think now. All my emotions are up in the air. I just don't know if I can find the words to describe the feelings and emotions that I am feeling write now. And to know I have to wait until the fall to read the second one. I don't know how in the world a book can end just like this one did.
The whole entire time I was reading this book I was feeling so many things and I felt happy. To find the love that Alexa and Ethan have. To know that you aren't given tomorrow and fate can take everything away in just a single second. To know that Ethan is a vampire and Alexa loves him no matter what he is or for even leaving her.
I know it would be scary to know that the baby you had several months ago is going to save the world. Chloe has a lot on her shoulders. I will be waiting for the next book. I hope I can make myself read it and something good has to come out of some of this.
This book was given to Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock in exchange for an honest review. Holy Cow!!! I loved it!! Ethan and Alexa fall in love at first sight and it didn’t bother me at all. After one night, he disappears from her life and she has to deal with the aftermath. There were moments of extreme sadness, extreme happiness, and painful frustration when the book ended in a cliffhanger. Not even the few grammatical errors could dampen my enjoyment of this book. I read the entire thing in one sitting and almost cried when it ended. I kept trying to make one more page appear on my Kindle. I will wait with absolutely no patience whatsoever for the next book to come out in the fall, and this author will definitely go on my TBR list. 5 Stars!!!
A story worth reading!!! This is the question that you must ask youself, is there anyone out there that you would give up your life for? That is the question Ethan and Alexia was faced with, the problem was only one will live. The prophecy had sealed their fate, only one would be alive after the vampire war. But Alexia had choice their fate, she loved Ethan more than life itself and wanted him to take care of their child.
This story had it all vampires, war, family drama and the greatest love story ever told....
Now all I need is the next book in this series...
An amazing read!!!
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for a honest review (LoP)
I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book and I found it to be really hard to put down. It was really well written, the storyline moved along really well and it kept me guessing. It had really likeable main characters and it is going to be a trilogy. I love that! I was not aware that it was a paranormal romance when I received it and that is not something that I would have normally been drawn to but this book quickly changed my mind. Definitely check it out!
Great book! Very inventive back story in these vampires. Alexa has had a rough start in life. We meet her as an adult trying to get by with the gift if telepathy as a hardship for her and any relationship she might have. Ethan our reluctant hero is the epitome of an alpha vamp! Beautiful, brooding, powerful & completely head over heels in love with Alexa on first sight. Enter the unexpected Chloe... Vamp baby ❤️ And you have a story that is impossible to put down.
Another paranormal novel that gets "thumbs up" A book...A very good book to sink your teeth in to. ^,..,^ I really enjoyed this novel, the characters, and their development. The romance and passion was electrifying. I'm not a fan of posting spoilers so I will just say, I am grateful to have found an author whose work held my interest in a paranormal world. Well done, Ms. Chavous.
Choices of Fate is a modern romance that incorporates various paranormal elements, including vampires, witches, and seers that all have varying abilities.
Choices of Fate was an interesting story, but there were many grammar and spelling errors that take away from the story. But even with those errors, Choices of Fate is still worth the read.
This is an "adult" version of Twilight with a dash of True Blood, House of Night, The Vampire Diaries, (and any other vamp series you've read) blended in with some twists. If you like the genre, then you'll be getting a blend of stories you've already read. There's not much originality within the pages, but the slight twists on the same-old-story make it interesting enough. When I say "adult" I mean it. There's a lot of sex, a lot of sex talk, and words that you don't even hear very often in rated R movies. That said...
The good:
The plot is decent, the characters are likeable, and it's a free book. If you enjoy any of the popular vampire series out there and are a fan of sex-filled plots, this is a freebie you'll enjoy.
The bad:
1) Grammatical and spelling errors throughout.
2) Husked. Apparently vampires don't talk, or ask, or question, or imply, etc. They husk. She husked, he husked, they all husked. I found it both distracting and annoying.
3) ¿Hablas español? If you don't, good luck. Some of the dialogue is basic Spanish, like the pet name "Amor". But later on, there is dialogue between the family that is in Spanish. So, you'll either need to stop reading and run find a way to translate it... or skip over it (like I did) and wonder what the heck they are talking about. (FYI- it didn't seem to matter that I skipped these parts.)
4) Disappearing Doggie. (Slight Spoiler Alert)
The main character, Alexa, has a wonderful dog named Tilly. Tilly has been her sole companion through the loneliest and hardest times of her life. Tilly saves Alexa's life in more ways than one, and to hear Alexa tell it the dog is her best friend. Only, Tilly is left outside alone on numerous occasions, forgotten more than once, and then towards the end-- after a big hoopla over going back for the dog... the dog is left to wander outside, alone, in a new place... and we never hear another word about this beloved pet. (There are a few other plot holes, but this one bugged me the most!)
5) Cliff Hanger. Now, this was not a big deal to me, because I knew going in that this freebie ends with a cliff hanger and you have to buy the next book to see how it ends. BUT, if you just cannot stand a book that ends this way, you better skip this one. BIG cliff hanger ending.
Overall, this was a decent freebie. I care enough about the characters and found the story interesting enough that I'd like to know what happens next... but considering the poor editing and unpolished writing in the first book, I won't be paying $2.99 just to see how it ends. I will keep watch on the second book and if it's ever .99 cents, I might pay that much to finish the story. ;)

This is a good read with a story & characters that keep you turning pages until the very end. It's an amazing story full of everything you need to keep a story interesting. I enjoyed it alot. This is the first book I've read by this author & I'm interested in reading more.
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This vampire book is a bit different than others that I have read. Ethan is a vampire but he was born from vampires, not bitten and infected. He falls in love with Alexa and she falls in love with him. But, they do it within a day or so of meeting each other. Alexa is a telepath, meaning she can read other peoples minds, but she can't read Ethan's. After Ethan assures Alexa that he cannot get her pregnant and they spend several days over the weekend together. Ethan leaves suddenly after tasting Alexa's blood after biting her during sex. Alexa finds out she's pregnant within a few weeks after he leaves. She manages to have the baby, Chloe, and take care of her on her own until Chloe hits about 9 months old. It's when she takes Chloe to a special doctor for her sudden colic and other odd symptoms that things get weird and complicated.
I can not give away some of the other things that happen in the book as they would be total spoilers. Let's just say that Alexa finds out something shocking about her and the parents that seemingly abandoned her at birth, she finds out that her daughter Chloe may be something special as well and also has other vampires trying to kill her and take her baby. There is a LOT happening in this book, but it doesn't seem like too much. It all seems like necessary storyline. I really like the storyline, the action, the characters, etc. It is a really good vampire book and I really can't wait to see what happens in future installments.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This book was definitely emotional. It managed to make me laugh, make me happy, and nearly bring me to tears from sadness. Such is the power of S. Simone Chavous's writing in combination with this story. The book hooked me quickly and didn't let me go until the last page. The story was so interesting and the characters were vivid. Something I really enjoyed about this book was the new spin Chavous put on vampires (how one becomes a vampire, what it means to be a vampire, etc.). While there are so many happy points in the book, the ending is far from it. Quite frankly, it's pretty heartbreaking. Having a book end this way always makes me uncertain as to whether or not I want to continue with the series. On the one hand, I'm dying to know what happens next. On the other, I don't want to keep reading something that ended so sadly (and thus made me sad). It's hard to see how the story can become happy again after the loss of such an important character. (Though I have to say, I am definitely holding out hope that this character is not truly lost somehow!) On the whole, however, Chavous' writing was excellent and the story was well-crafted and engaging. For this reason alone I am definitely interested in continuing the series (even if it's a bit painful). I desperately want to know what happens next!
I am reviewing the book Choices of Fate by S. Simone Chavous I have received in exchange for an honest review (Lop or Lovers of Paranormal). This book is an easy read and is quite enjoyable. As depicted by the cover, the book is about a family. The mother is prominent, and the father is just a silhouette, an unknown. The main characters, Ethan and Alexa meet at a bar and are immediately attracted to each other. The story is basically the consequence of the one night stand. I find that the characters fall too quickly in love with each other in the very beginning. They just met and almost immediately declared their love for each other. I think it would be nice to have a bit more…wooing and romance development before stating the “L” word. However after the birth of the child, I think the romance was developed quite nice. We are introduced to a prophecy and are teased by it throughout, but we do not find the exact details until the very end. I liked how that was built up. I like how it isn’t a typical vampire romance. I think the suspense was nice at the very end. The cliff hanger makes me want to read the sequel.
What can I say this has got to be one of the best reads I have had in long time, you can get so hooked, you know what I did? that much I had to buy the second of this book as soon as I finished this one. So yes I would say S. Simone Chavous is now in my selection of favourite author's. What would you do if you knew that you were just the ordinary girl, non exciting, very un-attractive girl in the office. In other words plain Jane. Try going out having a good time dance a little, live a little and ignore all the voices you hear around you and then just stay in that little corner where hopefully no one will notice you. Alexa Ryan was that kind of girl or so she thought, not knowing that across the room in this night club someone very exotic, enchanting and very hot was watching her every move. Ethan wanted her she may want to look dowdy, but to him she was the one. Alexa Ryan was about to get all her fantasies come true. Need to know more? Then what are you waiting for you know you want to.
This book was not what I expected! I love the chemistry and connection between Alexa and Ethan. Chloe and Tilly are my favorite duo, however. The bond between an animal and a child is unbreakable. I love how real it was. The scene with Chloe and her hand on Tilly's heart had me in tears...a lot of tears!!
The story wasn't as original as I would have liked...a lot of the end reminded me of twilight, and I didn't like that. I really, really freaked at the last 5 pages of the book. It was a major cliffhanger and I can't wait to read the next book in this series!
*I received this book in exchange for a honest review from LOP*
I immediately got sucked into this book. I loved getting to learn about Alexa and her ability to read minds. Through out this story you get learn the back story of Alexa and Ethan and how Chloe came to be. I loved how you learn that Chloe is a mind reader and a vampire. The chemistry you get to experience between Alexa and Ethan is phenomenal. I can't wait to read more from this series.

Although I don't typically read romance or paranormal books, this book was pretty good. I was hooked in from the first chapter and it kept my interest throughout. I thought the writing and story line were solid and it was set up perfectly for a sequel. I enjoyed the author's writing style and may consider reading the 2nd book. I wish this author the best of luck in her new career!
I really enjoyed this book. It is very well written. It has great characters and a very nice story. I wish that I knew beforehand that it ended with a major cliffhanger. Now I have to wait until the fall to find out what happens next!
This book sounds a lot like a masterpiece for sci-fi romance. Two people who believe in fate and the heroine becomes a mother. The cover makes people want to buy the book. I hope to get this book
